"Gmail: Syncing Mail" - Constantly appearing notification Posted: 30 Jul 2018 03:26 PM PDT Hey y'all. I'm having an issue with Gmail and this annoying notification. Since my S7 updated to Oreo a month or so back, every time my gmail syncs, this notification pops up for a few 3-5 seconds to let me know it's syncing. For 8 years, gmail has been syncing normal, silently, and fine in the background, only alerting me of new mail through notification. But this constant "Gmail: syncing mail..." notification is quite extremely irritating. I'm worried if I turn off/block notifications for Gmail, then I wouldn't be alerted of new incoming mail. Any way to stop this? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to fully remove traces of app data without root? Posted: 30 Jul 2018 09:13 PM PDT I am using android Marshmallow. Certain apps remember my device even after I've cleared data and cache, or uninstalled. The MTV app remembers my device after the 24 hour free viewing period passes, so I have to use Chrome in incognito to keep getting 24 hour passes. I factory reset my phone once, and noticed MTV forgot my device after that, so I was able to use the for a one-time 24 hour pass. Is there any way to make an app completely forget my phone without having to factory reset? [link] [comments] |
[Question] Google feed/assistant/news Posted: 30 Jul 2018 09:38 PM PDT I'm a bit confused, and not very amused. I have set up my Google feed to show me the news topics I want to see. I'm a watch lover for instance, added 'watches' as topic to my feed, and I daily received cards of some great watch websites in my feed. So far so good! Last week the Dutch Google assistant came available and I switched my primary language to Dutch. To make full use of my Pixel 2 XL. Still have English selected as secondary language. But I don't receive any cards of English watch websites anymore. Only of some stupid Dutch watch forum. And I cannot find the sites I like in the assistant/feed sources. Is there a way to add custom websites to my feed? Can I get my feed to start showing those English websites again? What should I use for this? Assistant/feed (is this the same?) or Google News? Why can't we use Google Reader anymore (those were the days!)? Please spare me the Google bashing comments and share with me how you guys use it/have set it up [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2018 09:18 PM PDT Interestingly when I go to Contacts, only my personal list of 100-200 contacts are there. That's the list I want to choose from when I begin typing their name on phone or messages. Too often I almost accidentally select or butt dial a work contact! How can I update Huawei Y7 (2017) past Android 7.0 and get specific functions? Posted: 30 Jul 2018 08:40 PM PDT This is my phone ( not the "prime" version) https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_y7-8687.php It's currently running Android 7.0. Ideally I'd like it to run the most recent version (8.1 correct?) Specific functions that I'm missing that I'd like to have - Ability to install apps on the microSDHC card - Ability to run apps in the background (my phone closes apps on its own for some reason) - Notification snoozing - Stop the screen from turning on by itself for no apparent reason. Can someone kindly let me know what I can do to update my phone past what the manufacture allows so I can get the functionality that I'm after? The performance and visual enhancements in the new software versions would be welcome as well. Is there cons to updating my phone w/o the official update from Huawai? If so, what are they? Thanks for any advice that you can provide! [link] [comments] |
Really need help with this one... Posted: 30 Jul 2018 07:57 PM PDT Hi! How are you doing? I recently bought a Galaxy s9. I've been enjoying it for a while now. But now, I got this weird thing where you can't download or update anything from the playstore. I've searched a LOT through the web, and it seems to be a common mistake. The problem is that every solution I've tried hasn't worked for me (cleaning app's cache, deleting account, etc.) And I don't know what to do. This is getting really deseperating. [link] [comments] |

Samsung S5 Mobile Hotspot - Can't Connect to Network Posted: 30 Jul 2018 07:50 PM PDT I'm running Android 6 on a Samsung s5. I can create and configure a hotspot (in the tethering options), and the password is correct. But when I try to connect to it on my Windows 10 laptop, my hotspot is available among the wireless networks, but when I try to connect, it fails with "can't connect to network." I've tried restarting my phone, computer wireless, etc. I'm able to browse the internet on my phone and computer separately. Not sure what else to do. My phone has been chronically running out of storage space, but that's been true for longer than this issue, which has been the past few months. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jul 2018 02:26 PM PDT Hello, I'm looking for an app, or even integration between google slides app and calendar. I'm thinking of using an android stick pc and run a slideshow that integrates with my calendar. My goal is to have multiple slides that show my calendar events, upcoming games for my sports teams, and shopping list and run this slideshow on a small TV in my hallway as a reminder. I'm considering the integration of google calendar, because on it's own, can do most of what I want with the calendar events and I can can even add my sports team's calendar. I could also use the tasks list as a shopping list if needed. Is anyone aware of an app or some configuration of google's apps that allow me to do this? [link] [comments] |
Recommendation for a new phone Posted: 30 Jul 2018 05:41 AM PDT Hello all, Looking for a new phone to replace my Galaxy J7. I am in USA. Here are my requirements:
The Asus 5z is a contender, but I've heard horror stories about how well Asus updates their phones. Another one I've considered is the HTC U11+ or the s9, but may wait for Note 9 or S10 next year. Any other options? I am with Virgin Mobile right now, but since they're not really selling Android phones anymore, I may switch to Mint Mobile. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

What are some of the things you should look to backup before you factory reset/root? Posted: 30 Jul 2018 02:12 PM PDT Hello all. So yeah, topic title. For sure I know I'll be backing up my photos. Right now I'm using Google Photos for that, was wondering if anyone else had any better suggestion or would that be good enough. Text messages I don't really care for, might be one of the reasons why I'm actually even needing a reset. I'm guessing my contacts should be saved via Google too so things should be fine there. Not sure about app data and stuff... I'm guessing if the app has an option to login with an account it should have the information saved on that account rather than the data on the phone, right? Is there a way to maximize battery life while only using the camera app? (Nexus 6P) Posted: 30 Jul 2018 02:09 PM PDT I'm going on an overseas trip where I won't be making any calls, texts, etc. I am pretty much only bringing my phone to take pictures. My phone's battery life is absolute crap (that's a different issue to fix). Is there something I can do to maximize battery life, since I'm only going to be using the camera app? I'm already going to have my phone in airplane mode and battery saver mode but was wondering if there was anything I could do beyond this. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
[ROOTED]Navigation Button's Remapping? Posted: 30 Jul 2018 12:56 PM PDT My phone runs on Android 6.0 (AOSP) and still uses the legacy Android button configuration (aka gingerbread type buttons, isn't it awful and it's a Mediatek so no updates/custom roms ) I use Button Mapper in order to restore the original Android 6.0 button function but it's very glitchy. The buttons sometime may not work and the worst part is when I use the app switcher, instead of showing the app that I've been into first so I can close it ,it shows me the previous open app and I accidentally close the previous app every time ... Odd error messages when factory resetting OG Pixel on DP5 Posted: 30 Jul 2018 09:32 PM PDT I was having issues with battery life on Android P DP5, so I decided to do an adb backup, wipe the phone, and restore the backup. When I tried erasing, however, I started getting odd messages, as can be seen here. Rebooting the phone would only bring me to the erasing screen. and after a minute or two, back to that error screen. Factory resetting from recovery mode would return the same issues. After speaking to numerous people, I finally was able to flash DP5 again (as it did not work at first for some reason), and things changed. Booting the phone brought me to the Google screen, although the Pixel has been sitting there for roughly an hour. I was told to try factory resetting from recovery mode again, but now I get the following messages:
Unfortunately for me, while I once had OEM Unlock enabled. I turned it off, so now I cannot even unlock the bootloader so as to flash a factory image. Any suggestions about what to do? I plan on going to uBreakiFix later, even though it will probably be a waste of time. And no, I cannot flash the latest O OTA, due to an issue with the timestamps. [link] [comments] |
Any Android games to show off HDR display? Posted: 30 Jul 2018 01:51 PM PDT Any games with HDR support I can use to show off my snazzy S9 HDR screen? Obviously lots of HDR streaming video content, but any games? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2018 03:09 PM PDT I'm looking for a phone either around 300$ but not over, or below it. Just a simple mid-ranger as I'm switching from iPhone to Android. I have Verizon, and I was looking at the Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom but I'm unsure if it works with Verizon. Does anyone have any ideas for a good mid-range phone under/around 300$? Thank you!
