5 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 62) Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:48 AM PDT Happy Friday, everyone! :) It has been a fantastic week of mobile gaming for me, so here are my 5 quick tl;dr recommendations of mobile games I played this week. Am I wrong about these games? Let's have a friendly discussion below. New to these posts? Check out the first one from 62 weeks ago here. The games games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is. Here be 5 games!Brawl Stars [Game Size: 574 MB] (free)Genre: MOBA / Real-time PVP / Action / Brawler - Online tl;dr review: (unreleased) Brawl Stars is a casual mobile moba game by Supercell with 1-3 minute session lengths and a variety of game-modes (3v3, battle royale etc.) that focus less on destroying towers and more on raw PVP with a single objective, such as collecting 10 diamonds as a team and surviving with them for 15 seconds. The core gameplay is fun and the art / UI extremely polished, and instead of lootboxes to unlock new characters, we have a single box that requires xx amount of keys to open, with a limit on the amount of keys we can acquire before we have to wait a few hours. The big difference from the Clash Royale system is that in Brawl Stars you don't feel like you're being "punished" if you keep playing even though you can't get more keys right now, whereas in Crash Royale you felt punished when you won a match and were told you didn't have room for more lootboxes. Yes, you can buy iAP to level up your heroes faster, but this doesn't impact the gameplay experience of a free player much, as players who spend money quickly rise to the higher tiers, which means we won't meet them again before our heroes are just as high level. Google Play: Here First Impressions / Review: Here Darkness Rises [Total Game Size: 1.49 GB] (free)Genre: RPG / PVP / Gacha - Online tl;dr review: Despite the gender-locked classes, Darkness Rises is an amazing-looking RPG with both singleplayer missions and real-time multiplayer PVP. The combat is fast-paced, fluid, and I've never seen anything as awesome in an RPG on mobile before! Combat scenes best compares to Honkai Impact 3rd, except Darkness Rises is of course not anime. The story has a high quality English voice-over, the combat forces us to pick which skills we want to focus on, and even allows for combo skill, which makes the combat less dull. With all that good stuff said, the game has many gacha RPG elements (items that needs to be upgraded, lots of rewards and chests etc.), and there's an energy system and auto combat too. Overall, the real-time combat entices me and the combat is badass enough that I'd definitely recommend checking this one out. Google Play: Here First Impressions / Review: Here Grow Castle [Game Size: 113 MB] (free)Genre: Tower Defense / Arcade - Offline tl;dr review: Grow Castle took me back to the good old flash browser gaming days with its familiar 2D side-view Tower Defense gameplay where we upgrade and deploy new units in-between waves. The game is genuinely fun and kept me entertained for hours. And although the combat gets a bit repetitive, all the upgrades and constant progression kept me hooked (there's a lot more to this game than can be explained in a few sentences - more info in the video). The monetization is fine too - the incentivized ads are not too intrusive, and free premium currency is rewarded after every battle. Buying more will make you progress quicker, but I never felt stuck nor forced to buy anything. Google Play: Here First Impressions / Review: Here Cosmic Showdown [Total Game Size: 182 MB] (free)Genre: Strategy / Tower Defense / Sci-Fi - Online tl;dr review: A brand new "unreleased" real-time PVP strategy / Tower Defense game set in a 2D Sci-Fi world. With our mothership on the left and the opponent's on the right, we deploy different types of guns "cards" in Clash Royale style, as we slowly work our way closer to the opponent's mothership until we can take it out. No info on whether or not accounts will reset after the beta is over, and I am confident we're fighting bots in most battles, but if you are looking to get in early on a new game of this type, then Cosmic Showdown is good fun. Google Play: Here First Impressions / Review: Here ARK: Survival Evolved [Total Game Size: 2.12 GB] (free)Genre: Survival / Adventure - Online tl;dr review: Although the core gameplay of ARK is fun and with unique features like the "taming" system, has the potential to be one of the best adventure survival games on mobile, the current performance of the game makes it unplayable. The game lags on my Galaxy S8+ even on low graphics settings, it runs the phone hot, and drains the battery faster than any other game I've played. And some of the swipe control mechanics are honestly not very well made either. There is both a singleplayer and multiplayer mode, however, which is rare for survival games on mobile, and with some optimizations, the game could become great. Monetization happens primarily through exp speed boost. Google Play: Here First Impressions / Review: Here Google Sheet of all games I've played so far (searchable and filter-able): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bf0OxtVxrboZqyEh01AxJYUUqHm8tEfh-Lx-SugcrzY/edit?usp=sharing TL;DR Video Summary (with gameplay) of last week's 5 games: https://youtu.be/6luiF_z1VSQ [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2018 05:32 PM PDT I've been craving rpgs recently and was wondering what are some good ones that can be played on mobile (emulators included). If anyone has some good suggestions feel free to let me know! [link] [comments]
Recommend me games for when I'm being dad Posted: 29 Jun 2018 07:30 PM PDT I'm currently draped by my little one that is fast asleep. While cute to look at, this gets boring fast. So, recommend me some mobile games to pass the time, please? More keen on those games that can be played in short bursts. [link] [comments]
Last Day on Earth vs Prey Day Survival Posted: 29 Jun 2018 07:44 PM PDT Wow, this video is growing way faster than my normal videos. I guess people are really curious about how the two game compare: Here is the video: https://youtu.be/1X5wyvS2KT0 And here is the video script for those of you who rather read: Yesterday I posted a video comparing three last day on earth type games that are very similar, but have different nuances to what those development teams focus on. Today, I am comparing last day on Earth versus prey day survival and while they are still the same genre of game, these two games have a lot more differences than those other three games. In order to give a proper comparison of these two games, I'm going to compare them using these eight categories. Each of these games have different strengths and by understanding those strengths, you should be able to get a good picture of what game best fits your desires. First, let's talk about graphics. This one's kind of easy for me. Last day in Earth has way better graphics than prey day survival. It has better images, better resolution and a much faster gameplay frame rate. Some people have argued that prey survival is more enjoyable to them in this area because it has less lag and while that may be true of someone with a low-end phone or of previous versions of last day on Earth, this is not true of last day on earth's current version in update 1.8.7. Last day on Earth may still have a little bit more lag than prey day, but in the area of graphics using their current versions, last day on Earth blows pray day out of the water. Second, let's talk about balanced tiering. No matter how talented you are in last day on Earth, if you use SWAT gear and guns to Farm for wood and stone, you will never gained enough resources to make up for what it costs you. Technically you can't even build real guns yet in last day on Earth, but you get the point. If bunker Alfa didn't give us so much SWAT gear, we would not be crafting very much of it because of the crazy amount of grinding required to craft it. However, even though it is expensive to do the research required to get high-tier items in prey day survival, once you successfully research them, the price per durability of those items are sometimes just as affordable as the lower-tier item. Which makes you feel like you are actually advancing in the game. I haven't had to use a stone knife in over a week and just recently I traded away 9 baseball bats because I realized I would never need to use them again. I'm not to the point that I can only use guns yet, but I feel like I'm getting there. I definitely have enough machetes to last a long time. So by making a softer scaling system for higher tier items, getting resources you need gets easier and easier as you advance in the game. This brings us into the third category of grinding. Some of my subscribers have expressed that they think that prey day requires a lot of grinding. You are mistaken. You are probably just looking in the wrong place for items. If you look at my prey day survival livestreams and videos, you will see that even though I have a full-time job, a wife and 3 kids that I spend time with, and I make videos, I was able to get every crafting table in the game within 8 days of starting the game and now I am able to craft for myself all of the highest tier items in the game. I promise you that that is not possible in last day on Earth. I will be posting videos on how to get those items in prey day survival soon, but I wanted to get these videos done first. Prey day survival is way less of a grind then last day on Earth and as I mentioned earlier, the game gets way easier as you advance in the game. Now part of this is because pray day knows that you will need extra resources for PvP. So when last day on Earth gets PVP, I imagine they will change their scaling system to give us extra resources to account for that. This brings us to the fourth category of Multiplayer. Now many of you might think that I am just going to say that Prey Day survival is way more advanced in multiplayer than last day on Earth, but there are more nuances to it than that. It is true that prey day survival has PVP and Clans and Cooperative challenges and the ability to trade items and pretty much all the things that we want last day on Earth to have, but what pray day doesn't have that is very important to note is Network inclusivity. In prey day survival, if you live in North and sometimes south America, then you can see other players from North and sometimes South America. and if you are a European, you should be able to see other players from Europe, but I as an American, can not play with my European friends and anyone outside of those two places cannot play any type of multiplayer. Furthermore, since prey day is not on iOS yet, we are not 100% sure that their server organization is set up for cross platform multiplayer. Last day on Earth's multiplayer's server organization however, does allow for Intercontinental and cross-platform multiplayer. So even though sector 7 in last day on Earth is lame in comparison to PVP battles and Clan objectives, It might actually be easier for last day on Earth to implement the PVP system that they have always had planned, then it would be for prey day survival to develop their server system to have international and cross platform capabilities. I'm not a programmer so I don't know which one is actually easier, but I believe that whichever game has both of those first, will have a huge advantage over the other one. The fifth category is content. Prey day survival has started with more content than any other game in this genre, but since Last Day on Earth has been around for a year, they have considerably more content than pray day survival including character customization, substantial holiday themes and events, pets, skills and a recurring single player challenge called bunker alfa. Even though you can craft all of the items and workbenches in prey day survival going all the way up to the highest tier which is not possible in Last Day on Earth, there are still quite a bit more craftable items and workbenches in last day on Earth. The sixth category is story line. Unlike last day on Earth, prey day survival actually tried to come up with a story for the game. You start in a hospital and some notes reveal that you were experimented on and you are now immune to the virus. You then find out the first time that you die, that something about the experiments they did in that hospital have made you seemingly Immortal which is why you keep showing up at your base with full health after you die. This is a nice touch, and maybe someday I will read all of these notes, but so far they have not lured me in. So I would say that Prey Day survival wins in this category because they have a storyline and last day on Earth does not, but I think it is important to note that grim soul survival (which is made by the same company as Last Day on Earth) has an amazing story line that ties in really well with the story. So even though Prey Day wins in this category, I don't think it would be that hard for last day on Earth to beat pray day in this area if Kefir reallocated some staff. The 7th category is free-to-play friendliness. This is not a difficult one to determine. Last day on Earth has received a lot of flack from the community for not being super friendly to the people who are free to play and prey day survival does not even currently have the option to spend money in the game. nor even watch ads and as I mentioned earlier, I was still able to get to the top within a couple weeks. So pray day survival obviously blows last day on Earth out of the water in this category. The last category is in game play. This category is one of the most important ones to me personally. I don't have a lot of time to play video games, so I like when a game allows me to use my brain or skill to advance faster in the game than someone who is just playing it at face value. I fell in love with last day on earth a year ago because it was a challenge and if you played smart, you could do way better in the game. When they release the update with bunker Alpha, it was designed as a challenge. There were a few zombies patrolling, you had to decide whether or not you wanted to run past the turret or try to kill it. There were hidden tricks that required experimenting to find and if you got really good at doing it, you could get all of the loot at the end of the bunker without spending that many resources. I loved the way it was set up back then and doing the bunker was what actually inspired me to start this YouTube channel. But an update 1.5.6, last day on earth changed the bunker to where you get rewarded for killing things and while there was still some advantages to playing smart, currently the 2nd and third floors of bunker alfa are mostly just hack and slash. So in conclusion, these are the categories that Last day on Earth is better at and these are the categories that prayed a survival is better at, but this one is only true if you have an live in the Americas or Europe because otherwise last day on Earth has a better multiplayer system for you. Knowing these differences should help you decide which game you would rather play. Well, that's it guys. I hope that helps. If you can think of some differences between these two games that I did not cover in this video, please leave them in a comment below and I'll pin it so everyone else can see. Also, don't forget to like this video If You Did In fact like this video. All right guys. I'll see you next time. [link] [comments]

[Request] Looking for resource management game similar to Fallout Shelter. Posted: 29 Jun 2018 08:43 AM PDT Fallout Shelter is such a good game. However, I just maxed my third vault and I am burnt out from the game at this point so I need something new. I have been trying Hustle Castle, which I do like. The game just pushes so many IAPs on the user; which I can't stand. Fallout Shelter was nice with their IAPs. They never really pushed them on you except for during sales and it was just for items/dwellers; not crazy things in Hustle Castle like the monthly premium upgrade. I don't mind paying for a good game, although I don't think there are many/any paid games with this style. What I'm looking for:
This is probably a lot, but please suggest anything and I will take a look. They don't need to meet all the requirements. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Are there any good fighting games left on Android? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 09:48 PM PDT KOF 2012 crashes on my device (Redmi Note 5). The other KOF's have horrible touchscreen controls. Garou is good but honestly was never a fan of the series. Street Fighter IV CE was probably the biggest disappointment. It keeps downloading extra data and crashes regularly. Shadow fight 3 reviews have termed it as an ad-ridden IAP nightmare, so will not bother to even try it out. SoulCaliber was fun while it lasted. So do you guys have any suggestions? Also PS: Tapping and swiping on your screen according to some arrows is a rhythm game, not fighting. So injustice and it's league of clones do not count. I am looking for a more traditional sort of button-mashing mayhem game. [link] [comments]
[Request] what are the ultimate party games Posted: 29 Jun 2018 08:32 AM PDT After spending the evening with my girlfriend laughing over games of heads up i was hoping to get a list of the recent must have party games from you lot. Weve already got the likes of triple agent and hot potato lined up just hoping theres a chance of some more recent and eventful game i may have missed out on that may be worth downloading. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
My kids favorite games. What are your kid's favorites? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 01:20 PM PDT I love to game and there is so much trash out there. When my kids find a game and stick to it I notice. They play such crap and get tired but these two games stand out. Son age 9, game: Mr Gun Daughter age 4, game: Shopkins Run Sorry for the grammar in the title. [link] [comments]
Games that you play while you are doing other things Posted: 29 Jun 2018 08:37 AM PDT From games that you like to play when loading or while you're dead in computer games or even when you're working on the computer. Games that doesn't require a lot of attention (please don't suggest clickers) [link] [comments]
Game similiar to smashing four but without p2w? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 10:59 AM PDT Hi all, Like the title says, is there any game like smashing four (doesnt need to be the exact same concept, oh and no clash royale concept PLEASE) but without the p2w? and the waiting for 3/8/12/24h do to something and actually improve your deck? I rly dont like to be forced to wait 1 week and only play games to win the boxes or whatever and only then my deck/cards/champions will be truly improved and i can actually rank up... Also, communication with a guild and do things with the guild is a plus :D Thank you in advance, i know its probabily not easy what im asking, but its worth a shot. Basically i want a game that i can play for 2/3 hours if i want to, and can actually improve, like i said before, it doesnt need to be similar as smashing four and guild events is a big plus. The p2w itself is not a big problem, im a casual player, i just want to play and see myself improving if i play for a long time in a row. Thank you :D [link] [comments]

Did GooglePlay Games just raise their level cap? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:43 PM PDT I just started a game, logged in and realised it displayed lvl 56 instead of 50 for me. Part time bug or a raise? Did anyone else notice this? [link] [comments]
[Request] Any MMO game with a strong influence in communities Posted: 29 Jun 2018 12:42 AM PDT Hello, I'm looking for a game where there are solo aspects but also some important interplay with other players like guilds or groups. It does not have to be pvp focused, and it can be any kind of game (ie not strictly RPG). I just want a sense of community where you can work together for something or can help each other out and not just solo grinding characters/gear to be the best at the arena. [link] [comments]
