How do I prevent my computer from shutting down? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 10:27 AM PST I run shutdown -s -t 7000, but by an unforeseen I do not longer need to turn off automatically. In fact I want it to remain on. How i do that? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:18 PM PST On 2019/03/01, I came back to my desktop after a week away (W10 Pro x64 v1809). After logging in, I was greeted with an always-on-top ad for Logitech Capture https://puu.sh/CrlyK/cd7bc406a9.png . This ad appears to be spawned by Logitech Download Assistant, [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:03 PM PST Windows 10 Pro 1809. When I try to install an app, I click on the "get" button, but nothing happens, literally nothing. No spinning wheel, no progress bars, the button just doesn't do anything. I've tried the store troubleshooter, wsreset, made sure windows is up to date, singed out of the store, reboot the PC. Made sure I'm not exceeding the 10 device limit, and.now I'm at a loss. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Why doesn't Windows have native OpenVPN support? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 03:07 PM PST Considering OpenVPN is ubiquitous already, and its free and open, I dont see a reason why they wouldn't have the support for it, at least as a client. Weirdly enough, macOS and iOS also lack this feature, indicating there seem to be an issue with implementing OpenVPN natively. Is it licensing? [link] [comments]
Smoother animations for high DPI devices Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:18 AM PST My SB2 has been plagued with horribly choppy windows animations particularly when switching desktops. While experimenting to solve this I decided to manually edit the gestures and reconfigure the 4 finger swipes to the keyboard shortcut ( Windows key + shift + right arrow/left arrow) and this has made the experience noticeably less choppy. Gestures are also recognised much faster. I think the default gesture navigation puts extra strain on the animations as they have to respond to how far you swipe, thus replacing this with the keyboard shortcut gives for a smoother experience. It's not great mind you, but its a bit more bearable. Happy new year! [link] [comments]
Windows 10 tablet keyboard doesn't appear on login screen Posted: 03 Jan 2019 04:46 PM PST I have a computer hooked up to a touch screen monitor. I have enabled the tablet keyboard and I can see it in the taskbar when I launch windows. However, it does not give me the option of using it at the login screen and it does not automatically pop up when going to a text field in an application. The problem is that because there is no icon to open the tablet keyboard on the login screen, and the tablet keyboard does not appear when the user touches the field to enter password, users can not log in without using a regular keyboard. I would like to keep a regular keyboard attached also in the back, but users should be able to login using the tablet keyboard. I really need it to always be available for login especially. Is there some registry setting I can use to force the tablet keyboard icon to be there always? I've seen this thread The registry key is already valid. TabTip.exe will open the keyboard. But that's only after a user has logged in. The separate larger OSK also works when I launch it, but also only after login, and I don't like that, I just want to use tabtip. We do have group policies enabled, I'm not sure if this could be suppressing it or not, if so, what do I need to enable? Thanks [link] [comments]
Windows 10 App Move: Linux Subsystem Posted: 03 Jan 2019 11:40 AM PST Set my "New apps will save to" to the correct data drive. (Settings > System > Storage > Change where new content is saved) Of course this was AFTER installing several gigs under both the Kali and Ubuntu apps. When attempting to move these (Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Move) the drive option appears, but this error immediately follows:
That's a pretty generic error and little help. Would really prefer not to uninstall/reinstall as I've already got sunk time and downloads. Also, as I'm not familiar with app development/configuration, I'm really not certain if it's even possible to install these on a separate volume. Can someone help before I chew up my remaining space on the Windows drive? Perhaps guide me somewhere online which may be of use? Thanks! ----- Edit: Do NOT move the app from PowerShell - this kills the app. It completed the file move, but would not start. Repaired/Reset the app without success and tried to move it back to the original volume without success. When attempting to re-install with the new app install location set, it was still installed on the original volume. So, it seems components of the Linux Subsystem will always run from the system root. If you have additional information, please share. [link] [comments]

windows server 2016 USB devices won't reconnect at startup Posted: 03 Jan 2019 02:56 PM PST I have a windows server 2016 machine with a USB stick that I would like connected at startup... unfortunately, it seems the device does not power up when the computer does... I have to manually remove the USB stick and reconnect it to get it to power up... I have looked through BIOS and device settings and made sure to disable any USB power saving settings I could find, but it still does it... does anyone know a solution to this? [link] [comments]
Public WiFi: What security measures can I protect my laptop with? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 01:16 PM PST I want to protect my banking data while connected to public WiFi. The WiFi in queston is a public access point that has no passcode because it is located in a coffee shop. I believe the WiFi is provided by Google, or managed rather, I don't think they are the ISP. There is a captive login portal that requests a login, however this page is ONLY HTTP and I cannot run the login through HTTPS even when I attempt to do this manually. I also cannot use my VPN kill switch because of this login portal. I can usually run the VPN just fine when connected through the aforementioned process. My questions/inquiries are... 1. What extra measures can I take to ensure the security of my Windows 10 installation running on this network? I want to prevent myself from anyone attempting to intercept my data and manipulate my computer.

Newest Window Update and Two Aux (speakers) Compatibility Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:26 PM PST Before I updated to the newest version audio would play out of my speakers and my headphones; I would turn off my speakers when putting on my headphones and vice vera. With the latest window update it appears I now have to completely unplug my headphones from the front port in order to have any audio out of my speakers (if I dont do this and I just try to turn my speakers up they put out a headache inducing high pitched buzz) I'm not looking for any help with the matter as it seems to be a feature or something but I will be rolling back my update because I don't wanna put any major strains on my front aux port constantly unplugging and replugging my headphones in over and over. Apologizes. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Jan 2019 03:06 PM PST So it's sort of an odd bug, but my computer doesn't wake after it has gone to sleep. It goes to sleep and never comes back on. I have to power down the power supply then turn on the computer. (Sidenote: I have a custom rig) I've changed the power settings to never sleep (which isn't a big deal because it's a desktop). But I was wondering is why it won't wake from sleeping. Computer specs: ASUS motherboard AMD CPU NVIDIA 560ti 120g Samsung SSD (windows 10os) 320g western digital hard drive(all my documents and music) 1tb western digital drive(games) [link] [comments]

How does Windows Family tracking work exactly? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 08:56 AM PST So my parents have my youngest brother in their Microsoft family, and they can see what programs he is using for how long. Me and my brother share a PC and when I was on my account, my app usage still showed up as his(eg. I played Destiny 2 for 2 hours, and it showed that he had played for 2 hours, even though he didn't touch the computer that day). My question is that does windows family tracking all users on a PC? Does my brother need to sign out of his account so that it doesn't track other users? Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2019 11:57 AM PST Looking for a free tool to convert images to .ico files. Every site I checked asks me to crop images down to a 256x256 square, I'm looking for a tool which will fill out the square with transparent and then resize it down (so it doesn't damage image resolution). I typically used iconverticons.com but the site seems to be down and with all results I found there's the issue mentioned above. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Batch file shortcut elevation bug? Or CMD bug? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 08:57 AM PST I think I've just found a bug, but I'm not sure if the culprit is the shell, or the CMD program. A shortcut file will fail to be executed with elevatation (i.e. run as administrator) if the shortcut points to a batch file which has a parameter that is double-quoted. Here's the steps to reproduce.

[help] Issues with newish computer with 1809 Posted: 03 Jan 2019 08:36 AM PST Hi, I built a almost completely new computer for christmas this year (replaced CPU, GPU, RAM, Motherboard, and PSU) and have been having freezing issues ever since I updated to 1809 to try out RTX on Battlefield V. The computer will mostly work when I for example stay in one tab but once i do a couple things very quickly or go into a game it will randomly freeze for about 5 seconds, and sometimes just full on freeze and never comeback and I have to hit the reset button to fix. I have tried reinstalling 1809 fresh and the issue still remains. System: PCPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/TheHeroBrine/saved/#view=YXTgwP CPU: Ryzen 2700X GPU: RTX 2080 Motherboard: MSI Gaming Plus RAM: Corsair Vengence 8x2 16GB [link] [comments]
Program to limit user screen time on windows 10 Posted: 03 Jan 2019 05:42 AM PST Hello! I'm looking for program that can be used to create screen time restrictions for account on the computer. So far i have tried setting log on times via cmd promp which did nothing. I gave up and set up microsoft family controls which worked for 1,5 days until going berserk. Somehow they are now imposing screen time limitations that were never been set up in the first place and trying to reset them does nothing. I had set up them so that the pc opens at 7:00 and closes at 23:00 with no timelimit within those hours. Well system has decided it's own limits somehow and locked the whole system at 15:00 and it wont unlock until next day. "Shit's broken" So basically i'm done with that Microsofts broken software whit it's broken controls and server connections. I know that there are some programs that can be used to put up local restrictions as i was tinkering with some around 2010, but i can't recall any names and google is failing me at this point. Thank you for the help. [link] [comments]
Can I still upgrade to windows 10 for free in 2019? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 10:26 AM PST So I'm a bit late to the Windows 10 party, but I just haven't felt any reason to upgrade from Windows 7 until now. After doing some research though, I'm a little confused as to if I can still upgrade to win 10 for free. Most of the posts and websites I've found all seem to point to 2018 being the last year I could upgrade, but I also couldn't find any post from 2019. Has anyone upgraded in the past 3 days or can anyone confirm it still works? I have a valid license for windows 7 that came with my laptop, and still have the sticker underneath completely visible. Thanks to anyone who can help! To the mods; I think I flaired this post correctly and followed all the rules, but if there's any problem please let me know and I'll change it. [link] [comments]
Is there any way to calculate what color f.lux is displaying on my screen? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 10:08 AM PST So I'm using f.lux on my computer. Therefore, it tints everything just a little yellow. Well, I really like the look of the Twitter dark theme when I use f.lux. However, sampling the color show me the actual color value of the pixel before the f.lux filter is applied. Is there any way I can get/calculate the color with the f.lux tint applied? [link] [comments] |
