    Windows update failing

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 12:34 PM PDT

I have setup my windows to boot on my ssd and changed my program files dir to my HDD. This seems to cause problems when doing a windows update because it would always fail unless I change the program files dir back to C drive temporarily just for the update. Is there any fix for this? I wanted to try changing ProgramW6432 to D drive after but the update succeeded already in regedit.

    Disable Family Features?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 07:25 PM PDT

    • Basically as the title explains, my account is under family features, and I was told if I could figure out how to disable them, I could, they decided to lock up apps at random like, Netflix (Watch alot Offline), Groove Music (Never use it, but if i ever needed it, I couldn't use it), and Windows Shell Experience (idk what it does but i dislike that I cant use it). Me or my dad couldn't figure out how to do it.

    (Help) Windows 10 everything failed

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 06:18 PM PDT

So I ran my computer as usual. Got the unexpected error and then a roll back of updates because of some issues (I think it restarted or something yesterday while updating and I just shut it off because I was sleepy) and after that it restarted, the windows started and everything was Normal until it all froze and I had to hard restart. After that I got to the screen of windows start up repair and it started the disk repair thing which got me nowhere after an hour or two. I tried to reset the pc but that didn't work either, made a bootable Windows 10 usb drive and still nothing, can't even install windows from it nor repair. I opened up the cmd and found out that my partitions were all jumbled up too, c was my main windows drive, which was now system reserved or something, and three new other partitions were there with all the files from the old C drive gone to F. I have no clue what's happening, I even tried doing a repair through cmd but it didn't help, or system restore or going back to previous version of windows. Please help

    SSD Shrinking problem

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 02:22 PM PDT

    SSD Shrinking problem

I have an 120 GB SSD, the computer is reading only about 111 GB but it's fine. I currently have 74 GB free on the SSD and I want to get 30 GB out so I can make another partition for a kali linux install. The Windows Disk Management just won't let me shrink the volume, it only lets me shrink around 10 GB which is not enough. What's the problem, what should I do? (photo below)

    Restoring old work laptop?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 11:38 AM PDT

So I've got a old laptop from a company which when I left I didn't return, and it's been years so I don't see them coming for it. It's actually quite a good windows 7 machine and I'm just wondering can I put it back to factory settings or will there be a problem ahead? I know It sounds stupid but I'm just wondering if there's some theft prevention system put in place to stop it from being restored

Microsoft Comes Clean over Windows 10 Connection Endpoints

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 09:51 AM PDT

What are your thoughts? I think this will be very advantageous to tools like Windows Spy Blocker, that already has traced and covered a wide variety of endpoints. Additionally this data "should" show how to properly disable any and every telemetry aspect within Windows. Now, I don't want to sound too paranoid, but this is the question I have. How do we know that this is indeed EVERY endpoint? Do we just take their word for it?

Upgrading to Windows 10 Pro (from S mode) but with product ID

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 06:17 AM PDT

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/95922-generic-product-keys-install-windows-10-editions.html

This website has the generic product keys - it will not activate your system like a product key you BUY would. However, if your system is already activated with a 'digital license' e.g. Windows 10 Pro in S Mode, then if I use the generic key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro (Not in S Mode), would it still be activated? I personally think it would, but any assurance would be nice.

And yes, I know I can get out of S Mode via the Microsoft Store but that involves a Microsoft account and I'm trying to avoid using it at the moment.

Also, would this even solve the problem of getting out of 'S Mode' ? And, will it reinstall the whole OS or do a quick, tiny change while leaving everything else as is?

"During installation, you'll be prompted to enter a product key. If you have a digital license, select the option to continue without entering a product key."

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12440/windows-10-activation

Windows states that if you have digital license then it should activate itself, BUT it does not state anything about S Mode... I'm pretty sure it should be the same but I just want to be sure that it applies to going from Windows 10 Pro S Mode to 10 Pro.

    tl;dr

Basically, I've got Windows 10 Pro in S Mode that is activated with a 'digital license'. Can I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro (Non S) using a generic product key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T and still have windows activated, since I technically have Windows 10 Pro but in S Mode?

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/90846-switch-windows-10-s-mode-windows-10-pro.html

    (refer to option two)

Getting a "We can't sign into your account" temporary profile window on new laptop

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 08:56 PM PDT

My refurbished Dell xps 9560 came in today and I was so excited to start using it. Unfortunately every time I log into it I get the "We can't sign into your account. This problem often can be fixed by signing out of your account and then signing back in" message. I did the obivous of resetting a million times. Nothing. I tried going to registry editor and taking out the .bak but there was no .bak in there. I even deleted the folder with the TEMP in it in registry editor but still no fix. I also connected my microsoft account email to it. I only got it to work once when I updated the machine but then when I restarted it the message popped up again. I tried to call Dell tech support cause I have a warranty but they said they could virtually do nothing. I spent a pretty penny on this laptop and would rather not go through the trouble of returning it. What else can I do?
