was my iphone hacked/remotely controlled? Posted: 21 Oct 2018 08:10 PM PDT I'm shaking as a i write this - iphone 7 - Woke up at 2 am to the sound of a voice recording being made. Take a look at my phone, there are 5 voice recordings that have been made. I listen to all of them and they are silent - it just sounds like the room. the first two are for five seconds, the last few are for a minute. The first two just say 'new recording' the last few have gibberish for titles with random readable words like 'the our time' and 'gun banged up znim the game and the other work stations' I'm a little freaked out, but thought it was a tech glitch. So i go on to twitter to search if anyone has had this problem Somehow i had sent two tweets an hour before (so at 1am while i was fast asleep) both gibberish or just 'hi' but in reply to other tweets - i immediately deleted them though now i wish had taken screen shot I check instagram, some other accounts, don't see any weird emails sent or comments. So at this point i think - was I sleep browsing? i was having really weird dreams when i woke up so i thought it was possible i was on my phone while i was asleep. But then i go to safari on my iphone to look it up. and there are WEBSITE HISTORY RESULTS THAT ARE NOT MINE. I'm talking another language, including searches for 'how to update your location on google' I also saw that a blank picture (black screen) was in my photos added after i had gone to bed. I couldn't find anything suspicious log in on my apple device access. Help. How do i fix this? I have 2 factor on EVERYTHING including my apple id. I don't know if this matters, but i work for a company people would want to hack (think government, big name company, etc). [link] [comments] |
Need help after just being hacked Posted: 22 Oct 2018 01:46 AM PDT So I was on my laptop and I left to go to the kitchen. When I came back, I noticed the mouse on my laptop was moving on it's own. Not only that, but the password management page on Google chrome had been opened up and was being scrolled through. Out of panic, I immediately shut my computer off and unplugged my router. I turned my laptop back on and looked at my history and saw that a few tabs for my microsoft account had been opened as well as tabs for paypal and Amazon. I just reset my passwords for paypal and my email and amazon, and I'm gonna have to get a new debit card tomorrow. I searched through my recently downloaded programs and saw that team viewer was downloaded around the time that I left. I went into the incoming connections log and that gave me what looked to be an IPv6 address (not too sure what it is, tbh). Is there anything else that I should do at this point? Can I do anything with the address I got from this guy? [link] [comments] |
What steps can I take to improve my hardware? Posted: 21 Oct 2018 11:06 AM PDT I recent upgraded from a AMD R9 270 to a 1070ti and ran the standard benchmark at userbenchmark.com . My AMDFX-8350 CPU and new graphics card were a bit above average but my hard drives and memory were way below average. Are there any steps I can do to increase my existing hardware's performance? (obviously WITHOUT getting new hardware). Thanks for your help! Current ram specs: https://imgur.com/a/DHoeABA CPU specs/settings: https://imgur.com/a/GO8uUTD [link] [comments] |
What would happen if I deleted all certificates on a Windows machine's certificate stores? Posted: 22 Oct 2018 03:31 AM PDT It is not being used to host a server, to route any traffic for any other PC, etc. What would happen if I deleted all certificates in the Windows Certificate Manager? edit: I don't plan to actually do this. I ask because I'm trying to delete all self-signed certificates and want to know what happens if I mess up and actually delete all of them. [link] [comments] |
What on earth do you call this thing in English?? Posted: 22 Oct 2018 12:34 AM PDT So we're looking for some of these things for our offices, but I can't figure out what you call them in English. Demand for them here in Denmark is very low, so we can only find shitty once like the one in the picture. EDIT: This thing is something that you put in a meeting room table, and you can hide cables and such in there. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Oct 2018 02:21 AM PDT Hello everyone, recently i've had issues regarding my internet being extremely unstable/slow, i've called my ISP to check with it and they told me that there was nothing wrong. I connect to the internet from my computer via using an Ethernet cable so i was wondering if that as the problem causing this issue, can anyone check the image and tell me your thoughts? Black Screen of Death - explorer.exe will not start at all and other issues. Posted: 21 Oct 2018 10:07 PM PDT Have an Intel NUC i5 (7i5BNHXF) which is now black screening. I cannot open any services window (services.msc, devmgmt.msc etc) from cmd. I can open regedit. Attempted to run sfc and got Windows resource protection is unable to perform. Windows 7 on a Z390 Motherboard Posted: 22 Oct 2018 03:44 AM PDT I'm thinking of buying the "MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC, S-1151" but I notice on their website that only Windows 10 64 is supported. However, when I open the chipset and LAN driver installers, it says that Windows 7 is actually supported, what's up with that? I don't need the VGA driver and probably not the SATA driver either, so do you think it will work if I just install the chipset and LAN drivers on Windows 7? Is there anything that you know of that could go wrong? Please, no comments about Windows 10. [link] [comments] |
PC disconnects keyboard and even my Samsung headset Posted: 22 Oct 2018 03:33 AM PDT I observed that sometimes when I boot my PC, my RGB keyboard (USB connected) will not go light and some keys wont function. I have to disconnect the KB from the PC and insert it again. My samsung headset will disconnect after 3-4 seconds inserting it from the headphone jack and Again and again. My gaming headphone works fine with usb and two jacks for mic and ear. Any idea? My conclusion is it could be the power or some connectors. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Oct 2018 03:31 AM PDT Just for some starter info I bought this PC on amazon for $2700: MSI Aegis Ti3 8RG-012US (i7-8700K, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 3TB HDD, NVIDIA GTX 1070Ti 8GB I thought it was gonna be a great PC but i tried to stream some chess and it just lags a bit more than I thought. Same with the witcher on max graphics so I did some digging. I found that I was almost completely out of space in my storage which is weird since I bought 2 terabytes. Looked at my storage to find everything automatically going to my "c" drive which is default i guess but has alot less space than me "d" drive. I cant for the life of me figure out how to switch my "d" drive to the default. If you can help me fix this issue and my computer runs faster I would be more than willing to buy you a pizza. Cheers, JJ [link] [comments] |
How to prevent Windows 10 from opening applications or windows on my 3rd "monitor" Posted: 22 Oct 2018 03:06 AM PDT Hello, so I have a bit of a problem with windows 10 launching applications and windows on my 3rd "monitor". The reason I put quotations around "monitor" is because it's not really a monitor, it's a receiver that I use for my sound system, which is plugged into the computer (and my main monitor) via HDMI. I have two desk monitors that I use regularly, but for some reason, after rebooting my computer (or after waking the computer from sleep), it'll by default launch all applications (except fullscreen ones) on the 3rd monitor, which is the receiver. My current work around is to just right click on the applications on the taskbar, and using the "Move" option, then dragging them over to the correct monitor, but the problem is that Move doesn't work with all applications, for instance, Discord. So in order to move it, I have to switch over to the HDMI input on my monitor (which fucks with windows because suddenly, the main monitor is no longer connected), move the application over to the second monitor, switch back to mDP, and then move the application over to the first monitor. Doing this several times a day is very tedious, so I was wondering if there was a way for me to keep the receiver plugged int via hdmi, but not have it show up as a 3rd "monitor" or perhaps just make it so any application or window always opens on either the second or first monitor. I've tried using the Duplicate mode in the Display settings, but that causes issues too since the receiver outputs a 1080p resolution image, and my main monitor is 1440p, which causes windows to restrict the resolution of my main monitor to 1080p. Thank you for reading! [link] [comments] |
Local updated version of .csv file on a website Posted: 22 Oct 2018 03:02 AM PDT Hi, everybody. I apologize in advance if what I'm asking doesn't make any sense and it's not possible. I'm new to programming, and I'm getting more and more interested in computers. I'm constantly asking myself what new possibilities arise from being able to code a little. *** To the main point: sites like iMDb and Goodreads allow you to save lists ('watchlists' and 'readlists', respectively) on your profile. This lists can then be downloaded and saved as .csv files on your computer. Could there be a way to keep a file (.csv or otherwise) on my computer that is always in synch with the list on the website? In other words, I'd like to be able to keep adding movies and books through the website and have those changes reflected on a local file on my computer. I understand that this could potentially be a complex issue, so any advice on what I should be studying/learning in order to be able to accomplish something like this is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Laptop shuts down without warning. Posted: 22 Oct 2018 02:57 AM PDT My Asus N552vx Vivobook pro is shutting down with a clicking noise. It does not even prompt low battery warning. If I use my laptop without plugging in power it hardly runs for 5 minutes and shuts down. I have generated a battery report here -https://ufile.io/xo9ix Advise me if I should go for a new battery or is it a windows 10 upgrade problem. Thank you for your time. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Oct 2018 07:13 PM PDT My "view as" tool doesn't seem to be available so I made a fake account using an email account I only use for spam. The email I used has been used for very few sites and only ones where I don't care to get the email- nothing related to social media like twitter instagram etc. Yet when I logged in on this fake account- it recommended my normal account, it recommended all the people at the school I go to etc. I don't get it, how is this fake account linked to my normal account? Is it just by IP? My original account is old so Its under an old email I no longer use from hotmail and the new account was a google email account. How could this fake account be linked to me? Location sharing is off, the phone number and age are fake, as well as the name [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Oct 2018 10:40 PM PDT Hi there, My laptop screen seem to have died on me today. First it was missing rows of pixels (first picture), then, after a bit of fiddling around, a crack appeared on the bottom right corner of the screen and a lost an inch of the right side of the screen to a black bar (second picture). Is this something that can be fixed or will it need to be replaced? This is a Lenovo Thinkpad E570. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Can I use an HDMI to RCA cable from a PC to a TV? Posted: 22 Oct 2018 02:26 AM PDT I've just moved into my first solo apartment and a friend has offered to give me a big flat screen TV for free... But it lacks an HDMI port and only has red/yellow/white RCA holes. My laptops (a Toshiba and an HP, running Windows 7 and 10 respectively) and my PlayStation 3 and 4 only have HDMI ports. If I got a cable with HDMI on one end and r/y/w RCA on the other, would I be able to plug a laptop in and duplicate the screen/use it as a second screen? Would this same cord also work with my PlayStation 3 and 4? [link] [comments] |

Need to run old Windows software on my Mac. How? Posted: 22 Oct 2018 02:14 AM PDT For a journalistic investigation I need to run software, which was made for Windows 95 and Windows 98. I work on a Mac. Is there any way to do this? And if so, would there be a way, where I can copy the software off the CD-Rom on my Mac or an USB stick and run it from there? Any ideas and help is much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Somehow changed my laptop login-details via the Microsoft Store - how to fix these issues? Posted: 22 Oct 2018 02:08 AM PDT Hi all, Sorry for asking such noob questions. But anyway, I have been struggling with trying to manually install updates on my laptop. It has Windows 10 and months ago, I somehow disabled automatic updates, so that my metered connection wouldn't be impacted etc. While in the Microsoft Store trying to do this, I either logged out of my account, or wasn't signed-in to begin with. So I then seemingly created a new account with my Skype ID/Gmail. Restarting my laptop, it then prompted me for my usual sign-in details - but this time, the name had changed to my Gmail name, combined with my Skype password. How can I revert this initial login details back to my old one? Ever since I had my laptop, I have had the same Welcome name etc and password. Any help much appreciated! Is it possible I had been using a "local account" and password to sign onto my laptop each time? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Oct 2018 02:07 AM PDT I realise this may be a stupid question, as I assume an electrician can do the job. I have a desktop gaming PC but am currently operating wirelessly, but when I'm playing an online multiplayer game and my girlfriend decides she wants to watch Netflix, well there's just no hope seeing as Netflix is a bandwidth hog. Presumably having a wired connection for the PC will eliminate this issue? (Correct me if I'm wrong, please). I was wondering if it is a job that an electrician can do or if it's a job for the Internet provider? Where would the source of the wiring be from? The issue is that the Virgin Media "Internet port box thingy" is in the room beneath where I want a new socket. If the wall needs channeling out to put a new socket in then the job's a bust because I don't want to be dealing with redecorating as well since we only did it last year. In this case, for anyone techy, is there a way to limit the bandwidth Netflix uses on a smart TV? [link] [comments] |

The setup can be seen in the picture below. The upper cable with 2 wires goes to router, but I don't understand where those 2 wires need to be connected to. The previous tenant said that it worked for him, but he does not remember how it was connected. Any help will be appreciated a lot ;) Here is the setup https://imgur.com/a/RoQSwQE [link] [comments] |
Got this reoccurring prompt when booting pc Posted: 22 Oct 2018 01:55 AM PDT Got this message Here and I was wondering if anyone knew what it meant. I didn't change my cpu at all and I saw on a year old Reddit post that disabling security device support in the BIOS removes it.
