Accidentally Cliked on PornHub. Can my parents see that? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:14 PM PST So I was on buzzfeed, and I accidentally clicked on a link. It brought me to PornHub. I shut it off after not even a second and I'm scared my parents can see what sites I visit. Maybe I'm just a really paranoid person, but my dad works in IT security and knows a lot about computers. Will they find out? What do I do if they question me? Please help a terrified 14 year old. [link] [comments] |
There's a username in OS (C): > Users that I did not create. Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:53 AM PST While looking through what's on my C drive today, I noticed a folder in Users that I did not create. There is only one user on my computer (myself) that can be logged into and used. But there's a username in the files called Mik, which is one letter off from my main user (Mike). Inside that folder is a folder called Andy, then a folder called Backup. Nothing is inside the folders. It says it was created Jan 19 2018. Needless to say, that's kinda shady. Anyone have any idea why this exists? Any advice on what I should do? [link] [comments] |

Ubuntu installation crashes, laptop not working Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:52 AM PST Hi, i tried installing Ubuntu 15.10 on my Lenovo Ideapad 330 that had win 10,it was going well until it got to selecting location, then it crashed. After that i waited few minutes and than restarted my laptop, which now didn't turn on Ubuntu installation nor Win 10,its just a black screen with blinking _ . I tried entering BIOS but that didn't work also,(previously went to BIOS trough troubleshooting). EDIT:There is this pin sized button on the side of laptop, that should open BIOS, that doesn't work either. [link] [comments] |
Any idea what's wrong with my microphones? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:51 AM PST I've bought at least 3 top quality microphones because I have been wanting a good mic. First it was a mod mic.. Listening to youtube samples and reviews of it on youtube shows it's a great mic, people are speaking with a great audio with it. Some people have to use an external USB sound adapter to get it to that good quality, but they cost like $5-$15. I bought one too and it helped a lot but it was still too crappy. I also always end up having to use a program called banana voicemeeter to boost the compressor for even louder voice audio but that also increases the static background noise. Then I got a yeti blue snowball ice but I have to keep my mouth 10 cm away from it, it also doesnt have usb, and it wasnt good enough simply.. even though it seemed great on youtube reviews. Then I got a wireless corsair void pro RGB, a headset that comes with a mic attached. Great audio samples of the mic on youtube again.. but i can barely be heard even if they boost my volume to 200% on Discord. I have to turn compressor to maximum possible in Voicemeeter plus they have to have me at 200% volume on Discord and even then I'm not that loud. I've gone though so much audo troubleshooting stuff in the past until I gave up, think I've tried it all. Tried reinstalling all kind of different drivers too.. going through what settings I need to have enabled or disabled.. etc... no success. I'm wondering if it could be because of my motherboard? It's the only thing I can think of really. Could it be like that? The motherboard is MK ASUS H110M-A mATX, 110, 1151, DDR4. I just want to be able to have a loud volume, without the need of voicemeeter or them having to boost my volume in Discord to 200%. And I want it to sound good without lots of static background noise. I'm not expecting studio professional quality ofc. I just really want to work with jobs that require VoIP but I can't because my crappy microphones. The job I tried out, they said everyone else they've hired that are working remote from home have no problems with their mics using the VoIP software.. it's only me that have problem. I don't even know if the problem with my poor microphones is the same problem that is causing bad VoIP tbh, the problem with VoIP is that sometimes they can hear me (with my usual bad quality mic) but sometimes they cant hear me, like they can hear im saying something but its so silent they cant understand the words, then I call them on my real phone and its ok. That could be because of packet loss I guess.. but I just dont think so at the same time, because in order to remove packet loss on my end, I need to have like a super expensive pro router that can allow me to create VLAN and all that advanced technical stuff, because most routers dont have that functionality. It's the type of routers that businesses and corporations buy, that's why they're expensive. But everyone else who work from home they don't have that kind of special router, they never have problems, plus the VoIP softwares should work anyway, like Discord always works even though packet loss happens for lots of people, Discord is built to expect that to happen, they have stuff happening in the background that takes care of packet loss. Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:01 PM PST I killed my laptop, the night before a huge presentation. There's so much I haven't backed up on this system in the past few months, and I'm kicking myself. I'm trying to stay calm, but I'd love your input if anyone knows what I should do next... Basically, it dropped from a counter and wouldn't turn on. Tried taking it apart and doing a hard reset with the battery disconnected, and it still wouldn't turn on. So, I gingerly removed the drive (a M dot 2 Stata drive, they said? mSATA drive), wrapped it with a piece of paper, put it in a ziploc bag, and then took it to Best Buy to find a docking adapter to salvage it ASAP. They didn't have one so I begged the GS guys there to try to see if there was ANY data on it since I knew they had an adapter in back. The guy there tried for about 5 minutes and then came back and said that their system "kept trying to read it" but couldn't...and that I should take it elsewhere to see if someone else could. How can I try to save my data r/techsupport? What should I try next? (And thank you. I'm so ashamed that I didn't back it up properly. But I appreciate any help you can offer). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 02:28 AM PST So I'm using a 5TB Seagate and I dropped it not more than maybe 2ft but now every time I plug it into my computer it won't find the seagate at all. There's no damage on the outside housing and no strange noises that I can notice coming from it. I get the sound when the USB is plugged in but I can't find it in device manager or anything. It just doesn't show up anywhere. It has all my games and movies on it while I'm on deployment and it'd be a huge bummer if now I can't use any of it. Please please help [link] [comments] |
Please can anyone tell me why I can't deactivate my account? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 02:22 AM PST Won't work in either old reddit or new...I've sent messages but not had anything back and it's been 48 hours of trying. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:02 PM PST Hi all! I'm extremely stumped on this one and haven't been able to find very much on the web relating to anything like this so I'd very much appreciate any advice anyone could give me! : ) I woke up yesterday morning to find that my main desktop computer on my network suddenly is not able to visit websites after a very short amount of time after booting up and connecting. To elaborate: I start up my computer, log in, see the internet tray icon showing a connection to the internet, I then open my browser and am able to load a Google search or two or half of the YouTube homepage and then it just hangs and any page I visit afterwards my browser tells me, "we can't connect to the server at [website]". I have a bit of a weird setup with my internet right now where I don't have a wifi adapter in this computer and it isn't really feasible for me to run an ethernet cable to it, so I've plugged a wifi extender into a nearby outlet and have been running an ethernet cable from that into the computer. I have been running this setup for over two months now, since i got the computer, with zero issues. All the other devices on the network are working fine. So far I have tried: -restarting my modem/router (Bell Home Hub 1000) -restarting my pc -power cycling both -connecting the extender with ethernet cable to another computer (that all worked fine) -running a windows network diagnostic, which returned "DNS server is not responding" -changing my ipv4 DNS server -flushing my DNS record -uninstalling and reinstalling ethernet adapter drivers -download and installing new ethernet adapter drivers -ipconfig release & renew -changing my MAC address -resetting winsock -netsh int ip reset -running AVG deep scan (returned nothing) -uninstalling software I installed the day before this problem -booting into safemode with networking (internet works here just fine) My specs are: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Asus P9X79 WS X79 S2011 ATX Motherboard Intel i7-4930K 3.4Ghz 6-core CPU 16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B DIMM 1600 MHz PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM Antec Truepower Gold 650W ATX PSU CM Hyper 212 EVO Universal CPU Cooler NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 2GB Antec P182 Mid-Tower Chassis Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SSD ASUS Black 12X Blu-ray Burner SATA BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS 2 x Gigabit Ethernet (Intel 82574L and Intel 82579V) Thanks in advance and please let me know if there's any more info I can provide! I'm very happy to retry anything above and provide those results as well. [link] [comments] |
Pixelated Screen when Running 144hz Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:46 AM PST I have had my monitor (Acer kg251q) for about 3 weeks now and I've been loving it. I play quite a bit of Fortnite and I usually play stretched resolution... If I don't stretch my desktop resolution, alt + tab takes much longer than it should to return to and from the application, so I stretch my desktop res. However, if I stretch my desktop resolution and switch to 144hz my screen becomes pixelated and it is quite annoying, I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue or if anyone knows how to fix it? Can a virus Cause Packet Loss? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:41 AM PST So, I've been getting lots of packet loss in every game, and on other media sites. It happen to me before, and I knew it was the problem with my router. But now I know it's not, and before taking the next step to try and contact my Internet suppliers, I would like to give that question a shot. P.S: Yes, I know what packet Loss is, you do not have to explain to me this. Have a nice day :) [link] [comments] |
Help! Hard drive space in my C drive keeps rapidly disappearing! Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:56 PM PST I've been uninstalling 170 gb worth of games, but my C drive space decreasing like 500 mb/min. PC not functional today, after being completely fine the past week Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:38 AM PST Today my PC is not working - I have used it extensively the past week or so, so it is a very recent problem. The problem is this - the PC boots, the lights on my motherboard come on, and everything goes as it usually should, but my monitor does not pick up a signal. I have tested the monitor and the HDMI cable I am using and have confirmed they are working as they should. Another detail - usually when my PC boots, the keyboard and mouse I have connected light up, but now they are not. Does anybody have any ideas what could be going wrong, or a process for diagnosing the problem? [link] [comments] |
Software needed - Xerox Workcentre 7855 - scanning Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:37 AM PST Hi all We have a Xerox Workcentre 7855. Print drivers are all installed, and I've installed TWAIN scanner drivers. The printer does not have Scan To available (scan to email/computer/whatever). It will not do Scan Workflow. I just want a piece of software on my computer, like every other printer, to scan a document. I've installed VueScan, but it can't see the printer for whatever reason. How do I scan a bloody document? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Where to find previous versions of Snappy driver? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:35 AM PST So I have to go reinstall an OS on a family members old laptop tomorrow and they have terrible internet/mobile phone reception. So I'd rather download all drivers now but the only problem is I got no idea what model it is. I would download the current version of snappy driver offline but my biggest USB is 16GB. I did have the idea that I could use an older version which would be smaller as the laptop is quite old. Is there a way to can download previous versions of snappy driver? [link] [comments] |

PC Build - Custom Fan Curve causing Unstable FPS. Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:25 AM PST Built a PC two days ago and I noticed the GPU temps under load were hitting 80c. Considering I live in a hot climate and the PC is currently dust free, I can't imagine how much hotter its gonna get with warmer weather / dust build up. So I decided to use a custom fan curve. I'm setting the fan curve to only increase the rpm after hitting around 70c (800rpm), but even after the GPU goes back down to idle temps, the fans are still spinning at 800rpm. I used both Radeon wattman and MSI afterburner (separately, not at the same time) and they both cause this issue. Specs (Ryzen R5 2600 + RX 570) https://pcpartpicker.com/user/boxrtim/saved/TN6w6h Screenshot of monitor Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Many requests from abusive ips Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:21 AM PST Today I checked my router log files and found many requests from malicious ips. I checked them on abusiveipdb.com and many of them have a high confidene of abuse rating, e.g. https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/104.131.141.157 The logs look like that This doesn't seem normal. Do you also have requests like that? Is there anything I can do about it? A little while ago I had the same issue and called my ISP to get a new IP. Unfortunately I didn't really checked afterwards. Funai HD-B2785 HDD/DVD Recorder (250gb) Failure Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:17 AM PST Hi all, I'm looking for advice regarding the above problem, I have had my Funai HD-B2785 HDD/DVD recorder for 13 years & the hard drive has finally given up the ghost. (ironic as it has lasted me 13 years right, spooky!) When I go to edit I get an error message saying "HD Error" then it freezes, I thought that I had found a workaround that would reformat the hard disc but alas it did not work, so my question to you all is: Would I be able to replace the hard drive bearing in mind it is well out of warranty, (if it works great & if not i'm sure I have other options) & secondly if replacing the hard drive is possible could I install one with a larger capacity? Any help is greatly appreciated as i'm stuck with this being out of commission. [link] [comments] |

How can I update the location on an Outlook meeting without notifying those who declined? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:07 AM PST I sent a meeting invitation to c. 1000 people in my company, but only 100 are coming to the event. The event's location has now changed. Can I update the meeting invitation in a way that will notify those who accepted without notifying those who declined? I'm aware that I can export the tracking responses to excel and manually email everyone who has accepted, but I'm keen to update the actual meeting invitation if possible, so that the location is correct when people consult their diaries. The rooms are not far apart so in the worst case I'll email everyone and post a notice on the door of the old room with directions to the new room! I'm on Outlook 2017, on Windows 10, in a corporate environment (I'm not sure what version of Exchange we use) [link] [comments] |

Clean Win10 install comes with network drivers? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:02 AM PST I'm having issues with my wifi signal strength. Where I used to get full signal before, I only get one bar indicating signal strength now. I have tried to reinstall drivers with no luck so I visited my retailer to get it fixed as I now believe it is a hardware issue. He told me to do a clean install of Win10 to check if that solves the problem, so I did. I reinstalled Win10 from scratch and deleted all partions on the machine. I tried it with the Media Creation Tool and also with a ISO-file made with Rufus (both on USB). But both yield the same result. I get a clean machine, but with wifi working from the beginning! I have done plenty of clean installs over the years and none of them has come with network drivers already installed. Am I doing something wrong or has Win10 added some sort of network driver included in the install? I just feel that I would have more of a chance fixing any software issues if I could reinstall all the drivers on a completely clean system. [link] [comments] |
