Is it better to stay plugged in or drain and recharge multiple times a day? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 07:05 AM PDT Usually when I use my laptop for light use the battery lasts all day. I then recharge it at night. Lately I have been using it for graphics intensive work. It drains much quicker and I was recharging up to 4 times per day. Is it better for the battery to just keep it plugged in durring this time? [link] [comments]
To Yoga 720 or not to Yoga 720, that is the question Posted: 27 Jul 2018 07:19 AM PDT I've been eyeballing a new laptop and was hoping for the 8th gen chips (like the 8750H) to come to 2-in-1s at a price that's bearable. The Zbook x360 is the only one so far and it comes in at over 2 grand (for base model and isn't even released for another couple of days), which, is definitely not bearable (for me). Last years Yoga 720 (with the 7700HQ) has been refreshed with the 8550U and the old model appears to be on clearance at a number of retailers indicating that at the least they (the retailers) will no longer stock it, and at the most, Lenovo will no longer be making it. So here's the rub...given that the 7700HQ Yoga appears to be a 'discontinued' product, and given all the issues that have sprung up over the past 12 months or so since its release...am I playing with warranty hell fire by purchasing one so late in the product cycle. I mean, what are the chances of getting stuck in a warranty loop should the initial unit be or become defective (due to the large pool of 'refurbished' units being available)? Or is it the complete opposite? Am I more likely than ever before to get a fully functioning unit that doesn't have warranty issues in the first few months of life (due to late product cycle QC improvements)? I may/may not be leaving the country in a couple of months too. So should the need arise, the warranty would be redeemed internationally which may further complicate things if not result in extended periods without a laptop. If it is a bad idea I have my eye on some 8550U units which will just have to do (I guess). Unless the latest XPS refresh drops a good 500 bucks or so in two months :/ [link] [comments]
Ideapad 330s updated with GTX 1050 Posted: 27 Jul 2018 01:16 PM PDT https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-300-series/Ideapad-330S-15-Intel/p/88IP30S0988 I was browsing recently and found these configurations- one of the few 8th gen U processor laptops with a GTX 1050. The only other laptops I can think of with this combination are the Acer Nitro 5/Spin 5 (2in1) and the Asus K570UD. The k570: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B2DTYFX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_ZE3wBb40F3A64 When it was first released, I thought the k570 looked amazing- great storage, good battery life, a GTX 1050, and 16gb ram at a good price. Unfortunately, it turned out they compromised with a plastic chassis and a bad quality TN display panel. In comparison, the top ideapad 330s model offers 4gb less ram and 128gb less SSD storage, but with a proper IPS panel, aluminum chassis, Lenovo keyboard, and pcie SSD instead of sata. Not planning on buying it myself, but would it be a worthwhile purchase for someone who wants both good battery life and better gaming performance than an MX150? Or are there issues that make this combination unpopular? Also, are there alternatives around the same price? [link] [comments]
Need help with Laptop selection - HP vs Razer Posted: 27 Jul 2018 09:19 AM PDT I'm quite in a predicament as I don't know which Laptop would be the most suitable for me, so I decided to come here and ask you folks for some help. I'll be using the laptop for work related things and some casual gaming (CSGO, maybe GTA V, Rocket League, PUBG maybe). The options are: HP Envy x360: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2018-HP-1TB-SSD-16GB-ENVY-15-x360-8th-i7-8550U-15-6-FHD-Touch-Backlit-Laptop/362312731024 HP Spectre x360: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Windows-10-Pro-16GB-Intel-Core-i7-HP-Spectre-13-x360-13-3-FHD-SSD-Laptop-Backlit/152323690952 Razer Blade Stealth (256GB SSD, DUAL CORE): https://www2.razer.com/au-en/store/razer-blade-stealth The main issue here I'm facing is the fact that some offer 7th Gen Intel core i7 (Razer and Spectre) whilst some offer the 8th Gen i7 (Envy). How different would the performance be between 8th gen and 7th gen i7's? There is also another issue where the Razer offers dual core i7 instead of quad core (they do offer quad core, but it's more than what I'm willing to pay) whereas the other two offer quad core i7's. Will that affect my performance for the tasks (work related stuff and/or games)? All of them offer Intel HD Graphics 620 which isn't too good, but this is what I see in most laptops around that price range. Are games still playable with that? If so, what would the average FPS be? Is 16GB of RAM necessary? How different would it be compared to 8GB RAM? Greatly appreciate suggestions for any other good laptops in the market around that price range as well which are solid in performance. MORE INFO (USING THE FORM GIVEN):
$1900 AUD max - Australia
Best specifications for the money, nice design as well
Out of a scale of 10 (with 10 being the most important), I'd give it a 7.5
Windows
N/A
Gaming - GTA V, CSGO, Rocket League, PUBG, FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator), P3D
GTA V, CSGO, Rocket League, PUBG, FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator), P3D. Recommended settings (i.e. game looks good and performs decently), perform at 50-60fps
Good keyboard

Posted: 27 Jul 2018 12:46 PM PDT I'm looking for a really light and thin laptop that I could take to university every day. Portability comes before performance because I'll have a PC in my room. I came across this one that looks pretty good and is light enough but maybe there's better options out there. I also would like it to be metal if possible. I also like it that it's fanless. I found a renewed/refurbished Lenovo Ideapad 710s Though I'm afraid of the quality of the fixes. There also this , is 4gb enough if you don't intend to game on the laptop? I feel like it might be not enough. I live in Lithuania so there's not much too choose from and prices are generally quite higher. Which one would you choose? Maybe there are better options? Do the specifications of this laptop match the price? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 10:10 AM PDT I've been looking for a new, general-purpose laptop, mostly for working in MS Office and such, with a slight tendency towards gaming (LoL). The best thing I've managed to find (considering the suppliers in my area and country, and also my buying range of 500$ max) was this https://www.gigatron.rs/laptop_racunari/dell_inspiron_15_3567__not11679-122192 . Do you guys think I should go for it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 05:23 AM PDT I have a brand new Dell G5 with a 1060 Max-Q and i7 8750H. In an air conditioned room it can play Doom 2016 on Ultra on the built in screen (1080p@60fps) without getting especially noisy. My 1440p 144Hz desktop monitor is in a warmer (like 25C) room and if I hook the laptop up to it, it maxes out at about 80fps and the laptop fans soon go crazy and parts of the laptop eventually get very hot to touch. Would this laptop (rear-venting) benefit significantly from getting a cooling pad, and if so any recommendations? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 08:50 AM PDT Hello. I want to buy laptop but I can't choose. Mainly for editing photos using Photoshop, sometimes gaming (CS:GO), and programming. My budget is around 650 usd (around 1100 Bulgarian levas). What do you suggest? [link] [comments]

Does anyone here own an ASUS GL702ZC Posted: 27 Jul 2018 07:12 AM PDT I've just purchased one, and would like to ask some questions to a fellow user, just to see if they are having the same experiences. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Is this a good laptop for a college student? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 06:36 AM PDT This laptop seems to check all the boxes for me, but I wanted to get second opinions. It has a good processor (i5-8250U), 8GB DDR4 RAM, an IPS 1080p screen, metal body, and a fingerprint reader. I'm planning on switching the hard drive out for my spare SSD, and I have no plans to do any gaming on this thing. Normal price is $509, but I'll be getting it for $446.15 from Amazon Warehouse (it's in 'Very Good' condition, only the packaging is damaged apparently.) Is this a good laptop and a good deal? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0762S8PYM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jTXwBb8972884 [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 12:30 AM PDT Hey all, I'm running a laptop with 1060 (MSI GS43-vr) and I'm getting around 80FPS for CS:GO (on high) and 40FPS for The Division (on low). I'm pretty sure that this is below par for a 1060, and I'm wondering what the expected FPS range should be.
If this is indeed very low, is there a possible way to fix this and obtain higher FPS? Cheers all, have a nice day. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jul 2018 06:42 PM PDT Hi, I was wondering what kind of laptop I should get in the price range of around $400 to $500 and I want to stay away from chromebooks, thank you. I was also considering this one below, which I posted about a couple days ago and a Redditor said that they were concerned that it did not have a SDD. Thank you! Laptop screen - weird afterimage Posted: 27 Jul 2018 05:27 AM PDT Hi everyone, This might be a stupid question, but this is my first laptop so I'm not sure if this is typical behaviour for laptop screens or not. It seems like when transitioning from white to black, there is a second or two transition where the pixels turn red before slowly fading to black. It's kind of like a temporary burn. This has the effect of causing a trailing after image when, for example, moving my cursor across the screen, or when bright objects move across a dark background in a film. I've tried checking the problem out on google, but I'm not really sure how to google this particular scenario... I've tried updating drivers with no luck. It's an MSI leopard pro, if that matters. Can anyone fill me in on whether this is normal behaviour for a laptop screen? Thanks guys! [link] [comments]
Need help with repasting Asus ROG Zephyrus M. Posted: 27 Jul 2018 05:00 AM PDT The questions are pretty basic, what paste should I use? Should I go for liquid metal? What thickness thermal pads should I use? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 03:38 AM PDT As I'm going to university this year I have to find a suitable laptop. I will be using it mostly for CAD, some gaming (For Honour, Overwatch), MS Office and of course web browsing, I found some possible choices but the graphic card's names confuse me. How do these cards compare to each other and which would be the most suitable: -MX130 -MX150 -GTX 1050 Ti AFAIK the MX130 would be the "worst", but don't really know the difference between the other two. Also if one is much better, do you think the other would be sufficient for my needs? [link] [comments]
Sound out of TV and earbuds in laptop? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 03:19 AM PDT So for my laptop, I have my TV connected to it via HDMI, and sound automatically comes out of the TV of course, but I was wondering if there's a way I can make what's on my TV (YouTube) play the sound on there, while what's on my laptop (my game) play that sound through ear buds. Battery Stops Charging When Gaming Posted: 26 Jul 2018 09:04 PM PDT I received my Huawei Matebook X Pro i7 about a week ago for photo/video editing. However I noticed when I start playing games or run a benchmark, my laptop says "plugged in, not charging." The battery resumes charging like normal after the laptop cools down. Is this normal? Is a Dell Inspiron 5000 a suitable computer for an upcoming college student? Posted: 26 Jul 2018 05:59 PM PDT I probably won't be gaming too much on this computer but will be majoring in mathematics/engineering so may run into quite a bit of coding and heavy software uses. [link] [comments]
Need laptop advice for college/video editing :( (desperate) Posted: 27 Jul 2018 02:17 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: budget is 700 euros and I want to buy in the Netherlands. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. No idea. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very important. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes! I want to be able to play the game "Guild Wars 2" with medium quality, be able to record using either "Dxtory" or "Nvidia Shadowplay" and also video edit with Sony Vegas 13/Windows Movie Maker 2012. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? "Guild Wars 2" is the only the game I play. I would like to be able to play it at 30 fps while recording... and I guess 40 fps when not recording then :) Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Nope! I will use my own bluetooth mouse and I will just need to get used to the keyboard. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This laptop will also be used for college, so being fast for things like word/whatsapp online/google docs/etc is also kind of important. I also heard from friends that Lenovo laptops are good in general, so I guess I prefer that. I have a Toshiba laptop now and I am not happy with it since it kinda broke down... other than that, thanks for helping! I have no experience in any of this so any help will be appreciated!
