[REQUEST] What are the best non-root UI customization apps?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:31 AM PDT

[DEV] I want to make an app that can take or scan a picture of an animal, and then compare it to a set of pictures and 3d models. I want to use Unity for it. HOw difficult would it be?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:31 AM PDT

In unity, I will be using an AR kit that will scan the animal in question. After that, it would compare the scanned image to a reference pictures, where there would multiple transparent images in various angles. It would also compare the scan to a 3d model of the animal.

Besides Unity, are there any other powerful softwares or IDEs that can achieve the same thing?

take this app - Dog Scanner - into account. This app takes pictures, and tells the breed's details.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Google photos? Reimagining the way you view your photos with Curator

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:07 AM PDT

It's been nearly 5 months since I made the original post. Since then Curator has been updated and tested to finally bring you the Beta, and this announcement comes first to r/androidapps because this community has greatly helped me with my previous apps.

But before that, some links to Curator:

    [Feature Image](https://i.imgur.com/P4QVOyx.jpg)

    Get it now: Beta Link

    All Screenshots : Imgur

Curator is a gallery app that reinvents the wheel, but for a good reason.

Using Artificial Intelligence, Curator organises your images under various tags allowing you quickly search for anything. And the best part? It does it entirely offline, making this the first secure AI gallery. Your photos are yours, you'll never have to send them to the cloud.

In addition to the intelligence, Curator now makes some common tasks more intuitive with gestures that make it easier to move your photos around, scroll through photos and search. All with a simple UI and gesture based interface.

    CONTRIBUTE (This would really help)

I've currently set a 10,000$ contribution goal in order to invest into Curator by building more AI models that personalise curation for a personalised experience. This requires some hardware, translation services and some other people to help me. If you'd like to contribute, please slide open the drawer in the app and hit contribute or you can send bits to this address: 1AbYmMYNCfZ7zDmAfVJRH1q9zfKvZLekyv. Please message before you do send bits!

    TLDR;

Get your hands on the first AI gallery that curates your images entirely offline. Simple UI and Gestures (Check screenshots). Also read Play Store description for gestures. DOWNLOAD NOW!

Easter Egg: Maybe the last screenshot is something you've wanted.

    Important Note

This is Beta software, if it doesn't work please don't rate Curator just yet. I will improve and fix all issues that you face one at a time and we can get there.

Google Photos is lead by a team of engineers, designers and all kinds of people. On the other hand, I'm the only one responsible for the development of Curator. So your cooperation would be great!

Please read the description here, there are instructions for gestures and some important points that I hope you all adhere to.

[DEV] Twelveish - Watch face for Wear OS (first non-beta release!)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 08:37 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I have created and just released my first Wear OS (aka Android Wear) watch face. You can find it here.

    What is Twelveish?

It's a watch face that shows approximate time in words. For example, at 12:04 it will say "Twelveish", on 12:36 it will say "Half past twelve or so". In addition to that, it shows digital time, date, battery percentage and has a complication.

Not only that, but it is extremely customizable:

    • There are over 30 background colors,
    • even more text colors (that can be different for both main and secondary info),
    • 16 different date format combinations,
    • 5 capitalization options,
    • 4 languages,
    • 4 fonts.
    • There is also a 12 and 24 hour toggle,
    • And you can show or hide any information on the watch (like battery percentage, digital clock, seconds, even word clock if you want).
    • Even more, you can basically create different styles for active and ambient modes.

Watch face supports all square, round devices and even devices with a chin. All that in an app size that is just over 1MB.

You can find the download like here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.layoutxml.twelveish, and if you ever decide to donate, you can purchase donation app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.layoutxml.support.

I am here to take your suggestions and answer all your questions about the watch face.

[DEV] Picture Song - create music from pictures (free, no ads)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 05:26 AM PDT

    Hello Reddit!

I just released an Android app where you create songs by

    • drawing with your finger,
    • or selecting an image,
    • or taking a photo,
    • or simply activating the camera lens.

You can vary the music produced by changing a few simple settings. No musical knowledge is required. Now everyone can easily create music!

And it's easy to share your songs; they are exported and imported as a short line of text, so you can share them over SMS, twitter, social apps, etc.

The app is called Picture Song. Picture Song is free and doesn't have any ads.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thunderboltapps.picturesong

I've got some coupon codes for an upgrade to the Full version. If you want one just let me know.

P.S. Picture Song is compatible with the Full version of Soundparty. Songs can be shared between them.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thunderboltapps.soundparty

If you would like a coupon code for the Full version of Soundparty, let me know as well.

    IOS11-style pull-down keys?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:23 AM PDT

OK, so I have an ipad and an Android phone. At first it was weird, but now I find myself trying to "pull down" on keys to get numbers, characters etc on my phone. Anyone know of an Android keyboard which behaves like this, or has this as a configuration option?

    Thanks

(x-post) Geography Wars! - A "find the city" online multiplayer game

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:40 AM PDT

    Hey r/androidapps!

Development has started for a new online multiplayer game based on the old Xbox indie title called Geography Wars! The vision of the game is as follows:

    1. You are matched with another player of similar skill level.

    2. You are both given a city name and have to pin it's location on a world map.

    3. The actual city location is revealed along with the other player's pin.

    4. Whoever is closest to the city, in kilometers, wins the round. Best out of 3 rounds.

    5. You get experience points for wins and move up the rankings.

    6. You can puchase in-game boosters to help you win. Like TIMER ZAP (zap your opponent's timer down 10 seconds) or MAP FLIP (distort the map of your opponent making it harder to pin an accurate location)

We want feedback on ANYTHING. Is this a cool idea for a game? Would you play it? Which features do you hope it has? Any booster ideas that would be fun to use? etc.

Anyone interested can be apart of the entire design and development process by playing free BETA versions of the game, providing feedback and playing the changes. We want to make something that people actually like and want to play! If interested, send me a PM or make a comment below. Let's make a fun game together :)

    [DEV]Totally Free Parental Control app

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 08:13 AM PDT

    [DEV]

    Hi Guys,

I badly needed a parental control app to limit my children screen time, but I didn't find a free one (most was with monthly subscription), except Googles which is not available in Israel, and runs only after you create a new user partition and needs relatively new sdk device.

So, I created one! very simple but effective, and my children are miserable :) they haven't managed to crack it yet :)

It simply remotely locks / unlocks their phones, by sending special sms.

And you can also know their location (as a bonus).

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netcompss.fl_groups

Give it a try, it's still beta, and send me your thoughts.

Swiftkey and gboard seem laggy. Stock will do if I have to. What are some good lightweight keyboard options for older hardware like this thing?
