How to get All Possible Permissions? Using Windows 10

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 12:33 PM PDT

I've had several annoying instances recently when I couldn't delete a specific folder or run a specific command in the command prompt, which is strange as no one else uses the computer apart from me, nor does it have some higher admin profile controlling it. And now I can't even save files from programs like Movie Maker or OBS on a new drive as "don't have the right permissions". It's just a standard personal computer, not part of any networks like in schools or offices. So why don't I have all possible permissions and have to do all these work-arounds just to do something like delete a folder? Is there a way just to get full permissions on everything possible which I should have already being the only user of the PC so I don't have to worry about coming across any more issues like that?

Windows 10 won't let me click or write anything after a reset.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 07:29 AM PDT

I reset my Windows 10, and as I am setting my account up, I lose the ability to click or write. I am able to do things for some time, (setting up my name password etc.) but not for enough time to have everything done. It doesn't occur after/during a certain point.

Wininit is currently using atleast 45% of my cpu, is there anyway to change this without a full wipe.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 09:58 PM PDT

For the past week Wininit has completely dominated my cpu usage, anywhere from 40%-50% of my cpu.

I have tried looking online but to no avail. I wanted to try this sub before I take more drastic measures. Sorry not sure if this is the best place to ask.

BSOD: Boot device inaccessible after suspension

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 02:55 PM PDT

Long story short: I went into suspension and then, when I pressed the power off button to restore my session, it didn't boot up and showed errors about my overclocking settings (even though I had kept them for months and they're perfectly good. It's just an extra 500mhz on the CPU and I have proper cooling so it's ok). After restoring all of my BIOS settings, it showed the BSOD I mentioned in the title.
Any idea what to do? The PC boots perfectly fine if my boot devices are set to IDE mode, but when I set them to SATA mode they won't boot anymore.

Who can solve this WiFi issue?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 02:31 PM PDT

    Hello Reddit,

I'm helping someone who is not as 'technologically advanced' as me with a WiFi issue they've had since updating to windows 10. Since updating, WiFi has not worked (along with LAN). The problem is with drivers for the wireless card and Realtek PCIe family controller. The interesting thing about this situation is that whenever the driver in device manager is disabled then reinstalled, connection abilities return. However, when you restart the whole machine you loose that connection ability. The only error code I get from both drivers is {10}, "the device cannot start.". I'm thinking it's either a registry or BIOS error.

    Thoughts?

Why does Microsoft Word now have such erratic auto formatting?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 08:58 AM PDT

Am I missing something? What the hell is it even doing? In my time using it I've witnessed :

Sometimes pressing tab makes a small indent/gap, sometimes it makes a regular sized one.

Sometimes pressing tab at the start of a paragraph indents the entire paragraph.

Sometimes pressing enter creates a differently spaced new line than the previous line break.

Sometimes centering an image puts it in the center. Sometimes it puts it slightly offset of the center.

All these things seem to fluctuate based completely on what windows decides it wants to do. How do I make the formatting be like open office or something where it doesn't try to predict what I want?

I had to enter my Bitlocker verification key randomly

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 01:34 AM PDT

Hi , Im using a Surface Book, have never activated the Bitlocker actually and still when I woke up my Laptop this morning I had to enter the verification key to continue using the PC. Well I did find the key and now I can use my PC again but still Im kind of suspicious as to why the Bitlocker activated itself?! Last night I did a regular shutdown and I didnt let anyone else use my PC... Does it ask for the key just randomly once in a while or should I get it checked for third party interventions? thanks in advance

Which SSD for an air-gapped XP os ?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 08:18 AM PDT

I need to migrate a Windows XP os from an HDD to a SSD on an old air-gapped Thinkpad T61 (Middleton Bios patch installed) for someone. I have done this once before, many moons ago, and I recall vaguely that I had to use a specific SSD at the time in order to make this work. However, that Intel 530 SSD series is no longer available, and the information I found online regarding this upgrade is fairly old too and does not take into account currently available SSDs. (Also, Intel's helpline was useless as they don't certify for XP any longer). Any idea which current one(s) work ? Thanks a million.

(Please don't try to convince me of a Windows upgrade, I don't use Windows and it's not my computer. I am merely trying to help someone out. Thank you.)

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 05:53 AM PDT

I find that I need to click 'start-> shut down' approx 3 times before my machine actually starts the shut down process.

is that normal? I wait about 15 seconds between each attempt. it's annoying as anything..
