Can't get the 'hidden' Google Weather app to work the right way.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 08:31 PM PDT

Hey there. I've used this app before with no issues, but for some reason, pressing the app icon just takes me to the 'Google page' (The one with the tiles and stuff). So my only option is to scroll down to the bottom and select the weather. Something I thought was peculiar was that the homescreen icon has Google's 'G' over it, which I know wasn't there when the app did work. Device is a Huawei Mate SE Running 8.0.0

    Thoughts?

Is it possible to block ads using adb?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 04:38 PM PDT

I usually use adaway but it breaks my Hotspot. Since it just replaces the host files, I was wondering is it also possible to block ads via adb?

Why is so hard to download an image from Google Images with Chrome and share it in chats with the recent image function?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 12:31 PM PDT

It appears as the file is downloaded but I can't find it in the download folder of my phone. Or using the Google Photos app.

There is notification which opens the image and on details it says path: /data/user/0/com.android.providers.downloads/cache/picture.jpg. Pressing the share button and then Facebook Messenger it days unsupported format.

It's way faster taking a screenshot of the image and crop it, than downloading, then sharing in telegram, then saving the image as, then sending in Facebook Messenger from the recent images section.

As long as I can remember this is happening form Android 5.

My first Android Personal Phone, Which would be best for me?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 09:49 PM PDT

So I'm sick of Apple, have been a IOS fanboy since its beginning. But I'm sick of them, utterly sick of them. So I want to purchase my first Android smartphone. (I do have an s8 active work phone).

But I am specific on my needs. I do NOT have social media. I got rid of Instagram and FB long ago. So my phone mostly is used to watch youtube video's, cast those videos and browse the net of occasion, as well as google hangout chats with friends. (Currently, I have an iphone SE). I do WANT a headphone jack and waterproof phone.

From all my research I believe, the S8 is one of the few phones (or s9) that fits that bill?

But I'm totally up for other suggestions!

    Google assistant activation phrase change?

I was wondering is there anyway to change the activation phrase for the Google assistant. It's kind of tedious for me to keep saying 'OK google'

Phone thinks memory is full, but I can't find anything to delete (Samsung Galaxy J7).

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 06:09 AM PDT

My Samsung Galaxy J7 is always telling me my phone is full or near-full. It tells me I need to delete apps just to update other apps. But for the life of me I can't find anything to delete that would account for this. It has 16GB. Here's what the storage readout says:

    --

    System/user data: 14.3 GB

    Unnecessary data: 5.25MB

    Available space: 1.7 GB

    -

    User Data:

    Documents: 56.99 MP

    Images: 20.27 MB

    Audio: 56.99 MB

    Videos: 0B

    Apps: 5.15 GB

    --

So... nothing that could account for the other 10GB I'm supposedly using. When I connect it to my computer it also tells me it's nearly full, but when I look through the file folders I can hardly find anything. I tried clearing the cache and this only freed up about 1 GB or so.

Can anybody help? Thanks so much if you can. This is driving me crazy.

Wi-Fi slowing down when Bluetooth is paired to any device.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 05:45 PM PDT

This issue starting happening around 2 weeks ago, every time I pair my device to anything, say Headphones or Joysticks, Wi-Fi goes from around 40-50mb on Wi-Fi to 2-3 which makes any kind of web browsing, video watching or gaming in general impossible.

This issue doesn't happen if Bluetooth is active but not paired.

The issue happens instantly, from the moment the devices are paired, the Wi-Fi dies.

It can be so bad the phone disconnects from Wi-Fi.

I tried a network reset, disabling Bluetooth scanning, Wi-Fi scanning. Not sure what to do.

i thought logging keystrokes was only possible by the currently running keyboard app?

    Emulating Tablet Android

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 04:11 PM PDT

I would like an application that emulates an Android Tablet device.

I want to use Kindle reader application (I know there is a PC version but you can't sync personal documents with it) with smaller displayed text. So I would like to simulate having a bigger screen.

I'm trying to find and app I used to have which was kind of an image gallery viewer but just for the WhatsApp media folder.

It allowed you to sort by date, size,, type, view .. etc etc

all while in a gallery view.

It was recommended on the comments here a couple months

Could I use my phone as a baby monitor somehow?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 03:40 PM PDT

    Hey!

So, my sister is coming over with my niece (8 months) - she would prefer to bring not too much luggage.

We were discussing baby monitors - and whether it would be possible to use our phones as one. Of course, we would still be in the house, it's more of a backup in case we wouldn't hear her as there is some construction work being done in the house next to mine.

Essentially, we'd leave one phone in the bedroom and take the other to the living room. Since it's not too loud all day long it would be best to somehow remotely activate the phone in the bedroom while the construction work is being done.

Is this possible? I've tried to do some research myself, but all I could find was software to get rid of wiretaps, so I think there might be no apps to do this due to the potential of someone abusing it.

So yes - any ideas how that could work without her bringing the baby monitor with her? We'd only need it for probably 3 hours spread over 2 days.

    Hey, guys!

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 01:08 PM PDT

For the last few weeks I've had trouble with my Samsung Galaxy S5 overheating. Since many people recommended turning off Smart Network Switch, I want to try that, too, but I can't find the switch since it is not in options>wifi>advanced.

The model is SM-G900F and my current Android-version is 6.0.1. Does anybody know where I can find the switch?

Thank you very much for your time :)

Galaxy s9+ keeps turning off when locked

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 01:27 PM PDT

Hi guys. My Galaxy s9+ keeps turning off after a little bit of non-use. I've tried wiping the cache partition as well as launching it in safe mode. Nothing seems to be helping. There's a slight possibility of water damage because some liquid was spilled on it (not a ton, but it's still a possibility) however the phone works perfectly fine while I'm using it, it's just after some inactivity when it turns off

    Working G930VVZW4API3 firmware link?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 11:15 AM PDT

Duplicate links with Rapidgator/Alfafile premium download scams populate Google, and I can't find an actual link. I paid the $15 for Rapidgator, not knowing it was a fake site. My phone is bootlooping from a faulty Odin file and this is the only way to fix it.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active has stuck volume buttons due to gunk build-up. Seems impossible to clean.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 11:12 AM PDT

Title says it all. Both buttons are stuck. There is no gap between the phone and the button that allows for rubbing alcohol to drip through or a needle to slip in. What should I try next?

Is there a way(setting or app), that when certain apps are running (spotify/ pandora/ amazon) to keep the screen from going to sleep and locking? I like being able to see the screen and skipping, favoriting, etc.. without having to unlock the screen.

High performance LAN file transfer from Linux to external SD card

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 10:45 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a way to transfer files from a Linux Desktop to a SD card in an Android phone running LineageOS 15.1 over the local network. I don't want to use anything cloud-based. Root access is available.

    Things I've tried already:

    • Mount SSHDroid with sshfs: Performance is very CPU-limited on the phone side due to encryption.
    • Mount SSHelper with sshfs: Can't write to the external sd card, only internal storage. Would likely have performance problems too.
    • Ultimate Servers FTP server with Filezilla: Can't write to the external sd card, only internal storage.
    • WiFi FTP Server with Filezilla: Can't write to the external sd card, only internal storage.
    • AirDroid: Cloud-based (requires registration with provider)

Does anyone have ideas on other methods I could try?

    Huawei P8 lite reboot loop

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 01:32 PM PDT

My phone suddenly turned the volume up and opened whatever links were on screen. I pressed the power button and three options came up: Reboot system now, Wipe data/factory reset and Wipe cache partition. This is not the first time it happened. Last time I remember removing the battery despite being advised not to do so and everything was ok again. I tried doing the same thing again but it almost felt like another phone. It took me 40 minutes of trying and I decided not to open the cover in the end. I peeked inside and I don't remember half the stuff it has in there. The thing is I remember the battery being black and yet the only possible battery in there is a gold color. Whatever option I choose after a few seconds of black screen the same three possible choices appear again and again just as last time.
What should I do? It says the battery cover is unremovable and yet I clearly remember removing it last time. I'm confused.

Seeking help retrieving photos from damaged Moto X Pure.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 01:11 PM PDT

First post here - apologies if I'm breaching etiquette in any way.

Some time back, I dropped my Moto X Pure, cracking the glass on the corners of the bezel. It worked OK for a while after that, but eventually the touchscreen started behaving erratically, so I replaced it. This summer, a student of mine borrowed it to use as a beater camera/email device while traveling in some rugged conditions. Over the course of the trip, the screen went dead. The student's photos weren't backed up (no reliable internet access where they were) and we'd love to retrieve them if at all possible. The phone is locked with a pattern, rather than a PIN, if that makes any difference. I have access to the Google account the phone is attached to.
