Official Xiaomi Store in Hanoi, Vietnam

    Posted: 30 May 2018 05:55 PM PDT

I'm going to Vietnam for two weeks on Sunday. Planning to visit an official Xiaomi Store there and hopefully be able to buy mi band 3 and mi 8, maybe hard to get the mi 8 but would still like to see the store.

In Hanoi they opened an official Mi store om May 13 but I can't find the address. Maybe someone here is from Vietnam and can aurally find out where it is?

Edit: might have found it but confirmation would be great! Khu đô thị Times City, Hai Bà Trưng, Hanoi, Vietnam

Mi A1 or Redmi 5 plus?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 01:42 PM PDT

Hey guys, I was hoping you could help me with something.

I am being offered to pick between Mi A1 and Redmi 5 Plus (or Redmi Note 5, as it is also called) as a gift. The price is the same, there's some kind of discount I think.

I've seen the specs and understand they are almost the same. I like the look of Redmi 5 Plus and the fact that is has a really nice battery, plus I think the camera looks slightly better since it doesn't have the greenish hue to it. I don't really need the blurry effect a double camera can produce.

However, I would really like my phone to last as long as possible, at least 2-3 years and I wonder if Android One on Mi A1 would perhaps have something to do with prolonged longevity... maybe Mi A1 would get more updates?

If you have any thoughts on this, I would really appreciate it because I'm not an expert in any way and just trying to figure stuff out about Xiaomi models from the internet.

Mi Mix 2 Constantly freezing and rebooting

    Posted: 30 May 2018 04:18 PM PDT

My brand new mix 2, which is a week old, is constantly freezing and restarting. I've tried factory resetting it, flash lineage onto it, and even rooting and removing some of the bloatware apps on it. My question is has anybody else had an issue like this and found a solution? Is my best bet assuming its hardware related and taking it to get looked at?

My issues with the Redmi 5A camera.

    Posted: 30 May 2018 02:05 PM PDT

I got my Xiaomi Redmi 5A just a day ago and after using the device i notice that, the camera app is noticable bad for a 13 mp phone, so i started to investigate about the subject and found out that if you install the original google camera its much, much better.

As i am not an experienced android user (i used an iphone before this Xiaomi) i was really afraid of doing the modifications in order to get the Gcam running.

I got to this application called "Camera FV-5" and oh god, its a huge improvement over the xiaomi's camera app.

Redmi 5A vanilla camera app (13 mp with flash) https://prnt.sc/joqoik

Xiaomi with Camera FV-5 app (13 mp with flash) https://prnt.sc/joqp0w

The redmi 5A is an amazing phone for his price, you get a lot of features and in my opinion is much better than some mid end phones but if the quality of the photos are downgrade because a software issue thats unacceptable.

[Note 4, mido] Unknown Baseband and IMEI after Flashing Lineage

    Posted: 30 May 2018 01:24 PM PDT

Hey all, so after a long and particularly stressful day of reflashing Lineage os to my Redmi Note 4 after I decided I wasn't a fan of 15.1 (I downgraded to 14.1) I've found that I can no longer connect to the internet, use bluetooth or make calls. Upon investigation I discovered that my IMEI and Baseband were missing (they show up as unknown in the settings). Is there a way to fix this or have I completely borked my phone?

Thanks for any help in advanced.

DPI/Display Size and 3rd Party Apps

    Posted: 30 May 2018 01:14 PM PDT

    Hi.

I'm new to MIUI. Just got a RN5.

I like the fact that MIUI makes good use of screen real estate by having a default font and general UI spacing that is quite a bit smaller and more compact than stock android.

I've been using stock (or close to stock) android for many years. Recently I've always set the 'display size' to the smallest , and the font size to the smallest, which allows one to make much better use of the screen real estate.

Now with MIUI, their native UI and built in apps all have a much smaller font etc than typical 3rd party apps. For example, with default display size and font size settings, the MIUI SMS app font size is perfect for me - it's small and one can see a lot on the screen. In comparison however WhatsApp (just an example) has massive text, even with the WhatsApp font set to small in the app. The same thing applies to other typical 3rd party apps.

I would usually resolve this by just dropping the display size and font size to minimum, but doing this makes the native MIUI UI and apps text way too small, while other 3rd party apps look perfect for my liking.

Does anybody else feel the same way? I can't seem to strike a good balance. The two options are Either all 3rd party apps text and elements are huge and MIUI apps and system looks great, or I lower the display and font size and all 3rd party apps looks great but MIUI apps and general system fonts are far too tiny.

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    TIA

Question about the Mi A1 Fingerprint sensor

    Posted: 30 May 2018 04:57 PM PDT

So I know there's a slight delay between the fingerprint registering (buttons light up) and the screen turning on, with the Mi A1 and I am absolutely A-okay with it!

But people who own the A1, does the fingerprint scanner sometimes fail to register your finger when tapped?

The scanner on my unit usually works like a charm every single time, but every now and then when the device has been lying idle for a while and I pick it up to quickly check notifications, sometimes a quick tap of the finger on the scanner will result in a haptic feedback but fail to unlock the screen. A second tap always does the trick however. This isn't a regular issue, and only happens intermittently, especially when the device has been lying unused for a bit.

Is this normal for all units? I am worried there might be an issue with mine and it will deteriorate further over time.

Can fellow Mi A1 users please chime in and let me know if this also happens on your units?

    Cheers!
