Question for One UI beta testers

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 01:06 AM PST

I'd like to know if samsung downgraded the quick toggles like Google did in Pie, for example removing the available wifi networks list when tapping on the WiFi label.

If so, can you PLEASE report it in the feedback app, asking to restore the previous functionality? Removing it is nonsense and has no reason, it actually hurts usability A LOT! Please, try to change their minds!

[Help] Phone blocked for no reason .. Help?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 07:02 AM PST

    Hello,

Chap at work has bought a Galaxy Note 8 directly from Samsung, and then has used a 'sim only' deal via the Three network here in UK. He has found that on 22nd November it all of a sudden is blocked.

He hasn't block it himself, he hasn't reported it stolen, its paid for via credit to Samsung and hasn't missed any payments or anything.

He has contacted 'three' to see what the issue is, and they can confirm they DID NOT block it, and suggested he contacts Samsung. They were unable to say who put the block on the phone.

He spoke to Samsung repair store in Reading, UK who said they couldn't assist because they didn't know who had put the block marker on.

He has travelled to main land Europe for a couple of days, and whilst France and Luxembourg the phone has worked fine. (to confirm it is literally the phone which his blocked as through it is lost/stolen rather than some kind of PUK issue).

Does anyone have any idea who to contact about this? He obviously has all of the sales receipts from Samsung about the device, and IMEI, so can prove provenance of the phone.

Samsung is about to create mind-blowing concepts on smartphones which no one could ever expect...can you feel a fabric on smartphone screen? Samsung's upcoming idea can make it possible..

I sure hope the next samsung flagship doesn't have a hole for the camera in the screen

    Posted: 27 Nov 2018 11:10 AM PST

It interrupts the display, I would rather have the top curve stay and the bottom chin removed, because this isn't looking appealing from what leaks say on the internet. How does everyone else feel about this?

Black magic with Type-C cable charging & Samsung phones.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 05:48 AM PST

    Good day everyone!

Wanted to share and maybe get some advice regarding my situation.

So, I own a Samsung S8 as well as family member of mine owns Samsung S9+.

Story: I'm using Type-C cables since 2015 (OnePlus 2) on the phones. Also I do travel a lot with my cables trough out the days, and therefore, cables end up quite often in screwed up places and tangle a lot. With that in mind, I was totally okay buying cheap 3rd party cables and replace them every two-three months, because the charging speed went slower drastically over that time.

Initial Analysis: First thing I observed was that flat cables tend to get worse quicker, rather than classic round ones. No idea why, just observed this. Second thing I observed was that this issue is not related to the phones, as with Samsung phone I had similar issue with the cables working worse and worse with time going.

    Disclaimer:

Wireless charging is not affected at all, therefore Software rootcause is under doubt.

Using conductor in near or direct contact with any source of electricity may harm you & device. Do at your own risk.

    Pre-black magic:

1.) My phone doesn't charge normally anymore with any cable (both S8 stock & 3rd party). It takes 8-9h to charge it to 100%.

2.) I took stock charger & cable from S9. Phone charges faster, but not normally. Takes about 5h.

3.) I tested chargers with the stock S9 cable - both results in the same charging speed, around 2.5-3h.

4.) I tested 3rd party cable with the S9 phone and both chargers - charges slightly worse than with a stock cable.

As said in disclaimer, next steps may harm you & device. If you will try to perform next actions by yourself - do that at your own risk. If you don't want to risk, you can take a plastic glass and make a triangle shape out of it. This should provide same result.

5.) I cleaned S8 charging port with a paper clip and removed some dust - no improvement with charging in any of previous scenarios.

6.) I cleaned S8 charging port with a needle. I removed even more dust which probably was very compressed for paper clip to pick-up.

7.) Charging speed with 3rd party went back to normal. Can charge the phone normally again with stock & 3rd party cable. 1.7h to 100%.

    Actual black magic:

    8.) I had a new/unused 3rd party Type-C cable. Tested it with S8 phone didn't charge at all.

9.) Tested same new cable with S9 which resulted in normal charging just like with stock S8 & S9 cable.

    10.) ???

Sum-up: Chargers are functioning properly. Cables are not destroyed yet and should provide same or slightly decreased charging compared to stock ones.

And here comes the mystery. Did someone ever experience this kind of the issue? Do you have any thoughts on what may cause this kind of behavior?

My only thought is that one or some pins in S8 port are dirty/covered in something/rusted and therefore result differs with cables. I've red somewhere, that Type-C cable differ drastically between each other however I really doubt that performance difference between the cables may differ the charging capabilities via connection pins on each and every Type-C cable.

I hope you've got some interest reading this and didn't waste totally waste your time! Wish you a great day :)

Galaxy Tab S3 heating while charging

    Posted: 27 Nov 2018 11:27 PM PST

Hi so I just picked up a tab S3 yesterday and noticed that the tablet was heating up during charging. It is actually not the entire tablet that is heating but rather like 1/4 of the front of the tablet that is next to the power and sound button. Only the front is heating up and the back barely heats up. Is this supposed to be normal?

Galaxy Tab S3 S Pen alternative?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 05:21 AM PST

My dad is going to give his old Tab s3 to me, but the problem is that he threw away the box along with the S-Pen. I want to buy a replacement but it's expensive. Can I just buy a third party stylus with button? Can I use the one that came with a Galaxy Note 10.1? Will the functionalities still be the same?

Samsung has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 01:20 AM PST

I just realized how subpar the battery is for the Note 8.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 04:45 AM PST

I have the Note 8 for a year now and realize that the battery is pretty bad in terms of a "phablet". I should've just waited for the Note 9 with better batteries but here's to hoping the Note 10 keeps going on the trend of bigger batteries.

Which version of 32:9 monitor should I get?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 04:06 AM PST

Can somebody tell me what are the differences between C49HG90D QLED and C49J890DKU?

I can tell that first one is more gamery with Amd sync (or whatever) but I have nvidia 1080ti so that doesn't work in my case.. Both of them are 144Hz whic I should be able to achieve but can they work in like 120 or 90Hz? Bc that seams more reasonable in some games? (I feel that's the biggest difference but I'm quite confused now so..)

I do a lot of developing a video editing also so it's not just for gaming and currently I'm rocking 3x1080p 24" (which are only 20cm longer than this one so that should work just fine once I replace them with this one)

Currently I have around 60-80fps in most of the games but once I drop down to resolution of this one which is 2/3 of my current setup and tweak settings a bit 100-120 seams ok to be reached right?
