[Other] Are you sick of ads on your Samsung TV?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 10:39 AM PDT

We need to raise all hell to get samsung to fix this. I've contacted news outlets, filed BBB complaints, along with my state attorney general, and so far samsung's responses have been a big "f you"

On every smart television they manufacture, there are adverts displayed in the main UI of the TV's interface. This is not configurable, this is not something users can turn off or opt-out of, this is a permanent "feature" of the tv.

A massive count of users have taken to the samsung forums, reddit, social media, and other platforms to express their concern over having no control of their hardware. The adverts are distracting, mess up how you use the TV by creating inconsistent UI, sometimes inappropriate for younger family members, and provide us absolutely no benefit. Samsung has responded to users by stating they would push an update out to fix this. This claim has been made by Samsung's twitter responses to social media complaints, and the mega thread on samsung's forum regarding this lack of control over adverts displaying. Samsung had also claimed the ads were not coming from their platform, but in fact they were coming from applications that were installed. Users attempted to unisntall every application, but you are not allowed to uninstall all of them. In addition, users are also getting ads for brand new Samsung TVs, myself I've gotten an ad for a new OLED samsung TV, on my brand new $3,000 Samsung Frame TV. It's been more than a year since these claims by samsung to fix it were made, and we are still stuck with nothing. Users have found workarounds to prevent the ads, however samsung has pushed firmware updates that made the ads come back.

I filed a complaint with the BBB, gave them all the details, and was shortly after contacted by a Samsung representative at the "Office of the President", Amber H. She stated that the terms I agreed to when setting up the TV allow Samsung to do whatever the hell they want on my TV. This was an interesting point since I explicitly did NOT agree to any terms when setting up my TV. I refused any terms, and wanted to use the TV as a dumb input device. Even then, I still got ads in the main UI. Amber told me despite what every user wished for, they would not make fixes to the products. I adamantly expressed dissatisfaction with the product, the negative impact the ads had, and the lack of control over the hardware I rightfully owned, and she told us we agreed to this. I saw nowhere in any of Samsung's product listings that you were opted-in to ads on your TV, and you had no way to disable them. This was an undisclosed "feature." After Amber and I going back and forth, the BBB complaint was unsatisfactorily closed. I was not done, so I contacted my state attorney general to escalate this. I notified Amber that I forwarded our conversation to my attorney general, and she condescendingly advised me that nothing would change.

Samsung has made empty promises, directly lied, and misrepresents the products they sell. Then they refuse to make you happy after you've made your purchase, and continue to cash in on the ads they serve on their smart TV platform. Why the hell do they need more cash when my TV was $3

Samsung needs to be corrected and fix their products before the precedence is set that users get no control over their hardware and are force fed ads.

You bought the TV. You own it.

Please take the time to read through all the comments on those forums. Please spread the news, please contact me for any additional info you may need. Please file complaints with your local attorney generals, BBB, open support tickets with samsung, let's tell them who owns who! Thank you.

If you silently downvote, I'm happy to have a discussion on why you factually disagree with this post. Thanks again!

    Help with Texts

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 08:28 AM PDT

    Hi,

I have a Galaxy S6, yeah I'm due for an upgrade. My problem is texting someone with an iPhone 7. If I text her, she'll get the message but I don't see anything on my screen. Nor do I see any texts that she sends. I'm on ATT, she's on Verizon.

Her number isn't blocked, I tried the 1-areacode trick I found and the +1-areacode one and neither of those worked. I've never had an iOS device so I don't think it's that one either. We can text each other fine if we do a group chat via MMS, but standard SMS don't work.

Any ideas? Also, if this isn't the right place for tech support, can someone direct me to that? Thanks.

    Note 4 issues

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 05:58 AM PDT

So a year back I bought a refurbished note 4 off eBay and now I cannot get it to stay on for over a day straight. I use it to run an app called cash magnet because it has never lasted me more than an hour of battery life and I cracked it. The issue is battery drainage. Except it's not the battery...I have 2 different batteries and the same issue.

Then when it does shut off, the amazing phone decides to only restart back on when put in the freezer for 5 minutes (w/o battery of course). So does anyone know what I can do before 1. I throw it against a wall out of anger

Or 2. It eventually never turns on again.

FYI for those not familiar w battery drainage it's when it will be charging at 99% percent then bam it shuts off (not like gradual drainage)

    Thanks

New Burn-in Migitations on Galaxy S9?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 05:51 AM PDT

Soo today I was told by a Samsung represetive that Galaxy S9 has a new burnin migitation tecnique builtin to significantly prevent screen burnins. At first of course I didn't buy it but after checking some phones at the retailer store, all Note 8s and S8s are burntin but only s9 and s9 plus didn't. So I was wondering if its true or just a lie to make me buy the S9 instead of Note 8?

It's current year...why does Bluetooth still mess up my Galaxy S8 and what can I do about it?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 03:26 AM PDT

Most of the time it won't connect automatically, and sometimes it won't connect manually, even to paired devices. When it does, it's unreliable. Sometimes the phone hangs. Sometimes it overheats. Sometimes it knocks out the functionality of other apps (Waze and Castbox are frequently affected, Spotify too). Sometimes it won't turn off!

Bluetooth mishaps have been a feature of my S4, my S6 and now my S8. Am I just dreadfully unlucky, or is Bluetooth really such a big problem for Samsungs?

If so, why? And what can I do about it?

After trying everywhere for stock firmware, all sites have a download speed of <100kbps.

Finally found those that have a high speed download feature.

I lost some photos after doing a factory reset on a s9+, is there anyway I can get them back?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 11:06 PM PDT

I'm looking for a safe way to retrieve the photos, no root. I don't mind paying for something, but it needs to show me proof that it indeed has the photos. Any help is appreciated.

    Safe/optimal temperature for s9+?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 07:07 PM PDT

Ive been monitoring my device temperature. On average when idle, the cpu would sit around 40c, when i play PUBG it gets much more warmer and would hover around 60c. Is that bad and should I be worried? The device in question is not even a week old.

Trying to Decide | I've Heard Bad Things

    Posted: 31 May 2018 06:47 PM PDT

So I'm considering a new phone and have been deadset on Apple. But recently the S9 has caught my attention and I'm having second thoughts. I've had experience with the S2 and S3, but they were always a little quirky and laggy and really turned me off from the whole Android thing.

Looking into it I'm seeing that it might still be a problem. Maybe not when it's new, but after a while. This is from videos on YouTube.

Is this true for most of you? If so how bad? I just want some insight and maybe any other input in this regard. Honesty would be appreciated.
