    Earphone Volume for Mi A1

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 06:23 PM PDT

Hey guys, just a quick question. Recently the A1 received a 50mb-60mb update which was supposed to be a bug fix update after the May security patch. After the update however I've noticed the earphone volume is lower than before. Now at 100% it sounds like it's at 60%. Anyone else experience this?

After way too much research I got a Mi A1 and it's amazing.

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 07:09 AM PDT

I'm coming from what was a pretty much broken 2014 Moto G with 1/8GB configuration. I didn't really wanted to upgrade, but it dying at 30% more and more frequently and randomly dying to only ressurect after a full day on a charge, and also accounting to the fact that the back cover kept coming off, the jack was seriously ruined, in call audio didn't work most of the time, random reboots… You know, all the "I only have like 2 weeks left so backup" signs. I did plenty of research: I wanted something officially supported in Italy, so I had to use Amazon and no imports. I boiled my choice down to the redmi 5 plus and mi a1. Tried both in hand at a store, decided I couldn't get behind MIUI (I'm a software purist with strong opinions, even stuff like Windows 10 bloatware infuriates me) and truth be told I'm amazed!

The battery life is fantastic. Pretty much immortal. It's not as big as the Redmi, but stock software really helps out with that. The in hand feel is 💯. Audio experience? Oh my GOSH. I might have found something that finally matches my iPod in terms of audio quality. Both with and without headphones it's flipping amazing. There is no doubt this amp can do its job. The speed is absolutely instantaneous, and I do care about that stuff. It feels like a Pixel, consistently nippy as fuck. I was worried I couldn't get behind the navigation buttons, but - what a tragedy! - I had to take 2 minutes to adjust and it now comes naturally. USB C is amazing and the camera is pretty solid, too. And the software… Wow. At boot the app drawer wasn't even full. This is literally heaven for an user like me. I wouldn't change anything about it. This is Android to its state of perfection, with all my Google services I am way too invested into working flawlessly.

What can I say? If you're on the edge, €180 for a 4/64 phone that runs stock Android is a pretty sweet deal. This is my first Xiaomi, but it sure as hell won't be my last!

My experience with buying a Redmi 5 Plus with a vendor ROM installed, and trying replace it with Global ROM .

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 03:36 AM PDT

Yesterday, I got my Redmi 5 Plus delivered from dxcd.ph from Shopee Philippines. When I got the phone, I discovered that it came with a Vendor ROM (9.2.6.0 NEGMIEK) and whenever I check the status (under Development Options), it shows a fake screen that the bootloader is already unlocked. Oh and I tried checking for updates, but it told me that the phone is already updated.

I downloaded the latest stock Global ROM, and tried flashing using fastboot. I noticed that it says "critical partition flashing is not allowed" as soon as I start flashing it. I was puzzled and went back to developer settings and ensured that "OEM unlocking" was enabled. Tried unlocking again, and same thing happened.

Then I decided to check the bootloader status within fastboot by typing: fastboot oem device-info. I saw that the value under "Device Unlocked" is set to false. From there, I tried googling the build number of the current ROM installed, and sure enough, I have a Vendor ROM. I tried unlocking the bootloader via Mi Unlock but it would say that my account is not bound to the device, despite that I'm already logged in.

I booted back up into MIUI and used "XiaoMiTool" to flash it to a Global ROM, flashing was successful. But it would reboot into recovery, and tells me that MIUI cannot be installed on this device.

From there, I decided to disassemble the phone, disconnect the battery, shorted out two pins using tweezers, and connected into the computer. Then I used MiFlash to try and flash Global ROM (again), flashed successfully, and reconnected the battery. Same same thing happened and got the "MIUI cannot be installed on this device" error. One side of the phone was a bit beat up from trying to get the cover off, but it's no big deal. The damage is very minimal, and I could just buy another cover if it really bothers me, and I'll be putting it in a case anyway.

Then I downloaded China developer ROM, and tried flashing again using MiFlash. but this time, it booted up successfully. From there, I tried to unlock the bootloader using the latest Mi Unlock, but kept telling me that I needed to wait 360 hours.

I posted about it here, and someone linked me to a guide how to bypass the 360 hour wait. I didn't try it until today, and IT WORKED. From there, I was able to flash Global ROM, and got it booting successfully.

    Redmi 5 (SD 450; 4/64 GB) AMA

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 10:42 AM PDT

So I know there isn't an official thread for the Redmi 5, on this sub and I decided to make one, since I got the device to replace my Redmi 4X Santoni.

This is a snappy little device and a proper upgrade over the 435 found on the 4X (which though a fan favorite, has begin to show it's age).

And although it's larger than the previous gen 'Redmi' line-up, it's still a very nice, solid, compact device with a nice weight to it and a build quality which far belies it's price.

Now I haven't rooted the device and generally just slap Nova launcher over MIUI, since it works mostly fine for me (except when it doesn't and I return the device; some Xiaomi devices I have used had a very specific problem of not being able to send messages over VoLTE. I could receive messages just fine, just not send any, unless I disabled VoLTE, and even then, these would be delivered slow. I am on Vodafone and I have tested the same sim with other devices and it worked flawlessly. I had this issue on my Mix 2 and most recently on my Redmi 5 Plus which I returned today. Also note, thus far, beside turning off VoLTE, there seems to be no solution to this and the folk over at the MIUI forums continue to blatantly ignore this issue).

With that out of the way, if you fine folk have any specific questions you'd like answered about the device, or are contemplating picking one up, feel free to AMA.

    Cheers!

Regarding Face id on the mi8 and mi8 EE

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 12:57 PM PDT

Hi, so from what I read, the mi 8 explorer edition has the true face id with infrarred sensors, and the normal mi8 doesn't, right? So if I want a true face id I should go for the EE? Bold move there tho, but considering how cheap it is and how amazing it is, I wouldn't mind

    Updating Resurrection Remix

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 09:23 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I'm interested in flashing resurrection remix on my redmi note 5 global. I think I know how to do this, the wiki is pretty clear. However I have some questions regarding updating resurrection remix:

    1. Is updating resurrection remix without losing data possible? I think I read you can just flash an updated ROM over your old one if it's the same android version (dirty flashing) but will this lead to problems down the road?

    2. I found a post from a while back: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/6lohoa/lineage_os_vs_ressurection_remix/djw4j16/ How does this method work? As far as I can tell it's a bit different from a dirty flash because you don't just simply flash a new ROM.

    3. Will I lose root if I flash an updated ROM? If so, what can I do to prevent it or regain root?

    Thanks in advance!

    Xiaomi Air 13,3 upgrading RAM

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 12:30 PM PDT

I have my Xiaomi for about half a year now even more and it's just perfect for me but I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the RAM.

I know there are no RAM-Slots and it is a RAM-Chip but technically you could solder of the old RAM solder of some Capasitors and upgrade the 8GB to 16GB - I mean I saw someone doing this with a Macbook Air "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTsEJ49LLsQ" so why should it not work on the Xiaomi Air 13?
