    Negative comment karma

I have negative comment karma on my account for no reason. And now I can't post at all. I have only posted probably 3 or 4 times on reddit as a whole and now I'm stuck. Help please?

Upgraded from a GTX 750 ti to a 1050 and it's performing worse then the 750 did.

As the title says, Recently I upgraded GPUs and since I installed the new card and drivers I've been having drops in performance. And Example being when I'm just idling on the For Honor homepage my GPU usage is at 98% with 95 of it being For Honor.

Specs are: CPU: Intel i5-4440 Ram: 12 GB PSU: Corsair RM750x And of course GPU is my new Gigabyte GTX 1050

Roommate spying on internet use through Raspberry Pi

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:16 AM PDT

Looking for a bit of help. My roommate set up a raspberry pi zero on our router claiming that he built an ad blocker. That much is true, but he slipped up last night and mentioned how he can use it to monitor internet use and browsing. My question is how can I block that on my end from my computer? Thanks in advance, apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Edit: my sincerest thanks to those who have given their input.

Update: Thus far with your help I've learned to manually change my DNS, and I am now looking into paid (preferably annually) VPN services.

PC turns on but no signal to my monitor/keyboard

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 12:53 AM PDT

Turn on computer, fans spin (and keep on), gpu fan starts and than stops (not sure if that's the cause or if gpu fans are supposed to do that if not heating up or whatever).

I've tried a lot of things. Switching cords. Making sure they're all clicked in. Made sure the DVI cable is plugged in correctly, both through the desktop itself and monitor. Bought an entirely new hard drive thinking the drivers were corrupt or something, didn't work.

As for my keyboard, it's the same exact thing. Using a USB hub, my mouse works just fine plugged in with that, but not my keyboard using the same port(s). So I unplugged it from the USB hub, straight into desktop, and same thing. Not working, but plugging my fucking mouse into the same port works? How the fuck does that work?

    Am I missing something?

I'm extra depressed because I'm dirt poor, living by myself, and being on welfare (disability). So can't buy anymore stuff. Took me so long to get enough for this one and the thing isn't even working. ;(

    Please help.

PC hasn't been updated in years. Now when i try it just black screens or errors and reverts.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:54 PM PDT

Pretty much as title says. I have an HP Envy DV6 from 5-6-7 years ago or something and it still runs fine, it just hasn't had updates in forever. no windows updates, no graphics, nothing. i've tried to just let the windows updater run but it said errors occurred and reverted the pc back to how it was. Running the nvidia geforce to let the gpu update, the installer just glitches out and closes out before it finishes. seems i can't update any of it.

is there a reliable program that will force them to go through? or a way to pick out the certain updates that are crossing paths and do in order or something? thanks for any info or help!

Not sure if it helps but here is a speccy list of my laptop - https://i.imgur.com/YM1pdkL.png

Games crash or have flashing lights all the time when using crossfire.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 11:54 PM PDT

hii guys my hardware is: 2 r9 amd 295x2 gpus (so overall 4 gpus) intel core i7 4970k 16 gb ram psu is 1600w nova evga gold

the issue is very weird and im having a hard time to diagnose it but i believe its a psu issue:

ever since a few months when i play games using crossfire especcially the more demanding ones and especcially on higher resolutions(1080p and more) the lights in the game flash or the screen turns on and off all the time and when in 4k or lesser resolutions (but more than 1080p) the game and computer sometimes completely crash after i see greeen colors flashing in the screen. this can happen even when i have high fps although at 4k using crossfire suddently the fps goes to 10 and less even though maybe a resolution less it can run on 120 fps. again this wasnt an issue a few months ago were the same games ran fine.

Without crossfire this issue doesnt exist but frequently the screen turns on and off thanks alot for the help i realise its a weird issue.

if more info is needed write it and ill add it. also i use adapters from us to eu on my psu cable if that may interefere? thanks alot for the help.

what i tried : 1. reinstalling drivers 2. reinstalling windows

    did not work

Is my gfx card dead or the wiring/motherboard

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:04 PM PDT

So i had a problem, playing a game last night my pc just turned off. I tried to turn the computer back on and it wouldn't work didn't turn on just a black screen. So i switched to integrated graphics and the computer wasn't picking the gfx card up. After taking the gfx card out i plugged it back in and forgot to put the PCIe cables in it then come up with some text saying turn the computer off and plug the PCIe cables back in. So was just wondering is my gfx card busted or is it the cables/motherboard. GFX cards fans do turn on if that means anything

Keyboard and Mouse working in BIOS/windows recovery menu but not windows login

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:06 AM PDT

I am able to use my keyboard and mouse while in the bios and windows recovery however not to log into windows making me unable to log in. I have tried the following:

    • System restore (this does not work as it will not allow me to restore)
    • Reinstalling windows completely (gets to a certain % then takes me back to windows recovery screen).
    • System Repair (it does nothing and takes me to windows log in)
    • using the windows thread with this known issue to revert the previous update (KB4074588) however when i type the command given by microsoft it gives me "Error :50 dism doesn't support servicing windows PE with the /online option"
    • I tried running the system on safe mode however I am unable to login when the windows login screen appears.

After looking into this the past 2 days further I think my whole partitioning on the system is possibly messed up? I have windows installed on my c: drive AND my x:drive I think? (I was unaware about the x drive until i realised my cmd was running on the x drive) my x drive is being used to boot the system, should the c drive be booting the system? This whole things a mess and I have no idea where to go from here any suggestions would be appreciated!

200 mbps internet, what kind of router/modem should I get?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:59 AM PDT

I'm not sure if I should post this question here or networking, but I just want to know what should I look for in a router/modem for 200mbps internet.

I know that I use something that can handle those speeds like an AC 1200 router or something, but is there any other features I should look for?

Strange Realtek HD Audio Driver problem. Headphones give shallow sound and don't show up in Playback devices.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:45 AM PDT

    Hey guys.

A few days ago my headphones randomly stopped working properly. I haven't installed or uninstalled any Software, didn't run CCleaner or anything like that. Now whenever i plug in my headphones the sound is super shallow, almost like i listening to a smartphone speaker inside an arena.

The strange thing is, whenever i uninstall the Realtek drivers and reboot, everything works fine for a minute. But whenever i shut down the laptop and boot it up again the problem comes back.

I have no idea what is causing this and i am beyond my capabilities of fixing this by myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hardware master windows image vs. Vmware image

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:34 AM PDT

    Hello,

For the past few years I create an image of an freshly installed operating system (windows 10 and windows 7) on a physical computer and then use Easeus todo backup to make an "master image" which I can deploy to new systems with different hardware with the Easeus recovery cd (I use the feature called system transfer which is like Acronis's universal resotore).

In the past few months I preformed this action by installing the freshly installed OS on Vmware 12 Virtual machine, And both ways seems to work fine.

Since the UEFI boot is introduced more and more, I've considered building a UEFI supported computer to preform the fresh "master" UEFI installation, And I wanted to hear from your experience what is the most compatible way to do that. The Vm option is still on the table, But I'm afraid it's not fully compatible with UEFI.

I considered connecting the hard drive with an HDD drawer, So I'll have different drive to each OS (Windows 7 Ahci mode, Windows 10 UEFI mode and windows 10 Non-Uefi mode).

    What do you think ?

Unable to install Intel display drivers on laptop

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:30 AM PDT

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L850, with an i7-3630QM and an AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card. Recently the dedicated graphics card has died, so I am trying to use the integrated graphics. After using Display Driver Uninstaller to get rid of AMD drivers, in Device Manager the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter shows up.

So I try to obtain graphics drivers for my particular integrated chipset (Intel HD Graphics 4000). I get it off the Intel website, and those drivers show the error 'this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software'. Then I get a different set of drivers, off the Toshiba website, and run that. But the problem is, after extracting the drivers, the actual executable doesn't do anything. It comes up with the Windows prompt saying something like 'do you want this to change your device?', and after clicking Yes, nothing happens.

How do I install the integrated graphics drivers?

4k laptop won't show up on 1080p monitor

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:23 PM PDT

I have this 1080p monitor that only has dvi and vga ports so I got a dvi to hdmi adapter to connect to my 4k laptop (asus ux501j), however, the monitor screen remains black, but my laptop recognizes the monitor and the other way around. I think it might have to do something to do that my laptop is 4k because the monitor will work with my other laptop that is 1080. Is there a way around this? Thank you.

Interested in getting a second monitor for a laptop

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:20 PM PDT

    Hi techsupport!

As title states, I'm interested in a second monitor for my laptop. I have a i7-3610qm with a Nvidia GeForce GT 650M. I've been looking at /r/buildapcsales and reading posts about monitor sales but there is a lot of stuff I'm not familiar with. I don't want to spend too much money probably like a $150 budget. I'm just using the built in laptop monitor but want an upgrade that I could use as the main one. What should I be looking for? I understand that the graphics card in my laptop isn't the greatest as it is a laptop specific one and one I have had for 6 years. So the high end stuff is pointless, plus it is out of my budget. So what should I be aiming for?

Thanks in advance, I hope this post isn't against guidelines. I apologize if it is, but help would really be appreciated it.

edit: my laptop model is Acer Aspire V3-771G

Samsung Notebook 7 Spin 15.6" Laptop No longer turns on after adding SSD

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 11:27 PM PDT

    Model Number is NP740U5L-Y02US

I recently purchased this laptop Samsung Notebook 7 Spin 15.6" and it worked flawlessly. I then decided to add a M.2 SSD to the laptop and since then everything has gone to hell. As you can see in the images below there is a ribbon above the M.2 slot that has to be removed. I removed the ribbon. Inserted the M.2 SSD and turned the laptop on. The backlight on the keyboard will turn on but nothing else. I removed the M.2 SSD, replaced the ribbon again and still nothing but the backlight on the keyboard turns on. I have tried reseating the ribbon many times but it really only goes on one way. Itried a hard reset by unplugging the battery and holding the power button down for 20 seconds (that used to work to resolve issues on my old laptop) Now I am at a complete loss with a laptop that is useless. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Network - no proxy required when tethering, but does on wifi?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:10 AM PDT

    Hi all

Wondering if you can help. I have a work laptop that I often use to work from home. Up until now, it's been great.

When I tether the laptop to my phone using iOS Personal Hotspot, the internet works great and I can access everything. However when I hook it up to my home wifi, when I try and access a web page I'm prompted to input my login details for the BlackSpider proxy which I believe is what's used by my organisation. This never used to be the case, it used to work regardless of which network I was connected to.

I've tried going into Settings > Connections > LAN settings and unticking the use proxy box, but when I do this and click OK it simply reverts it to being ticked.

Running Windows 7 - any help appreciated!

    Many thanks, Ben

    graphics artifacts when playing games

It is present in all games I have tried so far. I updated my Nvidia driver but this did not change anything. I have not noticed any problems in other applications thus far. Black screen when trying to connect display to gpu

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:56 PM PDT

I bought a ASUS ROG G20CB-B21, and whenever I try to plug in my display to the gpu I only get a black screen as if the gpu is not being detected. The pc boots up just fine just nothing appears on the screen. If I plug in my display to the motherboard everything works fine.

I have tried disabling intel intergrated graphics through the device manger, then I only get Microsoft basics display adapter instead.

I have tried installing Nvidia drivers from their site, but it does not work since it doesn't detect the card

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'M too much of a layman to compare... could you tell me which video card is better for gaming purposes?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:54 AM PDT

    AMD radeon 8500m/8700m

    or

    Intel HD Graphics 4000

It's been six years... I have been looking for ways to force the laptop to use the dedicated video card, tried everything aside from diasbling the integrated one in BIOS... And now it turns out my efforts might have been in vain from the start, because the itnegrated might be the better one.
