Best, Trustworthy FTP Client for Windows 10?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 05:45 AM PDT

Since FileZilla is confirmed sketchy with what seems to be hidden malware in the installer, what's the best FTP client to use?

WinSCP seems to be the next recommended one up, but .... what a ghastly interface.

SSD reporting almost full, but manual check of files reveals only 30% usage?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 01:32 PM PDT

I have a SSD boot drive and window updates keep failing due to lack of space. When I look at the drive it reports that it's got about 10 gigs left, of a total of 110 gigs. However, when I go into the drive, select all folders (including hidden) it reports a total memory usage of about 34 gigs?

So where is this additional 75 gigs? I'm trying to clear space, but there is simply nothing left to delete except core windows files?

[PSA] "Roaming profile was not completely synchronized" error and logon, logoff delays on Windows 10 Version 1803, working registry export

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:22 AM PDT

Recently, we encountered a problem with roaming profiles that would not correctly sync when logging off. Microsoft is apparently aware of the problem, however the suggested workaround requires you to have a working win10 1709 (or older) in order to export the registry key.

We exported the key for you, so if you encounter the above problem, you only have to import the key.

Simply copy & paste the following into notepad, save as "roaming_fix.reg", import on affected machines, done.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "ExcludeProfileDirs"="AppData\\Local;AppData\\LocalLow;$Recycle.Bin;OneDrive;Work Folders"

Windows support saved me from a lot of work!!

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:15 PM PDT

Now I hate almost all companies live support but Microsoft's support is the one of the few seemed to give a **** about me. Now there's gonna be a long story ahead but TLDR in the end if you want to skip it.

I recently changed hardware (Mobo). I linked windows to my MS account a long time ago, However my dumbass did a reset before installing the new hardware and forgot to relink my windows liscence to my account. The only way to fix this was to either buy windows again or to do a lot of stuff including ( removing the new mobo, Reinstalling the old mobo, Linking my account to the windows, Removing the old mobo, Reinstalling the new mobo.) and since this was my first time installing a motherboard I was nervous enough as it is.

I thought I should give Microsoft support a try. I told them about my situation and that it would be very time consuming to do all those steps. Microsoft could have just forced me to do all those steps and they would have been in the right since I was the one that messed up. To my surprise, The guy I was talking to was very helpful and after confirming my identity and confirming that I did change the motherboard (By checking a receipt ). He gave me a new product key and linked it to my MS account, Saving me a lot of time. I don't think many other companies would have done that since I was the one that was too tired, lazy and inexperienced to do all those steps.

Microsoft support chose to help me when they could have just said "Git Good" and forced me to either do all those steps or to buy windows again and that's why I respect Microsoft for doing so. If The roles were reversed and I was the one in live support I would have hesitated to help me.

Tl:DR, I messed up by not correctly linking my digital liscence to my MS account and Microsoft gave me a new product key, reactivated my windows and linked it to my account correctly.

Win install on a new build but going wrong for me now - Help

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 08:31 AM PDT

Hello, I have built my own PC, so far, so good. However, I have come to a complete and utter roadblock in trying to clean install Win 10. I was using the laptop to downloaded files etc.. First off, I downloaded to USB as instructed and tried booting the PC. After entering the OEM key and progressing for a while, an error came up, … error code 0x8007025D, Ctrl Alt Del to refresh etc.. I was told that perhaps I should download win 10 with the ISO option, and save to USB the ISO file using Rufus.. Again, I followed the Microsoft instructions. The Win file downloaded into WinRAR. Rufus picked this file up and saved onto the USB. When I booted the PC with the USB, this error came up.. "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system.. However, this message also comes up when start up the PC without the USB in. It may useful to say that I am trying to load onto a 500GB SSD, and that when I loaded the first time a partition was created by the boot USB. If you can help, that would be awesome.. Cheers

How to assign specific application to speakers while others application will be on headphones

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 02:26 PM PDT

    Hello,

Here is the situation that I'm facing:

My girlfriend wants to see a movie in one screen that connected to the computer while I want to play a video game and to use another screen on the same computer.

Is it possible that she will watch and the audio of the movie (Chrome / BSPlayer) will be out to the speakers while I play a video game and the audio of the video game will be out to the headphones?

Or only the movie audio goes to speakers while all the rest audio of the PC will be going to the headphones

    Thanks in advance

    Issue with System 32

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 10:37 AM PDT

(before reading: This is a issue that affects multiple apps on my Windows 10 Home PC, I dont know where to really put this post, so i chose this subreddit. If you have a idea where I should put this post, please pm it to me)

    Hello,

Im having a issue with my Windows computer, more specifically, a file called Webio.dll in system 32. Let me describe the story on whats my situation.

I was opening up a game that uses Battleye Anti-Cheat engine (more specifically Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Seige) . When I opened the game, I had received a error message from Battleye with the message:

    Error: Could not read Webio.dll

So, I thought to myself, "Well, Im just going to open up CMD and do the command sfc /scannow, and all will be fixed!".

    I was wrong.

The scan finished, but it said that (and Im going to summarize this): That the scan found that files were corrupted, but could not fix them. So, I checked the logs file of the scan, and lo and behold, the file Webio.dll could not be fixed due to it being corrupted.

Then, I thought to myself again, "Well %^#@, that did not work, lets try it again in safe mode."

Well, that did not work either.

Pissed off of the fact that its being stubborn, I thought, "Well, the command did not work, so lets try and manually replace the file."

So, I got a copy of the file on www.dll-files.com and got a fresh file of webio.dll.

I opened up the .rar file and put it in system 32. I got a message saying that there is already a file there called the same thing, so I hit replace. It says that I need permission in order to change the file, so I hit continue.

    Then It shows a message:

You do not have permission to preform this action.

"I am the administrator on the computer, and there are no other accounts on my PC, so I have the permissions, But wait! I need to give myself permissions in order to access it!", I remember.

Now here is where I want to sell my PC as scrap parts.

I gave myself permissions using the properties tab, give myself all permissions and hit done. Then I attempt to put the new file in. I go thru the process of putting the file in the folder annnnnnnnnnnnnd It shows a message:

You do not have permission to preform this action.

"Okay, i must have messed up somewhere in giving my self the permissions." I think

So, I install a tool that gives takes ownership and gives permissions to a file if you right click on it.

I tried that then attempt to put in the new file:

You do not have permission to preform this action.

I am really at my wits end at that point, so I googled "How to take ownership of system 32".

I come across a blog post talking about DELETING system 32, but they have a section showing how to gain ownership of system 32.

    Its a cmd command: takeown /f C:\Windows\System32 .

I did this, it said success, then I put in the new copy of webio.dll into the folder getting a message.

You do not have permission to preform this action.

At this point I just say "Fuck it.", and tried to do a fresh restart on my pc, and encountered a error message.

There was a problem resetting your pc. No files were changed.

    End of story.

Sorry for the loooooooooong explanation of my situation, but I dont really know what to do. I do have a disk with windows 10 on it. So what do I do now? Do attempt a fresh restart WITH the disk in? Do I take it so a professional? I really am tired of this situation.

Keyboard and Touchpad drivers not working on Terra 1541H

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 09:33 AM PDT

Terra Mobile 1541H - Wortmann ag

    Specs:

    8GB RAM

    64 bit Windows 10 Pro

    CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210M CPU @ 2.60 GHz

    Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB

    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600

Touchpad driver: Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad

    Keyboard driver: ELAN EzTouchFilter

    EDIT:

You can download the drivers from:

    https://www.wortmann.de/en-gb/systeminformation.aspx

Where you input your serial number and your operating system.

Sadly its in German so it will take some time to find the right drivers. It helped me a lot, and didn't realize that this page actually existed. The Terra notebooks are probably not that popular and well known. I hope I helped some people that might had the same problems.

Also beware of Driver Pack solution. It might be a virus which downloads fake drivers or incompatible drivers. Thats what caused the problem in the first place.

Plugged in harddrive which turns out is corrupt, windows now wont boot

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 12:57 PM PDT

Not sure if this goes in this sub and any help is appreciated!

So I have an SSD with Windows installed on, a 1tb hdd with everything else and plugged in another hard drive today which turns out I think was corrupted, unplugged the hard drive, and no boot. Unplugged the 1tb hdd so only my boot ssd is plugged in

Can't boot to windows at all, no safe mode either. Can only get to windows repair which then fails and leads me to trouble shoot, the SSD is full so I can't reset the PC because it asks me to clear space which I can't do because I can't boot to windows.

    Thanks for any help

    Bluetooth slider missing?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 08:03 AM PDT

Basically, for some reason today my bluetooth drivers on my PC completely tanked, and disabled themselves.

I've tried a couple of different things to get them working but no dice, here's what I've tried:

    1. Restarted and updated drivers in device manager.
    2. Removed bluetooth drivers from device manager. I then scanned for hardware changes, but this didn't reinstall the drivers.
    3. I manually reinstalled the drivers for my motherboard, but they didn't appear in the device manager.
    4. I tried a system restore point to 4 days ago, but it isn't restoring due to what I assume is an unrelated error.

    Any ideas? My specs are:

    • Intel i7-7700k
    • Asus RoG z270i Strix
    • GTX 1070 Ti

Not sure if it helps, but the headphones that I was using when the issue happened was the Bose QC35.

I tried to run the Bluetooth troubleshooter, but it just told me that my PC does not support Bluetooth and that I need an adapter... but I was using Bluetooth headphones a few days ago so I know that is not the case.

    Any help?

Stuck in automatic repair / troubleshooting screen, and I can’t even reset my PC.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 07:27 AM PDT

When I turn on my PC, it says preparing automatic repair, then it tells me to choose keyboard layout, then troubleshooting or turn off, then I click troubleshooting and I have these options:

    • System restore
    • Go back to previous version
    • System image recovery
    • Start up repair
    • Command prompt.

The only one that works is CMD, and I've done the regback thing on YouTube, and that didn't work for me. When I try to reset the PC (which was my last resort because I don't want to lose everything) it doesn't even let me do that. It just says 'To use system restore, you must specify which windows installation to restore, restart this computer, select an operating system and then select system restore.

Any help would be hugely appreciated, this is like a nightmare, and it hasn't happened before. None of the other options apart from CMD do anything... :(

How do I figure out if my pc was reset??

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 10:34 AM PDT

I recently took my laptop to a repair shop and when it came back all my files and applications in the laptop were gone, and the login screen did not have my name nor did it require a password. Whenever I turn on my laptop it displays "Me" as the username and directly logs into the computer without asking for a password. I want to know if the laptop has been reset or if it is in some sort of "guest mode".

It's not possible to make the "Fix apps that are blurry" notification reappear after disabling it. MUST REFORMAT

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:51 PM PDT

Hello, so I stupidly decided to try playing Crusader Kings 2 on a 4k TV and was met with the worlds tiniest UI ever. After a lot of research and failed mods, I realized the internet's general consensus is to just play the game fullscreen in 1080p.

The notification kept popping up in the bottom corner about "Fixing apps that are blurry" while I attempted this, which I'm used to seeing for many games. A glitch occured where it kept popping up over the game and finally I just clicked the button to not prompt me anymore. I am about to reformat my computer because of this click.

I've went to the advanced scaling settings and renabled the check to "Let Windows try to fix apps so they're not blurry" again but it doesn't do anything. I can open a million under-resolution games and cause all sorts of desktop and window warping, usually causing it so that my taskbar opens up behind my toolbar, etc... - but it NEVER prompts me asking to fix blurry things anymore. Because of this I have to restart my computer after each time to correct the screen...

I've already loaded up a restore point from June 22nd (the oldest I have) which was significantly before I told that one fucking notification to not prompt me anymore. Nothing has fixed this. I can't find a fricking option anywhere to reenable that notification prompt.

Any help would be appreciated as I've already slammed my fucking keyboard and mouse 10 times tonight over this because I just know I'm going to have to reformat and lose everything over this stupid. little. minor. windows. 10. annoyance.

Why does this annoying bug still exist in every windows?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:52 PM PDT

I do a lot of ID3 tag renaming. Organizing mp3 files for music albums or podcasts or whatever.

About 30% of the time When I change comment and description one or both of them do not save. Regardless if I hit [OK] or [Accept] .

It seems random. I was also thinking that maybe sometimes when I copy text from websites or documents that it copies some sort of invisible characters that cause it to not save? EG; if you highlight a text in a doc or on a website all the way to the final sentence's period it can highlight some blank space(s) after or before the sentence.

Anyone have any idea about this or what causes it so I can fix it or avoid it?

Its very annoying, especially when you forget about it and close the website you copied from and then have to pull it up again..
