The last update for my S7 Active installed more bloatware. Can I get rid of it without rooting? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 09:13 PM PDT In particular, there's an app called "Smart Things" that I have no use for. I can't uninstall it, I can't disable it. I shut down all the permissions for it, and now whenever my phone rings, or just randomly, I get a message saying "Smart Things has stopped". I gave it all the permissions back, and now it won't open, and I get the same message. If I can't shut it down, can I at least get it to work and just leave me alone? [link] [comments] |
Does YouTube Music have music-versions of songs, or does it play the music video version? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 10:13 AM PDT Yeah, so many music videos on YouTube have like a long intro without music, or some talking in the middle of the song and stuff like that. So is that carried over when listening to the songs on YouTube Music? I'm excitedly waiting for Google to release it in my country, but I can see this being a problem, I guess. [link] [comments] |
An intro to Android development for beginners Posted: 03 Jul 2018 11:57 AM PDT Since there have been numerous basic questions from beginners, I decided to make this thread to help people out. Ok, first some basic terms: Root - Like administrator access on a computer. Root allows you to modify system files, which allow for lots of cool things like effective adblock, backing up a whole app and then restoring it, deleting bloatware, and changing your boot animation. Custom Recovery - All android phones have a recovery, which is in a deeper level than the Android OS. This means that even if Android is trashed, the recovery will still boot. However, stock phone recoveries are very limited, and they can really only wipe your data, clear the cache, and apply updates to the Android sytem. Having a custom recovery installed allows you to make whole backups of your system, modify its files, and even overwrite your whole os if you wish, along with the features that are provided by stock recoveries. You can make your phone boot into recovery by turning it off, and then holding power + vol down while your phone is starting. You can install a custom recovery by flashing it from fastboot or download mode (Download Mode is only in Samsung devices) Installing will be explained later. Custom Roms - Custom roms are custom builds of the Android OS that provide extra enhancements to make your android experience better, which include various extra features, and enhanced performance and stability. Another major advantage of custom roms is that you always get the latest security updates for your phone. If you havv an old phone that isnt being updated anymore, and is stuck on an old Android version, custom roms can also help you get the latest Android version on your fairly old phone. For example, thanks to custom roms, a Samsung Galaxy s3 can run Nougat (Android 7.1) and use the latest apps. Custom Roms are normally .zip or.img files, and can be flashed using a custom recovery to your phone. Be aware that most custom roms do not have Google apps (Including the Play Store) Thus, you will need to flash opengapps after flashing the rom to have Google apps. Opengapps can be found online, and they can be installed in the same way as a rom. Fastboot - Another deep level mode on some phones that allows for a custom recovery to be flashed to your phone. To interact with fastboot, you will need fastboot and adb installed on your computer. You will also need the correct drivers to be installed on your computer so that your computer recognizes your phone when its in fastboot. To use fastboot, you need to run cmd in the folder where you downloaded adb and fastboot and have your phone connected to the computer and in fastboot mode. Then on your computer in cmd, type "fastboot devices" and your phone should show up. Then, you can flash a recovery to the phone by typing this command in cmd: "fastboot flash recovery c:\users\you\twrpfile.img" (The file path is an example, when actually doing this you would specify the path of the file you want to flash. Keep in mind that to flash unsigned files like custom recoveries, you will need to have an unlocked bootlader, which voids your warranty. You can look up how to unlock your bootloader online. Download Mode - Found only on Samsungs. Similar to fastboot, but you will need a program called Odin 3 to interact with it, instead of adb and fastboot. It can flash recoveries and roms to your phone while it is in Download Mode. I forgot the combo to enter Download Mode so look it up if you would like to know. Flashing - Flashing is essentially installing firmware to your phone. This can be done by using fastboot or download mode, and installing a custom recovery. The custom recovery then allows you to flash the files you need. Some phones do not have a fastboot or download mode. In this case, you will need to use an exploit to root your phone first, and then use the twrp app to flash twrp to your phone from inside the Android OS. (TWRP is the most popular and best custom recovery). The Process of Rooting - Rooting varies for each and every phone. You will need to research on what the best way is to root your particular device. Keep in mind that some phones are just so locked down, you cant do anything with them. If you have any questions pls post in comments and I will answer. [link] [comments] |
How to change folder look when you click on it? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 10:13 PM PDT I just switched from an iphone 5s to a OnePlus 6, and I could not be happier. I was just wondering, is there a way to change what the folder look like when you open them (like behind the apps)? I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the white rectangle look [link] [comments] |
Samsung S9 (not plus) exynos battery life Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:13 PM PDT I have recently ordered a s9 (not plus) and have been getting excited about my recent purchase, however I have been seeing many posts online saying that the battery life for the exynos chip is really bad, which is getting me worried. Can anyone with this phone give me anymore insight into this issue. With normal use (web browsing, using some social media and watching abit of youtube, all on 4g data and not wifi) would this phone last the whole day? Also, for example if I was on a long journey and wanted to watch a film on my phone, could I watch a whole 3 hour film? More? I would like to know this for the phone on around medium brightness but have the display on its top resolution. Any insight would be greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
How to move back button on Android P? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 09:24 PM PDT Is there a way to move the ba k button from the left to the right? I'm just so used to the touchwiz ui having it on the right, and I recently switched over to the Pixel 2. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jul 2018 07:50 PM PDT Title says most of it. Already did a factory reset since I've been having a number of issues with my phone. The factory reset fixed everything but the charging port issue. I have tried cleaning it with 90% iso prop on a little strip of cardstock and air from an electric ac powered duster (not canned air). Doesn't fix the problem. Seems slightly cable dependent so I think it's the just old and tired contacts on my phone. More than the cable. Some old cables work. Some new cables work. The cables aren't the problem. But generally I plug in my phone to charge and set it down while it fast charges fine. A little while later it'll stop charging because "the port is wet" even though I haven't touched the phone and it's sitting in an air conditioned room 72°F normal household humidity. Should I just replace the port? Should I replace the battery while I'm in there? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2018 07:24 PM PDT That's around 100$usd, for a used model. Seems good, but g5 had some bad press. Go for it? [link] [comments] |

How to download Google Play Music to phone correctly Posted: 03 Jul 2018 06:07 PM PDT When I download an album to my android from Google Play music, it works fine on Google Play Music. However, I don't use Google Play Music as my primary music player for my device. When I load up the album in my primary player (Rocket Player), the tracks are just numbers; they have no metadata? Does Google Play Music use some sort of secret metadata? Does anyone know of any way to download from Google Play with the good, old-fashioned metadata in tow for use with music player that isn't Google play music? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2018 05:52 PM PDT I got a Motorola Turbo, but it is on its last leg and the battery just can't hold a charge anymore. I could never find anything wrong with it in the 3.5-4 years I have had it. I am wondering what is the most similar phone to it currently? Any and all help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
My Google Assistant stopped working properly about a month ago... Posted: 03 Jul 2018 01:58 PM PDT So when I do the OK Google to bring up my Google assistant and request a search or function it does the thing where it says it is going to get it for me or here are the results I found but it doesn't bring the results up. It stays with the three dots like it's searching for the results. It only happens when I use the vocal OK Google feature and if I type it out in the search box widget I have it tends to find things fine. Is there something I can do to fix this or is this a problem that came with the recent update that more people are experiencing? I did try to do a full phone reset thinking that might be a setting I changed that messed things up but it still does it with a clean phone. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
syncing google for map, but not contacts or email? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 05:20 PM PDT My husband has an android phone for personal use (Samsung Galaxy S6), as well as an android phone for work (Samsung Galaxy S8). On his work phone, he needs to be signed into a google account in order to save a dropped pin (according to him; personally, I use apple maps on my phone, so I'm not too familiar with the situation). However, he doesn't want his contacts or email to sync to his google account on his work phone. Is it possible to be signed into google for maps, but not contacts or email? Thanks! Is it Possible to Disable Certain Icon Frames Posted: 03 Jul 2018 05:08 PM PDT I currently have just switched to a samsung galaxy s8, and i recently discovered turning off the icon frames. The issue is that some apps I want without icon frames (like firefox and dolphin emu) but some other apps look terrible without the icon frames, so is it possible to turn it on and off for certain apps? I assume I can't do it default, but is there an app or setting that would allow me to do it? Thanks for the information! [link] [comments] |
Flashing firmware with Odin - what am I doing wrong? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 05:04 PM PDT Due to the lack of updates on my S8+ XEF, I decided to flash the last update with either the XEU or DBT versions. However, I seem to be doing something wrong, because when I start Odin - with all files in the right places and press start, the phone just reboots as if nothing happened. Anyone has an idea as to why? [link] [comments] |
Android P: how to reorder home screens? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:59 PM PDT In Oreo, you could long press on an empty space on your home screen and move your actual pages around. Remove the ultra power saving toggle from notification center Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:56 PM PDT hello, i have a Huawei P9 lite, I've been using an anti-procrastination app for a while now on my phone (AppBlock) it basically locks me out of all my distracting app. this has been a huge problem to me as i'm addicted on social media and i can't focus on my work for 10 mins without checking my phone. the problem is that recently i discovered a way to bypass this lock. when i switch on my ultra power saving mode from my notification center, i can access all the blocked apps. moreover, when i come back from this mode this app doesn't function anymore. the only solution i could think of is a way to remove the ultra power saving toggle from notification center. is there a way to do so? I'm haivng problems charging my Amazon Edition Moto Z3 Play. Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:38 PM PDT I have a 30000 mAh Anker that I can use to charge my Switch, Chromebook, and former Note 8 flawlessly. I have tried plugging my Z3 into it using both an Anker USB-C to C cable, and the charging cable that came with my phone, and it looks like the charging is flickering on and off. I also have a 10' USB cable that I tried to plug into the charger the phone came with, and the same results. Plugging the phone into it's own and cable and charger works fine, but I'm frustrated I can't use my external battery pack with my new phone at all. Is this just some weirdness with Moto Turbo Power, or should I get a replacement from Amazon? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:23 PM PDT TLDR; Phone has some type of malware and many people havent been able to fix it. My idea is to reinstall OS system but dont know how. Thanks. Video of phone acting up. Sorry bad quality https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hHplqkh_5BzIX3gM3oG7dTScKsxrjENr/view?usp=sharing So my uncle has an Inco Air 2 and its a really good phone. He said the phone caught sometime of malware a couple years back he took it to many places to see if they could fix it but that was not possible. He said the malware before used to pop up women on his phone, note not naked just in a pose. He once was able to use an antivirus to see if it had any and it said it had 3 malwares detected. He still couldnt get rid of them even after uninstalling them. We have factory reset it already many times but it is still there. I went in the phone in safe mode to look for any suspicious apps but didn't identify any. In the video i just show you what happens after the i turn the phone on, note the women that used to pop up dont do so anymore but the screen will black out. If you look in the video it works fine for a good minute then it will lag a bit and then the center of the screen will black out, but i am still able to see the top bar of the phone where the time is. After that happens in the video i push the lock button a couple times to see if i get any image on the screen but get nothing. The buttons do light up but that doesnt help. I dont know what to do at this point. I dont want to give up on it, im doing this for fun he has a new phone but im kinda a tech geek so yea. I cant find a way to reinstall the OS system, android 4.4, on it which is what i think would fix it. Anything helps honestly at this point and if im in the wrong subreddit you can point me out to the correct one please. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Mobile Data not working. Am I doomed? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:02 PM PDT I recently bought an Honor 10 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Huawei-Honor-10-Smartphone-Android-8-1-Kirin-970-Octa-Core-4G-WIFI-GPS-Touch-ID/183246792496?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=690528817949&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649) on eBay and it seems to be from China. After using it for about a day, I realized the Mobile Data wasn't working on the phone. Under the "Preferred network type" in Mobile Network setting it has one for 4G/3G/2G, but it won't actually use 4G or 3G. I am currently using a sim card from T-Mobile. I've also tried using the code: *#*#4636#*#* on the dial pad, but nothing comes up. Is there any solution for this? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2018 02:51 PM PDT Most apps I install from the play store or as an app file are crashing. However, I've noticed a pattern Usually the app asks for permission to access something on my phone, and it crashes whether I grant it or now That's not always the case tho, some apps are crashing that doesn't ask for permission and some apps that do ask for permission are working fine without any problems [link] [comments] |
