I just signed up for Washington Gas but when I try to go to their website, I keep getting this message "Your IP has been blocked, please contact support to update your IP range if this is incorrect, country=South Africa"

This message is showing up on my phone and computer.

My ISP is refusing to fix my internet and I need to know how to get out of their flowchart loop.

    Posted: 11 Sep 2018 08:14 PM PDT

As title says, My internet has had a few hiccups for the longest time but after a hurricane hit our area, it has become un-usable.

I will explain the "flowchart" Customwr Service uses to prevent from fixing this:

    1. A unit that seperates nodes to each home in our street is damaged and is giving off very unstable data. Internet shows as online but has inmense packet loss and drops signal every 5 minutes (for a full minute).

    2. Call customer service and explain the problem. They send a technician to see whats wrong (even though they sent multiple ones before, all reporting the same problem).

    3. Technician reports the issue and schedules a service for the area.

    4. Call literally every day to check on the status of the service and get told nothing has been done yet.

    5. After 2+ weeks, get told they verified the internet to be up and running and therefore cancelled the service request.

    6. Say its a misunderstanding and that their data is wrong, its very unstable and its showing up online but requires service.

    7. repeats steps 1-7 for 8+ months.

A friend who is also a technician tells me they will do everything they can to refuse fixing this issue because it involves wasting money to fix.

There are no other ISPs I can use in my area and this is the only option I have for internet, otherwise I would have ditched them a long time ago.

Please help, I dont know what other actions to take. I have called upset so many times, messaged through social media to the same result.

(English is second language, I know i messed up some grammar)

    Laptop Power Banks

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 03:14 AM PDT

Hi there, my girlfriend has an Acer Aspire ES15 and is looking for a power bank so that her battery on the laptop can last throughout her 6 hours of classes at university. Throughout my searching I found that the NOVOO power bank with AC adapter seemed to be our best option priced at £83.99 on Amazon. Would this be the cheapest/most effective option? Many thanks in advance! Have a nice day

Poor speed copying from hard drive to USB stick

    Posted: 11 Sep 2018 05:39 PM PDT

Eight year old laptop (Asus A93S) with:

    · SEAGATE ST31000524AS Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 internal hard drive
    · Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller which controls one USB3 port.
    · SanDisk Ultra Flair USB 3.0 64Gb flash drive

Copying video files from HDD to flash drive, I only get 25-33 MB/s <--- this is the problem I want to solve.

Copying video files from flash drive to HDD, I get 80 - 100 MB/s <--- this is what I expect both ways.

Any ideas how I can get USB3 speeds working properly in the outbound direction?

Maybe the problem is the read speed of the Barracuda? If so, what could cause it to be so slow?

    Thanks.

I had viruses and did a system restore, but I don't think it got rid of them. I then did a backup to an external hard drive and formatted my entire PC, and then transferred my videos, pictures, and text documents back. Am I safe now?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2018 10:25 PM PDT

I downloaded Windows Activator so I could use Microsoft Word for free, but I downloaded it from the wrong website. Tons of viruses and advertisements infected my computer, so I did a system restore and ran Malwarebytes as well as RKill and neither detected anything anymore.

However, last night, I received a text from Paypal saying I had a suspicious charge. Sure enough, it wasn't me, and I checked my Gmail filters and somehow they added a bunch of filters for Paypal, Newegg, Bestbuy, etc. to automatically be sent to the trash bin. So I check the trash bin and it seems like there were two charges made on my Paypal account that I never noticed because of the email filters, as well as a few attempted Newegg purchases that didn't go through.

So this morning I bought an external hard drive and transferred my videos, documents, and pictures onto it. Then I formatted my entire PC and transferred them back. What should I do now? Am I safe? My Google account has two-step verification and Paypal customer service said my location never changed between signing in, so I think I had a RAT on my PC or something and I'm hoping formatting got rid of it.

    Thanks for any advice.

What are some general tips for PC upkeep for a newbie?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2018 06:14 PM PDT

First of all, if this is the wrong place to ask this, I apologize. When searching the subreddit, all the similar questions were very old/outdated.

    A few years ago when I was 16, I had a budget of around $1,000 and a nerdy friend, and he helped me build a PC because we were both really into PC gaming. Here are the specs, if that even helps;

i5 Intel CPU quad core, 3.2 ghz

    8 GB RAM

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti

    250 GB SSD

That was over 4 years ago at this point, and my computer still works as it always did but it has started to get louder. It's liquid cooled, so it's kind of abnormal. Besides scanning it for unused files/programs and cleaning it up with a can of pressurized air, what are some ways that I should update it or just make sure it continues to last? Or, is 4-5 years a good time to consider just building a new computer? I've lost touch of the tech world the last few years, but I've recently started to really appreciate having a computer this nice and don't want to lose it. I currently use revo uninstaller and Glary on a regular basis, but besides that, I'm not sure. Would replacing the liquid cooler/radiator make any sense?

    New RX 570 Dead?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 01:19 AM PDT

Previously posted on r/24hoursupport but posting here for more exposure

Recently I ordered an ASUS RX 570 4GB card to replace my old EVGA GTX 770. The old card was dying and kept on crashing to desktop in some games, or it would black screen and speed up the fans. I safely assumed they were signs of a dead card and ordered a new one.

Today the new card arrived and I used DDU to wipe the old drivers. I replaced the card and installed new drivers. I launched my flight sim (P3D V4) to test how it runs. Upon pulling back on the joystick and getting airborne, my PC shut down and monitor had no signal. It was a little weird so I unplugged it and drained the power from the motherboard then plugged it in and switched it on. The fans moved a little and the power light came on for a second but stopped and didn't power.

I unplugged the new GPU and used the onboard graphics, the BIOS corrupted but the restore BIOS recovered it and it worked fine.. I tested the old card and it worked too, pulled that out and plugged in the 570 again and double checked the connections. Pressed the power button and the PC didn't turn on.

I tried the latest BIOS update but it was from 2014 and didn't fix the issue.

Should I send the card back for warranty or could it be a problem other than a faulty GPU? I do have a weird old motherboard but because the old GPU works I suspect it's not the problem.

Pinch to zoom function on laptop touchpad is enlarging websites instead of changing the zoom level.

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 03:34 AM PDT

When I use the pinch to zoom function on my laptop it is not working correctly. Instead of changing the browser zoom level, and everything on the webpage adjusting accordingly, it is just zooming in. It is working the same in both google chrome and microsoft edge. The function is working correctly in other programs like excel and word.

I have tried reinstalling the synaptic drivers several times but that has not changed anything. My laptop is running Windows 10 64 bit. I have tried searching for a solution on line however so far I have not been able to find one.

Can I avoid windows 10 resetting driver settings whenever there's a major update?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 03:25 AM PDT

Everytime there's a major Windows 10 update (Windows Creators update, windows Fall update, etc.) my display, audio and network driver settings get reset: e.g. my screen goes back to 60hz instead of 75, Viper4Windows (a very good audio equalizer that I highly suggest you try, it will make your listening experience 10 times better) needs to be reinstalled and the wired network settings are reset (I need to change some security settings). This happens because for some reason the my desktop computer believes I have plugged in a NEW monitor/ gpu and NEW sound and network cards (I am just using what comes with the motherboard). So, things stored in memory such as Wi-fi passwords are okay, but many settings will be reverted back to their defaults.

What do you suggest? Is there a solutioin to this at all

GPU Core Clock and Memory Clock maxing out as soon as I start any game.

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 03:23 AM PDT

I have a 1080 Ti, and whenever I try to play a graphic intensive game it will run for a few minutes then freeze my graphics output. When I run a software to show me my GPU figures, as soon as I start the game the core clock and memory clock reach their limit, and gpu load hits 100%.

    Here's a screenshot of GPU-Z

Please help, I've tried so many solutions and nothing works. I just wanna play new games that I bought this GPU for.

Automatically write EXIF info into photos using JSON files

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 03:00 AM PDT

I downloaded all of my photos from Google Photos using takeout, and it gave me all photos without any exif data on it and a corresponding JSON for each; i have about 12k photos so even if i knew how to write the exif myself that'd be out of question; considering that every JSON has the exact same name as the corrisponding photos, is there any software that automatically detects JSONs and writes exif data on photo with the same?

Dell p2717h grey lines all over monitor?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2018 11:12 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have a Dell p2717h computer monitor, and if I connect it via DisplayPort I get a grey screen with horizontal lines, but if I restart it a couple of times it will start working again.

If I connect it with HDMI it will work maybe 9 out of 10 times, and sometimes I get the same problem until I restart the monitor.

Is it the power supply or the main board that is bad? Or can it be software-related?

It happens on another computer too, so it is not the computer that is bad.

Here are two bad pictures showing the problem:

    https://imgur.com/a/cLybAmu

Kind of hard to see, much easier to see when you have something with color showing (it shows up grayscale with lines).

    Android filesystem help...

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 02:39 AM PDT

Recently attempted to delete guest account on Galaxy Note 4 to save some space. This caused the system UI to fail, now will not allow me to get past the lock screen. I have attempted to reflash the system ROM yet that has done nothing.

If someone could point me to the proper files pertaining to multi accounts to delete or restore, I have backups I can import. This is for a Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910C) running ERobot 35 (this is irrelevant as the file system is unchanged).

How can I change monitor 2 to become monitor 1?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2018 03:18 PM PDT

I'm not talking about dragging it or setting it to primary but actually changing the number assigned to the displays. My monitor 1 is the TV which uses HDMI while my actual desktop monitor is 2 and uses VGA. When I windows key + P and set the option to pc screen only, the TV is chosen when I want the monitor. When I elect second screen only, then my PC screen turns on.

Is there a way to actually switch the numbers assigned to each monitor/tv so when I select "PC screen only" it is actually the PC screen and not the TV?

Internet problems only with internet browsers

    Posted: 11 Sep 2018 10:37 PM PDT

Starting a few days ago, every few minutes, my internet will wonk out for a little bit, then fix itself after like 3 minutes or as soon as I unplug my wifi adapter and plug it back in. Pages will continuously try to load until the connection fixes itself, and YouTube will stop loading the video I'm watching, but I can't refresh it because the page won't load afterwards. Basically this is an issue I only have with browsers, Discord and games seem to work fine. It happens on both Chrome and Edge. Any suggestions to fix this would be great!

I'm using Windows 10, and an ANEWKODI wifi adapter.
