2 in 1 owners, how are you protecting the keyboard when in tablet mode? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 10:50 AM PST I recently bought a 2 in 1 and it's a pretty good laptop but it is heavy. I had to get a 15", I can't deal with smaller screens. So my concern is, lets say I'm handing it over to someone, they have to apply considerable pressure on the keys due to the weight. Besides that there are many scenarios in which I can see the keyboard being damaged in some way due to it being the external rear of the machine in tablet mode.
My best solution thus far is to stick half of it into a sleeve (the keyboard side) and zip the sleeve up to the hinges (laptops airflow is on the side) If anyone has a better solution I'd love to hear it.
Also, the sleeve is very thin but it does "separate" the two long ends more so than if it were naked, so it would be function complete I think if I had a locking mechanism on the bottom end of the sleeve to lock in with the top end of the screen. I feel stupid for asking because I've known my whole life that magnets + computers = bad however a nice magnetic lock to make it sturdy would be the last problem. That or Velcro.
I'd take a photo of the laptop as configured but since I exchanged it for a larger one I'm still waiting on the larger sleeve to get here. [link] [comments]

No sound from a Sager NP9150 / Clevo P150EM headphone jack in Win10 Posted: 29 Nov 2018 01:20 PM PST If you have an older laptop that wasn't designed to run windows 10, everyone knows there are concerns about hardware / driver compatibility. This may be in the 'tell me something I didn't already know' category for some. The point of this post is to recommend a USB sound device. Maybe this also falls into the "captain obvious" column. Just wanting to say that after fighting with this older, yet very serviceable laptop to get sound out through the built in ports, I tried a Behringer Xenyx Q502USB, which I picked up for $50. This may not sound like the cheapest of solutions, but when the laptop is really nice, it's worth it. This thing has a SMALL footprint, allows me to use a real, Phantom powered microphone, headphones I like, and offers very fine grained control over the sound coming in, or going out. As someone who podcasts from time to time and helps with event AV for conferences, this feels like the best of all worlds. I can hear and be heard. It even worked over a thin client connection so that I could use my real mic and headphones with Citrix for teleconferencing. SURE the goal is not to have to buy more stuff, it just works really darned well. I picked up a really inexpensive mic arm kit and the quality is very nice! This setup would work well for streaming, too. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2018 12:46 PM PST OK so I've ordered both these laptops because I couldn't decide which one to get but now they are both here I still can't decide... What would people go with: 1 - Dell XPS 9575 15, i7-8705G with AMD Vega, 8GB RAM and 512SSD or 2 - HP Spectre 15, i7-8750H with GTX 1050, 8GB RAM and 512SSD? My thoughts are I prefer the dell keyboard, I can't get used to the slight off centre layout on the HP. I also obviously prefer the slightly smaller size of the Dell. However, the HP has the better processor and looks a bit nicer IMO. I think if they had equal specs I'd probably go for the XPS but I can't decide whether I can justify spending about an extra £100 (including the pen which comes with the HP) for something that, on paper, has a worse processor. I just wondered if anyone could shed any light on either of the two models for example, does the HP real world performance differ too much from the XPS (I'm thinking cooling/throttling etc) - I know I have both in hand but unfortunately the HP has broke so would have to be replaced (not a good start I know and another consideration of mine) so I haven't been able to test it. I'd also like to know which is more reliable generally. It's just a tough choice because the HP is so new there aren't any real reviews or comparisons against the XPS. Thanks for any input. Question about laptop CPU and GPU temps Posted: 29 Nov 2018 12:05 PM PST I was monitoring my laptop's CPU temps while i played an hour or so session of Warframe (max settings). Over that time it stayed at 67-74C at roughly 40% load. there are some more intensive games I'd like to play like Fallout 4 and my concern is overheating on heavier loads. Are there reliable methods i could use to keep the CPU cooler? As for the GPU i haven't looked into it yet but i would imagine it's in the same boat as they share the same heat pipes. Need help! Laptop not turning on Posted: 29 Nov 2018 12:02 PM PST A week ago i bought a new laptop, and today after school I checked it and it had like 30% battery. After that I just closed it, didnt turn it off and now when i wanted to turn it on nothing happened so I plugged it in to charge. Tried turning it on nothing happened, so just assumed it needed a minute but after a while it still didnt turn on. I saw that the laptop charger is cold and the charging light on laptop is not on. I checked with my phone if it would charge off of the laptop it didnt, changed the wall socket - nothing. What should I do? The charger isnt dead(propably) because the light on the charger is on, so I am guessing something is wrong with the laptop. [link] [comments]

Overheating/Throttling issues and fan control. Posted: 29 Nov 2018 10:44 AM PST I have an Aspire 5750G-2634G64Mnbb. i7-2630QM paired with the 540m and 6GB ram. Pretty old. My laptop usually runs hot and silent and I can't control the fan speed. Until now I have realised my cooling fan can actually run faster. Most of the time the fan stays at the same speed but when I shut it down few seconds before turning off the fan speeds up. Is there a way to unlock the fan speed control or is my fan just broken(probably is). On idle it runs 57c. Play any game it runs at 92-99c. Any tips on lowering temps? I've already tried underclocking the GPU. [link] [comments]
Asus GL703GM different variants specification question Posted: 29 Nov 2018 10:38 AM PST Hi. Does anyone know what's the difference between Asus GL703GM-EE063T and GL703GM-EE044T ? Probably something minor but I'd like to know as price is the same and don't know which one to get. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2018 09:16 AM PST So, I'm looking to sell my laptop that I bought around 3 months ago, simply because I think I want to get a 2 in 1, but I'm not positive how much I should expect to get out of it HP ENVY Laptop 13t 256 GB PCle NVMe M.2 SSD Full size island style backlit keyboard (natural silver) Intel Core i7 855OU (1.8 GHz, up to 4 GHz, 8MB cache, 4 cores) NVIDIA GeForce MX150 (2GB) 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM 13.3 inch diagonal FHD IPS BrightView WLED-backlit multitouch-enabled edge to edge glass (1920 x 1080) I bought it brand new straight from HP.com a few months ago, and have only used it for school work since then. It is in perfect condition other than a tiny ding on one of it's corners, and everything works perfectly If you were going to by the same exact one from HP right now, it would cost 1100 dollars. Also, I am wondering what is the best way to sell it to get the most money. Any input would be appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2018 09:07 AM PST Hey Guys, Actually I'm using a MSi GE72 (6700hq, 970M) and want to switch to something new. I tried a MSi GE73 Raider (8750h, 1060) for a few days, the display and performance was a blast - the noise was kinda bad. My actual GE72 is ultra quiet in comparison. The main purpose is a Desktop Replacement for the Living Room - so noise is a concern, portability not. My main games are World of Warcraft, Diablo 3 and Dota. Can you recommend any (silent) 17" Notebook that fits my needs? (Price Point might be around 1.500$/€). Thanks for sharing your insight. [link] [comments]

HP EliteBook doesn't see screen plugged on usb-c docking station Posted: 29 Nov 2018 12:31 AM PST Hello, sorry if it's not the right place to ask, but my HP EliteBook is plugged on an usb c docking station (hp too), but it won't recognize screens or charge, it only lets me use the mouse and keyboard, acting as a simple usb hub instead of a real dock. Could anyone help me use my screens please ? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Nov 2018 03:34 PM PST Hello, this is my first time in this sub and I was hoping I could get a little help. Yesterday, while at my desk I spilled my water bottle, maybe 2-3 ounces of water at the most. Most of it was on the desk but some went under the laptop. I dried up everything immediately. My laptop was closed and shutdown, but the charging cord was still connected and plug into the wall(I got used to leaving my laptop like this because the battery doesn't stay charged longer than 45-60 minutes) when I spilled my water. None of it went inside the laptop it just seeped under which I cleaned pretty quickly. Also my laptop has rubber stops on the bottom so it was lifted off my desk, so it wasn't sitting in the water at all. Fast forward to today, I had forgot all about it because it was a minor amount of water and I go to turn my computer on and nothing happens. I tried the whole take the battery out, hold the power for 30 seconds, charge the charger in etc. Which probably wasn't smart considering the small possibility of water damage. So the few times I tried to turn on my laptop only the battery light would turn on then turn off as soon as I let the power button go. Sorry for the mash of details but I'm trying to share as many details as I can. So now for a few questions. My computer was completely shut down when I spilled this water. But I still had the charger connected. Does this essentially do the same type of damage to my computer as if it was actually turned on while water damage was occurring? I got the computer from my mom about 7 years ago, it was hers for a year prior, and it never held a charge properly and always had to stay plugged. Is it possible the charger just got messed up and the water spilling was just a timely coincidence? Thank you all for taking the time to read. Sorry if this is a little mashed up in places. I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off for the last few hours, lol. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 09:28 PM PST I'm looking for a new laptop. I would mostly use it for browsing and storing articles. I want something moderately quick, small and light with adequate memory to store research articles. Budget would be 700 but I'm flexible (~$1100)if something suited my needs to a tee. I was looking at the Microsoft surface pro and it appealed heavily. Any input or other suggestions? [link] [comments]

Needing a laptop for Software Development & work purposes Posted: 29 Nov 2018 02:45 AM PST Hello, I am looking to get back into programming and just need some advice on the best laptop for the value. I'm mainly planning on using Eclipse and Visual Studio, with little to no gaming (maybe counter strike GO or Path of Exile at most). I'm in England so looking for deals here if anyone has any input. My last resort is just getting a MacBook Pro or air and running Windows on dual boot, but that's a bit much for my wallet currently. I found a surface pro 6 with the keyboard for £799 but I'm not sure how good they are for software development. Again any help would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 10:22 PM PST I have little to no knowledge on laptops. I watched a few videos on YouTube and I really like the Razer blade and Mac book pro. I'm going to be doing internet browsing (would like for it to be fast), video edits, and light gaming (Minecraft). I was wondering if these are good fits or is there something better out there? I'm looking to spend around 1500-1800. [link] [comments]
