"Discover why Microsoft Edge..." on lock screen Posted: 27 Nov 2018 11:13 AM PST How do I kill this stupid message without removing Spotlight entirely? I like the images, but I will kill them if I have to. [link] [comments]
System process using 15-20% of CPU at idle Posted: 27 Nov 2018 04:10 AM PST So I recently installed Windows on my late 2013 MacBook Pro, but I'm having a weird issue... When I open task manager, my 'System' process is using 15-20% of my CPU at idle. I've tried everything, I double checked and updated my drivers, updated Windows, I even reinstalled Windows, but the issue hasn't gone away. I followed some guides from the internet and used Windows Performance Recorder and Analyzer to pinpoint the cause of the issue, and I think it's something called ntoskrnl.exe!KiStartSystemThread but I've got no idea how to fix it now... Can someone help me? [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Nov 2018 07:36 PM PST I plan on getting a refurbished desktop, but it runs on Windows 7. Buying from the Microsoft store, would be kinda over my budget for me. How can I upgrade to Windows 10 for free or cheaper? I know there's the free trial, but I don't want a water mark. I also know there's eBay keys, but they all seem unusable for upgrading to Windows 10 from 7. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Nov 2018 06:54 PM PST Is it possible to zoom on Wordpad using the keyboard? I've googled but have found nothing. The usual (Ctrl +) doesn't work. It seems to require using the mouse to go to View > Zoom In. Also, is it possible to change the default zoom level? Rather than starting at full document view (zoomed out), I'd rather start at the level notepad does, where I can instantly read and work on the text of the document. [link] [comments]
Is there a better alternative for Windows 10s abysmal Ease of Access settings? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 01:58 PM PST I have a client who is very hard of eyesight (macular degeneration) and, as a result, he has a difficult time using the computer unless things are tuned to just the right settings/colors. With Windows 10, the EoA settings are about damn near worthless to begin with and an absolute abomination to work with (it is so broken and buggy that the settings may well not even be there). Does anyone here happen to know of any sort of software that can editing the color/contrast settings in Windows that works with 10? Looking around, I've seen a couple potentials but thought I'd ask to see if there's a "fan favorite" in this area. I'd especially prefer something that doesn't break every time Windows updates like the built-in EoA settings do. And if anyone from Microsoft is reading this: fix your damn EoA. It's an embarrassment. [link] [comments]
Way to see what calls/changes a program is making? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 04:56 PM PST I recently got a capture card, but it has a bright blue LED on it, and you can only disable it through their software after every reboot. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but the program is slow and laggy, and takes lots of time to start. Is there a way to see what the program is doing WHEN I tell it to disable the lighting, then recreating that on its own? [link] [comments]
Any way to make my shortcut start menu tiles wide and put a custom image on them? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 07:11 AM PST Something like this. I know there is a Windows App that lets you do that, but it isn't free. Is there a free windows app or a normal program or anything else that lets me do this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Nov 2018 01:09 PM PST I need a good voice changer that is free. Voicemod is good but it costs some money, clownfish and voxal ( I've heard ) are bitcoin miners and I don't want to take a risk. Are there any good voice changers for windows? [link] [comments]
I need to update, but disabled it. Posted: 27 Nov 2018 01:03 PM PST Short story shorter, I need to update Windows. I disabled all of my automatic update "features" through the Registry files, and don't remember how I did it. I would like to update Windows in such a way that those "features" don't come back. Am I safe to just use the standard updater in the settings menu, or will I have to jump through some hoops to do so without reconfiguring my files? If so, can someone provide advice on how to jump through those hoops and / or how to configure my files to avoid updates. (So that I can set things back the way they're meant to be) [link] [comments]
Where to buy a cheap original Windows? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 10:21 AM PST Hi, I'm a MacBook Pro user and I'm going to install Windows on my machine to use it for Visual Studio. How can I get the lowest price for Windows? I'm familiar with Windows 7 since years and I haven't ever tried Windows 10. Please advise me. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Nov 2018 05:13 AM PST So I was uninstalling some software I don't need anymore and I saw this update as if it was a separate program. Is there a way to maybe hide it? Is there something I don't understand? [link] [comments]
50% chance blue screen every time I boot my computer Posted: 27 Nov 2018 03:11 PM PST Whenever I shutdown or restart my system which runs on windows 10 home, it will say that C:\Windows\system32\windload.exe I get this almost everytime I turn on my computer and occasionally when I restart it after getting the blue screen, windows opens without issues. Posted: 27 Nov 2018 07:37 AM PST For the last 2 months, I've been experiencing issues where my computer will become slow and choppy (especially in games) after I've left it idle or have been using it for a while. I'll either have to reset my PC or ctrl+alt+del then cancel to get it to work well temporarily. I've also been seeing under GPU Engine in the Task Manager - GPU 1 (Link 0) - 3D more frequently. I don't want to have to try reinstalling my OS, so I wanna get some possible solutions so I don't have to. Thanks. [link] [comments]

I change one of my win10 pro product key to edu. How do I revert back to pro when I reinstall windows on same computer? [link] [comments]
PC Won't Shut Down without loss of power Posted: 27 Nov 2018 12:56 PM PST Good day r/windows. I have a problem that I don't know how to fix. My PC won't shut down properly unless I completely cut the power to it. It's been doing it for a week now. Is there a reason for this or a fix? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Nov 2018 11:51 AM PST Visit OnTheHub.com, fill in your country, province/territory/state, school, and see if you qualify for a free license key of Windows 10 Education (same as Enterprise), Office 2016, and Office 2019. You can get any (or all) three of those keys, plus minor discounts on other non-Microsoft software. [link] [comments]

Does the update still delete files? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 05:14 AM PST Hello everyone. I kept postponing my October windows 10 update since I had heard it deleted files but I never found out if the problem was solved, is this the case? Can I now update safely? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Disappearing external USB drive in Win 7 Posted: 27 Nov 2018 10:55 AM PST I recently re- parted an external Free Agent 1Tb drive back to NTFS (was EXT 4) and the drive connects (sound and on taskbar icon option to remove) however drive does not show in Windows Explorer. Any ideas/options? [link] [comments]

Windows game mode disappeared? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 12:14 AM PST For some reason my windows game mode disappeared. When I hit Windows Key + G the option is no longer there and when I go to the setting itself it says my laptop is compatible and that is about it. I used to have game mode on my laptop but not always. I recently did a full reset and game mode was there. now for some reason it isn't anymore. Has anyone else experienced game mode just disappearing? [link] [comments]
Extended display with 2 separate computers? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 10:24 AM PST Hi, sorry if I'm breaking any rules posting this question here. I would be happy to post in a more appropriate subreddit if so. I have a question regarding using my all-in-one pc as an extended display from my work laptop so that I can work from home. I'm not very good with this stuff. My work laptop is a Microsoft Surface Pro running Windows 10 Enterprise. My home PC is an all-in-one HP Pavilion running Windows 10 Home. I bought a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable and connected them, but nothing seems to happen when I do that. I was able to very briefly project my laptop screen to my PC by connecting through a wireless display (using Windows+P --> Connect to wireless display). That didn't really pan out and wasn't what I was trying to accomplish anyways. I have google and looked through multiple websites and forums, but 99% of the results seem to be about connecting to a second monitor rather than a second computer. Does anyone know how to make this work? Am I able to have an extended display with 2 separate computers running Windows 10? Help!! [link] [comments] |
