| Posted: 31 Oct 2018 06:27 PM PDT Alright so what happened was I got drunk and vomited slightly on my computer, which killed the motherboard. The processor and ram and all that good stuff is okay, but something happened to the graphics card. I don't know if it was my vomit or maybe it shorted out when the motherboard died. I looked up the warranty and it's covered until 2019. The only problem is that they won't replace or repair it if it has obvious damage to it other than regular wear and tear. If the card fails on its own, without any precipitating factors, then it can be fixed via the warranty. If it's clear I ruined it due to my own incompetence (which may or may not have happened) then they won't do anything with it and I'm stuck with a broken card. My question is this - will they be able to detect any water damage done to the graphics card? The thing is clean as a whistle, no real damage to it at all. You couldn't tell by looking at it. My Girlfriend recently began university and just two days ago her 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inch screen completely died, from the AMD Radeon Video Glitch, and now obviously it is too late to get the repairs apple offered until 2016. She spoke to someone in her university help desk who knew a lot about macs and he said she has to buy another mac which is post 2011, and only then she can transfer her data as it in encryped. This confuses me, as I would have thought you would be able to transfer her mac harddrive to someone elses mac (e.g. my fathers / the person helping her) and then could just upload that data to a USB stick and plug it into a cheaper laptop and continue working. Her files were mainly word documents, which I thought were universal due to being able to email them from macbooks to window's PCs. Am I wrong in thinking this? Recently though, the background has gone dark with a small message in the bottom right corner saying "This copy of windows is not genuine". I still don't know how my acquaintance did it, but I want to undo this ASAP to get it back to the original version (I don't care if all my data is destroyed or deleted in the process). In order to listen to my music library, up to 10 devices can be authorized to use my account. When I attempt to play music in my library, it doesn't play and says I have more than 10 devices authorized, and I need to delete devices in order to listen to the music. I only had 5 devices authorized, but I deleted all other devices except my phone. However, even though only one device is authorized, I still get prompted to delete devices and I still am blocked from my music library. I tried restarting my phone and the app, but nothing has helped. I am not the primary owner of the unlimited plan, only a connected account. My phone model is Samsung Galaxy J7. | PC Crashes ~45 Seconds After Boot Posted: 01 Nov 2018 04:55 AM PDT Hi r/techsupport, sorry if this is quite a mess of a post but I need some help with my PC, So it started out as me turning off my PC after a day of use, I shut it down but after it says the shutting down thing the screen went black but my pc still was running, now I know this was stupid of me but i get very very paranoid and worried about viruses and stuff like that, stupid I know but whatever. I boot it up the next morning to see a blue screen that says "Recovert, windows could not load because "amdkmafd.sys" is deleted or something. Press f8 for recovery options or enter to try again". So I click enter and it brings me straight back to Recovery, I click F8 and it comes up with some recovery options (9 to be exact) (Safe mode, Safe mode with CMD, etc.) I tried every single one of them and it brought me straight back to the recovery screen. So I try to make a windows bootable (using MediaCreationTool1803.exe) but it says something went wrong (if you need me to i can run it again to see what the error code is) like halfway through writing windows to the drive.So I try it again, multiple times with 2 usb drives, 2 laptops, same error! Weird I know. So I plug my SSD (boot drive) into my laptop and run checkdisk (chkdsk) on it (the command i used was "chkdsk f: /r) and it came up with no errors, so I plug it back into my PC and the fucking thing works! So after like 2 minutes of loading things up it crashes, great. Now I'm back at the recovery screen, I run checkdisk again, no errors and plug my SSD back in, it works. But now its every ~45 seconds (I dont think its solidly 45 seconds, just around that) it crashes. But it doesn't go into recovery it boots up and starts the cycle of crashing again. So i do the Shift Restart thing so I can get into the Advanced options thing, but instead of showing lots of things (UEFI Settings, Startup Repair, etc.) (like 7 options) it shows 1! Luckily that's the one i want, Its startup options so i can get into safe mode. So now im in safe mode, I run a checkdisk on it (yes i did have to restart.) So now I'm in safe mode, I run sfc /scannow and it get s to 85% and... Crashes. So that's where I am now, very weird issue that i cant get a windows bootable whatever I do. | Laptop burning smell coming from fan Posted: 01 Nov 2018 04:47 AM PDT Hello, yesterday I dissambled my laptop to clean fan because it was very noisy lately, I was careful and I'm pretty sure I didn't damage anything and I did everything right. However, when I turned it on I immediately smelled plastic burning. I shut it down right away and didn't wait to see if it will start up but I'm pretty sure motherboard got fried. Later that I checked smell was definitely coming from somewhere around the fan. Obviously my previous statement that I did everything right is now questionable. This morning (second day of this build) it was so long I even thought it crashed. Took more than a minute to even get to the login screen. What could be the source of this? I have disabled Fast startup because it usually caused nothing but trouble. I can try re-enabling it but I don't think it will reduce my startup time by more than 70% like it was before, and It won't solve the long BIOS startup time. My setup:

| Posted: 01 Nov 2018 04:43 AM PDT We are receiving a PDF which has 4 labels per page and I want to print each of these out onto individual labels from a Zebra printer. Now this is not a problem if all of the labels are the same as I can do a single snapshot of one of the labels in Adobe Reader and print it to fit as many times as I like. The issue occurs when the labels has different numbers so I need each one of them printed out (could be 500 of these things and i'm not about to snapshot each one). My solution for this at the moment is BRISS which works mostly as we can select the positions of the labels on the first odd and even pages and it goes off and does the rest. The issue is that BRISS does not display the original PDF correctly so getting the positions of the crops is a bit of guess work. I'm guessing this has happened because BRISS 0.9 hasn't been updated since 2012 and Adobe have probably messed about with things. So: A) is anyone using BRISS with the same problem B) has anyone found a different piece of software that would achieve the same. Finally moved my pc to get a wireless connection but when i booted it, the display settings somehow changed from 1920 x 1080 which is the appropriate display to 1024 x 768 which is still being recommended by windows. Now i opened steam to play counter strike and i get and the game crashed giving an engine error "Your graphics hardware does not support all features (CSM)needed to run this game..." I thought this was only a problem for cs but all my games (except for terraria but with bad frames) stopped working. I contacted steam support and they replied "... the dialogue means the game cannot find support for Cascading Shadow Mapping (CSM) for your selected video card. If you have multiple video cards in your machine you will need to change the video card CS:GO uses while playing the game. ..." I have a Radeon RX 480 graphics card and it appears in device manager with no error icon on it. In advance display settings it says Display 1 is connected to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. However if my computer is plugged into the router (ethernet or wifi), it won't go any faster than 25Mpbs. It's a Linksys E1000 router running DD-WRT. Any ideas why the speed is much slower? There is no display and cannot get to the bios and the motherboard shows debug codes mostly 4F and 67 I took it apart and noticed some pins on the cpu socket were bent although it was working fine and suffered no damage before the powercut so im unsure how long they had been like that Luckily I have a back up mobo that is exactly the same make and model with no damage to it so I installed it and despite the new motherboard the exact same problem persists I tried ram in single channel all slot, removing COMS battery, uplugging gpu and HDD and nothing changes still boots up fans and lights come on debug 4F or 67 show then it turns off a blue LED flashes on the motherboard and it repeats the process Can anybody identify what the issue could be? All games have frametime spikes (often 40ms+) which results in intense stutter though the intensity varies depending on the game. I have tried many fixes such as reinstalling windows, older driver versions, temperature checks and so on. I have also replaced many different pieces of hardware including the GPU, CPU/motherboard, RAM, SSD, PSU and others but the stutters persist. To avoid making this post too long I have uploaded a text file with more information and some troubleshooting steps onto Google drive. I have generated a .etl log with GPUview (opened with Windows Performance Analyzer) and I was wondering if anyone could have a browse through it to help narrow down the issue? I have looked myself, but struggle to understand it and I cannot see any obvious cause for the stuttering issue. I have uploaded this file to Google Drive along with video examples of Witcher, Far Cry, Metro and Battlefield. Witcher and Metro have an MSI Afterburner log for that run included. Battlefield was recorded many months ago using different components (Ryzen 1700, B350 Strix, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080) but the stutters continue to persist. Posted: 01 Nov 2018 04:12 AM PDT For the last two weeks or so the Facebook app (Android) has begun sending me push notifications for people LIKING my comments and posts. Previously it had only sent me push notifications for comments and 'like' notifications only showed up in the app itself. Looking through the app's notification settings, it appears as though liking and commenting are both combined in the same "activity about you" category, so I can't set 'like' and 'comment' notification preferences separately. Anyone know why this change occurred and how to change it back? I still want to know when people comment on stuff, but the constant push notifications for likes is getting super annoying... Posted: 01 Nov 2018 03:58 AM PDT As title says, I updated FileZilla and now when I go to download a directory such as this: Home It will download to my desktop and finish, but then I only see: Seems random what it wants to download or not, but I right clicked on Home and clicked download, so why is it only downloading SOME folders and files, and not ALL folders and files? I checked the log and it looks like no errors / issues are occuring, it's just selectively picking random folders to not download and then it finishes seemingly with no problems as if it did what I asked it to do. I was making backups and thankfully caught this before deleting the directory. Any suggestions / recommendations? I could download each folder one by one, but this also happens to files, and I can't trust FileZilla anymore to not check each and every file, obviously. Windows 10 Thank you! About a week or so ago, I bought an Asus R9 280x, the pcie slot was powering it up, the card was running but it wouldn't give a display through any port, so I returned it and got another 280X, same thing; I even went to a shop and tried a random VGA card, which didn't give a display either. Now my question is, is my PCIE port dead - or could it be the dust that went into it, cause my house was under renovations and while the marble floor was being polished, the entire house was riddled with a thick layer of dust, and obviously my pc caught a lot of it as well even with covering it. I'm already paying for Creative Cloud, but none of the options available seems to suit my need. | Posted: 01 Nov 2018 03:34 AM PDT Recently I have been experiencing an issue with my PC where the display will cut out and go black, and the audio will become a constant buzz. This then needs a hard reset which temporarily fixes the issue. Over this last couple of months this has happened increasingly more often, with it seeming to only occur if the computer has been running for a while (at first if it had been running for >2weeks, now if it has been running for a day). With my very limited knowledge, I initially thought it might be a gpu driver issue so updated those, or an overheating issue so checked the BIOS after it happened and it said the cpu was running at ~43C. I also noticed that the gpu fans were running while in the BIOS but stopped when booting the computer. The system specs are below from when I built the system ~3years ago.

| Turn on & off a noisy PC hard drive when i want ? Posted: 31 Oct 2018 11:47 PM PDT Hi My PC has two main SSDs + a regular 2 to hard drive for backup. This hard drive is by far the noisiest thing in my case... i don't backup all the time so i don't need it to be powered all the time. I disabled it in the bios but it still turns on (my system doesn't see it). Is there a convenient way to turn on and off this hard drive ? Through bios or hardware or software ? Maybe adding a switch behind the case or on the front panel or something ? I'm using macos Mojave so it's a hackintosh pc Thanks [link] [comments]  |
