Any suggestions? ***Forgot some info: - I'm in China, but I'm inclined to buy one of the Taiwanese brands - 15.6" screen, I bring it to work every day - weight/thinness not really a factor - 5lbs or so is fine - decent screen but i'm not picky - windows 10 - i think i'm looking for best specs for the money [link] [comments] |
Searching for a best gaming laptop possible as of 2019 Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:08 AM PST Hi everyone! I'm from Russia. I have a chance to get a gaming laptop due to my bday coming soon. The budget is secondary. Convenience is optional - I'd not prefer a super thin laptop for gaming (cause it might have problems with cooling and upgrading). I'd like a real beast. For example, something like the the latest MSI GT75 Titan (the problem is either that it's not out yet(?) or I can't find any retailers in my country). Spec preferences - i7 or i9, and the latest RTX 20 series, VR support, upgrade opportunity (optional). [link] [comments] |
Amateur photographer from Europe, need help choosing my new bf Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:34 AM PST Hi! I'm looking into buying a quality device and my head just starts spinning from all the specs. Most of the YT and web 'top 5's' seem biased and US oriented. I would really appreciate some real recommendations from you guys/gals.

Help deciding on a gaming laptop Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:30 AM PST Good day fellow redditors. I'm in need of urgent assistance. I'm currently in the middle of deciding between 2 gaming laptops: Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" FHD IPS w/ 144Hz Refresh Rate, Intel 6-Core i7-8750H, Overclockable GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB DDR4, 256GB NVMe SSD, Aeroblade Metal Fans PH315-51-78NP OR MSI GP63 Leopard-013 120Hz 3ms 94%NTSC Performance Gaming Laptop i7-8750H (6 cores) GTX 1060 6G, 16GB 128GB + 1TB, 15.6" I'm currently leaning towards the MSI. Even though it's more expensive at $1,349.99, I still think thats its the better choice but I am not that into technology to be able to make a clear distinction. The Predator Helios 300 is cheapter at $1099.99 but the MSI just feels better. Please lend me your insight, as I am not willing to go more than $1400 , but need something with the specs of both laptops. [link] [comments] |

All round laptop for Polytechnic (Singapore) Posted: 24 Feb 2019 07:55 PM PST Hello i'm new to this sub redddit and reddit altogether . I got recommended to ask my question here. And err here goes nothing I'm awaiting into a Polytechnic in Singapore. I'll start in mid-April. As of right now, i am searching for a laptop that fulfills the requirements the school listed out on their website as well as some of my own criteria https://www.rp.edu.sg/it-enhanced-learning/notebook You can check out the page, but i'll put down the requirements in the form anyways. FORM Total budget and country of purchase: Anything up to SGD2500, Singapore Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Never really trusted 2 in 1s in general (i see it rather as a gimmick, but that's just my opinion). A solid Thermal handling, as much as possible. Decent Battery life, preferably anything better. •I need an I5 or an I7 Core processor. •8GB or 16GB RAM •Storage wise i'd need a minimum 512GB SSD and a 1TB (i could possibly tinker around with this particular requirement because its way too specific) How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight? Nahh But Thinness? I already have a 15 inch Herschel laptop sleeve that i WANT to use, so that your measure of thickness limit and size limit i'd say Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10 Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 inch or maybe lower, if possible Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I am not sure whether a 'Diploma in Infocomm Security'(Basically Cybersecurity) requires some heavy duty hardware, so i will just need something decent that holds up. And yes, i do play games (Edit : Cybersecurity apparently requires some serious hardware to hold up) If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Ace Combat 7, Fallout 4, Minecraft, and in the future, Metro Exodus. As for settings, i'd play either on medium or high graphics and between 60 FPS and 100 FPS should do fine Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Preferably all-round, but i could compromise certain things here and there on an impromptu basis. Oh and it should last well after my 3 years of Polytechnic Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Yes i am fully aware that no one thing is able to do everything properly, thus i'm willing to sacrifice things here and there if i have to. I actually have already scouted around and i've found a few candidates, but y'all feel free to add in some more and/or share your thoughts on my options so far (seriously tho they're mostly gaming laptops) In order of preference 1)Razer Blade 15 inch ~2)Dell XPS 15 (not the 2 in 1 version)~ (Final Edit : Not a good idea....) 2)MSI GS65 3)Latest Dell Inspiron 4)Lenovo Y730/Y740 5)Gigabyte Aero 15 6)Top Configuration Razer Stealth Blade In the link i provided, under the tab "Roadshow Laptops" is a list of laptops vendors working with my school are selling. As of the time i'm writing this however, the list has not yet been updated for this year. Thus my end goal is to mull over all the possible options i have and see which is the perfect one for me. As for Software for School use, its provided, don't worry. (Please note this is quite a lengthy-ass post i have done in my life. As such i may need to update some aspects of my post) [link] [comments] |
500€ laptop for college in France Posted: 25 Feb 2019 04:40 AM PST
500€ in France, however I'm willing to go a little bit over budget if you can find an unicorn, and I'm willing to import as long as it's around my budget
Battery life is very important to me as I will use the laptop in college, I'd rather not have a 2 in 1
Light enough to carry in a backpack, however I'm a pretty big guy so weight isn't my #1 concern
Windows, however I'd be willing to move to Chrome OS as long as there are some serious alternatives to Word and Powerpoint
Maximum size would be 14"
No
A full HD display would be nice, an SSD of at least 128go, and if it has a backlit keyboard then it's perfect
I'm already considering 2 options :-the Lenovo Ideapad 530s-14ARR that I can get for 450€, however I've heard mixed reviews about the Ideapads in general and AMD CPUs -the Acer Swift 3 SF314-56-58S7 that would cost me 499€, and has a smaller SSD, apparently a worse GPU (not that it matters a lot), but Intel components This is the laptop I'm currently using, except mine is Full HD and has a 64go emmc, but I can't find the exact model anywhere on the internet (it's an L403N apparently), my main problem with is is its horrendous CPU, I'm kinda fine with the rest, even though the screen isn't that good and the SSD is incredibly small [link] [comments] |
A thin and light Laptop with a GPU under 900$ Posted: 25 Feb 2019 04:23 AM PST So I'm looking for a laptop that has a Dedicated GPU, under 1.5kg or 3.6lbs and preferably with a GPU. I have seen some laptops that fit my requirements, however, they either don't have upgradable RAM or are not sold in my region. I also need to say that the Asus Vivobook slim S410UN is not sold where I am from, and thus can't buy it without the shipping being more than 100$ or taking more than 19 days expected arrival time. I live in Malaysia, so I'm hopefully looking for something that I can buy at stores because online in this country is a mess. Here are the minimum specs:- core i5 + 16gb ram (or upgradable ram) radeon rx530 or Mx150 graphics bellow 1.5 kgs everything else can be anything [link] [comments] |
[EU, €600-€700] Mostly freelance 13,3-14" writing laptop, capable of running older games Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:37 AM PST Hi! I'm looking for a portable laptop that I would be able to comfortably use for writing – and also running older games. Most of the time it would be docked at home with a monitor, so the long battery life is not a must. BUT I would also like to sometimes play some older games on it (last thing I played on a PC was Morrowind so, yeah).

Best-value Mac for Professional Software Development / Video Editing Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:03 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: From Philippines. Price will depend on the "configuration" of the Mac suggested (the goal is to get the "best value" Macbook configuration, as shitty as their prices are) Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply: It's a Mac so :) How important is weight and thinness to you? Non-factor. Macbooks are lightweight regardless of model (Pro/Air) Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Mac (I'll explain why) Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Not less that 13" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. The following will be it's primary use, hence why I'm opting for Mac despite having Windows laptop that are of "better" value:
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? See above. Preferably I can play both games at high settings, but this is not important Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? "Touch-bar" is not mandatory, preferably not included to save cost. Question is there a good-spec configuration which does not have it? Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This will be a carry (almost) everywhere, productivity machine which will be used for my freelance projects and work. Preferably suggest a configuration that could easily be future-proof within the next 4-5 years of usage. Thank you for your suggestions :) [link] [comments] |
Buying a laptop for the Grandma help me Obi-Wan. Posted: 24 Feb 2019 06:22 PM PST So I previously bought my grandma an Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM. After 2 years that laptop is now D E D dead. What a lifetime. She watches lots of movies and browses the internet so nothing too fancy. What's important is she really wants a 17"+ screen, 1080p, maybe IPS if its possible, I would like her to have an SSD probably 256gig+. So a high quality screen with an ssd at around 600$. She lives in California. All I'm finding in that range is...more Acers.... [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:41 AM PST Hey all. I am currently in my senior of high school and in search of a new laptop. I currently use a Surface Pro 3 and an Acer Aspire E 15. My main reasons for upgrading are that my devices currently are getting outdated fast when it comes to hardware and I can't play some of the games my friends are playing, like Anthem. Budget for this upgrade is USD $3000 The laptops I have been looking at currently are:
I should mention that I am planning to major in Physics (Space / Astrophysics to be more specific) and so if that implies any certain performance requirements then please be aware of that. Games I play include Destiny 2, WoW, MHW, and hopefully Anthem at some point. Thank you for any help and/or suggestions you can give me and I hope you all have a wonderful day! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2019 08:51 AM PST Hello reddit, I'm in a tough situation now. My parents decided to gift me a laptop. Now, it's true what they say that it would be kind of nice to have it at uni. I'm studying mechanical engineering, second semester, and it would be useful for my programming and CAD classes to have a machine with me that I can use Visual Studio and Solid Edge on. I don't doubt the laptop could handle those well. Now, the problem is, I have a desktop at home with i5-4570, R9 290 and 8 GB RAM. In our financial situation, I feel it's a rather "pointless luxury" for me to have a second PC while the one I have is far from being obsolete. Now, the laptop we set out to choose with my father if I decide to ask for a laptop after all, is [this Dell G3](https://www.digiprime.hu/laptop/dell-laptop/dell-inspiron-3579-ar/dell-inspiron-15-3579-g3-40177-elado). i7-8750H, GTX1050Ti, 16GB. Let's suppose I decide to get it. I know the processor is far better than what I have, but the 1050 Ti is still not as powerful as the GPU I have in my desktop. I was always stuggling with bottlenecking with the 4570, but I fear it would be just the other way around now. I'm mostly playing Overwatch and Apex, which run pretty well. Do you think, staying in 1080p, that the new laptop can handle the games just as well as my old rig? I know you have nothing to do with the decision, but would you get the laptop in this situation? Sorry for the long drawn out whining, thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help. [link] [comments] |

looking for a desktop replacement (budget is whatever gets me the best product) Posted: 24 Feb 2019 10:04 PM PST I've been using a desktop for the better part of the last six years, but I travel frequently for work now and I'd like to not leave the majority of my investment home every time I travel. I have a midrange laptop (that I currently travel with) that is a few years old now that's decent for gaming and work but I hate transferring stuff between devices regularly. I'm looking to replace both with an all in one solution that I can take with me when I'm on the go, or plug into dock of some sort when I'm home so I can use my existing monitors, mouse, and keyboard. Any ideas?

Macbook vs Zenbook/ Surface Pro Posted: 24 Feb 2019 09:55 PM PST My sis is a fashion designer and is starting her own fashion line as a side business besides her job. At work she uses the iMac which gives her absolutely perfect performance. Now she needs to buy a laptop for home. The only softwares that she'd be using are Photoshop, Illustrator and a little bit of MS Office. Initially I was suggesting a Macbook Pro as the Air is too primitive but I'm not very impressed with the reviews of the new Macbook Pro. Right now I'm bending towards the Asus Zenbook series or maybe one of the Surface Laptops. Budget is around $1500 - $2000. I'd highly appreciate your help in choosing the right one guys! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop for uni. (USD $1200) Posted: 24 Feb 2019 09:05 PM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
**Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? No real preference for 2in1 but being able to hand write notes on it would be nice. It needs a decent battery life being able to last about 6-8 hours *How important is weight and thinness to you? I'm going to be carrying on a pretty big commute 1-2 hours so as light as possible. **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows **Do you have a preferred screen size? 15 inches+ **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Stata a program used to analyse stats. **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? An 80% keyboard (I think this is the one with no num pad. I don't need a num pad) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2019 08:20 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: Minimum of $1,450, goal of $1,800. US. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Portability, non-gamer look, best specifications. How important is weight and thinness to you? Kind of. I want something thin to pack around in my backpack. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.6". Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Video editing (Premiere Pro), 3D modeling (Blender), gaming. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? The games I play run fine on a 1050 Ti already. (League of Legends, Warframe, For Honor, Titanfall 2.) But, I want a 1060 to play upcoming titles (Cyberpunk 2077 or DOOM Eternal.) Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Muted aesthetics for public use. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I've already narrowed it down to two options, I just want some other opinions before I make my purchase. It's between the Dell G3 15 and the MSI GS65. With the G3 15, I would upgrade the RAM to 16 GB. With the GS65, I would upgrade the storage with a 2.5" HDD. They both would have nearly identical specs at that point, but the key differences are the battery and the screen. The GS65 has a 144 Hz, 7 MS response time display, plus better color accuracy. Though, I'm not sure if that justifies the $500 price difference over the G3 15. Also, note that I am open to other laptops besides these two. E: formatting [link] [comments] |
Acer nitro 5 vs hp pavilion gaming? Posted: 24 Feb 2019 07:49 PM PST Both of these laptops are available to me for the same price, with the exact same specs [Intel core i5 8300h - 8gb ram - gtx 1050ti] the only difference would be that the acer comes with 265gb ssd while the hp comes with Intel optane memory. Which one is better ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2019 03:30 PM PST I'm considering a Surface Go since I'm a college student and they seem really nice for basic word processing, web browsing and note-taking (I don't game on my laptop). My current Aspire E 15 feels dated and only has 4 gigs of RAM, but I'm worried that upgrading to a Surface Go with the same 4 gigs, even with an SSD, won't be much of an upgrade. Would an upgrade to an SSD help a lot with speed/performance in the first place, or should I shell out the extra $150 for an extra 4 gigs as well since I like having a lot of tabs open at once when web browsing? Thanks in advance! I'm located in the US and my budget could cover the $550 model, I just don't want to spend the money if it won't be worth it for my purposes. [link] [comments] |
