Posted: 03 Jul 2018 07:09 AM PDT Apparently they ship them now with DDR4 memory instead of the usual GDDR5, without a specific / noticeable name change and it has a significant hit on performance if you game on it. Make sure you're getting a GDDR5 version. [link] [comments]

Is there a way to have a "normal" Windows10 search? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:16 AM PDT Hi, What I mean by a normal search bar, is for it to behave like in Windows7, and not this horrid piece of brain gymnastics that Microsoft has worked on. Not sure how to describe it. First, I'd like for the search to display all search results. Here is an example Sorry for the picture being in german. There is a program called exactly like what I typed in, but no results at all for it. Another problem is that it sometimes just fucking forgets that I installed a program (on the main storage device, so it shouldn't be any registry wizardries), and just much more... the search is terrible. Any ideas on how to make life with Win10 atleast a little bit more bearable? Also, is it possible to disable the internet search results? I'm never ever going to click one of those links. Edit: The solution seems to be to install Classic Shell (donate 2$ to the site if you can :) ). At least im happy with it. Edit2: Everything also seems to be great, you can just bind a key to it, with AutoHotKey for example [link] [comments]
1060 6gb and i5-8400 build review/criticism Posted: 03 Jul 2018 10:38 AM PDT Hello, I'm going to build a "budget" build and was looking for some criticism on how it is looking... Please note that the prices listed are the ones I'll be paying locally (Portugal) so here are a few questions some of you might be able to asnwer. I'll list it down so it's easier for anyone who might answer me: 1) How's the overall build? 2) There is a combatibility note on the pcpartpicker that says: "The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled." What does this exactly mean? Does my motherboard not support the SSD? 3) Last, is there anything I could change to make it cheaper? EDIT: I forgot to add that I'll be mostly playing games like Fortnite, HITMAN, Rocket League and things alike... THE BUILD: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Unusual standards, what kind of CPU, GPU and RAM should I target? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 10:18 AM PDT Hello. Hope you're having a nice day. I really hope I'm not posting that in the wrong subreddit. So, I'd like to replace my 15 years old PC with a new one. Mostly, that'd be to play video games, browse the internet and chat with my girlfriend; and maybe sometimes stream for her, too. Though if that really requires high-end hardware while nothing else does, I guess I'd forget about that last bit. Anyway, while I could technically have a big budget, I'd prefer to keep the costs low. Here's the thing: I don't really mind low settings, but do care about FPS and multitasking. 720p at low to medium settings is fine by me, but getting below 60fps would probably bother me. As I said, the ability to multitask would also be important to me, like for instance having Discord in the background while I'm playing. Now, if it was just that, I wouldn't bother asking. But I'd very much like not to worry about being able to play future games... I barely have any experience with PC gaming, so I don't know if that's even realistic, but in like five years, would I be able to play the newest games? I don't expect anyone here to own a crystal ball, but maybe it's possible to speculate about that? I read that future proofing one's PC was basically an exercise in futility, and I believe I understand the reasoning behind it, but considering that I'm completely willing to play on low settings, does that still apply? And to this end, should I prefer higher-end parts, or are budget ones viable? I don't really need names, just to know what I should target. Anyway, thank you for your time. Posted: 03 Jul 2018 11:40 AM PDT I started planning this during may and it finally came to fruition on June 28th! I browsed reddit, the internet, and Pc Partpicker to gain the knowledge necessary to join the build club. It was super super fun. I enjoyed learning about all of the parts, what they do, how they interact, etc. It is like an addiction and I already want to build another. CPU--i7-8700k I originally went with the i5, but was recommended to spend the extra $$ and get this fantastic piece of technology. No regrets whatsoever. It has been great for me so far. CPU cooler--Hyper 212 Evo This cooler is definitely the best budget fan cooler. I put my PC under a stress test, as well as cranking up multiple games to the highest settings and it has done the job with minimal noise. NEWBIES BEWARE!!! Although this cooler is great, I cannot tell you how frustrated I was at the poor design of the bracket. I couldn't get this f***ing thing on for the life of me and I didn't want to exert a lot of power for fear of breaking something. However, I did some reading and soon learned that this is normal with the 212, and to apply a good amount, but no too much pressure. Finally got the thing on even though it was definitely the most annoying part of this build. MOBO--Prime Z370-a Not much to say! Great mobo. Plenty of fan connectors, rob headers, you name it. Super easy to build on. Memory--Trident RGB These surprisingly were cheaper than their 3000 brethren. I was super surprised when I went to micro center and they told me this so I thought "What the heck?" 16 GBS is plenty for me, however I think I might want one more! Storage--Seagate and Crucial Both are fantastic. Haven't used the Hard drive much because all of my stuff on this computer I want to load super fast. I feel sure once I put some phots or other random files on this, it will go to use. However will probably be switching this out for another SSD. GPU--1070 Ti This thing is a BEAST!!! I haven't done any overclocking, but so far this performs exceptionally well. I am able to run fortnite at ultra settings at 160 fps(using G sync), as well as pub g on ultra at around 140-150fps(g sync). Definitely gonna be overclocking but I know I should be careful because of the cooler. Case--S340 Great case plenty of space in the front for everything. Light, great airflow, and quiet. However, my two quarrels are the placement of the SSD trays, and the cable management in the back. The SSD tray placement is horrendous. I was afraid I was going to break the SATA cable off but it worked out. Might do some modding. Calble management in the back is great... if you don't plan on using extra fans(which I did), or using a semi modular PSU(which I also did). I originally planned on buying the enthoo pro, but I was delightfully surprised by this case. NZXT we need more room for cables!! PSU-TXM 550W What can I say. Great Psu, nothing really much more to say. Monitor-s2417dg If you need a "cheap" G sync monitor, oh my god. This is your boy. This is probably one of my favorite parts of this list. Paired with its g sync capabilities, high refresh rate, and resolution, your gaming experience is going to look down right gorgeous. Keyboard-k552 Small. Compact. Great response time.(and it has RGB;D) Pictures-https://imgur.com/a/AjaRzDT [PCPartPicker part list](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gTtnGG) / [Price breakdown by merchant](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gTtnGG/by_merchant/) **CPU** | [Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor] **CPU Cooler** | [Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler] **Motherboard** | [Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard] **Memory** | [G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory] **Storage** | [Crucial - MX500 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive] **Storage** | [Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive] **Video Card** | [EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card] **Case** | [NZXT - S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case] **Power Supply** | [Corsair - TXM Gold 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply] **Monitor** | [Dell - S2417DG 23.8" 2560x1440 165Hz Monitor] **Keyboard** | [Redragon - K552 Wired Gaming Keyboard | *Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts* | | Total (before mail-in rebates) | $1934.53 | Mail-in rebates | -$50.00 | **Total** | **$1884.53** | Generated by [PCPartPicker](https://pcpartpicker.com) 2018-07-03 14:37 EDT-0400 | [link] [comments]
Sub $500 Mini Tower Build: "Some Holds Barred" Posted: 03 Jul 2018 11:35 AM PDT First, A PIC Before the parts list just want to mention that the ram and SSD aren't the exact models I bought, just roughly equivalent. And I didn't buy any of these parts from the sellers listed. All microcenter except the GPU, which was "new old stock". Also the CPU cooler is still sitting in the box for now, so just Intel stockie in the picture. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
So the prices are obviously wonky since the gtx970 shows no price and I got the CPU motherboard bundle for $180 at Microcenter (God bless). But for $500 all in it performs really well, looks great for a budget case, and has great cooling. Anybody who is looking for a budget case would be foolish to not take a look at the H18, since it is tied for the cheapest tempered glass case and extremely high quality for the price. I was dead set on used components at first for the entire system besides the case and SSD, but this 8th gen setup ended up being pretty in line with what people tend to ask for older intel k chip setups that I wouldnt even be able to upgrade down the line. In this case I am very happy that I went brand new for everything besides the GPU, where I really needed to get my money's worth. In terms of the graphics card, you could pop any number of used graphics cards in this system to make a nice budget build, but I happened to get the deal I wanted on a "new old stock" EVGA 970 SSC. I considered cards like the gtx780, 960, 980, and 1060 3/6gb. All about finding the right deal in this market. I only have a 1080p 60hz monitor, so I have no trouble maxing the games I play frequently like R6 siege, insurgency, bf4, and pubg. The system is very easily upgradeable though so when I do get a faster monitor I can get a new GPU, CPU, or both depending on what the situation is. Some small items that aren't listed: - 1x120mm Corsair af120 in purple as the exhaust fan - 2x120mm Thermaltake Ring in blue for the intake fans - Magnetic RGB strip with built in controller from Microcenter Seeing a lot of $1000+ systems on here for first time builds and just wanted to show that you can have some solid power on a budget if you don't need all the bells and whistles. I am all about those high end builds though, so beautiful and keep em coming! Build what you can afford and enjoy the process either way. Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:59 PM PDT hello I am thinking about updating my pc and I am thinking about a gtx 1060 but the question is what is the best performing 1060 and what card is the best for money on the market right now? [link] [comments]

Need help to choose a motherboard for a Ryzen 3 2200G Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:33 PM PDT Background info I want to build a very simple pc for my parents, they only use very simple programs such as Skype, Chrome, Excel etc. In addition to that I would like to be able to set the amount of ram dedicated to the integrated gpu in order to allow my sister to play some games (she liked Dishonored 1 and Skyrim but she definitely isn't a gamer so this is a secondary use). Parts I'm considering CPU: Ryzen 3 2200G RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz 8Gb (1x8) STORAGE: 500 GB Kingston SSD PSU: Corsair VS 450w Motherboards Ideas I was thinking about the ASUS B350M - K motherboard but I'm not sure if if will allow me to dedicate 1-2 Gb of ram to the integrated gpu from the Bios. Need help! Windows won’t boot! Posted: 03 Jul 2018 09:17 AM PDT So I just finished putting together my first gaming pc. Specs are as follows Asus z370e motherboard I7 8700k 750 evga g2 power supply Evga 1080ti ftw3 16 gb g skill trident z rgb 500gb Samsung 860 evo SSD 2 tb Seagate Barracuda HDD Nzxt kraken x52 5 Corsair ll 120 fans with a Corsair commander. So I put everything together and went to go turn it on. Computer turns on and posts. Plugged in the usb for windows and it boots and let's me select 32 or 64bit I choose 64 it displays a loading bar and says loading files after that completes I get a black screen with the windows logo and I circular looking loading wheel for a few seconds then it goes straight to a black screen. I have tried to do multiple things with nothing working. I have made sure all cables are plugged in completely. In the bios it seems to recognize everything. I tried using an XMP profile for the ram, I tried switching SATA ports for the hard drives. I tried installing on only the ssd plugged in and I also tried installing with only the hdd plugged in. I tried taking out the GPU and installing off the motherboard using HDMI. One thing I have also noticed is that all the fans turn on in the case except the GPU fans. I tried installing with no usb devices in the motherboard. Tried many different USB ports. Every time I get the same result. Please if anyone has any idea what could be causing this I would love some feedback. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:13 PM PDT I'm trying to optimize this build and lower the cost wherever possible without sacrificing performance. Sometimes I see people post on here and commenters switch out things for cheaper and better parts, and I'm just checking to see if there are any choices I've made that could result in something similar. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Some notes on each part: CPU: I'm pretty set on this so no changes here. Motherboard: Looking for suggestions here. Don't know much about motherboards. If this one's fine then no worries. Memory: I see people recommend these all the time. I'm assuming they're reliable and worth the price. Storage (SSD): I am set on this. Storage (HDD): Looking for suggestions here. I've seen people recommend cheaper 2TBs, but I want a quality one. If this one's fine then no worries. Video Card: Set on a 1080 Ti. Doubt it'll get any cheaper than this. Case: I guess I could do the S340 or S340 Elite, but supposedly this is the successor. Is the H500i worth the cost over the H500? Power Supply: Heard good things about this too, so I guess I'm set on this one. Wireless Network Adapter: Has good reviews, and I'm looking to connect to WiFi/Bluetooth at some point down the line so I added this part (since the motherboard doesn't support these natively). Monitor: Set on this. Keyboard: Not picky. Just want a nice keyboard with a number pad and RGB lighting. Came across this. Mouse: Even less picky than the keyboard. Seems reputable. Speakers: No one ever adds speakers in builds so I almost didn't even realize I would need these too. Has good reviews. Camera: Not listed, but does anyone have any recommendations for a camera for video calling? [link] [comments]
Which CPU should I get to pair with my GTX 1050? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:00 PM PDT Hey guys, I have question. Some time ago I bought a prebuilt PC out of ignorance, and since it was not enough for what I wanted to do (mostly gaming) I bought a GTX 1050 to boost it up a little bit. I did this a year after I bought it, and now that some time has passed I want to upgrade it so I can run my games more smoothly. I have an AMD A8-7650k and 4gb of DDR3 RAM, and the motherboard only supports APUs (A68HM-K), so I would have to change that too. The thing is, I don't know what to do, if I want to upgrade the CPU I necessarily need to change my mobo and buy new RAM, and maybe with all that the change in performance might not be that significant for the price, or maybe it is. That's what I don't know. I'm going to enter university next year, and I might not have a lot of time to play, so I don't think I'm planning on upgrading beyond this point. I don't intend to play really demanding games, I mostly play online games like League of Legends or CS:GO, and what I have now is enough for them, but every now and then I play something and it doesn't really run well. Hell, I can't even alt-tab in some games without my PC freezing and making everything a mess lol. So what do you guys think I should do, upgrade it, leave as it is (that's an option), or just upgrade to 8 gb of RAM because it's not worth it. Every opinion is welcome, and thank you in advance. Posted: 03 Jul 2018 02:57 PM PDT Hi, I'm curretly working with an older motherboard I have. It's a Z77-DS3H by Gigabyte and I'm using 2x4GB of RAM running at 1600Mhz. I'm about to upgrad my rig and thought about getting 16GB of RAM for a better performance. Since I already have 2x4GB of RAM I plan to simply add another 2x4GB of the exact same RAM model to get 16GB. Is this even technically possible with an older Z77 motherboard or is it better to ditch the 8GB I have and insted buy 2x8GB. I think the board only support dual channel memory. Does it mean that more than 2 sticks won't work? But then what's the reason to have 4 available slots for the RAM? Thanks [link] [comments]
I finished building my PC, but there is no sound. Which sound card should I buy? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 12:44 PM PDT So my computer parts came today and I put my build together. Turned it on and everything was great. My husband told me I didn't need a sound card and that he didn't have one so no need to buy one. Well, my Realtek Digital Output is not working or playing any sound. I've tested it on Spotify and YouTube. I hear nothing. I updated the drivers twice with troubleshooting and I don't hear anything. I've restarted my PC as well. I'm going to buy a sound card and hope that works. Anyone have any recommendations or solutions? [link] [comments]

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive. Ever since I installed my Vega 56, games crash after varying degrees of time. Never had the issue with the GTX 780 that I replaced. I've tried Just Cause 3, Wolfenstein Old Blood, Fortnite, Dishonored: DOTA, Tomb Raider: Dagger of Xian demo. All the same problem. Strangely, Furmark, 3d mark and any other benchmarking/stress tools I've tried don't crash - or haven't in the time I've ran them. Same goes for the latest Hitman game, though admittedly I've not run that for long periods. The system remains functional, but all games crash to desktop with different errors. Running a game again after the first crash tends to result in another crash shortly afterwards. List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem. Turning the profile to Power Save in WattMan (this allows games to be run for longer, but they still invariably crash). Updated BIOS to latest version. Different GPU driver versions, using DDU. Split PSU rails. Installed more powerful PSU. TdrDelay to 8. Set a more aggressive fan profile. Reinstalled Windows. Turned off XMP on the memory. Returned CPU to stock speeds. Monitored with hwinfo, didn't see anything obvious. Ran memtest overnight, nothing detected. Different kettle lead and wall sockets. Tried the GPU in another PC (2500K, Asus board, same software environment), without any issues. In fact, was able to overclock the card with complete stability. I've probably forgotten something, but that should pretty much cover it... Provide any additional details you wish below. I'm confident the card is working fine (confirmed by test above). My suspicions are motherboard/PCIe or memory. That's the only real hardware differentiation. The crashing shortly after an initial crash, plus the power saving mode stuff, seems to suggest a thermal issue. I've not got another 200-series motherboard to test with at the moment, though I may potentially have the opportunity to do so in my workplace shortly. Posted: 03 Jul 2018 05:57 AM PDT I'll be pairing it up with a GTX 1060 6gb. Long term in mind(3-5 years). Streaming is not a priority but i'm getting into video editing. I like emulation and i heard intel is the best for that. Both processors cost the same where I'm going to buy. P.S.: Motherboard suggestions would also be nice. [link] [comments] |
