I am going to throw my PC out the window Tech Support

I am going to throw my PC out the window

    Posted: 14 Feb 2019 11:36 AM PST

This is a copy-paste from tomshardware, not getting to much help there.

Every single game I try to play on my PC is horribly laggy. It wasn't like this a few week ago, it happened out of nowhere. My games show high FPS, for instance League Of Legends shows my FPS to be 200+ and is choppy and laggy still. CSGO is unplayable, and APEX Legends runs terribly. My PC is enough to handle these games, here are the specs.

Specs are as follows. Dell 27inch 1440p Gsync 1ms monitor, Ryzen 5 1600, GSkill Trident Z 16gb 3200mhz DDR4, Crosshair vengeance IV motherboard, Nvidia 1060 6gb FE, Seasonic bronze fully modular PSU, Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD.

At this point im temped to sell it AS-IS and swap to console gaming. All my drivers are up to date, running a FRESH install of windows 10, everything I am on it up to date. My temps are never over 40-50C on both my CPU and GPU and I have no issues doing anything on the PC besides playing games. My motherboard was recently replaced this passed to week to see if that was the issue and it clearly isn't. I have already messed with nvidia 3D settings and set them to what everyone recommends, also the games are NOT using my on-board graphics card. Seeing as I have covered about 99% of the recommendations everyone tells me to do, that haven't helped at all, does anyone have any insight on what to do? I can replace things, money isn't and issue but I don't want to buy things when I might not need to. Please at this point im desperate, anyone can chime in before I throw this POS out the window. I was thinking possibly a PSU problem and the board isn't getting enough power? That sounds stupid though. Here is the most recent benchmark for my PC: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/14694147

I have been troubleshooting this for a week at least, any help is appreciated, thank you!

    CPU overheating

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 02:20 AM PST

I've recently upgraded my pc from nearly the ground up, (old cooler though) I haven't booted windows yet but I'm having problems with my CPU temperature.

I'm using a liquid cooler (Corsair h100i gtx) from my old build. The cpu fans are not registering on the BIOS but they are spinning and all LED lights are on, within 2-3 minutes of starting cpu temperatures hit 90. Not sure what to do.

    CPU is 9700k
    Thermal paste applied
Motherboard is Gigabyte Aorus pro wifi.

Is there supposed to be a certain smell when your graphic card runs?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 03:20 AM PST

I've had my pc for about 2 years and it has never given off this sort of 'burning metal' smell. When i called the pc repair guy to check it out, he said that there could be this smell when the graphic card is working. I've checked the temperatures and it never goes above 70( degrees celsius). The card is still in warranty(Its a GTX 970 btw). Can you guys help?

Edit: He checked the graphics card and everything seemed to be fine

Computer randomly Black Screens during use (audio cutoff as well)

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 12:50 AM PST

I have been trying to see if there was a way to get my ram to stay at the stable rated 3000 mhz 1.35-1.4 voltz 16-18-18-54. I tried OC'ing the cpu with ai suite 3, 5 way optimization(crashed at 4050 mhz, 1.35 voltz) which started to make my computer black screen 1-10 minutes after start up. I reset my cmos and returned everything back to default. Now its randomly black screening on regular use around 1-2 times per day(10 hours avg use time). I'm thinking this is a faulty ram but my computer started to go haywire so I don't know if i messed up my cpu as well using ai suite. Also all my temps while the black screen happens are 50-60 c for gpu and cpu as well.

Specs: RAM, CPU, and MOBO are all new(within 3 months Dec 2018)CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

    RAM: Team T-force Vulcan 16gb 2 sticks 3000 mhz rated ddr4 sdram

    MOBO: B350 f-gamingGPU: strix 1070PSU: 6 year old Corsair TX850m

    ssd also 6 years old.

HDMI Audio Issues Between PC and TV

    Posted: 14 Feb 2019 09:02 PM PST

I know HDMI audio issues are often a thing, but I haven't seen a post with quite exactly this problem. My apologies if it's already been asked!

I'm trying to get my (roommate's) desktop to go through my (roommate's) new TV. Plugged in HDMI: video is good, no audio. Volume control in taskbar has a little red X. Went to audio devices, and although the desktop recognizes the TV and I have it set to default audio, still no sound. When I click "configure", nothing happens. Tried updating drivers, tried all three HDMI inputs on the TV, tried different HDMI cables.

Twist: new TV can do HDMI audio with laptop. Desktop can do HDMI audio with old TV. But I cannot get them to work with each other!

Both computers are running Windows 10. Old TV is a Samsung, new TV is a Westinghouse with 4k (in case that's relevant.)

I'll be very grateful for any help you folks can offer!

I might have artifacts on Xiaomi Mi A2

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 12:18 AM PST

I get black lines flickering across screen when watching YouTube videos and using camera. It is getting more and more prevalent and frequent as the time goes on. I thought it was a gpu issue, but nothing like this happens when I run 3d mark, only when there is some video playback.

Can anybody please confirm if that's a hardware issue so I can send it for warranty repair.

Netflix and Hulu lag my computer and games.

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 03:49 AM PST

Everytime I try to watch netflix or hulu it lags my computer horribly especially while gaming. My mmo's, singleplayer, steam, and any other game suffer lag. Even typing this message I can tell the text lagging and appearing slower than normal. I also even notice mouse lag. What is causing this issue? I have tried updating all graphics, programs, and re-installing everything.

I have a gaming pc with GTX 1080, I7 cpu, good psu and other components.

Green screen while benchmarking/gaming - HUGE problem!!!

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 03:34 AM PST

    PC Specs:

    Ryzen 5 2400G (RX Vega 11 iGPU)

    G.Skill Aegis 16GB 3000MHz 2x8 DDR4

    Mobo ASUS A320M-K

Hello guys. So, I have green screen crash or reboots when gaming/benchmarking for about 20 minutes, especially when running Heaven Unigine benchmark. I don't think it's PSU failure because everything was working perfectly fine before I updated BIOS and MAYBE, but MAYBE because I installed new RAM. I won't be too long. Things I have tried:

    • Clearing CMOS multiple times
    • Switching RAM sticks
    • Tried downgrading the BIOS (failed, mobo doesn't support USB flashback, error "Selected file is not a proper BIOS!" in EZ Flash 3)
    • Reinstalling Windows 10 multiple times
    • Installing newest chipset and GPU drivers
    • Clean uninstalling GPU drivers with DDU in safe mode and then reinstalling the newest drivers normally
    • Clean installing GPU drivers with AMD Cleanup Utility
    • Turning off D.O.C.P and setting manual timings, frequency and voltage
    • Turning on D.O.C.P Standard
    • Underclocking to 2933 MHz
    • Overclocking SOC voltage to 1.5V (it was on 1.062V)
    • Overclocking RAM voltage from 1.35V to 1.365V
    • Overclocking memory frequency to 3200 MHz in hope it will be stable
    • And yeah - Myself sitting in front of the monitor for 4 days, 8 hours each trying to solve this problem.

Is there any hope guys? I don't want to buy any new components for now, I spent a lot of money on this PC in hope to play some games and relax, but then this happened. I appreciate all the answers and thanks in advance.

Sure as hell i will lose this client

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 03:30 AM PST

Hi all. My job is to fix PCs, I have a small local shop. This one is just a crazy problem: PC will show bios startup and load OS only if it's not the first time i've connected it to power.

If you connect it to power and try to power it on it won't.

If you just tried to power it up for the first time since connecting it to electricity and then restart it, it will load normally.

If you shut down the PC and DO NOT unplug from electricity next time it WILL power up.

I've already done a BIOS reset, cleaned with a rubber electrical pins on RAM and GPU, checked hard disk for corrupt sectors, tried to power it up without HD and GPU, tried to switch RAM slot. Nothing has worked so far.

I am going to keep working on it trying various things but a third opinion would be much appreciated

Disconnecting and reconnecting to my router fixes some issues, but only temporarily?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 03:28 AM PST

If I'm online for an amount of time, watching youtube and browsing reddit, basic stuff, there will come a time when I'm trying to load new page or video and it seems to hang up. The page might even time out. But if I go down to the taskbar, disconnect and reconnect, the problem goes away, sometimes only for another 20 minutes, sometimes for an hour. It seems to happen more if I'm moving back and forth through web pages fairly quickly, like scanning forward through a few wikipedia articles, then jumping back 3 or 4 to the main one I was actually intending to read.

I'm wondering if it's a router issue? It'll happen on both my laptop and my desktop. My router is only 2 years old though. It happens if I'm on both 2.4 and 5ghz bands.

    Setting up a new router?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 03:18 AM PST

Idk of this is the right place but I am trying to set up a new router for my family and after struggling for quite a while I'm beginning to feel frustrated. Btw I am not a tech expert at all and am quite young so please bare with me 😅 Below is all the info on what I have:

My family's ISP is Frontier, although it used to be Verizon so the current network setup is almost 10 years old and all the equipment was installed when we were still under Verizon (before Frontier tookover them). I believe I have cable internet under their 50/50 speed plan these days but idk if that matter. And the reason why I'm getting a new router is that my current one is extremely old and the connection often drops.

I currently have a very old Actiontec MI424WR-gen2 router, although with a bit of research it seems to actually be a router/modem combo. I believe I'm using cable internet as a coaxial cable is connected to the router. And I have purchased the TP-Link AC1750 Archer A7 Router that I would like to use as my new dedicated router.

My problem is that I have tried following the setup guide for the Linksys router but after plugging in the Ethernet cable to the new router, there's a connection shown on my computer but no Internet. Every time I am told to reset the modem and go to that IP site on my laptop the Linksys page says it's trying to finish setup -> fails -> please unplug modem, wait and try again.

I believe this is because my old router/modem is not a dedicated modem but I tried looking online and have found few solutions that I barely understand such as "bridging" but I don't even know what that is or if that's even what I'm looking to do. Someone told me I should turn off the "router"/internet connection on the old device but I have no clue how to even do any of those things.

    Any help is appreciated!

Z97i board boot looping - No display, no sound

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 03:09 AM PST

    Hi,

I've recently started having issue with my Asus Z97i board with a 4670k in it, where it continually spins fans, dies, spins fans again... ad infinitum. I tried to update the BIOS but I'm not sure I've succeeded at all so far. I've tried the RAM, PSU and processor in another board I have and it boots just fine, so I'm starting to suspect some hardware issue with the board itself. Anyone have experience with this issue?

    Thanks!

    RX 480 8GB running hot

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 02:42 AM PST

for the last couple of months my card has been running really hot. It's idling around 65 degrees, and it's inside a range between 85 - 91 Degrees when under load.It doesnt matter if i turn the graphic settings down, it will still stand in this range.I recently cleaned my computer from dust.I got Intake fans infront and beside the card, and plenty of room behind the computer to blow the hot air out. This might have been going on for a while, but i just noticed it when starting to play RE2

Any help or tip is heavily appriciated! Thanks in advance! And please tell me if there is any additional info i can provide!

My Nvidia 560m is dying, can I lower the clock speeds on the card bios or something?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 02:41 AM PST

    Windows 10 64 bits, MSI GT683R laptop.

I noticed in NvidiaInspector that it has 4 clock modes, 2 of them are the high performance ones, but at those clocks (770Mhz and 810Mhz respectively), it shows a lots of artifacts and fucks windows up.

If I set up the clocks to 600Mhz everything goes fine.

The issue with this, is that the laptop still starts with the default clocks, which makes infuriating trying to use NvidiaInspector until you are able to lower the clocks.

Is there any way to start the laptop with those clocks on the graphic card? NvidiaInspector keeps resetting, and MSI Afterburner doesn't apply the settings sometimes. I searched about modifying the bios, but that seems overkill to me. I will do it if it's the only possibility tho.

Could you throw some insight here? Thanks in advance!

CPU Not Operating At Full Power While Running Certain Game

    Posted: 14 Feb 2019 10:50 PM PST

Recently I've been reaching the limits of my patience with my PC; I play games on it, and for whatever reason a certain one that I play a lot has been running (from a FPS perspective) and loading slower than usual. My NVIDIA drivers were up to date, so I'd been stress-testing and diagnosing till the cows started coming home, all to no avail - I was about to punch my MB when I noticed something; while testing the slow-running game, CPUz was reporting a CPU clock speed of 1.9Ghz. This is strange since A.) I have a 3770K @ 3.50 Ghz and B.) I have it overclocked to 4.2Ghz. I tried other games that haven't been affected, and my CPU was clocking in at 4.2Ghz. I then ran Prime95, and sure enough, my cores were all hitting 4.2Ghz.

Does anyone know what would cause something like this? Could this be caused by a bad patch, or is it more likely something on my end?

    Intel turbo Boost not functioning

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 02:27 AM PST

I have a fairly old lenovo laptop with an i7-4710MQ (2.5GHz, 3.2GHz with boost).
Recently the turbo boost stopped working and the processor speed is stuck at 2.49GHZ. A little bit of gaming on the go was possible on this machine, but not being able to go beyond 2.5GHZ really hurts performance in CPU heavy games.

I am aware turbo boost only kicks in under load and when thermals are ok. But the thermals stay below 70°C (turbo boost was working earlier with higher temps, so that's not the problem).

I also checked the power management. The high power plan is enabled, which allows the processor to be utilised for 100%. I also checked the other setting of this power plan and found no other setting that struck out as relevant.

I Also checked the bios setting. No setting concerning the turbo boost was present.

I used Intel's diagnostic tool, which returned an all ok.

Before I swapped out the hard drive a few months ago for an SSD I had a similar problem. Then the sollution was a piece of software that let you change some cpu settings like turbo boost. When I disabled and enabled turbo boost it worked again, but I can not for the life of me remember the name of the software and it's driving me nuts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bought a new 144hz monitor instead of my old 60hz

As far as I'm concerned, HDMI only supports up to 60hz. How am I noticing a massive difference between the 144 and 60hz although I'm connected using an HDMI cable? Also why does it show in my Nvidia display settings that I'm on 120hz.. Why can't I reach 144?

Internet cutting out every 25-40 minutes only when my roommates PC is on

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 02:24 AM PST

Prefacing I'm not the most tech savvy so pardon if something I say is incorrect. For the last 5 days whenever my roommate's pc is on our internet will go down on every system for about 3 minutes every 25-40 minutes. The last two days I noticed it stopped happening as soon as he went to bed and he informed me that the issue was happening this morning when he was up and I wasn't.

I've spoken to Spectrum (woo) 3 times today. Once the lady changed our channel from auto to a specific one, the second lady just powered it and said "the issue will be gone", and the third guy said there were 12 interferences on the line in the last 24 hours. He's sending a tech out tomorrow to look at the lines but idk what to tell him about my roommates PC since he'll be asleep when the guy comes over. That's what makes me confused about whether or not it's related to my roommates PC specifically.

We got a new modem after the issue had already started and that somehow made the situation worse as it was only happening every 2 hours or so before. Both he and I are connected by Ethernet to the router.

If there's any important information I'm leaving out I'll be happy to add it

Monitor will only register my PC after i remove the power cord from the monitor and plug it back in.

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 02:23 AM PST

My monitors Dell s2716dg is working flawlessly until i turn the PC off after a gaming session and turn then turning it back on again.

When i turn it back on, only my secondary monitor seems to register the PC, while the Dell Monitor remains black.

This is fixed by removing the power cord from the back of the monitor and plugging it back in again. This is pretty annoying, anyone know a solution?

My laptop likes to pretend it has reset itself (W10 Lenovo)

    Posted: 15 Feb 2019 01:48 AM PST

So sometimes my laptop will suddenly take on its just-been-reset state.

Startup programs I have since closed will be open, I'll be signed out of stuff, the mouse will be disabled (doesnt happen during normal startup but happens here a lot), things like that.

I'm not sure what could be causing it because I never get a warning about an automatic reset like I usually do, I never see the laptop actually shut off and turn on again or close programs or go through the normal processes, this can happen within less than a minute of not paying direct attention to it. It never happens while I'm actually using it.

    What could this be?
