Just got a Mi Mix 2S

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 09:39 PM PST

Been wanting to get a Mi Mix phone since it debuted in 2016. I was "window shopping" at an online store the other night, and found that the Mi Mix has come down in price that I can afford it. Bought it, got it, and I'm loving this thing. I finally got my dream phone.

It's not a Mi Mix 3, but it's sorta does since they're pretty much the same phone internally, but on the outside, this doesn't have a slider like the 3 does. I prefer not having moving parts anyway.

I can't believe how sexy the phone is. And it doesn't cost a grand either. In fact, I got this thing brand new for way less than typical asking price. It's also just as solid/well made as an iPhone 8/X.

Currently waiting for the bootloader unlock, then I'll probably load some AOSP roms on this thing, and admire it with its bezelless screen. It's been a dream since the first Mi Mix came out. I did get close to this in 2017, by getting a Sharp Aquos Crystal for only $10, but I quickly got bored with it since I can only use it as a WiFi device and it's stuck on KitKat.

The front camera is in awkward position, but it's okay. I rarely take selfies anyway, and if I video call. I usually prop the phone horizontally, so it's not much of an issue. Better than a phone with moving parts, with a notch, or with a hole on a screen.

So yeah... I'd like to thank Xiaomi for making this possible, and some seller on Lazada Philippines for making it affordable enough (by dropping the price) to be on my hands.

Chinese vs Global version. Does it matter?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 08:13 PM PST

Hi guys, I am looking to replace my note 4 with the redmi note 7 and was looking to buy from hongkong goldway (bought my 4 from there) but they only have the chinese version and was wondering if this would be a problem.

Stay with the Pocophone F1 or sell it for a Redmi Note 7 Pro?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 09:56 AM PST

So, a week ago my Redmi Note 4X died, it had a swollen battery and SoT was like 1 hour at most, plus the screen was broken, so I had to get a new phone.
Since I need to keep communicated with my family most of the time, I had to get a phone ASAP, fortunately, I found a Pocophone F1 for sale on Aliexpress for $250 dlls, so I took it.
I was waiting for the Redmi Note 7 Pro for the Mexico Bands, better camera (Sony IMX586 Exmor RS) and SoC, but, since I got the Poco, I´m kinda confused.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro has:
    - Better Camera (for what I have seen)
    - Better body
    - Better protection (Gorilla Glass 5)
    - Better Screen (?) (1080 x 2340 px vs 1080 x 2246 px for the Poco)
    - IR Blaster!!

    But, the Poco has:
    - Better SoC
    - IR Face Unlock
    - More support on ROMS and Kernels (I love rooting Xiaomi phones)
    - Im not looking forward to get a new phone for 2 or maybe 3 years, so thats where the Snapdragon 845 takes action with the Poco

    Help!

I want the next great Xiaomi phone release to have a screen no bigger than 5.2"

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 10:57 PM PST

I mean, am I they only one? I bet I'm not. I love my Redmi Note 5 Pro, but I really believe the ideal size isn't this big.

I think they'd sell tons of 'em.

Can i charge a xiaomi mi band 2 with a mi 3 charger?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:55 PM PST

I lost my charger and can't find any shops that ship it in my country. I don't want to buy another mi 2 band either but I can buy a mi 3 charger apparently.

Mi A2 Lite worse battery drain on Pie?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 02:04 PM PST

I had this phone for around a month before updating and honestly the biggest downside so far is the battery life now. Android 9 was supposed to optimize it but let's see.

    Oreo:

    • 9h+ SOT
    • Location ON (with battery saving mode)
    • Without using battery saver

    Pie:

    • +/- 7h SOT
    • Location OFF (since they got rid of battery saving mode for some reason)
    • Battery saver on all the time

I don't get it? I got this phone specifically because of its high battery capacity... Anyone here had a similar experience? I heard factory reset could help but I really don't wanna go through the hassle. January 5th patch btw.

My Mi Mix 2 screen is not registering touch properly

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 05:24 PM PST

This just started happening today. I'll touch the screen and it won't register the touch immediately. It'll take a few seconds then it will register the touch. Let's say I'm on my keyboard and I type the letter 'F', the screen won't respond for a few seconds, then it will type the letter 'F'. No major drops or anything, also have a screen protector and a case.

Mi A2 on Pie December 5 patch - volume output on earphones is ridiculously low

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:03 PM PST

Did anyone notice this too? Got the phone recently and updated it to the latest version available which got me to Pie and the Dec 5 patch. (I'm in Brazil)

I suppose most of you have already updated past this patch, so please tell me if this is fixed? And if you noticed it during this version.

Also, how can I get it louder? Is there any app? Is it hardware related? Can a better headphone improve this?

This is my only issue with the phone so far.. Thanks

Word on the street is the redmi note 7 is amazing. First of all how do you get one in the states . Secondly is it worth using it in the USA ? Is there compatibility issues I don't want to have to deal with switching roms etc

If this is not ideal. What phone do you recommend $250 and under ?

Is Xiaomi.EU MIUI 10 much better than the global release?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 05:19 AM PST

I wanted to try out MIUI 10 EU but I couldn't find a proper guide to installation and am a bit afraid of bricking my phone (Redmi Note 6 Pro), so before I risk the installation I wanted to hear some of your opinions on the ROM. Does it perform significantly better than the Global release?

Redmi note 5 (whyred) - help with EDL

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:43 AM PST

    Hi all,

I restored a NANDROID backup from TWRP today, and then the phone started to bootloop and I couldn't even enter TWRP to try flashing another ROM. Then I used Miflash and flash a global MIUI ROM, while my is a chinese version..

I totally fucked up by leaving the option "clean all and lock" instead of just "clean all".

Now my phone is locked, and when I turn on the device it just says that this miui version can't be installed on my device. I can't use miflash again because the device is locked (GOD DAMN IT!!!!!). I tried open the back and short the 2 metal points underthe fingerprint sensor - didn't help...

I need your help to get miflash work, or else I'll have to go buy another phone.

    Thanks.

We already change de language & input to portuguese but the menu names in the settings and some others apps keep in english. Does anyone know if it's a bug of the version or have any solution we can try? Thanks in advance!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:32 PM PST

I am switching between MIUI and custom roms all the time but I recently opened a bank account for myself and I use that banks app to manage my money. Is it safe to do these on custom roms? My device is not rooted but bootloader is unlocked. Thanks in advance.

Purchased some Xiaomi products, having issues with servers

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:53 AM PST

I am located in Europe. I got the Roborock 2 vacuum and have been using it for some weeks successfully with minor issues and bugs.

I also bought the Gateway 2 today, 4 temperature sensors and 2 door reed ones. They look awesome and I am very excited but I run into server issues. First of all I bought the gateway from a local store, so no Chinese e-store.

I am unable to add the Gateway and also as a result its children devices to the European server. The app (android) simply doesn't recognise them.

I have experimented with Singapore and China Mainland ones. I am able to add everything but the Roborock. Also, Gateway speaks only Chinese.

I am confused. What am I supposed to do in order to make them all together? It's so annoying to log out and in all the time just to check temperature and vacuum a room.

What software quirks/issues should I expect if I get a Xiaomi phone?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 05:44 AM PST

I thought I would enjoy MIUI because it has lots of features but I'm quite worried now because there seems to be problems with the software like for example the issue with the notifications not showing up.

Mi 8 Lite - Which ROM?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:45 AM PST

I generally like MIUI but the notification issue and all the ads are starting to irritate me. So, anyone here changed the ROM on their 8 lite? I don't flash phones very often and I have bricked a mi4c in the past so I'm a bit nervous...
