Got new neighbors around the same time wifi slowed down... Today I got this alert? Posted: 31 Jul 2018 08:53 PM PDT Our internet has been great for years, but we just got new neighbors and suddenly our wifi went to crap. Had the cable guy came out and look at it but it didn't help much. I noticed when I cast YouTube/netflix to my tv we have several new options that are my neighbors. I know that casting devices sometimes have their own networks and I can cast to them without having to be on their wifi. But this today seemed strange. I downloaded an app to see if any extra devices were on the ip and I didn't see anything. But im still not 100% sure. I just don't know how they would have gotten on to our locked network. Trouble changing graphics card Posted: 31 Jul 2018 08:02 AM PDT Hey, I've been trying to replace my NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 with a GTX 1050 ti but I've stumbled upon a problem I'm unable to solve on my own. So as far as I'm concerned the new graphics card is compatible with my motherboard but as I was trying to replace it that sure didn't seem that way. When I try to put in my new graphics card it doesn't seem to fit because there is a small gap in the connector(or whatever it is called) . I've tried to illustrate it to the best of my abilities: https://imgur.com/gallery/aDqzPbB Im not the most tech savvy guy so I thought i'd ask here because the people over on r/lowendgaming have been helping me out so much I thought I'd give them a break. Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:18 AM PDT Hey all! This seems to be a common theme and I have read everything I've found on the issue, but I still have not solved my problem. Issue: Cannot connect to the internet - DNS Server not responding Tested fixes: 1. /flushdns, /registerdns, /release, /renew, winsock reset, int ip reset 2. Reboots of both router and PC ad infinitum 3. Manually changing DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) 4. Disabling all other connections 5. Disabling anti-virus (Avast and Windows firewall/defender) Details/fun facts: 1. Connection is through WiFi (Netgear 6100) 2. PC CAN connect to phone's hotspot 3. Phone CAN connect to wireless router 4. PC can't connect to wireless router 5. I have the same problem with two routers, so it seems it is on my PC's side but it does not seem to be the network card since I can connect to the hotspot. Specs: Windows 10 Netgear 6100 Sagemcom 3686 I am really at my wits end here... Best of all is that the problem seems to be intermittent, i.e. sometimes it just decides to work but most of the time it doesn't. Any and all help appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Are my "default" NoScript settings correct if safety and privacy are the priority? Posted: 31 Jul 2018 06:54 PM PDT Hello. Posted: 01 Aug 2018 04:20 AM PDT Hello Reddit, so ill tell you a story so you can get a insight into what is going on or what might be wrong. Yesterday 31 of july I sat gaming just fine no issues, then I decided to turn off my pc and go watch some series. I returned and wanted to play some pubg with my friends, i go into the main screen no issues here but then when its loading into the pre game lobby it crashes saying "Low memory" so i try to fix it and see if it happens with any other game. It does, it happens with every game now. So i look it up on the internet people saying try open task manager and see if something is consuming your memory, well i cant even open task manager, i can just hear this error sound everytime i try to click. I try updating my drivers but then the error msg comes up saying it cant find the right path or that i might not have permission to it. tho its late night i go to bed hoping it was some launch up error. wake up next day, Same thing. I call the guys who i bought my pc from and they say i should try reboot it, okay ill give it a shot, well again nothing happens. They tell me to hold SHIFT and click on restart so i can go around it. Clicks reset something happens and then it says the action cant be completed right now or that i might not have permission. So they tell me to send it into them (which i have planned now, but my pc is still at my place for a couple of days) So have any of you had this problem or know a fix so i dont have to drive a long way and wait for my pc to get back. Sorry for bad grammar. [link] [comments] |

Made a dumb mistake, have a question Posted: 01 Aug 2018 04:15 AM PDT So, i made a really stupid mistake and jammed an sd card adapter into my laptop and I can't get it out. It doesn't have an sd card in it, just wanted to test it. Now, I've tried getting it out but I just can't and I don't want to mess up anything. My question is, are there any consequences in just leaving it in the slot, considering it's not probably mounted in there (I can use outer sd card adapters, not a big deal). Bit ashamed of my mistake, but hopefully not a big deal. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2018 12:26 AM PDT Hello, I am trying really hard to debug a POST issue that I am experiencing. I will try to detail the entire history of the issue and what I have tried so far, hopefully someone can give me some hints (or validate) on what could be wrong. I built my PC somewhere around Winter 2015 and it worked fine 99% of the time. I recently had to replace its PSU (November 2017) due to my old one starting to smell like burnt... These are the current specs of my PC:
Also, I do not actually have a beeper/buzzer on my Motherboard. I just ordered one... They seem to be useful in situations like these. This is what happened: On Thursday night (July 26th) there was a power outage in my building and, at that time, my PC was put to Sleep. Power came back several hours into the night and the PC was OFF when power came back on. In the morning, I left it as it was and went to work. Came back from work, tried to boot it up. Something to note, that might be relevant is that, from the first day I had the PC, it had trouble booting up on the first press of the power button - as in, it would turn on the LEDs and fans, spin a bit and then turn off. I would press again and everything would be fine. Going back to the story, I came back from work and tried to boot it. It replicated the scenario I just described, but I thought it was normal. Tried booting up again, this time the LEDs on my mouse & keyboard turned on but nothing on the screen. It stayed like this for a bit, I turned it off. I did this several times until one time when, after a long time in this state (nothing on screen, LEDs on mouse & keyboard on) it finally showed the Windows logo and started booting. I used it the entire weekend and it worked fine (games, programming, etc.). I rarely shut it down, and this was also the case during the weekend, when I was just putting it to sleep. Today, I came from work, woke up the PC and started a game. Everything seemed fine until I got a BSOD with this error code Here is what I tried and what results I got so far:
I have no idea what is causing this... If anyone has any hints, please let me know. Tomorrow I will try to bring a PSU from work and try to boot up the PC with that PSU... if that works fine, then I know that the PSU is faulty (I would be really pissed off but relieved that the MB and the rest are healthy at least). If that is still not making the PC boot up, I will probably need to get a new MB? Thanks a lot for your time reading all of this and for any suggestions! UPDATE 1: I have been playing around with connecting the SSDs and HDD to the motherboard and seeing how this affects the situation. I noticed that right now, by not connecting any storage device, I can get to UEFI with somewhat of a delay, but it gets there every time. Then I started plugging one of the SSDs into various SATA ports on the mb. I did not have any success until I got to one of the SSDs that, after being plugged in, made the PC boot and displaying the message that I need to pick a bootable device (sure, this SSD probably wasn't the one with my Windows installation). I then picked the other SSD and picked one of the SATA ports I haven't used before. After ~1 minute, I saw Windows booting. I then tried a soft restart (from Start Menu) and this was super fast. I then did a cold boot (Start Menu -> Shut down and then power on from the button) and it doesn't boot anymore, again. Without knowing much of what's going on at the motherboard level during a cold boot, in terms of accessing the SATA connectors, it seems that on cold boot something is messing up its reading from the storage devices... and this is delaying the boot. Sometimes this completely fails and I never end up booting. But sometimes, when I am lucky, it takes several tens of seconds but eventually it boots up and Windows works normall (or, probably, until the next [link] [comments] |
Notebook Acer 7551g won't install Operating System. Posted: 01 Aug 2018 04:08 AM PDT I have this laptop where his hdd is damaged, it became very slow and when i try to do a chkdisk on it, it says many times unable to read sectors; so I suppose it's damaged. So after that i tried to install a new hard disk, but whenever i try to do a clean install of windows 10 or windows 7 from a usb-drive the pc recognize it and it starts the initialization, the installation also recognize the new hard disk, and starts also to transfer the file to it, after it finished of course it says that installation will continue after the reboot; but after that it looks like the computer not recognize the operating system since it says "no operating system installed" and keeps trying to boot again from the usb drive to start the installation again. I tried so many times to do it but without any results: i tried to change the sata connection from ahci to ide but it doesn't fixed (and there is no option about uefi since it's an old notebook). The pc just starts with the old hdd damaged. Now i think i will try to download the win 7 iso and trying to boot it from a cd this time. What do you think is the cause of this? What can i do? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Computer fails to boot, fans spin Posted: 01 Aug 2018 12:21 AM PDT Hi, From what I read this seems to be a pretty common problem and most sources say that you should change your psu. However I bought a new one and I still get this problem. The computer gets power in it and the lights go off, fans spin a bit, but then it just shuts down. After I remove the power cord and put it back in it works again. I'm thinking it could be my ssd, cpu or motherboard but i'm no expert. So here I am asking you guys, any ideas or help on what could this be? [link] [comments] |
BCD error and no recovery media? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 12:19 AM PDT Hey, so I just restarted my PC and received an error message detailing
I just moved out for college and don't have any recovery or installation media with me and I can't contact the manufacturer's because I built the PC. Is there anything I can do? I can access BIOS by rebooting with ctrl+alt+delete and pressing F2 in startup but I can't think of anything useful there. The other options in startup are Instant Flash and Boot Menu but switching the drive to boot from doesn't change anything and I'm not sure what instant flash does. Any advice would be appreciated. Specific keys not working on MacBook Pro (2017) Posted: 01 Aug 2018 12:12 AM PDT Hey everyone, I have specific keys on my computer that don't work, despite several resets (OS reinstall, SMC reset, Safe mode) but nothing. The weird thing is that the keys work just fine when logging in, but not anywhere else. I had a chat with Apple Support who took me through the same resets again, and then said it was a hardware issue. So I took it into a repair shop; got it back today and the issue persists, despite them saying it passed Apple diagnostics and some kind of keyboard test. Does anyone have any solutions/suggestions? Much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Hard Drive Failing or Malware? [REALLY NEED HELP PLS] Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:57 AM PDT So I started my PC this morning after leaving it off yesterday while running around the city. I'd left my drawing tablet plugged in so its control centre app opened up as it does when it's plugged in. I started all the stuff I use every day, Steam, Chrome, Discord and Teamspeak. Everything seemed fine until...! Chrome randomly shut down on me. I was watching a Youtube video, I had a few tabs open, I went to open a new tab and it just shut off. The process in Task Manager was gone with the exception of two Google Chrome processes, it'd just shut down and I don't know why. I ran a MalwareBytes scan and it came up clean, but I'm not trusting it anymore. Windows Update's running in the background the now, probably because there's an update, and it doesn't seem to be screwed right now. HOWEVER! I opened up the Google Chrome process properties through Task Manager, scrolled along to Security and I found a bunch of weird profiles! We have: ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES Account Unknown (S-1-15-3-1024) then a bunch of numbers Account Unknown (S-1-15-3-1024) then a bunch of different numbers. Now I've never seen these before, not that I've looked. I don't know what the hell's caused them to show up. They all have the permissions to Read & Execute and Read. I'm starting to worry something's infected my PC, which is strange because the last thing I downloaded was... I can't even remember. I never download sketchy programs or .zip files, I never go on sketchy websites and I use Ublock in fear of bad ads. On top of all this my hard drive has been acting shit for months now. If I'm playing Elite Dangerous and I tab out to do something on Chrome, when I type the whole browser will freeze for at least a minute. I have to wait about three to four minutes before I can actually type anything! Everything loads super slow these days, browsing files on my PC means I have to wait for a folder to populate before I can do anything. Startup is slow as hell too! I don't even have much on autostart, just utilities my PC uses like AI Suite, Roccat mouse settings thing, EZUpdate, Nvidia Geforce driver stuff and Elgato Sound Capture. Everything else I use I open myself after startup. Some days it takes ages for utilities to open, it'll take up to ten minutes, some days it's snappy. I've had RAM and driver related BSOD's, I ran some Command Prompt scan thing ages ago that said Windows had some corrupt files but they couldn't be fixed, my keyboard software can't update properly for some reason, the other day the Windows Store wouldn't work properly, I can't play certain games anymore because they take so long to load, Overwatch doesn't load characters, skins, textures, GTA V stutters insanely, Fallout 4 doesn't like loading areas ahead of where I'm going. I know for a fact my PC's slowly been getting worse. I reinstalled Windows in 2016, but I left it because I was stupid and thought it was broken when it was fine. I reinstalled because I had issues in the year, crashes, slow performance, BSOD's, ultimately leading to a Command Prompt opening randomly one day with no input from me and the reinstall. When I first built this PC I had issues installing anything because Windows itself didn't install properly! It left out a few vital files for programs to run so I couldn't launch Origin or anything that used those files. I believe this has been my hard drive the entire time I've had this PC, but I'm not sure. What I do know is I'll be buying a new hard drive, backing up my files and reinstalling everything to the new drive when it comes. I have an SSD in my PC now, but it's a secondary drive I installed Overwatch and GTA to so I can actually play them, I know my hard drive is the reason they don't run properly. Just got my first headphone amplifier and I can't get it to work Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:56 AM PDT Hi! I'd like to start off by saying that I'm a complete newbie when it comes to amps and other audio related stuff, I'm not very experienced. So, I've got a Samson QH4 and I can't get it working. I've plugged an aux from my PC to the amplifier 'aux out' on the back, and then I've got my headphones in the front to a quarter inch headphone jack. I've tried using multiple AUX cables and the headphones are not at fault, they do work when plugged directly into the PC. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

My laptop stopped working for seemingly no reason, even BIOS won't come up. Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:27 AM PDT Yesterday it was working just fine, this morning nothing happens when I press the power button. I tried booting without the battery, I even tried another adapter (I have 2 of the same laptop), it still doesn't work. Normally, when I plug the adapter in, a LED would shine, now that doesn't happen as well. Could this be a motherboard issue? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Help! Can't install latest GPU drivers on Windows 10 (both with AMD & NVIDIA) Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:15 AM PDT I just moved to a Radeon Vega 64 from a GTX 1070 and I have the exact same problem I had before when installing GPU drivers on W10: when I was trying to install drivers with my 1070, the installer would take 20/30 mins to finish saying the installation failed. Now that I have the Vega 64, the Radeon installer does the same thing, so it's a Windows problem for sure. This started happening after some W10 update, but I can't remember which one. The problem persists when I try to install the same drivers from the Device Manager, it takes a long time and then fails to install them. I already tried using DDU and the AMD cleaner, and many other things. I don't know where to look anymore, so I contacted AMD support and I'm waiting for their reply... Both with the old card and this new one, I can install old drivers without troubles, like from Please help, I don't want to format my machine because of this... :( [link] [comments] |
Wi-Fi keeps keeps going to 0KB/S Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:14 AM PDT I recenty had to reset my PC and upgrade to the latest version of windows. Once I updated to the latest version of Windows my Wireless Wi-Fi driver would no longer activate (Killer Wireless-n/a/ac 1535 Wireless Network Adapter). I solved this by downloading the killer wireless uninstaller and the newest driver. My wireless driver is working now, but it is constantly slowing down, so once in a while I can't do anything and gaming is cumbersome af as well.. I can see in the MSI dragon gaming center that my Wi-Fi constantly goes from 0-80-250-500 bytes/sec, never standing still, super unstable. Some help solving this would be super appreciated! Help with keyboard layout on Laptop Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:06 AM PDT Hi, I purchased a laptop online from a German website and I missed the warning that the keyboard will be German layout (QWERTZ) even though they ship to non-German speaking countries. Granted, the problem is of my doing. Now I am looking for a solution because not all symbols match - I obviously changed the keyboard to UK english, but symbols like '(' and ')' are shifted one to the left on the German keyboard (so over buttons 8 and 9) and it's very confusing when typing as I look toward the keyboard for certain symbols and I press the button which shows ')' and I get '('. Is there a way to map what buttons print what symbol? Thank you I advance [link] [comments] |
