IMPORTANT: Found something interesting about microphone usage for third-party apps (OnePlus 6 and 6t).

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 10:46 AM PST

    Hello Reddit.

Today I found a confirmation that has bothered me since Day 1 using this phone - it's the microphone...to be exact - the top one ("Noise Cancelling")

I found out that in certain apps it uses the top mic, which is the noise cancelling one and tho the microphone quality on those apps is bad, like really bad. Shouldn't be that the top microphone is used for only calls? Why does it interfere with the bottom microphone? Shouldn't the bottom one be the main one?

I have proof of this and you can test this out - open up Whatsapp, Snapchat or Facebook. Place your finger on top of the top microphone and record some sound - see for yourself! And now test it on Instagram or default Camera app - you will see what I mean.

I want few things from this -

    1) Please, allow us to choose what microphone to use and what not.

    2) I want this to be forwarded to OnePlus ASAP, this needs to be fixed. I am not the only one with this problem - you can test it out yourself.

    3) If #1 is not possible, please, default the bottom microphone for anything else. Let the top microphone only be for voice calls, if that was the intention to use it for...

Thank you. Hope this gets attention - this needs to be fixed!

UPDATE: Posted this issue in OnePlus forums - hope this gets attention

    OxygenOS vs HydrogenOS?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 03:38 AM PST

    What's the difference?

OnePlus5 has OxygenOS which is on 8.1 android.

Now they are beta-testing android 9 with HydrogenOS.

Will they convert HydrogenOS to OxygenOS after the beta testing phase is complete? Or will they make a separate OxygenOS based on 9.0?

    How does it all work?

Anyone's 6t inscreen fingerprint scanner start working way better after the last update, then start working like crap again? I literally haven't done anything to my phone at all lately...

6t battery draining unreasonably fast, how do I identify the problem app?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 10:50 AM PST

I just bought my 6t and love the phone. However, the battery is draining absurdly fast. I'm getting a 20% overnight drain with NFC/GPS/Bluetooth off. I realize it's got to be an app in the background, but how do I identify which is the culprit? Also, I turned off adaptive battery. Is this the correct thing to do?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Will OnePlus and/Verizon release a fix for not being able to receive texts?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 11:53 AM PST

I can't get Verizon support to make the necessary changes so I can get texts. I wonder if anyone knows if a fix will be available for this?

Bugs/changes to the OP6T that need to be made ASAP

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 06:35 PM PST

Well, I have had the OP6T for almost a month now. Certainly keeping it. However, there are a few issues that I would classify as 'annoyances' that I would really like fixed. The issues are as follows:

    1. Entire screen lights up sometimes when using the fingerprint reader. It blows my mind this has still not been fixed after 2 updates in the first month.
    2. Toggle for having the face unlock open the phone or just unlock it and have the user swipe to open. I often like to actually read the notifications. Frustrating that it automatically opens phone and i have to pull down notifications bar.
    3. Customize the double tap button on the side. I am using the gcam camera app and would like to be able to open that app quickly.

Wondering if anyone else has these issues as well or if I am just being overly particular. Anyone else have other issues that are minor but bugging them?

Is there a fix for the wake-up on the OP6T??

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 09:53 AM PST

I've made a post a few weeks ago in regards to my OP6T 256GB.

Problem was that sometimes, when I double tap to wake, it doesn't wake the phone and the power button doesn't wake it up either. After spamming the double tap and power button, that's when it usually decides to wake up.

Not sure what the problem is but it seems like other people have had the same issues.

Just wanted to know if anyone has also had the same experience, if so, was there a fix to it? An update? Please explain what you did to fix it.

    Thanks!!

    Another fingerprint scanner fix (possibly)

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 12:43 PM PST

The fingerprint scanner has been hit or miss for me. I've seen posts about registering the fingerprint twice and also in the dark. While I agree registering each print twice improves the accuracy I didn't notice a difference registering them in the dark vs a lit room (maybe even worse accuracy in the dark).

So I saw a post the other day about using light pressure when registering fingerprints, but sometimes I don't always use light pressure. Instinctively sometimes I just press harder. So it got me thinking a bit and I tried registering both fingerprints again. Once with hard pressure and a second time with light pressure. As of right now the accuracy seems quick and precise. I just did this so only time will tell, but maybe it's something others can try as well. Let me know if anyone tries this method and sees an improvement!

Quick contact search in oxygenOS ?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 07:52 PM PST

I have moved from iOS to op6T. While I love most of what OxygenOS has to offer, I have not yet found a way to quickly search a contact (and call/message them).

The default way to do this is to click on the phone icon > go to contacts > click search.

This requires multiple taps and one also needs to reach out for the top of the screen, which is inconvenient.

Wouldn't it be awesome if OnePlus launcher could search contacts too?

    Wifi is not working

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 03:44 PM PST

My Oneplus 6 doesn't seem get any signal from my wifi. It connects and says there is a connection but it does work. It's working on every other device in my house but not my phone. I decided to factory reset my phone in hopes of that it would fix it but now it can't restore my backup because it can't get a connection. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

[AMA] Applied the 3D tempered glass for OP6T

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 08:42 PM PST

So I received the 3D tempered glass yesterday and applied it.

    Here are my thoughts:

    • It ships pretty quickly (at least in India) and comes in a nice box for safety.
    • The tempered glass is really nice to touch and feels solid and smooth.
    • All tools provided are really nice quality. Although, I was expecting an alcohol swab as well which wasn't included in the box.
    • Applying the screen protector is.. HARD. Only proceed if you're really experienced with applying one. I've applied over 20 protectors by now (I know it's not a lot, but hey!) and they were nothing compared to this one.
    • Before applying the TGP, make sure you wash your hands, switch on as many lights as possible, switch off the fan/reduce the AC blow as you don't wanna mess up with lint on your phone.
    • The amount of bubbles that come on the screen are just crazy. Thankfully they'll provided us with a squeegee which helps nicking the bubbles down. Keep in mind, it is a crazy task. I took approx 20 mins to remove all the bubbles. Hell! they were difficult to squeeze out.
    • Pro tip: Clean your TPU case thoroughly before applying the TGP otherwise the amount of dust which comes along is crazy! Trust me, I regret not cleaning it. Caused me to nick a small part of my glass which looks ugly now, but I think I can live with that.
    • I'd say the TGP is not the 'perfect' fit when you're trying to install it with the TPU case on. Otherwise, it looks and feels good with the case and a perfect fit when everything is done.
    • It does have thick borders. Nothing that'll make you go crazy. It'll cover a tiny bit of screen from all sides. So, in Chrome, I can't see the scrollbar after applying the TGP. At the bottom of the screen, it's a bit more curved which can lead to approx 0.1mm of text being cut off. Nothing major.

If you guys have any other questions, fire away!

Less than 2 hours screen-on time on OnePlus 3T - how can I improve it?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 01:18 PM PST

My OnePlus 3T is now exactly 2 years old, but the battery life has degraded to a frustrating level. My day-to-day use is mainly Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Chrome, Reddit Sync and Twitter.

At about 40% brightness I'm getting less than 2 hours of screen-on time, which means I often have to charge my phone during the day. The battery life was considerably better when I first got the phone, and I see many people on this sub saying they get between 3.5 and 5 hours.

Are there any obvious software tweaks I can perform to improve battery life?

    Thanks in advance

How to turn on auto-update for stock apps like Oneplus Camera?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 06:40 PM PST

Hey guys I have a OP5T that is rooted running CnP Pie and I use both Arnova's Gcam (for nightmode) and the stock oneplus camera. There are regular updates for the Oneplus camera but I have to manually download the APK and then install it. Is there anyway to turn on an auto update for the app? Thank you!

6T T-Mobile varient supports CAT 18 LTE while Global version supports CAT 16

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 02:39 PM PST

We all already know that the T-Mobile version only has one sim slot and has a slightly customized OS due to T-Mobile, but this is my first time finding out that the T-Mobile version supports CAT 18, while other varients of the 6T do not. Link

Navigational gestures and texting dont go along anymore :(

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 08:23 AM PST

Hi, so ive had my op6 since this august and im totally in love with it. Quickly after getting it ive switched from having the navigation bar on the bottom, to the swiping gestures, as they free up the screen realestate. Taller screen, much apps, me likey. Also, another reason i didnt like the buttons, was how often id press the home button while texting and aiming for the space bar.

Everything was fine untill the november update, when i noticed the gestures were tweaked a little bit. The implementation of this new feature of you beeing able to swipe up and to the right to access the previous app made some sacrifices, as now it seems the swipe doesnt take as much to be registered. Now apparently, the phone thinks im swiping up all the time while hitting the spacebar, which doesnt just make me exit my conversation, but it also happens a bit delayed, making every consequent hit on the keyboard i did, now hit my home screen. This makes me do all kind of weird shit, from opening my browser and some random bookmark there, taking an ugly double chin snap, to randomly dialing my dad from my speed dial. The last one is probably a good thing since im in college and moved away, poooossible arent calling my parents often enough, but who does the oxygen os think he is for pointing that out.

I tried to search up if anyone complained on the internet about this before, but so far i havent found anything. Now im turning to reddit. Fellow ''im probably just shitty at texting'' peeps, rise up if you exist. Anyone had the same first world problem? Any potential solutions? Cheers

Problem with my OnePlus Bullets wireless

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 01:25 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I bought the Bullets wireless a few weeks ago and for the most part they're great, but sometimes there's a lot of crackle no matter what I do. It mostly happens when I change apps or pause music and it's really annoying. Is this a known problem, and is there any way to fix it?

Kind regards, a (mostly) happy oneplus 3 user

    Network switching issues?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 09:28 AM PST

Has anyone noticed issues when switching from WiFi + Mobile to just Mobile network on your 6T? Many times, I have to either toggle all connections or restart the phone to have access to Mobile network after leaving WiFi.

My wife and I both notice the issue and are on T-Mobile.

Does the OnePlus 5 show any animation when it shuts down due to an empty battery?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 04:59 PM PST

I just walked home in the rain and my phone shut off around what seemed to be 10% of its battery.

I can't say for sure though because of the rain droplets on my screen and it seemed to throttle a few minutes before so maybe it went into energy saving mode when there were only 5% left.

So right now I wonder if it possibly shut down due to water damage or if the battery just went empty.

Is there any sort of animation when it shuts down due to an empty battery?

    Android P beta opt out

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 04:52 PM PST

I'm using an OnePlus 6 and this summer I downloaded and installed the android p beta. Android p has been officially released by now and my phone has some minor bugs, related to the beta I guess.

How can I opt out of the beta program and just use the "usual" android p? If possible without losing my data. Am I just too dumb to find the option?
