Just found 2 hidden cameras in a vent above the toilet! Desperately need help with what RF/bug detector to get!!

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 09:03 PM PDT

So I'm currently staying with some family members in their granny flat and for some reason both the vents in the bathroom/toilet don't work. I found this odd but didn't think too much into it since it wouldn't be impossible for both fans to be out of use. I'm quite a skeptical person and never really feel comfortable being naked outside my own house regardless of where I am or who I'm with (seen many a doc/crime show where this stuff happens).

Anyway, after three days of being here my curiosity got the better of me and I grabbed a chair to check the vents. Both of them were impossible to remove as if they were drilled/super glued in place so I grabbed my phone and used the torch to have a look inside. After a few seconds of moving the torch around to light up the darkness, I saw what looked like 2 lenses focused straight down to the toilet. I moved the light around them and in my disbelief thought I was just expecting to find them and was just being silly.

After a few angles of shining the light I found that, without a doubt, they were camera lenses in the roof that were focused directly on the toilet. I was in shock that this was even happening and instantly felt sick. I felt so uncomfortable and went looking for more... I found one. Directly in front of the toilet on the opposite wall (about 6 feet away) there's a calendar that rests on a small block of wood that is drilled into the wall with a screw. I noticed the block of wood was warm and quite hot exactly where the screw is and on closer inspection noticed a little dull red light in the center of the screw.

Needless to say I left in the middle of the night and am staying at a friends place until I can figure out what the hell to do. I don't know if I should bring it to their attention that I know or if they've yet seen the footage of me finding the cameras but I feel too awkward and quite frankly feel sick to my stomach.

I'm so paranoid now for anywhere that I go, since this is my family that would do that, who the hell knows what strangers would do. I want to buy an RF/bug detector to use whenever I go anywhere over night but I have no idea what one to get and if they even work.

If anyone knows the best on the market and can also give feedback on how it worked for them I would be more appreciative than you could ever imagine! Please help!

Windows 10-no network connection with no active network icon

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 04:07 AM PDT

Currently, I'm having an issue connecting to any sort of internet. When I go under Network & Internet, the network status is a straight black bar with grey dashes in the middle. Under, View your network properties, everything is Not operational and Disconnected. In addition, under Turn system icons on or off, my network icon is on a grey on position. I tried to do a network reset, but it achieved nothing. I'm running my anti-virus right now, but I have no idea what to do next if it yields nothing. Thanks in advance for your help.

Reset PC saying it will remove applications from other drive

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 03:39 AM PDT

I decided to reset my pc since it was starting to slow down and have funny problems in games where I decided wasn't the game having issues. I have a second hard drive plugged in my motherboard where it stores my games and stuff, and I also moved some other things from the appdata to save. So when I clicked reset but keep personal files, it gave me a list of apps that will be deleted, but I noticed that all of the games and other apps I had on the second drive are included. Supposedly there is an option to only reset where windows is installed, but I don't get the option before the list of apps. I want to know whether it tells me later or if it even touches the second drive despite listing apps from it. Thanks!

Internet suffers a lot when i try to download a game

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 03:25 AM PDT

I find that when i download a game (download speed is about 1 mb a seconds) i get really bad internet. Like it takes a minute to load a webpage.

I've also noticed that my family complains about internet issues and not being able to do anything on the internet that coincides with me downloading stuff.

Is my internet just that bad? I don't know much about the internet and internets speeds but i don't think 1 mb per second is that much.

Is there something wrong with my internet/is it just really slow or is 1mb a second actually alot?

Just built a new PC and Windows 10 will not recognize my second monitor.

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 03:08 AM PDT

I just built a pc and windows 10 does not recognize the second monitor. I've switched ports (using both display ports and both monitors), so I'm very confident that it is not a hardware issue. I saw that updating the drivers under the device manager could help, so I updated the "display adapters" and "monitors" drivers, and nothing changed.

In MS Word, in a long document with a numbered multilevel list, how can I go to a specific number?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 11:21 PM PDT

Word 2013. I have a very long document. It uses a multilevel automatically numbered list, like this:

    1. Introduction
    2. Definitions
    3. Conditions
      3.1. Financial Conditions
      3.1.1. Currency

    And so on.

When I want to go to a specific clause/article, like 3.1.1, and I click ctrl+f, Word never goes there. It appears it doesn't view these numbers as part of the text. If they were manually entered it would find them, but not when it's automatic. Scrolling or using page down is very time consuming when it's a document made of hundreds of pages.

How can I use find or go-to function to quickly go to a specific clause number?

Hello everyone, so last night I was watching a movie with HDMI linked to my TV, and suddenly when I look at my laptops screen I jumped and I was astonished.

I've tried searching everywhere didn't find any solutions. PC did not fall, did not hit anything.

I don’t know why the page just keeps loading over and over and over...

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 02:31 AM PDT

Hi! I am using my iPad. Software 11.3 with no updates. Every single time I try to go to a dailymail.co.uk link, using either google chrome or safari, it just keeps reloading...over and over and over.

This does not happen with any other page. Is there something I can do to stop it? I'd really like to read the articles!

I've been having a really annoying issue in Chrome where the autofill/autocompleted part of the website (ie websites I've visited in the past and frequent) will disappear in the URL. I'm at my wit's end.

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 01:59 AM PDT

Basically I'll type a "R" for reddit.com to appear. Sometimes it'll appear just fine and I click enter as normal but sometimes it'll appear for a microsecend and then the autocompleted part of the URL will disappear. It's so frustrating because sometimes I'll click enter thinking it'll be there when it's not, etc.

I've tried disabling my extensions one by one and it hasn't helped but when I use chrome on a different computer the problem doesn't exist. I don't know what else to try?

MAC Black Screen and seemingly froze, then repeatedly stuck at white screen on restart.

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 01:45 AM PDT

I have an early 2011 15" Macbook Pro with 16gb RAM.

I was watching a tv show on my computer and it randomly went to a black screen, which was unusual. I shut it down and it repeatedly got stuck on the white screen after the Apple logo and load bar are gone. It is unable to start in safe mode (stuck at white screen again) and when I tried to boot it into Disk Utility is blue screened and now I cannot reach utility again, it stalls at the white screen after the internet recovery load in. If I use Command+R for start up it will end in a blue screen.

It was behaving completely normally and the inside seems clean, the fans also function as it runs. When trying to start it normally and plugged in, the computer will get stuck at the white screen and then restart and do it nonstop. When unplugged, the computer will do this just once.

I have soft reset the NVRAM and SMC but do not know what else to do. Is this a hardware issue?

Thank you all for your help, I am really in a tough spot.

I don't even know how to explain what's going on... (Windows 10, please help)

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 01:43 AM PDT

So last night, I updated my PC's drivers, updated my Anti-Virus software and let it do a deep scan, then let my PC restart. It restarted, and I was met with the "We have some updates for your PC" screen. After an hour of waiting, I decided to go bed and let the PC update itself overnight.

I come back to it this morning and WHERE DO I BEGIN?

Both monitors are black. No background. The start bar at the bottom keeps flashing in and out of existence, and doesn't work at all. The drivers for the main Monitor seem to be broken, as everything on that screen is huge. The default windows Font is different too.

I've got no idea what happened or how to fix it... Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I should add, it's behaving as though this is the first time I've booted my PC. Chrome (Once I finally managed to get it to open) gave me its user agreement to accept. I checked to make sure I wasn't running in safe mode, and I don't think I am.

W10 closes all my applications when idle and reopens them after login

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 01:37 AM PDT

I'm pretty sure this is a "feature", because it never happened until a couple of weeks ago, when it started to do this consistently. Basically, if I leave my desktop PC on and locked for some time (I'd say around a couple of hours), when I unlock it I am greeted by the desktop even if I had multiple applications open, and they start themselves after about 10 seconds. It isn't going in suspension or hybernation, it's definitely on. Nothing changed on my setup, other than the typical windows updates.

    Constant fps drops when playing

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 01:24 AM PDT

Hello, need help with this issue. I can't properly play some games like pubg, fornite, cs go, etc despite that i got a good PC (atleast for those games). I've noticed that when i'm playing the CPU apparently overheats (from 70°C idle to 100°C ingame) however I don't know if that's true or the temp sensor is just failing. Another thing when im playing is the clock rate of all cpu cores are cut in half(idle 3500mhz to 1400-1700mhz when playing). I use HWMonitor to see all that information.

    PC specs: Win10 64bits, intel core i5 4570 processor, 250gb samsung evo ssd(windows + games are here),nvidia gtx 1060 6gb gpu , 8gb ddr3 ram, asus z87m-plus motherboard, 1tb hdd.

Anyone have an idea of what i should do? Sorry for my poor english, isn't my native language.

Cannot find USB Flash Drive Cruzer Glide

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 09:25 PM PDT

My USB flash drive is nowhere to be found and I am not sure how to get it back. I've done a bit of research and tried some of the solutions although I am having no luck. I tried different USB ports, tried to look through the device manager, re-installing the drivers, no luck. I've tried to re-assign the drive, although the only thing I find is the main C: drive.

At first I thought it was the flash drive itself that isn't working, although I used it on another computer and it works perfectly fine, I'm still able to read/write to it. Also my main computer, if I plug in other USB into the ports then they show up fine as well.

If anyone could suggest me maybe a program or what I should try next, I'd appreciate it. I am using windows 10

Suddenly can't do most things with my computer, can't figure out what happened

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 01:10 AM PDT

Windows 8.1, desktop built from scratch.
I've been using this computer for a couple years without issue. All of a sudden, a lot of things stopped working: Any software that tries to update gets stuck, Windows spends forever checking for updates, the task manager won't launch, clicking shut down or restart does nothing. I can't really do anything other than launch software that doesn't try to update upon being opened.
I can't think of anything that's changed recently other than a Windows update that forced me to restart, but I didn't observe any of this happening until a day later. I did try to uninstall said update but that doesn't seem to work.
Is there anything that I can do aside from going for a fresh install of the OS?

All forms of Linux will kernel panic on boot.

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 09:21 PM PDT

This is a desktop PC directly out of an America's Army arcade cabinet. While the first instinct is to say something is wrong with the security dongle, reading the game's manual, the boot never even gets the point where it would check for the security dongle, let alone works in such a way that it would cause this failure.

When trying to boot the desktop's OS (labelled production, not sure of the exact Linux distro), the recovery CD (similar labeling), and a Damn Small Linux live CD, they all seem to hang when populating devices, I think specifically when accessing USB devices.

The USB keyboard works in BIOS. Disabling USB devices doesn't change any behavior.

I'm assuming this is some issue with the hardware and will need replacement, but I thought I may as well get a second opinion. What follows is the system specs as far as I can glean and pictures of the screen showing the error it gives:

    Motherboard: MS-7346 ver 1.1

Processor: ??? (Don't want to remove the heatsink to check, as I don't have thermal paste at the moment)

    Memory amount: 1 GB

Operating system: Linux (Generic?) Kernel: "2.6.22.9" (Obtained from GRUB menu)

    https://imgur.com/bevXItA

    https://imgur.com/aWFlWgI

Things tried on top of the above mentioned:

PS/2 keyboard with all USB ports disabled in BIOS.

    Booting in single user mode.

Advice on a good mesh wifi system

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 12:57 AM PDT

I'm going to move to a bigger house soon and I know that my current single Wifi router will not be able to provide the whole house with a proper signal.
I'd like to get some kind of MESH set up, with a wired backbone and I'm looking for advice on possible set ups. The setup I'll have will be:

    • Several hand-held devices, phones and tablets.
    • One or more laptops connecting through WiFi.
    • Two Gaming oriented PC's, connected with cabled ethernet.
    • 2 chromecast devices.
    • 2 interactive TV set ups, also wired.

I'd like to have a single network for me and my family, without the hassle of having to see which Wifi I'm connected to when I go up or down a floor.
The ability to restrict access on selected devices. (For when the kids are annoying) And, optionally a guest network for when I have people over.

What kind of options would be suitable for something like this? And what kind of budget should I consider?

    how to turn on PC

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 09:09 PM PDT

This is probably super simple and I'm just extremely unobservant or plain stupid. However I'm stumped! I just have received my first PC which my friends helped build for me, however I can't work out how to turn it on. I don't know what cords need to be plugged in and where in order for the system to work and honestly am too embarrassed to ask my friends as they've done so much already!

I've plugged in the main power cord and hdmi, what am I missing? Thanks :)

    Automatic Repair Loop Windows 10

    Posted: 16 Apr 2018 12:35 AM PDT

I know what caused it. I tried installing an old game called L.A. Rush via CD, and it wanted me to restart the computer, but now I am stuck with this loop. I have a custom built PC and so I did have to buy a DVD copy of Windows 10, but I guess micro center forgot to give it back to me. Is there anyway for me to recover my computer since I know what caused this problem? Couldn't I uninstall L.A. Rush? Also, I do NOT want to lose any data/apps/files. What should I do?? :(
