Posted: 30 Oct 2018 05:56 PM PDT So my problem is that whenever I send an email, for example let's say my name is John Doe, it doesn't show up as John Doe, but as my old nickname, Beeftaker5555. I've changed all my settings in gmail, account name, in gmail, in google+, everywhere but this problem still persists. I've taken a few pictures to make it easier to explain. [Here you can see how mine doesn't use the normal name structure](https://i.imgur.com/fs79QbN.png) [When I wrote this post I realized this address even has a different "name tag" in gmail, mine is red with a D with it -my initial-, while "my" email address is a blue I, which is the dresses initial, here I tried to send an email to myself.](https://i.imgur.com/j8qh8Dm.png) Any help? I'm almost giving up on this email but and creating a new one, but there might be a very easy solution to this one I just don't know what is it. Reading back it's kind of fuzzy, but basically what I want is that when I send an email, the name will say John Doe, not ItsMyLife7997. Edit: fuck the new formatting language of reddit damn. Bitcoin Miner malware, detected with Malware Bytes but I believe it's still hidden somewhere. Posted: 30 Oct 2018 06:58 PM PDT so a few days ago I did something stupid and tried to torrent a game for the first time and ended up installing a Bitcoin Miner onto my PC :/ It was very obvious that it was malware as it quickly seemed to hijack Google Chrome. I scanned with Windows Defender but nothing was found so I checked out the sticky post on here and got a trial of Malware Bytes, which detected the malware and quarantined it, then I removed it. I really thought it was that simple but I think it's still there. I had Spotify playing music on idle and got curious, did CTRL + ALT + DELETE to open up Task Manager and quickly saw my CPU % shoot down from 100% to 2% - %5, which is what it's been sitting at when I'm using it right now. Other than that, there are a couple of weird things that make me think the virus is still there:
As per the stickied thread, I ran rkill.com and turned on "scan for rootkits" in my Malware Bytes trial, and also ran the ADWCleaner. I did all of the above after I had originally removed the malware with Malware Bytes, so all these second scans didn't detect anything. Is there anything else I could do to actually detect the malware and remove it? EDIT: Google Chrome keeps not responding, same with Malware Bytes. Can't uninstall Malware Bytes and Firefox stopped responding too. Writing this on my phone since I turned everything off briefly after writing this post, since my mouse started moving extremely slow and a repetitive beeping sound started coming out of my speakers. I swear it was like whatever infected me detected whenever I looked up information on malware removal and visited this subreddit ... [link] [comments] |
PC randomly freeze for a 0.5 to 1 second and a buzzing noise comes into the headphones Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:55 AM PDT Recently, I've been having this issue when my PC will freeze for a second or less, and give this buzzing noise in my headphones. I've ran CrystalDiskInfo and everything seems fine on there. I ran a diagnostic memory with windows - no errors there. I updated my GPU drivers, and it carried on happening (using the nvidia site). The specs of the computer I know are: geforce gtx 780 intel core i7 940 16gb ram 2tb hdd Windows 10 I'm not sure what other specs they are - the PC was gifted to me by somebody for Christmas, and it's a pretty old PC. I'm not sure what the issue could be. [link] [comments] |
Paranoid about VPN and malware Posted: 30 Oct 2018 11:37 PM PDT I was searching for a decent VPN to use and came across Mullvad, however after using it for a few times I realized that another application I use for better connection to different countries just refused to work anymore (this is when the VPN was disconnected) and would not connect me to any servers. As soon as I did a fresh install of my OS everything was working back to normal like it was prior to Mullvad being installed and used. I do like the idea of having a VPN but I'm also very paranoid in general about malware and viruses and was curious if that was the case here or if someone could explain what happened and how I can avoid it? I do run malwarebytes with bitdefender but nothing was picked up by these two. [link] [comments] |
HDD having issues with energy saving mode after win10 install Posted: 31 Oct 2018 03:07 AM PDT I have a HDD with some music and videos. The energy saving is set to "turn off 20mins". But it turns itself on again every few minutes again for no apparent reason. I had that issue years ago when I bought the HDD but I can't remember how I fixed this. Any suggestions? Windows broken after motherboard replacement. Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:46 AM PDT Hi, A few days ago i wanted to go from ddr3 to ddr4 ram but my motherboard at the time was too old for that so i bought a new motherboard (asus tuf x470 plus gaming), 16go of ram to go with it and a new processor (ryzen 7 2700x) because why not. At the time my ignorant ass had no idea you're supposed to reinstall windows afterwards, thought it was as easy as replacing a gpu. So i open the pc, replace the parts, turn it on and ... everything seems to be working fine, my files and programs are still there. I am asked to "reactivate" windows but once i entered the product key everything went fine. EXCEPT : now windows freezes randomly for a few seconds no matter what the computer is doing at the time. It can happen when i open an internet page or start a program. It happen quite often too (several times in an hour). Second problem : 2 out of 3 times i won't have any image when i turn on the computer and i will have to restart the computer until i eventually get something on the scree. Third big problem : i tried reinstalling windows with the "reset this pc option" but the computer will always bug before the operation is complete and i will have to restart it with the operation canceled and nothing improved. At this point it's pretty obvious that i broke something in my ignorance, but i don't know in which direction to go to fix it, any help please ? :) [link] [comments] |

My internet cuts out when I use a browser following gaming Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:25 AM PDT I can be playing Overwatch or Fortnite for hours yet the second I alt tab and do a google search the internet either will instantly disconnect and refuse to load the page or a DC will occur in-game in the next few minutes. Restarting the router prior to a long session reduces the chances that this happens but sometimes I forget and it causes me to have DCs whilst playing. Why would this possibly be happening? How to test whether hardware has faults Posted: 31 Oct 2018 01:45 AM PDT I've recently built myself my first computer. I've had a few problems that indicate I might have a hardware fault: AIDA64 fails the stability test. I can't seem to isolate which piece of hardware is causing the stability problem, it's being quite inconsistent. The CPU failed a stability test with OCCT. I'm experiencing some fault with trying to boot into a Linux distro, and I've been told that it seems like it's a hardware fault of sorts, either RAM or GPU allegedly. I'm quite unsure what to do with my computer. I'd like to try and rule out whether the hardware is working as intended; if not, I might be able to get a refund or swap it over for something else. Any help would be appreciated! My parts are: 2700x AMD CPU RX 580 AMD GPU Flare X 3200 G.Skill RAM x370-pro prime ASUS Mobo [link] [comments] |
Burning a video project to DVD-R but getting weird error from Nero/Windows..... Posted: 31 Oct 2018 12:57 AM PDT So I've been tasked with burning 100 DVDs for a project I am working on for my group. Reality small video (and some pictures), like 1.5gigs. I'm using DVD-Rs (they want discs). Memorex, Maxell, Sony...etc 4.7g discs are the ones I'm using. Well I use Nero to burn the project on a DVD just fine with my towers Multi-Recorder. But I also plugged in my USB Portable Bluray Player/Writer (does DVDs and what not too). But half the time when I go to burn the project using this drive it stops right away and says theres an error. Also I've tried other brand discs too. I have no idea what this error even means. Maybe its a crappy burner? Its a LG model BP50NB40. And I did update the firmware on it a few months back. Also I'm using Win 7 (64). t Lower GPU performance after upgrading CPU? Posted: 30 Oct 2018 05:48 AM PDT So I'm kinda lost here. I upgraded from an h87 chipset 4770 to a z390 9900k. Running the same 1070 G1 GPU. I'm getting about 30% less frames than what I'm used to. Games definitely are GPU bound as the card sits at 100% usage. Temps seems fine. I don't understand it. Fresh installed GPU drivers, latest chipset drivers. Power plans make no difference. Clocks and power draw seem to be normal (I think?). If someone has any ideas please let me know. GPUZ and HWINFO screenshots. Here Thanks! edit: Works. Thank you every one. It was those fancy horizontal SATA ports that blocked my GPU from going all the way in. How it worked and worked well (150+ FPS) while not being fully engaged, I have no idea. Had to put it in the x8 slot and it works fine. [link] [comments] |
Computer Freezes and Disconnects from Monitor Posted: 31 Oct 2018 12:42 AM PDT Hello, Over the past couple of months my computer has been constantly freezing and my monitors lose connection, causing me to have to do a force restart on the computer. This usually occurs when I play a game, after around 5 minutes it will crash the computer. Other times it will crash while watching youtube, while on discord, and even when i'm using Microsoft office. I have an Alienware X51 R2, not sure about the specific specs of the computer. Any help is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Reinstalling Windows 7 on a COA machine Posted: 31 Oct 2018 12:34 AM PDT Let's get right into it. I'm gonna get an old HP Compaq (as media server) with a copy of Win7 Professional activated as COA (sticker key). The OS is already installed and activated. I'm gonna replace the HDD, thus I'm forced to reinstall everything. Question is: If I reinstall an ISO of the exact same version as before, will the copy get automatically reactivated? If it's gonna ask me the key, can I provide the one that's written on the sticker? Help would be appreciated, thanks Reddit. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2018 10:18 PM PDT Ok I've been having this issue constantly over the past few days with no warning of when it crashes. Then I see that at the bottom of the monitor is what appears to be the same image repeated multiple times showing a black and white security cam of two dudes. No idea wtf is going on. Mirco stuttering and freezing. Posted: 30 Oct 2018 11:59 PM PDT --system specs-- i7-6700k GTX-1080 ti 850 evo x2 Windows 10 --system specs-- The computer has been mirco freezing constantly for the past two days. I have tried to rectify the problem by drive checking the windows files for missing or corrupted files/folders all reporting no issues. I have checked the software of all programs and nothing seems to be working. I have a link to a video where if a visual representation of what I am dealing with is needed for clarification. https://youtu.be/5i7hSpcJVEI <-- video of the problem Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Logitech MX Master 2s Scroll Wheel Posted: 31 Oct 2018 03:37 AM PDT I have had this mouse for a month now and it's probably the most comfortable mouse I've ever used. The issue is that the scroll wheel is very intermittent, one day it will work, the next it will not scroll at all despite the wheel moving. I have tried uninstalling the drivers, changing the Bluetooth mode from 1, 2 and 3 and plugging the mouse in used to fix it but that has stopped fixing it too. It's now been a few days since it last worked. The side-wheel always works and never fails. I have changed multiple things in Logitech options but this mouse is just the worst. Anyone had a similar issue that could help me? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Oct 2018 03:35 AM PDT Hello. Fixing old stuff fir fun. Repaired power socket on Asus F3Ka old free laptop, it now does not boot for some reason. Always gets stuck on checking nvram. That check is not selectable in bios, bios reset with user defaults reset, factory defaults reset did not help. Removing battery to clear cmos did not help too. Tied downgrade of bios version and upgrade too, did not change a thing. It sometimes writes checking nvram... update OK! And just stays there, does not try to boot. Tried removing a hard drive, one ram stick, using different ram slot, does not seem related at all. Have no idea what to do next. It has an army of screws and needs disconnecting a scren to remove mobo so I have no desire to tear it down again to check hell knows what hardware problems which might not be there. Changed bios batteries twice just to make sure too, original was dead, but laptop booted before, when it had power cord just right. It had wrong time vut worked. Can somoeone shed me a bit of light on problem like this? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Oct 2018 03:19 AM PDT okay so i bought a Sinotec 4K TV hoping to play games at 4K 60fps. My current card is the Sapphire RX480 8GB, and i also just recently bought a High-speed HDMI cable capable of 4K*2K @60Hz. When setting my resolution to 4K i cant get anything over 4K @30hz. Is there something im doing wrong? I will link everything i have. Hopefully im just doing something wrong and it will be a quick fix. Edit: I got it working, after changing my resolution to 4k through Windows 10 and restarting my PC, i am now getting 4K @60hz. Thanks for all the suggestions [link] [comments] |

System freeze possibly caused by CPU issue? Posted: 31 Oct 2018 03:14 AM PDT Specs: AsRock 970 Extreme4, FX8120 @ 4.0, GTX1060 SSC(month old), Windows 7 64-bit I am experiencing infrequent system freezes (sometimes BSOD), but on the following startup (after manual power down) I noticed that UFEI will list the processor at only 3.1 (base setting) and then once windows starts AXTu shows the CPU frequency one point off at 201mhz. I have never updated BIOS, but the settings are the same as they've always been. Recently, however, I did remove and clean the CPU heatsink (clogged with pet dander) with new thermal paste applied. Does this sound like a hardware problem with possibly the CPU/Mobo, or am I freaking myself out over the heatsink and it's more likely a software/OS/driver issue? I fear that a complete rebuild might be in my near future unfortunately. [link] [comments] |
Can I upgrade my motherboard and processor without buying a new copy of Windows? Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:56 AM PDT Hi! So obviously it's entirely within the realm of possibility to just upgrade a motherboard and processor without buying a new copy of Windows, however I'm in a kind of specific situation that I couldn't really find a lot of data on, or maybe I just didn't look hard enough. But I had a 32 bit, OEM copy of Windows 7 originally, and when prompted to get a free upgrade to Windows 10, I did so. I don't remember exactly how I did it since it's been awhile, but I believe I also managed to change it to a 64 bit copy of Windows 10 while doing so, using the Windows Media Creation Tool. That's what sounds familiar to me, anyway. Now, it's a couple of years later, and I'm looking to upgrade my computer again, however the one thing holding me back is the little fact that I wouldn't be able to upgrade my motherboard and processor while using an OEM copy of Windows, since it should technically be linked to the motherboard I have. But, I was recently digging around the Windows settings and found the Activation tab under Update & Security, and noticed that it said that my copy of Windows was activated with a digital license linked to my Microsoft account. So I suppose my real question is, does having my copy of Windows activated via being linked to my Microsoft account permit me to upgrade my motherboard and processor without having to go out and buy a whole new copy of Windows? Or does my copy of Windows 10 still retain its OEM status? I mean, I definitely have the money to spend, but at the same time, I don't want to just spend $100 if I don't have to, and I'd like to be able to spend that $100 on nicer parts. Thanks for the help.
