My old-school point & click adventure games recommendation list Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:34 PM PDT If there was one thing that could make already magnificent point & click adventure games even better - that would be you actually pointing and clicking with your finger on the screen, instead of using the mouse. And it did happen with the rise of the touchscreen phones and tablets, many developers saw it as a perfect natural platform for this kind of games and Android got it's fair share of them, a cocktail of old generation ports, current gen ports and exclusives. Now, when they hear "point & click adventure game", I imagine most of the younger folks think of Telltale Games. It is true, those games really fall under the genre, and most of them are really, really good, but compared to the old-school ones, they are more like interactive movies than a proper games, since they don't share the mechanics. There isn't much of those "old-schools" in the Android library, and feel like they, for some reason, don't get much love or the appreciation they surely deserve, so I thought I'd share the list of my personal favorites. I strongly believe each and every one of this games is worth of your time and money.   Broken Sword series A no-brainer. At this moment, available games are Broken Sword - The Shadow of Templairs, Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror and Broken Sword 5 - The Serpent's Curse (split into Episode 1 and Episode 2). The reason why number 3 and 4 are missing is because Revolution Software went 3D with the third game, so they haven't been ported. The fifth game was funded through Kickstarter and returned to it's glory 2D roots. Even though the the core setting is connected, you can consider them stand-alone, since you won't lose anything of the plot if you haven't played them in order. The story (of the first game) follows two protagonists, a French journalist Nicole Collard and an American tourist George Stobbart, as they meet through a strange case of assassination and terrorist bomb attacks in Paris and team up in order to unravel the conspiracy that reaches back to the days of Templars and Assassins in the Holy Land.   Blackwell series At this moment, there are three games available, Blackwell - Legacy, Blackwell 2 - Unbound and Blackwell 3 - Convergence. In total, there are five games, but number 4 and 5 haven't been ported to Android (and they might never be, since the creator Dave Gilbert said the porting is too expensive for the time being). Again, all of them are connected through the core, the second one acting like a prequel to the first, but you can play them in any order you want, since you won't lose anything of the plot. The story follows the adventures of a writer Rosangela Blackwell (or her aunt Lauren Blackwell in the prequel) and the... ghost... of Joey Mallone, a former tailor. When her apparently trouble-minded aunt dies, Rosangela Blackwell starts feeling the presence of some strange paranormal activity around her. She meets Joey, a ghost only she can see or hear, and learns that he is a "legacy" of the Blackwell family, as both her aunt and her grandmother worked with him. He tells her that she is a medium and her job is to help the lost souls who got stuck in the real world find their way to the other side.   Kathy Rain Set in the year of 1995, the story follows Kathy Rain, a college student and something of a tough girl since she rides a motorcycle and chain smokes. After another night of heavy drinking, she returns to her room only to find out that her beloved (and estranged) grandfather died and decides to go back to her hometown for the funeral. Her grandmother tells her about the mystery surrounding her late grandfather's death and Kathy decides to unravel it.   Syberia series One of the gems of the sunset on the adventure games era, ported from the PC. There are two games, Syberia and Syberia 2. They are strongly connected, being the two halves of a single story, so it's recommended for you to play them in order. American lawyer Kate Walker travels to the charming French village of Valadilene in order to finalize the take-over deal between her company and the toy factory, expecting to return home shortly, but the unexpected events take her on a life journey and emotional roller coaster through friendship, love, ambition and trust all the way to the Syberia. If you tear up at the end, don't be ashamed, many men have.   ScummVM emulator This application is made in order to emulate old adventure games of the golden 90s era. If you want to know more about the time when adventure games were mainstream, obvious picks are Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Sam and Max - Hit the Road, The Dig, Loom...   Other games, all of them great. Some other adventurehead might have even picked a totally different top five, or even some others that I didn't mention. Anyway, also worth of your time and money, in no particular order: Silent Age Thimbleweed Park Simon the Sorcerer (I and II) Gemini Rue Grim Fandango Machinarium Shivah Gabriel Knight - Sins of Fathers Broken Age Valiant Hearts - The Great War The Cave Oxenfree Leisure Suit Larry - Reloaded   And there's more! submitted by /u/MagmaDanger [link] [comments]
