Can anyone help me find an old Haunted House Windows screensaver? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 06:44 AM PDT This was completely out of the blue, but I thought you guys might be able to help me. My grandparents used to have a haunted house screensaver on their computer. It was similar to the Mystery Screensaver, but I can't seem to find any trace of it. There were more spooky elements to this than to Mystery, including a lantern floating in front of a window and chains rattling. However, the one detail that sticks out in my mind was the eyeball. Every once in a while, a giant bloody eyeball would splatter onto the screen. This was accompanied by a loud screech that always scared me wonderfully. I used to sit for long periods of time and wait for the eyeball to reappear, because I liked it. It kept me from getting into trouble, so I'm sure my poor grandparents were grateful for the rest. I remember watching it in their temporary apartment, while they waited for a house to be built. I'm guessing they probably ran Windows 98, but I can't be sure. They sold their old house in August 2003, so I'm guessing the eyeball screensaver is from 2000 to 2002, or something like that. If anyone remembers this eyeball screensaver please share! And if there's any way to find a video of it, I would be very grateful! [link] [comments]
Is it possible to specify certain applications to use a specific network interface? [Win10] Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:35 PM PDT I just ran Cat5 from my PC to my router, and while I do have internet, I'm only seeing speeds of around 9 Mbps (but have a consistent 30ms ping), while if I use WiFi I see speeds around 40 Mbps, but my ping will vary from 80ms all the way up to 250ms. Is it possible to configure Windows to specify applications (games) to only use the Ethernet interface, while everything else uses WiFi? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:17 PM PDT Hello! I just downloaded a bootable windows onto an usb stick and I from there booted up the computer from the USB stick and formatted all the disks inside the laptop. Then exitted the program. Now when I boot up the computer it just says "No operating System Installed" My question is, is everything wiped from the disk and unable to retrieve the data on there? It's important since I am getting rid of the laptop. thnx [link] [comments]
Problems when trying to install Windows 10 Posted: 31 Mar 2019 11:05 AM PDT I've decided to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 after four years of ignoring it. Everything went smoothly. I had to free some disk space though. Then when I confirm that I can't use my computer during install, the blue full screen Installing Windows 10 screen appears for a split second, then closes with a pop-up saying that Windows 10 couldn't be installed, then closes. Upgrading client's 10 year old computer Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:38 PM PDT Hi guys, I'm workign with someone who wants me to set up their old laptop. Its an Acer aspire 4810Z-4011, with a 1.3ghz pentium and 3gb ddr2, with vista running on it currently. I want to put windows 10 or 7 on it, for security reasons, but im not sure if the computer can run it, or if I should just reset his hard drive, keep vista, and find him a good antivirus. I'm comfortable doing anything, its just a matter of whats best for the user. I expect the computer to be under a light load, mostly used for web browsing, checking email, and maybe netflix or something, nothing too crazy. Should I keep vista and get him an antivirus, upgrade him to windows 10 (if I do, should I get him an SSD and 4gb DDR3?), or even upgrade to windows 10 then go back to 7 (as far as I know thats the best way to get 7). Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2019 02:11 AM PDT I understand programming. Not nearly to the extent some of you do so maybe someone here can help me understand this. I play games on PC. I use several different controllers. (Logitech F310, Logitech Wingman Attack, Xbox 360, Steam, PS3) I know drivers aren't something that is up to Microsoft, Xbox controller excluded, and I know at times they can be finicky but sometimes they are worse than printer drivers. My wife plays some games with me and we both have preferences when playing certain games. If we play Lego Worlds I use my Steam controller because it feels the most comfortable and she pretty much uses on the 360 controller for all games. We also have preferred spots we sit on the couch. When playing something like Lego Worlds or Borderlands we can play on our side of the TV and I am always on the left so I play as Player 1 and when hoping on with our controllers all we have to do is wait for the game to start and as long as I press a button first all is good with the Steam controller and the 360 controller automatically switches to the second position. If we stop playing and I change games to something like Fallout 4 where I am far more comfortable with a 360 controller I start to run into issues. The 360 controller is stuck on the second position. I can remove all other devices and uninstall hidden devices and controllers, I can unplug it and do everything short of uninstalling and restarting but the controller won't change back to position one. Sometimes, based on god knows what, it switches to position three. I have tried to find solutions to this but most require the restarting of my computer which isn't always an option for me. I have several computers that link into mine from an outside source and they back up on my HDDs. It is so vital for some that I have even turned off Windows updates and blocked its access so I can decide when updates happen instead of them just happening. I know most people may not see the problem but it drives me insane. So here is the question. Why can't microsoft make a way for me to switch positions without jumping through hoops. Couldn't they just make a program that shows you the position your controller is in and lets you select from, something like a dropdown menu even if it is just for the Xbox controllers? I know they arent going to throw all controers on it but Xbox controllers are their product. Why not make an easy position switcher app or something? Or an app where you can set a primary controller at a click instead? Would it be that complicated? [link] [comments]

How to Open Control Panel in Windows 10 Posted: 31 Mar 2019 05:48 PM PDT

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:51 PM PDT After a Windows update, my PC stopped booting correctly. I was running 8.1 but have since upgraded to 10 and the problem persists. Instead of showing the regular explorer screen on startup, it'll just show command prompt and I have to manually run explorer each time. Everything works fine besides that. I've tried a few fixes I've found online with not much luck. When I switched my harddrive to a new machine, I needed to change pciide and STORAHCI values to 0 but they already were at 0, is this the issue or is there something simple I'm missing, such as a "run on startup" command [link] [comments]
Pressed something, every program disappeared but still running Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:49 PM PDT While using my computer, I pressed something and suddenly looked like my screens moved (2 screens) and every program disappeared and they are not in task bar but I can still hear them and see them in task manager. What did I do and how to restore it? [link] [comments]
Can no longer install Acrobat Reader on Win 7... Posted: 31 Mar 2019 09:48 AM PDT I just re-installed my Win 7 (x64) and noticed that the web installer of Acrobat Reader no longer works. Half-way through (exactly at 50%), the web installer says Failed to Install. Downloading and installing Adobe reader through the enterprise off-line installer, however, works. The OS is freshly re-installed, Chrome up to latest version, javascript enabled and latest graphics driver also installed. No antivirus programs or software interfering. All other drivers are also intalled and up-to-date. I took a bit an extreme measure and re-installed Win7 again, but the issue still stays. My laptop specs are: Win 7 (x64), 6GB RAM, Intel I3, Nvidia Geforce 740M. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks. [link] [comments]
part of the hotkeys buttons don't work Lenovo yoga 510 14-ISK Posted: 31 Mar 2019 07:35 AM PDT I have a laptop with windows 10, for the past few years I think, I asked in every possible forum but no one was able to answer me, I also tried to restart zillion times, reinstalling driver and anything you can think of but nothing worked, f1, f2, f3, f5, f9, f11 and f12 works but the others don't (the hot keys, if I press fn + alt + f4 for instance it works) also there used to be a little pop up when I pressed them, if i pressed f4 which mute the mic, it showed a mic picture inside a little window, and now it doesn't... any kind of ideas will help :( [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 12:37 PM PDT Does anyone know how to tell Bitlocker to completely ignore the TPM? All of the articles I can seem to search show me how to enable Bitlocker without a TPM (such as here), however that doesn't work when your computer has a TPM that doesn't work properly. Windows still tries to use the TPM if it's present, and I can't find any setting or anything that gets Windows to ignore it. I'm running a Thinkpad T420 with Coreboot+Tianocore that dual boots Linux (primary drive) and Windows (secondary drive). Everything works perfect except Bitlocker on the Windows drive. Coreboot does give me the ability to deactivate the TPM, but when I do that Windows still detects it and attemps to re-enable it when I try to turn on Bitlocker. For now, the only combination I've found to get an encrypted drive is to use VeraCrypt, but unfortunately I hear that has "issues" whenever you attempt to reinstall/upgrade Windows. I can live with VeraCrypt for now, but would like to get Bitlocker to work instead if I can. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Teredo Tunneling Adapter Missing/ Doesn't Exist Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:18 AM PDT I'm trying to play State of Decay 2 with a friend but I get an error code 1006. Apparently it has something to do with teredo not being able to qualify. Some steps to fixing this problem involves reinstalling the Teredo Tunneling Adapter. However, it does not exist even if I view hidden devices or if I try adding legacy hardware. I have already tried everything on [Xbox Support] (https://support.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-on-windows/social/troubleshoot-party-chat) the command **netsh interface teredo set state type=enterpriseclient** and changing the DisabledComponents value to 0 in regedit.exe any help is appreciated. EDIT: I also tried the "fix it" method through Settings>Gaming>Xbox Networking which didn't help [link] [comments]

How to I permanently disable the Airplane Mode key? - Cat keeps stepping on it Posted: 31 Mar 2019 07:44 AM PDT My cat keeps stepping on the f12 key on my laptop, which turns on airplane mode. I want to disable that key entirely so that pressing it does nothing. I don't care if that means I disable the key directly or permanently disable airplane mode from ever going on - either would work. Thank you! [link] [comments]
