Need help, which graphic card should I choose? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:48 PM PST Hello everyone. I'm planning on buying a laptop and I don't know much about graphics cards so I'd like to ask for your help. There are 2 versions for the laptop I want, one has an "Intel UHD Graphics 620" card and the other has a "NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 - 4 GB" card. I don't plan on playing triple A games but I do want to be able to play visual novels and maybe some steam/indie games like (e.g. Steins;gate, Danganronpa, Clannad, Fate/Stay Night, Mind Zero, OPUS games etc.). I googled how to see which graphics card my current, old laptop, has and it should be the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600. I can run Clannad and Fate with no issues on this laptop. I'm also not sure if it has anything to do with the graphics card but just in case, would running a drawing program like paint tool sai, inkscape or gimp be fine? Thank you in advance if you can help me! [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:14 AM PST This is my first time buying a laptop and I only have small area of knowledge regarding laptops and computers. I recently bought a Lenovo ideapad 330 having a 4gb gtx 1050 and i5-8300h for autocad, sketchup and gaming purposes. So I'm planning to add a 8gb ram(this laptop has a 4gb ram ddr4 2400) and I want to add another ram(8gb) for apex legends, pubg garena and so on. What's the best, ideal and reasonable price/cheap but good quality 8gb ram? And also do I need to buy ddr4 2400 or i can buy other ddr4 such as 2666 and etc? I'm not really good at this so I appreciate your help guys. Edit: now i know rams should have a same frequency [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:39 AM PST Hi, my Lenovo y7000 cpu core temps vary a lot under load. Core 0, 2 and 4 are almost 15 degrees hotter than 1,3 and 5. Is this normal? If not what should I do? [link] [comments]

Thinking about buying the Xiaomi Notebook Pro GTX... Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:35 AM PST I borrowed a xiaomi notebook (i7 & mx150) and I really liked its no-nonsense, clean look and thinnish build. However, I'm going to need a more heavy duty option (will use light After Effects and Total War: Three Kingdoms) so I figure the 1050ti in the GTX model will get the job done. I've heard it can run hot under load, (but I don't plan on thrashing it with flashy shooters etc). I also really like the price, and didn't like the bulk of the xiaomi gaming laptop (1060). Anyone have experience with the Xiaomi Notebook Pro GTX? Is it capable? Or, if not, what is an easy alternative? Note- I'm in mainland China if that helps. [link] [comments]

HP took my laptop for evaluation, plans on keeping it but wants to give me a 150.00 gift card Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:33 PM PST So my Chromebook laptop caught on fire some months ago. I recently gave it to HP since I learned there was a recall on my issue. I sent the laptop to HP engineers, then my case handler called me on an update. My case handler tells me that because my computer is "older" or something like that, HP engineers will not do any further repairs on the laptop. They will gift me $150.00 gift card because that is what my laptop is worth. I told her that it would be fair to up the gift card because the fire could've harmed me. As a response, she reiterated that it's the value of my laptop and that the engineers will do away with the Chromebook. Is this even fair ? [link] [comments]

Matebook D (2018) update problem Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:43 AM PST i just bought a Matebook D 2018 and i saw it had the spring update but when i wanted to update it it fails and tells me to check the internet connection. ive already tried to disable antivirus, disable and reinable windows update and also to fix windows with dism and sfc Any ideas or should i just try a recovery from the internal recovery partition? EDIT: I finally did the recovery but it still didn't update. So I installed the windows Update helper and ... It works!!! It's finally updating right now to 1809 version (it takes very long though) [link] [comments]

Do 2 meter USB3.1 type-c (Gen 2 aKA superspeed) cables exist? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:26 AM PST Been searching google for hours for a 2 meter cable that's reliable/non-sketchy. All that seems to be out there are 1 meter lengths, which makes me think there is a physical/manufacturing reason for them not being longer. Need the extra length for my laptop docking station setup. Tried extending two 1 meter cables with a female-female dongle, but this didn't work. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:25 AM PST So for the last 1 year or so I've had a touchscreen HP laptop, so this morning I went to open my laptop only to hear a cracking noise. I can't open the laptop without the screen popping off. Is there any where I can remedy this? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Laptop displays need to advance Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:04 AM PST In laptops now we can find 4k displays (max 60hz) and 240hz displays (max 1080p). But are far past mobile GPUs being able to push 60fps at above 1080p, and most of the laptops with this power reach $2500-$3000. At that price, why don't we have >=1440p 120hz displays in gaming laptops? It makes no sense to me. [link] [comments]
XPS 13 or similar recommendations? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:01 AM PST Going back for my masters and need a new laptop. The XPS 13 looks great but I'm not sure which model to get. Pretty sure the i3 isn't going to cut it. ASUS also has a few that look great but no release dates. Specifically, the UX333FN and the S13 UX392FN. Those look good to me because I also casually play the civilization games so the ultra thin laptop combined with an actual gpu sounds good. Any recommendations? I really want something very thin and light. [link] [comments]

Are 2.5 Inch SSDs on the way out? + Other Laptop SSD Question Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:49 AM PST Considering buying a 2.5 inch/7mm SSD to revitalize my 4 year laptop since prices are relatively cheap right now. Not as familiar with laptops as I am as with DIY PCs, have two main concerns 1) Are laptops shifting to being thin enough to make 2.5' drives obsolete? Aka if I get a SSD for my laptop the next laptop i get in a few years won't have a 2.5' drive bay to just plug my old SSD in 2) This laptop is from a few years back and originally had Windows 8 I think before I upgraded it to Windows 10. I know laptop Windows licenses are on the mobo, so will I get a legit copy of Windows 10 just installing onto the preexisting mb? Cheers, [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:40 AM PST I have an LG Gram 17 arriving tomorrow. One of the gripes I have read in many reviews is the SSD speed being sluggish. I am interested in doing an upgrade (have seen some videos, never done it myself yet) My questions are about making sure I purchase not only the correct SSD, but also find out if increasing speed is even an option. I know you can buy BIGGER SSD's (I think adding a 1T would be good), but can you buy FASTER ones or does the LG hardware prevent that (SATA3?) Basically, I guess I am asking if increased speed is possible or just increased storage (and which SSD would you suggest getting. This was a replay from LG on a Best Buy question: We list the hard drive as an M.2 2280 SSD (Solid State Drive) and the interface as SATA3 for the 17Z990-R.AAS8U1, but the M.2 interface is designed to use either Legacy SATA mode or the newer PCI-Express (PCIe) modes and the drive will pick which one to use. The slots in the laptop are labeled as NVMe x 4 and NVMe x 2 so if an NVMe SSD is connected to the slots, NVMe command will be used. ^CP [link] [comments]
