Samsung's One UI is now rolling out to the Galaxy S9/S9+ on Verizon Posted: 30 Jan 2019 10:21 AM PST The update just downloaded for me. EDIT/UPDATE: proof https://imgur.com/YzLzmIF Update 2: Having played around with it all day, I love this update. Seems to be a bit of jank/lag in some places, but a reboot helped a bit and I'm sure they'll fix that with the next patch. Also, in classic Sammy style, be prepared to dig around in settings to enable some of the new features. Oh, and be prepared to uninstall some carrier bloat. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Jan 2019 06:07 PM PST Let me start of by saying, One UI on the galaxy note 9 is extremely polished and Samsung totally killed it in terms of features. My disappointment is only caused by the fact that Android Pie is less intuitive and less power user friendly than Oreo and this is evident as -
Samsung has done everything in the past to make sure that their phones are not crippled by the current android version and have included features to truly make their phones the most feature packed. I just hope Samsung continues developing one UI on a path that brings back the intuitive multiwindow experience of Oreo. [link] [comments]
Using the dual-screen ZTE Axon M in 2019 Posted: 30 Jan 2019 07:22 AM PST When I ordered my ZTE Axon M from eBay, (~$150) I was worried to find that almost nobody talked about this device after the initial hype. With foldable screens on the way, how did this phone lose relevance? I figured I'd let you all know. I decided to switch out my Pixel 2 XL and, believe it or not, I'm happy I did. I have the US 64gb version. It still runs Nougat 7.1.2 but, outside of the Emojis, I barely notice the difference. Oreo is still promised, as the last update came through September 2018. With 2 screens, battery life may be a concern. Fortunately, I'm happy to report that the battery lasts almost all day with normal use, and quick charge works as advertised so battery never becomes an issue. I find myself using the big screen when I'm lounging, multi tasking when needed, and the small screen when dealing with the few issues that do exist, like running Snapchat in any mode outside of closed screen. There's a use for every mode. The middle bezel isn't ideal, but I don't find myself noticing it unless the subject of the video or picture is in the middle of the screen. To me, it's worth it for the screen real estate. Obviously, the camera is a bit of a downgrade from the pixel, but it's tolerable in well-lit areas. The camera isn't too important to me, this is more of a media-consumption powerhouse. Lastly, insanely surprising to me, is that this phone actually can play fortnite. It plays at low settings and you might want to clear your RAM before playing, but this is even more relevant now that fortnite supports controllers on mobile. You can mount this phone and play anywhere, or open the big screen if you can work around the bezel, which I can. Hopefully companies can expand on this concept and minimize that bezel in the middle, it must be way better than a plastic foldable screen. TL;DR: Bought the foldable ZTE Axon M for cheap in 2019, and I love it. Recommended for power users who don't need a great camera. [link] [comments]

For those buying a Moto Z3, beware of the fragile screen! Posted: 30 Jan 2019 07:49 PM PST I purchased the Moto z3 yesterday for its low price price point and because it has many design choices I like. Overall I like it much more than my previous phone (iPhone 7) except for that I already cracked my screen! I decided not to buy accessories at the Verizon store because I could get the same stuff for 1/5th the price on Amazon and figured I could go 2 days without protection. I was wrong. Because of the all glass design the phone very easily slid out of my pocket onto the hard to floor at school. It left a crack that stretches across the entire screen horizontally. I would recommend this phone, but I would also recommend anyone who gets has at least a non-slippery case. [link] [comments]
What Android phone do you feel was way ahead of its time? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 10:23 PM PST Personally, I really feel like Sharp was way, way ahead of the game with the Sharp Aquos Crystal from August 2014. A mid-range, consumer phone that was bezeless (save for the needed chunk for all the stuff in the bottom)? I never had the phone, but man, it is still absolutely gorgeous to me. I prefer the look of it over a lot of modern phones - especially the stuff like the Pixel 3 XL's notch and chin. I'd absolutely love to buy a refreshed version of that phone with some high-end specs in it and a proper OLED display. What about you guys? [link] [comments]
What do you think consumers will push next? Posted: 30 Jan 2019 06:40 AM PST First it was to have bigger phones in general since we felt current phones were just way too small for us. Then it was to reduce the bezels on the phone (not going bezel-less yet!) since we wanted more screen and less "phone" so we can view content better, have more room for apps, etc.. THEN we get into removing the bezels completely and we already see various ways of trying to achieve this via the notch and in more recent endeavours the hole punch and slider. I'm curious as to what you all think the next consumer push would be on? I am seeing a trend on wanting an increased amount of mAh for battery but that's about it. It could be possible that we have reached the peak of the smartphone and the only thing we can do now is refine it to be faster and faster. Edit: I realized I may have gotten the terminology wrong here. It's not really a consumer push but more of an industry push. Thanks to those that have corrected me on this! :) [link] [comments]
