Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:56 PM PDT Hello! I bought a Moto e4 Plus for my elderly mom, and although her previous phones have been Android, she still has trouble remembering how to use certain functions of the phone. I am setting up this phone before giving it to her, and I noticed there are some neat pop-ups that give quick tutorials when launching some of the apps for the first time. For example, when I opened up the camera it had pop-ups for how to see settings, pinch to zoom, etc. and I'd love to have those available again for when she opens the camera up for the first time. Do any of you know how to reset those tutorials as if it were the first time to launch the apps again? I am not exactly sure how to search it online so I just kept getting results for tips on how to do factory resets and getting rid of pop-ups. Thanks a lot! [link] [comments] |
Disable "runs as a process in the background" notifications? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:41 PM PDT I have switched from IOS recently and my S8 constantly wakes me up or otherwise disturbs me with the same repeated notifications. For example the most annoying is my MMI Connect app for my Audi. It's designed to run in the background so it can manage the car remotely, like if a valet is speeding, if there's a check engine light, if the windows are open, sunroof, if it leaves a fenced in zone, etc... Latest S8 Android patches constantly displays a message in the notification area that says MMI Connect "runs as a process in the background" and there doesn't seem to be any way to disable this that I can find. The worst part is it will randomly beep about 3-5 times often at night to notify me that it's still running in the background. It beeped at me 4 times while I was writing this just to spite me I guess. I tried a google search for "runs as a process in the background" android and nothing useful came up: https://www.google.com/search?q="runs+as+a+process+in+the+background"+android If you expand the notification you get this: Which isn't helpful either. I don't want to disable the useful features of my car's app.. I understand they're trying to help users with security, but I already know the app is doing this. It shouldn't tell me over and over perpetually and beep at me when I'm trying to sleep. Is there any way to disable this crap that anyone is aware of? As much as I've hated IOS in the last few years this is freaking ridiculous. Another similarly annoying one is when it tells me that Google's own Hangouts app has been using my mic.. Ok yea I know... thats why I have it. Stop telling me over and over and again beeping at me. Again I understand it's for security but why tell me more than once, or twice or three times? Why tell me 9,000,000,000 times? I obviously know... EDIT: Minor progress. While I was not able to disable the notification, I did discover that the system notification inherits the alert severity and tone setting from the app that it's notifying you about. I went to Settings->Apps and into the MMI app settings and changed the Sound to "silent". It will still give me a popup notification if the app needs to alert me, but now at least the incessant beeping from Android Oreo 8.0 to let me know the app is in the background has stopped. It's not a perfect compromise, I'd like to hear alert tones from the app instead of hoping that I'll notice the popup. However at least for now I have some sanity back. Now to figure out the stupid mic alert thing...I can't set Hangout's alert tone to silent because I use it for business constantly. I hate to say it, because I really do despise apple and have gotten rid of all apple devices I've owned. But man.. Android just doesn't seem built well for business use yet. Freaking gifs in the gboard keyboard and stupid alerts. I'm not a 13 year old girl. Also wtf is with setting calendar invite times by spinning hands on a clock? This is how I teach my niece to tell time.. Again I'm an adult, I'd prefer to type in the time by default, if kids need to set calendar invites fine have a clock face icon they can click, not the other way around... jesus is everyone a child now? /rant [link] [comments] |

Why hasn’t my Samsung Galaxy Tab E updated to Android O? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 05:11 PM PDT Why hasn't it? It just got the Android N update last August. Why does it take a long time to get the updates? [link] [comments] |
Galaxy s8 lock button on case broke Posted: 27 Apr 2018 09:34 PM PDT Very minor issue, but the rubber lock screen actuator on my case broke off, so I'm wondering if there is a shortcut or widget that I can use that will lock my device. [link] [comments] |
Google allo used over 15GB of data in the background. Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:54 AM PDT Has anyone else experienced this? I checked the last 3 previous month's data usage and at most it used 750mb. Allo is reporting this amount of data since December 2017. This is a huge difference to what my phone has been reporting. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:45 PM PDT Let's say my app is called Full VR viewer. If VR compatible apps or functions are launched, I want the Full VR Viewer app to be temporarily deactivated either automatically or via a magnetic lever. The general phone interaction will be made via a single pointer in the center of the screen. The Full VR Viewer controls, like switching on/off in VR apps, if required will be in the bottom. All controls will use head tracking. This app will be useful for controlling the phone without taking the phone out. It should not be rooted or use custom roms/hacks like XPosed module. It should work on any normal android phones. Please give me suggestions. [link] [comments] |

My Android tablet charger fell in water. Is it still safe to use it? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:23 PM PDT Should I let it dry out overnight? It didn't touch a lot of water. Or should I get a new one? [link] [comments] |
Hangouts without SMS integration? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:00 PM PDT My wife lost SMS integration in Hangouts a while ago. Google had articles explaining it was going away in May of last year. I still have it though. Is there a rhyme or reason why I would have SMS in Hangouts after all these articles said it was going away and my wife doesn't? [link] [comments] |

Android 'Opt-out' Ads EVERYWHERE Posted: 27 Apr 2018 12:05 PM PDT Hi folks, I bought this Note 8 in December and haven't had an issue until this week. Seemingly at random, I began being served pop up adverts literally anywhere in the UI. Even when all the apps are closed or in either launcher. Small ones, full screen, autoplay videos, the works. I've searched high and low for a resolution, but just found more people with the same issue. So I'm being served ads from an application with no way of finding out which one unless I factory reset? Is there not a better way of resolving this? I've tried using 'Last Used' within Play Store to identify the app, but it just shows Nova Launcher as most recent. I contacted them and they 'categorically do not serve ads in any way'. Please see link for screenshots of the ads. https://imgur.com/a/oK0S8DN If you click opt out on any of the ads, you are redirected to a website: optout.tracker.ared.re/optout/mobile =blablablabla (this is not a real link) where it prompts you to install another app. Super lost with this one, would really appreciate not having to factory reset and install my apps one by one which was Samsung's advice... Thanks in advance for your advice and expertise! [link] [comments] |
Not receiving Google calendar invites Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:05 PM PDT I'm not receiving Google calendar invites either as a notification or email from anyone. They're not going into my calendar automatically. When someone adds me to a Gmail calendar event it stays as "Awaiting" as I cannot accept or decline it. I've checked the email notification is on (and I've tried toggling it off and on). The sender can email me normally. Any ideas what's wrong? I've tried all of the resolutions I've found online to no avail. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Need help in adding Degoo and Sync as Cloud Storage in Mixplorer Posted: 27 Apr 2018 05:17 PM PDT Basically what the title says. I know Mixplorer has a Add Custom Storage option and I'm trying to add Degoo and Sync without much success. [link] [comments] |
Ungroup Gmail emails in the app . Posted: 27 Apr 2018 05:04 PM PDT How do I ungroup emails on Gmail app ? Don't really like my emails grouped into one conversation. Thanks Unchecking "conversation view" in the general setting didn't do anything. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:21 PM PDT I trust Google enough to sync my passwords, but not enough to do so without using the "Passphrase" feature. Apparently doing so breaks basic functionality of the new Android 8+ Autofill Feature. I accidentally saved a password for an app that I did not want to save and I simply can't delete the entry! https://i.imgur.com/DNNFRhp.jpg <- this doesn't work, since passwords.google.com only works for those who don't use the passphrase feature. Deleting the entry in Chrome doesn't work either, it simply keeps coming back. And I'm unable to add ANY kind of "Never Save" entry for apps, I'm just getting a "Error when adding to list" message. Switching to a Google-Test-Account on the same device that doesn't use the passphrase feature and everything is working fine. Am I the only one using the passphrase feature and Google Autofill on Oreo? Anyone else with the same issues? Any solution (beyond removing my passphrase)? [link] [comments] |

Help with Galaxy Tab E. SM-T377A Posted: 27 Apr 2018 04:01 PM PDT I was attempting to remove the FRP on this ATT version when I did something terribly wrong. It now will only allow me to enter download mode. I tried to flash all versions I could find for the stock firmware and ODIN fails at boot.img. I tried with PIT and without and all sorts of variations. No luck. Download mode shows: ODIN MODE PRODUCT NAME SM-T377A CURRENT BINARY SAMSUNG OFFICIAL SYSTEM STATUS OFFICIAL FRP LOCK ON SECURE DOWNLOAD ENABLED KNOX WARRANTY VOID 0 0X0000 AP SWREV B3 K1 S2 Regular booting says: An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in smart switch PC software What exactly do i need to flash to unbrick this? I have spent at least 20 hours on this. [link] [comments] |
Why is Snapchat bad on Android? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:48 PM PDT I used my boyfriend's Samsung Galaxy to use Snapchat, but it was really bad quality, compared to my iPhone. Even he agrees. Why is that? [link] [comments] |
Edit or add to the list of 'most used sharing apps'? Android 8.0 Posted: 27 Apr 2018 12:56 PM PDT First, my phone is relatively new so that may explain it. Second, I am not sure if this is an app specific issue or a general issue. In the app 'piktures' when I long press and choose share only my sms client is in the list of options. I would like to be able to choose other things like Dropbox or my email client. There does not seem to be away to do this within the app itself, nor does it seem to be an issue with permissions. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Possible to Cast on Fire Tablet After Installing Google Play Store? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 10:49 AM PDT I am interested in the Amazon Fire Tablet, but only really interested if I can cast from Google Play Movies, YouTube and Netflix and other apps after installing the Google Play app. Does anyone know if this is possible? I've watched a ton of videos on how to download Google Play on the Fire Tablet, but have yet to find a demonstration on casting from Google apps. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Made The Switch and Love It! Just One Thing Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:17 AM PDT Ditched the iPhone after 8 years, I've been missing out to say the least. My S9 plus is awesome but when I get texts I just get the "1 New Message" how to I get it to show the contact name like the iPhone does, without showing the whole message? I like to think I'm relatively private but I like to see where the message is coming from, without showing the actual message on my lock screen. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!
