I spilled cup noodle into my PC, please send help

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:14 AM PDT

While chasing bugs out of my room I accidently knocked a nearly empty (<1/3 cup) thing of cup noodle into my PC. It was already turned off, but I immediately pulled the power cord just in case.

There was a small amount of pooling on the back (the side with all the solder not the bits) of my graphics card. There was also some lodged in the CPU cooler.

Most of the liquid seems to entered the case at such an angle as to avoid the components (I couldn't find any wet spots on the mb, HDD, PSU, or ram). I currently have the graphics card and CPU cooler laying on a towel with everything else still in the case and a desk fan air drying it all.

I would really like to be able to reassemble it and not have something get fried, so I'm open to any and all suggestions as to how I might accomplish that. (Eg. Wait times, passive vs active drying, can I test individual parts without risking others)

Sorry if this isn't really the right place or if the formatting is off, this is the only "tech support forum" I'm familiar with and that I could post/read easily from my phone.

Ryzen 2600x build for 1440p, need a second pair of eyes.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:13 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'd like some help. I haven't built a PC in a long time so not sure if I'm doing everything right but I did some research on my own to make a list of parts that at least looks decent.

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Gaming, a bit of programming. Right now I have a 1080p monitor but I plan to get a 1440p one and I'd like to get at least 60FPS in upcoming/more demanding games and 144FPS in older/less demanding ones. I don't really play AAA games that much but I'd still like to play Nier: Automata, ME: Andromeda or Doom. I mostly play RPGs like Divinity: OS2 or Pillars of Eternity and quite a bit of indie games.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

1400-1500€ without monitor and HDDs(will use ones from my current PC)

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    Poland

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant - I've replaced the links below to the Polish shops but in this link, you can still see German ones.

I'll add some comments about the choices I have made so far.

CPU - well, choosing it caused me the most problems so far. I've initially planned to get i7-8700k but since the prices skyrocketed I've decided to go red instead. I've abandoned thought of getting 2700x cause performance in games between that CPU and 2600x is pretty negligible. What I'm still wondering about is if it's worth to get 2600x instead of 2600. As you can see above I'm also getting a decent cooler so OC is definitely possible and OCed 2600 pretty much ties 2600x while it's ~50€ cheaper. Also, the advantage of getting AMD CPU is that I can replace it in about a year cause next gen of Zen processors will also use AM4 socket so if I feel that I need some more juice I'll be able to easily upgrade to Ryzen 3xxx.

Cooler - I'm still torn between the Dark Rock 4 and Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev. B. I'll probably choose the former as I like the design a bit more and from what I've found out the performance of those two is quite similar. I'll have a question though. DR4 is a large cooler. Won't it interfere with my RAM modules?

MOBO - I'll be honest, I'm getting this MOBO mostly because there is a promo where you can get 40€ of Steam Wallet if you purchase a Gigabyte motherboard. I know that most people here recommend just getting a B450 mobo but as I've already said I might do some OC and I'm looking for something that will be decent enough for a Zen 2 CPU next year.

RAM - They look cool, performance-wise they are not too shabby either and honestly my plan is to get some more Corsair stuff with RGB so I can make my PC pretty. I already have a Corsair mouse(Glaive) and I'll be getting K95/K70 keyboard soon so making the LEDs synchronized with iCue is a big selling point for me.

GPU - I haven't replaced the link cause I've chosen the Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce as a placeholder as I'm still not sure which GPU to get. It looks like 1070Ti cards are almost as good as the 1080s so I'm still weighing my options.

Old monitor with 2080ti or 1080ti w/ Gsync?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:59 AM PDT

    Hi All,

    I'm after a few second (third, forth...) opinions;

I have a bit of money to spend on upgrades to my PC, and can't decide which way to go..

Currently running 970sli with a AOC 4k/60Hz (U2868PQU) monitor, which after 3-4 years has been struggling, especially at 4K, and i want to move away from sli.

Should i get a 1080ti with a new gysnc monitor

    OR

keep using the AOC with a new 2080ti?

Both options will run to around 1200 GBP.

N.B. I have a PS4 pro as well so want to stay at 4K 16:9.

Rest of the build is i7-5930k, H150i pro, 32gb ram, Asus x99 MB, a couple of SSDs and Rm850i.

Both options would be a significant improvement, but I'm interested to hear from anyone who can advocate the virtues of Gsync.

    Thanks

I have a custom built PC (not buy me), but my GTX 660 TI died. My processor is a Intel Pentium CPU G3258 @3.20GHz (2 CPUs),3.2GHz and my limit is at about £750. What graphics cards would people recommend, and will I have to buy a new processor if i'm buying a new graphics card, or want to play new games like Metro Exodus?

    My PC Build

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:36 PM PDT

Hello guys, I just built a computer I'd like to buy on Black Friday and I hoped you could provide feedback. I plan to OC the 2600.

What output (graphs, fps) should I expect for the monitor consideration. I also have no idea what keyboars to get, just don't wanna spend too much on it.

Side panel lcd questions for those successful

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:11 PM PDT

Thinking about doing the side panel lcd, and have a few questions I can't find easily online.

Mainly, what is the route to safely make sure the controller board of the lcd is tucked away and not going to short something, or zap myself? Electrical tape the whole thing down so it's covered?

Also, if there a good tutorial on how to get the anti glare off, or how to tell if the monitor I get even has this anti glare, or any other layers? I've watched every tutorial I can find, but these few ?s don't seem to be consistently addressed. Thanks all

Planning out first water cooling loop for my CPU

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 12:30 PM PDT

I know this should be on r/Watercooling, but for some reason my post there doesn't show up when I sort by new and the Mods aren't responding to me, so, maybe you guys can help.

    Specs of current PC:

    Ryzen 5 1600

    Asus ROG C6H

    GTX 1080 Strix

    TridentZ RGB RAM 2x8

Enthoo Pro M Special Edition (ODD installed, might take it out later)

WD Blue HDD installed in drive cage

After some good direction given to me in my first post in r/Watercooling, I looked around multiple sites but think I found cheap deals on AliExpress, I'm just hoping to get clarification if these are good quality parts or if I should spring for something else.

Rad (will be mounted at top of case)

    Barrow Dabel-a 240mm

    Or

    BYKSKI B-240RD-M 240mm

Waterblock (not sure if these are G1/4 like the rad&fittings)

    BYKSKI jet micro-channel

    Or

BYKSKI Transparent Acrylic AURA RGB CPU-XPR-AM

Fittings (not sure on the difference between these two)

    "Barrow White G1/4 3/8""ID X 5/8""OD THKN-3/8-V3"

    Or

    "Barrow White G1/4 3/8""ID X 5/8""OD TFHRKN38H"

    ** Soft Tubing**

"Barrow 3/8""ID X 5/8""OD PU Hose Transparent Water Pipes 1Meter/pc"

This is what I have so far. I would like a pump/res combo to save room, and am hoping for suggestions on which to use with the parts I've found. I saw some D5 models by EK and some Thermaltake and Enermax ones on Newegg, but I'm at a bit of a loss on what to choose for the pump/res.

Besides what I've already mentioned I think I just need something to make a drain port(although that Barrow rad looks like it might have one built in?), probably a few 90° fittings, kill coil, maybe a temp sensor, and maybe a white coolant to go with my Enthoo Pro M Special Edition aesthetic.

Please let me know if you have any criticisms and/or suggestions! I mainly need help finding a pump/res that will fit in my case and be good quality without breaking the bank.

Edit: I tried to pick 100% copper parts but the AliExpress descriptions aren't the clearest so I'm not sure if they are. Thanks!

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive. System wont post, ez_debul light comes for two seconds then off.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem. Took it all the case, tried minimal setup, 3 different graphics cards, different psu cables, 3 different monitors, only one ram in the primary slot according to manual, switched between ram modules, Clear CMOS, switched PCIE slots, reseated CPU (it slides in by itself, no pin problems. Everything I can think

Post relevant photos of build/parts here.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

This is the whole story the system had problems solved with bios update, and everything I've tried, I posted this in the msi forums.

Hello, my system is: X470 Gaming Pro Motherboard, Ryzen 7 2700X, EVGA GQ 1000W, Vega 64.

So I assembled my system on Saturday and started using it, but was having problems with the whole computer freezing sometimes, I first thought It was the graphics card, I swapped with a second one I have Quadro K4000, and was having the same problem on Linux and on Windows. So After much troubleshooting I updated the BIOS to the last version on Sunday and suddenly the freezes went away completely, was really happy. Then yesterday noon (monday) I left with the computer on working perfectly, when I came back at night the computer was frozen no image, no power to mouse or keyboard. I shut it off and since then It hasn't post.

When booting the ez_debug light comes on for about 2 seconds and then shuts off. The computer just keeps going all the fans on, cooler, etc. But that's it no image whatsoever. I tried switching graphics cards, I've tried 3 already, no luck. So I know that's not the problem, I see It doesn't cycle any of the components DRAM, VGA, BOOT after the CPU light goes off, which seems weird; so I tried removing the RAM and boot, and It does show there's a problem with the RAM, and only the RAM light will stay with the LED on. But If I dont have any GPU, the VGA light doesn't do nothing. I've tried changing the PSU Cables to the CPU, 3 different monitors, I've Cleared the CMOS, I've taken the CPU off and put it back, it slides in by it self, no bent pins. Still the weird thing is why the CPU light doesn't stay on, or any of the EZ lights and is not posting. Also the motherboard has lights behind, sometimes when booting they start with red color and stay, and sometimes they start white then turn to red, Idk if that has any meaning.

I would appreaciate any help, was really happy with my first built pc :(

Don't have a stable home - Small form factor or laptop

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:11 AM PDT

    My current build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/7TZ9yX

Hey guys, so I'm not really in a stable home at the moment and I'm moving every 2ish weeks around London without a car so lugging around my nzxt h440 on the tube isn't a viable option.

I have a budget of around 400 and in my mind have 2 options; upgrade my cpu and motherboard and build a small form factor pc or sell my pc and buy a gaming laptop(what could I expect to get for my current build) At the moment I only use my computer for tekken 7 (when soulcalibur 6 is released I'll probably be playing that) and watching movies

Could you give me any advice? Thankyou xoxoxo

EDIT: Probably decided on a laptop; how much do you think I'd be able to get for my old pc?

    Order of upgrades?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:41 PM PDT

    Currently running https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LjqdMZ

Playing games that are not too GPU intensive for the most part. Fortnite, Starcraft, ffxiv, a bit of Witcher 3, some other AAA from time to time.

I am aiming for a 1440p, 144hz, 27" gaming experience. Looks like a good idea to hold off on a monitor purchase atm. The 27", 1440p, 144Hz, gsync monitors are all around $600 atm. Hoping that will drop in the next 6 to 12 months.

Right now it looks like my CPU is bottlenecking the GTX 1060. For example, fortnite at 60 fps uses about 60-70% cpu, 70% gpu. But if I bump to 120 fps my cpu is running 95+% on every core and the 1060 is at 99% usage, although appears to still have some vram available.

Time frame for upgrading in stages would be about a year.

So a few questions: Which option makes the most sense? And in what order should it go? 1. Upgrade i5 4570 to 4670k or 4690k, add aftermarket cooler. 2. Upgrade to current gen CPU. Meaning new mobo, cpu, ram. At which point I may as well get a new case and psu. 3. Upgrade to gtx 1070, possibly 1080 depending how prices adjust over the next year or so. 4. Purchase Monitor

    Thanks!

Using a really old DAQ card with a brand new motherboard

This may seem like an odd question, but my lab is working with a really old PC connected a Quanser DAQ card (full-size PCI card). We're looking at building a brand new PC to upgrade the system but the Quanser card needs to work with the new PC. So far, I found that the Gigabyte Z370 H3DP USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard is one of the few new motherboards that's compatible with a Intel i7-8700K processor, and has an old PCI slot. Does anyone know if the PCI slot that Gigabyte has on this motherboard is the full-size one and if the Quanser card will work with it, because the slot dimensions in mm do not seem to be mentioned anywhere.
