    Recent Windows Update Reinstalling Bloat?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 06:35 AM PDT

My SP4 just updated itself recently, and I see Bubble With 3 Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Disney Magic Kingdoms, and March of Empires installing on their own. Did I do something or is Microsoft doing this on its own? If so, how is this okay and how are they getting away with this? I am marginally okay with them preinstalling bloat, but reinstalling bloat is a new low imo.

    What is Windows 10 Lean?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 03:16 AM PDT

If you're on Windows 7, and are using a G-SYNC display, would you mind helping me out?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 07:30 AM PDT

If you enable G-SYNC for Windowed & Fullscreen applications, does disabling Desktop Composition (Classic theme.) still cause tearing in games/desktop use?

I've bought a branded PC 2 years ago with Windows 10 in it. I'm thinking about making my own rig, is there any way I can transfer the Windows OS on my future new PC? Do I need to buy a new license? Thank you :)

Accessing 1.5TB HDD using external case. Getting errors about ownership.

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 03:29 PM PDT

Ok, so desktop computer w/ 2 SATA HDD's (1.5TB & 250GB). Started to act up. from freezing up to BSOD. So I jumped on Amazon got a external case to pop the drives in to, so that I could back up what I need to a new 2TB HDD.

I can access the 1.5TB HDD but when I click on files or folders I start getting prompted for access rights. This is happening for every file, every folder. Is there a batch file I could run on the HDD to remove that from every file and every folder. So that I can back up what I need more easy?

Im wishing to try to do a full on clean install. As is right now both HDD's have a version of Win7 installed creating a odd duel boot of the same OS. So i'm hoping to back up what I need to and just do a full on clean as a whistle reboot/reinstall.

    No Internet, Secured

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 06:40 AM PDT

    OS: Windows 10 Home

Error: No Internet, Secured: I can connect to wifi, but not the internet.

Situation: After reformatting Windows, I was installing some security software and changed the DNS. To be more specific, I was installing OSArmor, VoodooShield, and Avast free. I changed my DNS to Canadian OpenNIC servers. It wasn't immediately after I changed the DNS, so I doubt that was the problem. I thought maybe it was the security software, or that I was installing it at once. So I uninstalled the previous mentioned software and still have the issue.

What I've tried: Disabling/Enabling adapter, Updating adapter, Reinstalling adapter, disabling IPV6, Restarting computer, Restarting router/modem, Windows Troubleshooter

    Troubleshooter Results: https://kek.gg/i/7DzTWW.jpg

    Note

    • I only have this issue on my laptop

    • I had used DestroyWindowsSpying immediately after windows was up and running.

    • The internet had been working long after DWS was installed/used

    Question concerning VRAM

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 12:09 PM PDT

Hi, After allocating more RAM as VRAM, most games stopped working or performed the same. I have 4 GB of RAM, 3,9 was usable due to 64 MB being VRAM. I allocated 512 to my VRAM in order to get a constant framerate in certain games. The source games (games made in the source engine, which sometimes don't require a lot) I own (TF2, Gmod) work the same as it did. Fortnite, which could be playable at half the recommended VRAM considering I was able to get 15 FPS. Allocating more to it and playing it at the lowest settings could be a good idea. Now all unreal games refuse to play. Where did it go wrong? My CPU isn't that bad, it's more because of the GPU I went for an upgrade. I'm not planning to play GTA V, because that'd be too demanding.

    Thanks in advance!

Issue with window and drop down buttons (physical) not functioning since update

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 10:40 AM PDT

Anyone else having this issue? I've read MANY forums and fixes that range from registry repairs, audio/video driver re installation to creating a new user account. Nothing...I use the windows button a lot and just cant get it to work again. I'd love to know if anyone out there has had this issue and success fixing it. NOW! for another twist, when a remote connection into the machine via teamviewer, the windows buttons work when sent remotely. W..t..f

Windows forced update on me, now I can't log in.

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 09:11 AM PDT

    Hey there.

So I've been pushing off the latest update for months. Windows kept getting more an more aggressive to the point of installing Update Assistant every single time I turned my PC on.

I've tried everything Google has to say to disable updates. Metered connection, removing the Assistant install in the scheduler, etc. etc.

I turn on my PC yesterday and the inevitable happened: "Preparing updates."

Welp, there goes my custom Windows theme.

When it's finally done, I get a login screen. I had set mine not to prompt for login screen. OK whatever. Should be easy to disable again on the new version. I log into my Microsoft account. Except that it accepts the password, fades the screen to black, then the log in screen comes on again. This endless login loop.

Luckily, I created a restore point a couple of weeks ago just for this scenario. I SHIFT-restart and load up Windows Restore. Only it doesn't see any restore points now.

    Of course. Why would it?

So I guess my main questions are how can I get Windows to either log me in or see the restore point I made?

    Thanks for any help.

    Multi String Search

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 08:09 AM PDT

My name is spelled wrong in the folder directory.

    Posted: 24 Apr 2018 12:41 AM PDT

I'm currently working abroad and was given an allowance to buy a laptop - now have a Windows on Acer. I don't know how to do anything since my personal computers have been Macs for years and because of the language taking it out of the box, a flatmate set it up. He made a spelling error on my given name (easy typo to do with my name) and now all my folders have the wrong spelling and it is driving me insane - everything is C:\Users\misspelledname\Desktop even after making a new log in account.

How can I fix this because it is driving me insane - computer is only a couple of days old so no big deal if I have to delete things but I am at my wits end.
