Will my phone model work for me? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 02:20 PM PDT Hello all, I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S8+ model number SM-G955U and I've loved it since purchase, unfortunately due to a fall the screen is cracked and has started flickering. I'm searching for replacements and I came across a Factory Unlocked, Dual-Sim version. Model number SM-G955FD. Will this version work for me? I'm on Cricket Wireless, a GSM network in the U.S. My understanding is that this model will work just like a standard unlocked phone, but also be able to work internationally. Is this correct? Thank you for any help! [link] [comments] |
RIP "Priority Mode" and settings apps to Override Do Not Disturb Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:52 PM PDT Android P removed "priority mode" which seems to also mean you can't set apps to override "Do Not Disturb". This has been a core function for me. Example: no matter what I want to know if someone has broken into my house. I used to have my alarm app override DND but that function seems to have been removed with Android P... Am I missing something or am I just SOL? [link] [comments] |
Is the Android 9 dark theme broken or am I missing something? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 01:14 PM PDT One of the things I was most excited about in 9 was the ability to manually toggle a dark theme so that my quick settings would stop searing my eyeballs. Since installing the update on my Pixel 2 yesterday I can't get it to actually work though. I've done everything described here -- Settings->Display->Advanced->Device Theme->Dark. That seems pretty straightforward but setting it to Dark doesn't change anything. I've restarted the phone several times just in case but still nothing. I do use Nova Launcher so I wouldn't expect it to affect my app drawer but I've tried making the Google Launcher my default and it doesn't help anything either. I'm not rooted or doing anything else crazy to my phone, it's about as stock as it gets. No other theming apps or anything like that. Am I missing something other than this seemingly-obvious setting that you need to do to get the Dark theme to apply? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Edit: here's a screenshot where you can see the theme is set to dark but the quick settings are still white: https://imgur.com/a/gEKma13 Edit 2: I got it working! See the steps here if the same thing happens to you: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidquestions/comments/95plsk/_/e3v6azc [link] [comments] |
Turn Airplane mode on while connected to WiFi Posted: 08 Aug 2018 05:57 PM PDT Device: Samsung Galaxy S9 (Exynos) (unlocked) Carrier: 2degrees (new zealand) I was wondering if there was a way that I could have my phone ENABLE Airplane mode while connected to WiFi automatically. Because it has WiFi calling functionality I can make/send/receive calls/texts on WiFi essentially making cellular useless while connected to the internet. I wonder if this is possible because where I live I receive pretty poor cellular service and it's partly why my battery is running out semi-faster than it should be on normal cellular conditions. Edit: I forgot to mention i want this to happen automatically. Edit2: disregard that last edit^ im dumb thank :) [link] [comments] |
Phone's battery indicator was stuck at 50%, let it drain, now it only boots when plugged in Posted: 08 Aug 2018 05:40 PM PDT I've been using an XZ1 Compact since last year, but decided to drag my Pixel 1 out of the closet to try Android Pie. Installed Pie, and noticed that the battery indicator was stuck at 50%. (I'm not sure if this happened before or after installing Pie.) Seems to hold a normal charge, indicates charging when I plug it in, and worked normally until I did what I described below, but always at 50. From Googling, it seems I may need to disassemble the phone and clean the battery connector, but after looking at Youtube videos on how to do that, there's no fucking way I'm going to do that without breaking something :P A random forum post said letting the battery drain and then fully charging up might reset it, so I did that. Now the phone only powers on and stays on when plugged in. Otherwise, if I try to boot it up, I get the battery icon and it shuts back down. If I boot it up and then unplug it, it powers off after 5-10 seconds. It still indicates charging when plugged in though. So, might there be anything I can do that doesn't involve me taking apart the phone? [link] [comments] |

Snoozing notification not working on Android P? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:18 PM PDT I updated to android P yesterday and I used to be able to snooze notification for a certain amount of time by swiping the notification left or right and choose the snooze option. Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:47 PM PDT Hello, I am having an issue and I can't find the correct solution to this. My phone says that my IMEI is invalid, I have tried resetting it, deleting the cache, going into engineering mode but the cds option was disabled, and for some reason I can't connect to Maui Meta Tool. I am able to get calls and texts but no data or sms. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
No fast charging since Pie installed. 0G Pixel XL Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:41 PM PDT Since the lastest OS update to Pie yesterday evening my 0G Pixel XL will not fast charge. I've restarted, powered off, used different cords and plugs...nothing. I can use the standard cord and plug and it will charge at regular speed.. I'm at a loss. Suggestions? [link] [comments] |
What are the default Samsung wallpapers called in terms of their style? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:15 PM PDT I really really like the look and polish of those default Samsung ones with a curve, and I was hoping to find some similar ones, but I don't know where to look or search. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2018 01:43 PM PDT I just received my OTA Android P update for my Pixel 2 XL, however I was wondering if it's a better option to go through the trouble of downloading a factory image? Will this increase the performance? In my mind, I think that flashing will result in a clean install, vs OTA which will result into a messy install of a new system overlay-ed on top of the old one? I need Help with Using the Gameloft Store. Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:11 PM PDT So I got a Samsung Tab A and was going to download some apps off the Gameloft store because they have a lot of there old games only available off it. But when I click the link to bring me their a strange screen pops up that asks me to Pick my provider and mine is not even listed. If I select one it just brings me to a flash game website that looks like it has not been updated since 2009. Can Anyone with a android tablet help me out here? http://www.gameloft.com/central/guide/top-games-gameloft-store/ Here is a list to a news post that provides links to the gameloft store, when I click them on my computer I just get brought to their website and when I do so on my Iphone it lists some games that just open up the app store, most are not on the appstore anymore and bring up dead links. I dunno what could be doing this and I can find almost no info about the gameloft store anywhere on the internet. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Help adding School Email to Accounts Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:51 AM PDT Hi everybody, I just got an Android S8, about a week ago and I'm having trouble adding my old school account to the phone. I still use my university account because it has a generous google drive capacity. The issue that I am having is that when I try to log in to the school account, the window opens up the email in browser but doesnt save it to my phone. So here's what happens
So that the gist of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: I contacted the school's IT department. Apparently I'm not the only one this is happening to. They told me to just sit tight and they'll get back to me [link] [comments] |
Automatically play music when connect to car Posted: 08 Aug 2018 05:21 PM PDT When I turn my phone bluetooth on and it connects to my car radio I have to open the media player and select a playlist. Is it possible for it to just automatically open the player on connection and play the last playlist? I can do this by keeping bluetooth on my phone but I'd rather turn it off when not in use which is when I'm not driving. Stock Samsung Music player if it matters. Note 8 Verizon [link] [comments] |
Has the lockscreen camera shortcut been removed with Android 9? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:04 PM PDT I can't find any info on this anywhere. There used to be a camera shortcut on the lockscreen but I've either changed a setting or it is gone with the latest update. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2018 08:39 PM PDT Hey Im currently running Android 9.0 P, the official OTA update from Monday and I am having the same problem with Snapchat since Android 8.0 (with May's security patch). I 'm using the Google Pixel XL (2016) 32GB version and SnapChat decides to "automatically" turnoff my device when I use it and when im about 45% battery life or less. The same happened when I was on Oreo, but when I was at 20% or less battery. The phone wont turn back on (past the Google load screen) until I plug it into the wall or car charger. And when it turns on again it still shows that my phone still had battery left. I remember during Oreo the same will happen if I used the Camera app too, so I guess when it reaches a certain percent camera heavy apps wont work and forces it to shut down. I have also tried to uninstall and re download the app, even clear is cache but the same issue comes back again. I dont know if its Snapchat, my phone or the latest Android software that is causing this issue. I've contact Google's support team and I didn't get any solutions that can fix this issue. If anyone knows how to fix this that would be super cooooool. I honestly cant wait to upgrade to the Note 9 or switch over to the new iPhone in the fall. After this experience I dont plan on getting a Pixel ever again, the battery life is terrible after year one. Its like Google does this on purpose and forces you to upgrade. I came from the S6 Edge to Note 7, and after the Note 7 fiasco I had to give back the Note 7 in exchange for a new phone and the Pixel was brand new at the time. It was good for the first year until the 8.0 upgrade. I hope Google does make a "good phone" that will last two years. I know this is a long post but anything helps !! Thank you Android Community !! Navigation Soft Keys Misaligned Posted: 08 Aug 2018 08:35 PM PDT Ever since I upgraded my Moto Z Play to Android 8.0, the navigation soft keys are always misaligned, whether it be vertically, horizontally, or both. It's quite annoying; is there any remedy? [link] [comments] |
S health vs G fit: Accuracy (And step counter-related questions) Posted: 08 Aug 2018 10:28 AM PDT I have been using both of the apps for some time now, but I'm not sure which one to count on more. They both have the same height/weight registered, but g fit counts 70% more steps. Which one should I count on more? Many smartphones include "step counter" as one of their sensors in their spesificatons, alongside accelerometer. There is also that "body sensors" permission that both apps require (I know for a fact that apps can know when the the phone moves without that permission) So, if there is a central step counter that apps get the stepping information from, does the height/weight set in the app even matter? How in the entire universe can they show different step counts then? Someone explain? [link] [comments] |

Need help accessing data from my P8 Lite backup (EMUI) Posted: 08 Aug 2018 01:43 PM PDT Hi guys, So long story short I went to a festival and my (P8 Lite) phone (mainly the screen) became completely unusable. I had made a backup prior to it dying on me and I have the backup on my computer as we speak. Only problem is I can't access the data unless I use the restore function and I don't have a Huawei or EMUI device to do that from. I'm mostly interested in keeping my contacts and some app data I had backed up. Can anyone please help me out? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2018 03:31 PM PDT Hi All, I'm seriously considering escaping from the walled garden that is Apple and moving over to Android devices. I currently own an iPhone X and I'm looking to purchase a OnePlus 6 at some point. Could anyone provide some suggestions whether this is a good device to start from or recommend another good device. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Newbie confused about Android One Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:47 PM PDT All, having trouble finding a clear explanation on this and hoping the community can clear it up for me. Am I right in thinking that Android One is an initiative that assists hardware manufacturers delivery a fully working, vanilla Android OS to their phones? In other words, if you buy an Android One phone (like the new Nokia phones) now that Pie is out, it's simply a matter of checking for updates and getting it (like i did yesterday on my Pixel 2 XL)? Or, put a slightly different way, there's no code branch/difference between release of Pie that i can put on my Pixel 2 XL compared with an Android One phone? I still read some things that make me feel like it's a version/flavour that's different. Confused... [link] [comments] |
