Need help formattig a stubborn micro SD card

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 03:52 PM PST

After almost a year, my 200 GB sd card randomly started slowing down and stuttering during phone use so I decided to format it. After formatting, it read as corrupted and I haven't been able to successfully format it since. I've tried formatting through different computers but to no avail. Whenever I do try on Android, it immediately stops the process and gives me an error (screenshot below). Any help is much appreciated!

Is there a specific cache location for the tags of music files?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 12:25 PM PST

Hi there. So, I have been having some trouble with MP3 tags that are not being updated properly in any music player I use on my phone, so I was wondering if there was a cache of these tags saved in some central location that is causing the issue.

As an example, I have songs from an artist "X". At some point I got some songs by this artist that were tagged "The X", so I put the files onto my PC and used an MP3 tag editor to change them to "X". These changes are reflected fine on my PC, but when I put these new files on my phone, the music player still states the artist name as "The X". Even when I actually inspect the tags on my phone, they are correctly showing "X" as the artist, but in any music player I have tried, the songs are still classified as "The X".

I have already tried deleting the caches of each music player I have (Google Play Music, Pulsar Music Player, and Musicolet). Unforunately this didn't solve the issue.

It must be a cache issue, as when I edit the tag to be something else it updates fine, but when I change it back to "X", the apps show "The X". I even tried creating a blank audio file on my PC, tagging it as "X", and then when I put it onto my phone it automatically changed it to be "The X".

Other things I have tried: Disconnecting from the internet to make sure it is not reading the tags from an online source. Stripping tags off completely and re-adding them on the PC.

Does anyone have ANY idea what could be causing this? It's driving me crazy. I'm using Android 8.1 by the way.

Black screen on S6 Edge, can't hard reset because Volume- button doesn't work.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:32 AM PST

    Hi.

Today I woke up to my Galaxy S6 Edge having a black screen and the LED flashing every 5 seconds. I did some research and found that the problem is fairly common, and that a solution is to press the Volume down button and the power button.

That sounds great, but my problem is that my volume down button is broken. When I press it it doesn't do anything (it has been like this for months, maybe because some water got inside, I'm not sure, and it doesn't feel right when I press it). That's why I cant hard reset my phone.

Is there any other way? If I plug the phone to my computer, the computer detects that I plugged in something but can't recognise that it is the phone. Maybe I can find a way to restart it from there?

I thought of letting the battery run out and then charging the phone. I know it will take a lot of time, but maybe that's something I can try, I'm not sure.

I hope someone can help me. I don't want to lose all my files.

    Thanks :)

Will RCS fix video sending on Android?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:21 PM PST

I haven't really seen this question anywhere. Was hoping someone with more knowledge on RCS would be able to answer this.

When I receive a video on my s9 it's always horrible quality, to my understanding it's that mms is just not that great at compression. Was wondering if RCS would fix that.

    Memory question

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:02 PM PST

So every time I open my nexus 5 (6.0.1) I hear a click sound in the microphone, I did a full factory reset and it's still there. Just did a reset again and saw of the 1.8 GB something is using 0.89 GB so I went to memory-memory used by apps and scroll down and saw this.

    1.5 mb

and I tap on it I see

    jp kud0314.fx

    then

    5.2 MB

and I tap on it and see

    this

so any idea what it is.

Pixel 1 & 2 devices issues with setup and connecting to Wifi Networks

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:52 AM PST

I manage a fleet of about 80 Pixel 1 & 2 devices and i always seem to have the same issues if I am setting up a phone that does not have a SIM yet. I cannot get the device to connect to our wifi, We have a hidden network that is WPA2PSK and i add this network and its password and Android just sits there and does nothing.. No feedback if it was added or not nothing just like i didn't do a thing. So then I try to join our guest network and tells me to login. It then gives an error that it cant go to the site because it is insecure, but when i use my laptop to do the same there is nothing wrong with the site.

Any ideas why i cant add a wifi network that is hidden or access a web page to log into my guest network? Have others run into this issue.

Pixel 3 Pie customise the Right Nav Bar button

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:26 PM PST

Is there any way to customise this? It's super frustrating that there's only the left and centre button most of the time. And then when it shows it's just for keyboard and auto rotate. Who uses those on a regular basis???

I would instead love to have it pull down notifications, or allow me to start an app, or lock my phone. Even open the menu function! That would be useful!

I have tried the app Custom Nav Bar, and although I love it, it doesn't let me customise the default Right Nav Bar Button. Any suggestions?

    Have root, no xposed available.

Just got a text from a random spoofed number to me and my brother

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:11 PM PST

The text just said "LI". I called it to see if it was someone in my family, since the text went to me and my brother in the same group text. Some guy answered and said he didn't send anything. I'm kinda freaked out cuz it's weird we'd both get a random text.

Could this be spam? Something sinister?

Who purposefully gutted Androids built in call blocker?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:40 AM PST

Built in Android exists a call blocker. This call blocker is fantastic because it prevents the screen from turning on and actually blocks the call without causing you annoyance.

This call blocker doesn't let you block with a prefix.

Tons of call blocking apps exist. And some allow prefixes to be used. This is fantastic. Except every single one of them will turn your screen on when a call is coming in that gets blocked during a ring or a couple rings. This is infuriating. I don't want a call to be blocked to turn my screen on. I don't want my attention grabbed for calls I'm blocking.

Why can't I use prefixes in the built in call blocker in Android? That's insanity. It's the best call blocker! But it has limited function!

    S9+ user.

I can't be the only one that sees this as a problem.

Infinite bootloop on Samsung Galaxy Tab S

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:59 PM PST

Model: SM-T700 Samsung Galaxy Tab S (WiFi)

I've been having this issue with my tablet for several years now and I had pretty much given up on it but recently, I've been wanting to bring it back to life. My problem is that it keeps displaying the Samsung Logo, restarts and repeats. I have tried many things but it still doesn't seem to work.

I tried flashing the stock rom but nothing changes.

I can enter download mode but I can't seem to enter recovery mode at all.

    • Power + Volume Up does nothing
    • Power + Volume Up + Home does nothing
    • Power + Volume Down does nothing
    • Power + Volume Down + Home lets me enter Download mode
    • Power + Volume Up + Volume Down does nothing
    • Power + Home does nothing

I cannot shut down the device, I can only wait until the battery drains.

I'm looking for any ideas out there really. Any ideas to solve my issue?

Since 8.0, Moto G5 won't stop telling me Messenger is displaying over other apps.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:25 AM PST

Apparently, Android is not a fan of me using messenger over native apps. I've dealt with this probably 17 times now and it is STILL popping up. Does anyone know how to make this stop appearing?

    Can't delete an infected app.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:35 AM PST

There's a default app on my android that is not on app list, and is freaking me out all the time with popping ads all the time when wi-fi is on. Every few seconds ads pop up with browser or without and makes impossible to use it. I tried to reset and format the phone many times, but miserably it didn't work. Every time I turn off wi-fi warning comes up that says "mobile server does not respond", and when I close the ads, I noticed mobile server on app name. But unfortunately can't delete it. Any ideas on how can I delete or disable this mobile server?

Looking for a charging stand for my Jabra Elite 65t.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:04 PM PST

Been looking for a reliable charging dock that will work with these headphones, and so far I've run into one big problem: the charging docks on the market are all designed for phones and come with backrests for the phones. The charging case for the Jabras, though, is a tad bit bulkier than most phones in the depth department, which means most of the charging stands available won't be able to support it.

The closest I've been able to find is this charging stand by XUNMEJ, but I'm worried that there's not going to be enough clearance space for the charging case to fit. Did some quick scaling calculations, comparing the length of the side-profile view of the stand on-screen to the dimensions listed in the About This Product section, and it should be good enough, but after a few disappointing purchases I'm not too keen to jump in straight away.

Anyone have any suggestions? All I want is an out-of-the-way stand on my desk where the headphone case lives when I'm not using them.

Why is my image still showing up under my google activity?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:03 PM PST

I removed an image of me that i found on google and i thought that was the end of it.

I was looking at my google activity and it says that i viewed the image and it shows the image in my activity with a link to it.

When i click the link it just goes to a black screen since i removed it.

Why does it still show the image in my activity though?

Will it get replaced by the black screen after a while?

I know i can just delete this from my activity but it kind of makes me uncomfortable that it is still showing up under my activity even though i removed it from google.

Forgot my backup password on S5

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:02 PM PST

Soo, I have a galaxy S5 and it is currently locked. I can't unlock it with my fingerprint because it is stuck in the alternative password screen and I don't remember the password. It won't let me get out of it. I've already restarted, tried a program to unlock it but failed. If you guys have a fix, I couldn't thank you enough.

WiFi speed slowed down on Android. Need help!

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:52 AM PST

Recently, I have been using my Galaxy S9+ as usual, but noticed that my wifi speed is way slower than before, and test showed download speed of ~90kB/s while, upload is 2,440 as usual. I have never rooted my phone, nor installed any speed boosters. But I have installed Hotspot VPN Shield and turned on premium trial account. It has expired since and I have tried to re-install and delete VPN app assuming they affected my wifi speed, but no luck so far. Also, I reseted my router, tried to change the channels, but it didn't help too. When I reboot my phone speed comes to normal level, but after several seconds it slows down again. It seems that only my phone has slow wifi connection, and only on my home router, since my neighbours' wifi works perfectly well. I live in South Korea if it makes any difference. My phone model is Samsung Galaxy S9+ SM-G965N. I'd appreciate any help. TIA!

Why won't Google Play Music play my music through voice commands on my new phone?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:04 PM PST

If I tell Google Assistant to play a song/album/whatever, it now gives this response.

    https://i.imgur.com/nyFONDY.png

This works perfectly fine on my old phone (I just tried it) and it works just fine on the NEW phone by going through the normal app interface.

    https://i.imgur.com/KMgAr4k.png

Am I doing something wrong? Please tell me Google didn't intentionally break this functionality in an attempt to get people to subscribe to their streaming service.

Email widget no longer working correctly with axon 7 and oreo.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 03:57 PM PST

I recently upgraded my OS to oreo and now the Gmail widget is not updating. I have it set to sync every 15 minutes but it won't update on its own or even show email while I'm flipping through my home screen. The only way I can see updated email is to go into the widget and refresh it myself.

I can't figure out why it's not working correctly and I have tried uninstalling and installing it multiple times.

From time to time, nothing loads on my android (specially on wi-fi)

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 03:38 PM PST

    Hi everyone!

I'm having a issue for a long time and it's becoming more and more annoying as time passes.

I've a Motorola Moto G5 (Android 8.1.0) for over 1 year, and often it won't load anything. It's more prevalent on apps I use the most, like Instagram (stories and timeline loads forever then fails), Twitter and Facebook (timeline is all blank, sometimes only text shows up on FB).

Most of the times this happens on Wi-Fi and switching to mobile data helps, but not always. This happens on 4G as well as other wifi connections. Here's an example of Twitter not loading via wifi, then mobile data and then after clearing the cache: https://imgur.com/a/N5V6yor

I've googled up a little before asking here for help and I've found this Android Central's thread with a very similar issue, where the culprit is ipv6 or ipv4. The reason why I can't relate 100% to this particular post is a) this happens on many wifi networks, not only at home, b) this also happens via mobile data, though less frequent and finally c) I couldn't find these settings on my router's config :P

Any ideas? This is SOOOO annoying as it seems it's happening more and more often. Maybe my patience is diminishing, but I really could use some help.

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. Not sure if this is a device settings question, but seems like it.
P.S2 The imgur algum is 25 days old because I tried to ask this here some time ago, trying again now.
