Can you download an 8.1 OEM on a new OSless PC? (I'm a Noob at this) Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:17 PM PDT Essentially my computer has gone to shit. My brother used some sort of agreement with his work to have windows 10 home run freely with their key. Now it's gone. And the update pop-ups are coming from every which way and it's rebooting the pc on its own. I HATE IT. Anyways, Ive been reading a lot on downgrading, I've decided on going for an 8.1 OS with a classic shell. My only predicament is will downloading this OEM off Newegg be okay? Or am I missing something . Here's the link to what I'm about to buy [link] [comments]
Trying to reset but clicks aint clicking Posted: 27 Apr 2018 06:17 PM PDT I'm trying to reset my Dell Latitude E5440 with Win 10 Pro. I was told to go to the Update and Security menu in the settings, then Recovery, then click Get Started under Reset this PC, but the button, when clicked, does dead nothing. I see the spinny thing on the cursor for half a second and then nothing else. Any other ways to reset? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:25 AM PDT When is 1809 rolling out? We got hints about it releasing early April and it's about to be May. [link] [comments]

My Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 8.1 keeps failing without an error message Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:09 AM PDT So I am using the Media Creation Tool after buying Windows 10 but it isn't completing after downloading. How can I narrow down the point of failure and fix it? [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:57 PM PDT Hi I've been trying to capture a Direct2D window using PrintWindow, which fails. However, alt+printscreen worked. Does anyone know how printscreen actually works, so that I'd be able to imitate it? When I hit printscreen, which functions/executables are called? [link] [comments]

Changing Resolution of Specific Program Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:15 PM PDT How can i change the resolution of a specific program? My laptop display resolution is 3480 x 2160. For some of you, the programs that are not made for 3480 x 2160 resolution, the icons are tiny making working less efficient. Is there a way for me to set a current application resolution without disrupting the overall screen resolution? [link] [comments]

Possible loophole in email recovery Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:13 PM PDT So, I'd been locked out of an email after changing the password and forgetting it about 10 years ago. The recovery email, sad_peanut22 was also lost to complex passwords and poor memory. (To further hinder myself, I had set the "mothers birthplace" answer to some version of "my butt.") Today, I tried again. And after waiting on a call and being sent to other call centers I hung up in frustration. Now, for some reason, Microsoft deletes old email accounts that haven't been logged into in X amount of years. As it happened the old email, sad_peanut22, was one of these. As the recovery email, I had tried to log in once and was met with "this account doesn't exist." Today I had a stroke of genius: remake the email. And voila, new sad_peanut22 account and I get my recovery email for the yearslong locked out account! I realize this is a VERY specific issue, but I figured I'd let somebody know! As long as someone has lost their recovery account, you can remake it and gain access to their account. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:05 PM PDT Am I the only one that has noticed random freezing with windows 10? Long story short, I know my hardware. My cpu fan is clean & working, hard drive isn't failing or whining, no capacitors on the motherboard are going, etc. And software wise I know this isn't caused by malware/anything else. I work on a newer computer than I have at home which is completely fine freezing wise. My laptop is fine(also newer but not as new as the work computer). The computer I am having a freezing problem with is 2008 AMD build with 16gb ram desktop and again I physically clean it for dust as needed. My drivers are all up to date as possible. Can someone please just tell me this is not just me? I feel though as if perhaps not many people are using hardware of this age anymore so perhaps the windows 10 developers just don't care? I had absolutely no problems until I installed windows 10. [link] [comments]

Looking for a Win7 email client that can group emails by sender. On Mac I use Unibox. Posted: 27 Apr 2018 12:22 PM PDT So, on Mac I use Unibox. In the left pane is a list of senders who have emailed you lately. Click the sender's name and you see their most recent mail followed by every other mail they have ever sent you in the left pane. Rt-clicking the senders name in left pane allows you to delete every email they have ever sent you. Or, once every few years I will subscribe to Mailstrom to clean up my Gmail account. In its left pane it has a list of senders sorted by the number of total emails they have sent you. Senders that spam you a lot go to the top. You can delete every email from them in a few clicks. BUT... I am trying to find a Win7 client that has this functionality without downloading 100 different trial versions. I was hoping someone might be able to turn me onto a short list of clients to try. And of course free/open source would be nice. Thankee muy mucho! [link] [comments]

Double-click select not including last space Posted: 27 Apr 2018 04:01 AM PDT Hi! I often use double-click to high-light sentences faster, but if it's a space instead of a special character like . , / - + ? etc it would also highlight the last space w/c I always dont need. I often either hold shift+left arrow key or I just copy it anyway and delete the space once I pasted it. is there some kind of registry hack or something? [link] [comments]
Really slow HDD read/write speed Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:49 AM PDT I used Crystal Disk Mark to get the following info: Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 52.970 MB/s Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 49.990 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 0.602 MB/s [ 147.0 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 0.616 MB/s [ 150.4 IOPS] Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 0.581 MB/s [ 141.8 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 0.569 MB/s [ 138.9 IOPS] Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 0.253 MB/s [ 61.8 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 0.593 MB/s [ 144.8 IOPS] The only solution I thought of was to defrag, but it says my hard drive is only 3% fragmented. What are some other options to increase the speed? [link] [comments]
