HDD sector count raw value decreasing?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 02:08 AM PST

I first posted a question here regarding my laptop which I suspected a problem with the HDD as it's raw value was increasing ( reallocated sector count, Current pending sector count and Uncorrectable sector count) which indicates the HDD is reallocating the drive from the bad sectors .Uually if the number increases it could mean the HDD is dying. Today when I checked again, it suddenly decreases?

Reallocated sector count (3760 to 3088) Current pending sector count ( 472 to 328) Uncorrectable sector count ( 472 to 328)

PS the current and worst are unchanged with value far from the threshold.

    How to sync my rgb?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:54 AM PST

I have an Asus radeon 580 compatible with aura sync, and my case fans are also compatible with aura sync. Yet the case fans don't show up in the aura sync menu. My case is the Sharkoon TG4 RGB

I suspect it is because my motherboard doesn't have specific aura sync compatibility or something like that, it's the ASRock AB350 Pro4. How do I control my case fans, and can I sync them up with my graphics card? It's not a big problem if it isn't possible because I will mostly keep them static anyway, But I don't know at the moment how to control my case fans.

PC no longer working after cleaning fans.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 09:08 PM PST

Specs: AMD Ryzen 5 Processor MSI B350 Gtx 1060 EVGA bronze 80+ 450W 16 GB Ripjaw Ram

My PC was crashing a few times over the past week and i finally decided to check inside to clean it and there was dust all on the fans and the PSU. I went to clean it with a paper towel (Bad I know but i didn't have canned air at the time). I just brushed off the fans carefully and removed the dirt/dust into a trash can and just did that for all the fans. Important note that my pc would boot up and my monitors would pick up signals prior to me opening it up. I went to boot my pc back up and couldn't receive a signal from 3 different monitors and cords. Also my mouse and the LED on my power button would not light up but my keyboard and innard parts of my pc. would for some reason. Any help or potential fixes would be awesome.

what can i do with a hard drive with bad sectors

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:25 AM PST

so i'm guessing the answer is probably "nothing" but hear me out plz

so I've had this wd caviar green for a number of years, i wanna say 4 or 5, and i know that's typically the high end of a hard drive's lifespan. it wasn't until the last couple months that i started noticing a directory that had about 10,000 files in it was taking a real long time to refresh. i ran chkdsk and it came across a whole bunch of bad sectors. i just used Unstoppable Copier (love that app btw) and got all the data off of it (none of it was really that important tbh, which is why i didn't freak out eariler) There were about 2 dozen files (out of 2 TB) that were marked by Unstoppable as corrupt. Most were .wav files. I listed to a few of them and they were totally fine. No audio noise, no audio gaps, totally normal sounding.

i haven't had a bad drive in many many years, so i wasn't even sure what to do. i looked around online and found out about "hard" and "soft" bad sectors. i found out that writing zeroes to the drive was a good place to start, then run some tests on it after that.

I am writing to you from the 37% progress mark of WD DLG diagnostics full erase, which deletes all partitions and writes zeroes to the entire drive. when i started out the writing of the zeroes process, the estimated time remaining was about four hours. now the estimated time remaining is actually increasing - it is going the wrong way. In the last hour I have seen the number change from 3 hours, to where it currently sits at 7 hours, and the number is still increasing. At the current estimation, his would put the entire process time (combined elapsed time + estimated remaining) start to finish at 11 hours.

i'm guessing this means "hard" bad sector issue. ?

----->Anyway here is my question. so is it possible for me to partition off this (2 TB) drive into smaller pieces and use those small partitions for non crucial data? or is the bad sector thing something that spreads to the rest of the drive? i am guessing a likely response will be: since this is apparently a "hard" bad sector issue, that means it's a physical problem, therefore the problem is likely to affect more and more of the drive as time goes on.

It seems like I would be able to discern if a smallish partition had any bad sectors in it.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 02:13 AM PST

Yesterday I fitted a new motherboard, cpu & cooler into my tower & now when I switch the wall socket on the keyboard lights up & won't turn off till I turn the pc on & shutdown again. Is this normal or have I done something wrong? I don't really mind the lights being on, but it never did this with my older build. Thanks

Both screens flickering, windows 10, 2080ti

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 02:05 AM PST

    Hi,

I am having an issue where both my PC screens will flicker while on the desktop. It comes and goes but when the flickering starts its incredibly unplesant.

I am able to build PCs with my eyes closed but as soon as something like this happens I have absolutely no idea what to do.

    My System specs are:

    Windows 10

    i7-7700k @ 4.2GHz

    Gigabyte 2080ti Windforce OC edition

    32GB DDR4 3600

2TB Samsung 850 Pro and a 250GB (Kingston??) SSD for my OS

Asus ROG swift PG278Q 144hz as my main screen and an Asus VC279H 1080p LED 60hz as my 2nd screen.

I have tried updating my drivers, checked all the cables etc. All the basic stuff which has exhausted my knowlege.

If there is anymore information that you need (which im sure there is) please let me know and I will do what I can to provide it.

    Thank you,

EDIT: Forgot to add my CPU

    Added my Screens

HDD to SSD swap (non OS drive).

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 01:52 AM PST

    Hi,

I plan to replace my 1TB HDD with an SSD to run games off. It is currently my D Drive and does not have my operating system on it. Is there a good tutorial video or guide with best practices on how to do this , as most assume you are replacing the OS drive. Its not the physical aspect i am curious about (i built the pc myself) , more how to handle the information on the current D Drive HDD and set up of the new SSD. Hope this is a good place to ask. I checked the FAQ , sorry if i missed something obvious.

My laptop's hinge has come undone and is causing issues, does anyone know a fix?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 01:35 AM PST

    https://imgur.com/a/wIJmmuE

I'm not entirely sure how this happened-the hinge was somewhat broken before but after having the screen repaired it seems to have gotten worse. It's causing some issues such as charging and the screen will occasionally disconnect if I move it in a certain way, I recently paid £60 for the screen so don't really want to pay too much for it to be repaired again. It's a Lenovo g50-80. Thanks.

How to make fast-slow unstable connection to medium but stable?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 01:24 AM PST

so I use shared internet connection at my dorm, its base speed is fast and I never have any problem while browsing or streaming even when it is crowded (many people use it). but I can't playing online game because of the spiked ping, it always laggy and unstable. I suspect it is because when other connection make a request to load a page the connection will prioritize it and download the page quickly, hence when somebody load a page my ping will spiked briefly and it happens continuously. My ping goes from 2ms to 250ms. So is there any way to make it lets say 50ms but stable?

    Broken/faulty graphics card?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 01:22 AM PST

So me and my friend have built a computer together with these parts. Everything is connected, the lights and fans on everything work, but we have had a lot of trouble getting the graphics card to work. I am using windows 10. The only problem is that we cannot install the drivers for the graphics card. If the computer boots normally, everything works until a certain point where the display is cut and rebooting does the same thing. when installing the drivers, the installer has an error with the data being set out. (i tried to get an image, but i couldn't find one). i tried installing the drivers in safe mode with and without networking, but that does not work either. I have also tried reinstalling windows multiple times but that does not change anything also.

Is my graphics card faulty or is there something i am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I allready tried resetting the computer and loading an old restore point but that didnt help. If you need any more infos i will update the post acordingly. Thank you very much for all your help in advance.

Need to Update Nvidia drivers but the partition my OS is on is too small.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:43 AM PST

Title, need to update my nvidia drivers but I don't have enough disk space to update it. The C Drive where the Nvidia program wants to install the update is full because it's a partition with just enough space.

I can't expand the partition, the option is greyed out, and there's nothing left I can delete.
