How does google photos know who people are?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 10:10 AM PDT

There's a setting that says if friends identify people on Google photos then they'll be idenitfied on your account too (or vice versa) but I've never had a box pop up that says "is this so-and-so?" This has happened to me on Facebook though.

Can anyone help me with duplicate notifications issue?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 06:26 PM PDT

My MLB At Bat app was locking up so I deleted and reinstalled it. Then I started to get two duplicate notifications every time. Tried deleting it again, clearing cache and clear the data. Now I'm getting three notifications.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

How Can I Block These Voicemails?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 09:14 PM PDT

I keep receiving these voicemails and they tend to be related to making my phone app crash every time I open my phone app.

EDIT: Once I downloaded a different phone application from the Play Store and deleted the voicemail, my main phone application will open. Phone App Open

How to copy Wifi networks and passwords from old phone to new phone? Possible with Google backup?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 08:32 PM PDT

My new phone is a Pixel 2 XL, my old phone is a Nexus 6P. I had the Google backup enabled for device settings, which is described as saving wifi networks and passwords. I set up my new phone and it did not copy anything over. I can go into my Google Drive and see that there is a "Nexus 6P Backup" listed under the backups section, but I don't know what to do with that.

When will Samsung release a new smart watch? Is it too late to buy a Samsung Gear S3? What other smart watches are good?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:08 PM PDT

I am thinking about buying a smart watch. Samsung Gear S3 looks great but it came out 1.5 years ago. I don't want to buy something now then in a few months a new one comes out. Also

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 07:38 PM PDT

    Note5 N920a how to update w/out root?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 07:29 PM PDT

I've been dissatisfied with my Note for awhile. At&t haven't updated in a long time. Is there a way I can update the phone to Oreo or a newer version than Android 6.0.1 without rooting or jailbreaking it?

Without using smart lock, how can I "toggle" the password unlock option from appearing when I turn of my screen?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 07:53 AM PDT

My old Android 5 device had an option (using Power Toggles) where I could toggle if I wanted the lockscreen/password input option after I turn off the screen/press the power button.

I don't want to use any location based unlock or anything like that.

Right now the only toggle that works is the "keep the screen turned on".

Android 7.1 - LineageOS - Unrooted but I have adb root - I prefer to not install random APKs from the web to enable this feature

What does 'Phone Idle' on Android devices actually mean?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:40 AM PDT

I asked this question in the subreddit of the phone (xperia xz1 compact) I was having an issue with and was told I should check whether this is a general issue with Android devices.

To my understanding, 'Phone Idle' is supposed to convey the amount of battery your phone is using when it is not active (screen is off, no music playing or anything). Therefor, one would expect that process to only consume battery for the duration of time the phone is actually idle. So if I charge my phone to a 100%, unplug it, use it for 1 hour and let it sit on the table for 2, then the Phone Idle process should show that it consumed so and so mAh in 2 hours.

Now here's the problem: that process is always in 'use'. If I unplug my phone 2 hours ago, then the process will show that it consumed battery for 2 hours (or however long the phone was unplugged for), regardless of the actual time it was truly idle. This seemed to also be the case for everyone else using that model.

So on to my question: is this also the case for all Android devices? If so, what does Phone Idle even mean in that case?

Anyone have any experience buying used phones off B&H?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 06:56 PM PDT

I'm looking to buy a used phone off of B&H since they have the best price but not only have I never bought a used phone, I never used B&H before. They seem to have a 90 day warranty and a 30 day return policy which looks pretty standard. Anyone have any experience with them?

After Factory Reset, is data still recoverable?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 06:17 PM PDT

Hi, i did a factory reset on my Galaxy S8 so I could sell it. Will that be enough to clear the phone and prevent the data from being scanned and recovered? There appears to be tons of software available that provides recovery of personal files, like Easeus for example. Thx in advance!

How can I backup all of my Google Authenticator data?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 12:54 PM PDT

I want to reset my phone and install a different ROM. One thing I'm afraid of is losing my 2FA data.

Assuming my Android phone is rooted, what's a safe method to export the data so that I can import it into apps like WinAuth?

And if I'm not rooted, what are my options?

Pixel won't "Send to" one specific voicemail message

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:38 PM PDT

    Hi!

So my friend has a voicemail from her dad who passed away that she really would like to save, but nothing works with getting it off the device. The message before and after can be sent just fine, it is just this one very special message that refuses to be sent and saved somewhere else.

Does anybody have any ideas? We tried the method of using the male-to-male headphone jack with audacity, but this did not work.

Shouldn't this be easier? Google has been no help either...

    Thanks!

How can I set a static IP address on my mobile data?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:30 PM PDT

Long story short, I have a spare phone that I plan on running a small website on and maybe using it as an IP camera in a place with cell reception but no internet. The phone will be connected to cellular data. How can I set a static IP on my cellular data plan so I can remotely access this phone via SSH if need be?

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini on Telus.

If this isn't the right sub, I apologize.

Talk to me about installing a new alarm app...

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 10:30 AM PDT

I have a Galaxy S9. I can't find a way to have the app ramp the volume up.

If I installed the stock google app, will I just set my alarms in that from now on? What if the system kills the app? Will it still work.

Recovering data from an S6 with a dead screen?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 11:30 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I have a Verizon S6 that I accidentally broke the screen on. I dumbly failed to back up the data in any way, but I would really like to recover my old pictures, texts, etc. The phone is fully functional except the screen doesn't turn on or accept touch input. It was set on USB "charging only" before the screen went down. Is there any way at all to override this to pull my data off? Thank you!

Applying security updates when downgrading firmware

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 03:02 PM PDT

Hi all, I'm considering downgrading my Verizon S7 from Android 7 to Android 6 because some software I really need no longer works on Android 7. I am wondering what the process is for applying security patches. I am particularly concerned about the KRACK patch. I see a bunch of news articles on OTA carrier updates for patching Android 6, but I am having trouble finding which firmware releases (if any) would include that patch also. Any info or guidance is appreciated.
