Razer Blade 15 1060 vs 1070 thermals? Posted: 28 Aug 2018 08:33 AM PDT Most of the reviews I've seen for the Blade 15 are for the 1070 maxQ version, with the consensus being that it runs pretty decently hot even despite undervolting. Since I plan on dropping ~4k AUD on a laptop I would expect it to last 4-5 years (like my 2011 13" mbp which has only JUST started showing its age), and thermals seem to be the biggest factor that would affect the longevity. My question is, would the 1060 maxQ version (144hz) have a better time handling the thermals of the components under load than the 1070 version? followup questions: Am I better off just opting for the msi G65 (1070)? I have a beast desktop PC, so this laptop would mostly be for travelling, mobile gaming (overwatch, WoW, HotS) & music production. The RB15 just seems a lot sturdier than the G65 & I'm not the most careful with my laptops (but not terrible), so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of performance if I can have something with a good build quality & a decent thermal solution. Coming from a macbook pro, being able to play vidya at a friend's place again would be amazing. Would appreciate any answers / opinions / perspectives. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2018 10:06 AM PDT I'm thinking of getting the Acer Swift 1 for university, which has 4GB of DDR4. Will this be enough for tasks like web browsing and Microsoft office, maybe at the same time? [link] [comments]
Looking for PC equivalents for Macbook Air / Macbook Pro Posted: 28 Aug 2018 07:11 AM PDT So my wife really wants a new laptop. She's a fan of the apple ecosystem. I'm not a fan of the apple prices. Her main goal with a laptop is typical browsing and some image editing ( lightroom and photoshop ). I know for a fact you can get same / better specs on a non mac for a cheaper price, but I want to come to the table with some solid examples. So, does anyone have any specific links to laptops that compare spec-wise with a macbook air and also a macbook pro if we want to get really fancy? I can punch in some specs in to amazon and get some results but wondering if any of you have a preference. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Is it worth trying to get an after-market battery? Posted: 28 Aug 2018 12:59 PM PDT Just wanted some opinions on what to do. I have a 5 year old asus n56vz. It's got a i7 3610QM, 12 gigs of DDR3, 1080p screen, GeForce 635M 2gigs. So my laptop is working...okay. The specs I personally think are okay enough to not upgrade to a new laptop right now; it pretty much just needs an SSD. I'm waiting for prices to drop on thunderbolt 3 laptops so I can eventually get a eGPU setup in a couple of years. My problem is with battery life. This thing dies in an hour. When I'm trying to code side projects in a cafe as I find myself doing more frequently, it's inconvenient to be able to only go to ones with chargers. The only replacement batteries that I've seen are from "Batt Depot" and the reviews are kind of iffy. http://www.battdepot.com/ca/search/model/asus/N56VZ.aspx?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIy7-D3sOQ3QIVTL7ACh1RtQJBEAAYAyAAEgLdEfD_BwE Has anyone had any success with this company/have an idea of where else I can look? Or should I just swallow the cost of a new laptop even though this old has has decent specs. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2018 12:49 PM PDT Had the ACER Aspire 15 for a year. After four laptops with bad hinges, Amazon finally accepted a flat out return. I purchased this at Newegg: HP Laptop Pavilion 15-cc611ds Terrific laptop but with two issues: Backlit keyboard is either on or off. Is there a way to get it to turn off after a certain time of no typing like Acer did? Fan is noisy. I may return it and look for something else - fanless. [link] [comments]
Aero 15X v8: what's the minimum software which needs to be re-installed for keyboard/fan control? Posted: 28 Aug 2018 12:45 PM PDT I got my aero yesterday and performed a clean re-install of the OS/drivers wiping everything that was there previously. Things work fine now but I've lost the ability to control keyboard (Fn + function key items) and fan control (SpeedFan does not detect any control capability). What's the minimum amount of Giga-junk I need to reinstall to get those back? I think I need Gigabyte Fusion for the keyboard and the Smart Manager thing for fan. I'm not interested in using anything except the white backlight, just need the Fn keys back (though I don't care much really). Will any of those require me to opt into the Data Collection nonsense they have going on or otherwise 'bloat' the system? [link] [comments]
Trying to figure out sale price on my laptop. Please help Posted: 28 Aug 2018 12:44 PM PDT Hi! My laptop is a 2014 Asus Republic of Gamers laptop with an intel i7 core and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880m graphics card. The model number is G760JZ-DS71. It has 24 GB of RAM and a TB of storage. The battery is fried, so I have to leave it plugged in. What would I be able to get for it from anywhere? Not thinking about trading it any time soon, but for when I need something more mobile, it's a consideration. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Aug 2018 07:48 PM PDT A bit about myself. I have been a MBP user for a long time. I decided to switch to PC & windows laptops due to work requirement. The raw power sure is not on the same level as any mac. I want a laptop with decent battery life, thin-bezel, portable, decent cpu and gpu. After a lot of research, I decided to get the AERO 15 with 1060, 7700HQ. BUILD QUALITY at first sight No where near a mbp, but it is decent considering it uses so much plastic. It does not feel cheap. I was very happy overall. EXPERIENCE Maybe I was not lucky. I bought it in Oct 2017. Since then, I have had sooooooo many issues with the unit. 1. left side fan noise. (it is gone after a few months, interesting) 2. battery issue (the laptop suddenly blacks out at 60% battery. After a full charge, once unplugged, it will only lasts for 20min. It blacks out in a way just like you pull the plug on a desktop) I tried to contact gigabyte customer service, here comes the nightmare. It takes them at least 2 days to respond to my question & problem. When they respond, they ask more details about the unit instead of refering to RMA. It is just ridiculous. In the end, I took the laptop to gigabyte China branch and did a walk-in (I was on a trip to China). It took 2days in total to get it repaired. They replaced the battery and the mobo. Problems keep coming. 1. Right now, the laptop right side fan makes a loud clicky noise. Sounds like something is unbalanced. 2. The display flickers like crazy while under heavy load running 3d modeling/rendering programs. Now I am trying to reach gigabyte and getting this repaired. Annnnnnnd, I just learned their service center is located in California (I am on east coast). I also learned that I need to pay for the shipping to their service center. WTF???? Why am I supposed to pay since the product is bad???? I had a Dell monitor with dead pixels, they send in the replacement within two days free of charge. I had a blackberry keyone sent back with prepaid labels. I do not wish to bash a brand. I still do think AERO 15 is a very special laptop. However, the customer service is one of the worst I have ever experienced. I should have considered those warnings about the below average customer service before making the purchase. Now I am just one of those who are suffering... [link] [comments]

I've been looking at the Asus Zenbook 3 Deluxe (https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ASUS-ZenBook-3-Deluxe-UX490UA/wheretobuy/) but I've also read it's pretty pricey and the battery life isn't good. Also, it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card but I'm not sure if I need that? Any suggestions are appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2018 05:35 AM PDT I'm new to the whole gaming laptop thing and I can't help myself better than ask this here: I'm planning to buy a Aero 15X and found one from a private seller. Whats confusing me is that the Model Name on the packaging is 15-X8. Is this some downgraded version of the 15X? Via googel I can only find 15Xv8 (is this the same?). I just dont want to spend so much money and get something wrong. Do you think 1800 € is a good price? Specs: Display: 15.6 FHD IPS Graphics: 1070 8 GB CPU: i7-8750H Memory: DDR4-25666 16GB, Storage: M.2(PCle) SSD 512G O/S: Win10 Pro Thanks to everyone who shares his/her opinion with me. Acer aspire e 15 touchpad issues Posted: 28 Aug 2018 08:36 AM PDT I bought the i5 mx150 version, really like this laptop but I looked and looked, reinstalled everything possible but the issue remains. Seems like there is a ghost next to me holding his finger down on the trackpad while I am trying to do something. It doesn't happen often but when it does the only thing that fixes it is a restart. It has window precision driver and everything is being reported as working fine. This is causing me to return the laptop but I have yet to see anyone else with this issue on this model whether it be YouTube or online. Anyone else experience this? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Aug 2018 06:35 AM PDT i want to buy a new laptop as my current one is become very slow and a pain to use. i will mainly be using the new laptop to do photo editing and some light gaming along with school work and media consumption. my price range is around 500-600 pounds i am willing to go used as it seems that there is a lot of value in some of the older laptops. Posted: 28 Aug 2018 05:48 AM PDT I don't play video games or stream movies or music, the only things that I use a computer for are browsing and to scan film negatives and typewritten documents into my tape drive. I plan on using a Linux "distro" that takes up low memory, like Ubuntu MATE, Puppy Linux or Lubuntu as my operating system. I have found this model completely refurbished (2010 ThinkPad T410) for an extremely low price and I am considering purchasing it as opposed to a newer used computer, with all that I've mentioned in mind is there any other reason that I shouldn't purchase this machine?
