How do I know if my M.2 slots support NVMe?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:24 AM PST

I'm building a PC that will have two 960 Pros connected to it, and I'm shopping for motherboards.

I'm struggling to understand which motherboard support 960 Pros. I learned that 960 Pros need M.2 with PCIe 3.0 x4 support, to support NVMe. But I'm not sure if that's exactly right.

For example: X299 Carbon Pro says its M.2 slots support PCIe 3.0 x4, but later it says "M.2 slots, U.2 port and SATA ports share the same bandwidth."

Have I been making the wrong assumption about PCIe 3.0 x4 supporting NVMe?

(It later says that the U.2 port "supports NVMe storage", which makes me think that PCIe 3.0 x4 doesn't necessarily = NVMe support.)

Here's my full options list of motherboards.

Just ordered my new PC parts and I'm super excited... did I do good or?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 01:24 PM PST

I'm upgrading from an i5-4460 with a 750 ti and it has been a very hard year+ of editing game files, installing different drivers and optimising windows until it was basically naked to get decent enough FPS for my 144hz monitor. I also stream... and well that was quite horrendous considering I play competitive shooters.

What do you guys think of my new build? I'm super stoked to get it and build it! I know the GPU will bottleneck the CPU but I stream so that headroom in CPU power is the reason I got it. I still think the GPU is good enough though right?

Here's the list of the parts I got today:

First time working in an MATX, much tighter. BUT this case was fantastic.

Have 2 more fans coming on the way (be quiet silent wings 3). Since I have a small gpu, there's actually enough room for a push/pull intake for my front radiator!

Have it currently overclocked to 4ghz at 1.39v Max temp under p95 test was 65c. So extremely happy with this ryzen chip that I got.

temps will drop a bit when I have the other fans and the fan controller installed... didn't have enough fan headers for all the fans so only have 2 intake 1 exhaust atm lol.

Upgraded from an i5 750 that was overclocked to the same speed. HOwever, CPU mark for the i5 was around 4k... the r5 1600 CPU mark was almost 14k. :D

woo! Can finally play the FPS's that i want without crashing/lagging out haha

Having issues with pretty much all my games freezing up at random. There is no error message. I'll just be playing along, everything is normal, no FPS dip or screen lag, and then everything just stops. I'm able to blindly open a command prompt and taskkill the game, but it's obviously not making things fun.

I have updated drivers. Currently running gameready driver version 391.01, but it was happening on the last version as well. Temps have all been staying well below the threshold. Peaks out at about 60C, and doesn't stay there for long. Really at a loss of what might've happened. Nothing changed as far as I know (maybe some windows updates), and it was running fine for a good 4-5 months before hand. Nothing in the eventlogs that point to the issue either.

    Thanks for any assistance!!

After 2+ months, I finally got my PC up and ready. This is Project Fusion

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 01:33 PM PST

After Christmas, I sold my 4yr-old PC to build a new one. Unfortunately, the shop from which I buy all my components went offline both for inventory and site updates. It went back online after a couple of weeks, but then it closed again due to problems to their site.

I did buy the case after christmas from another shop and the GPU from Amazon before the prices went crazy at the end of January (planning to upgrade it in a year or two, if prices will be acceptable). Today I got my package and I did it. My 2nd PC.

    Such an amazing experience... again!

    This is my build:

Blew dust out of pc, now it won't post. CPU debug led is on

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 01:17 PM PST

Anyone know what could have happened? I had a guy coming to look at my pc to buy it. I cleaned everything up, including blowing the dust out of the case. Now it won't post and the msi motherboard is showing a problem with the cpu.

I have verified all the cables are plugged in, and even switched psu's. I also reseated the ram and gpu.

This is a watercooled build, so I can't just pull the block and reset the cpu.

I tried clearing the cmos also. It's not showing the activity light for the ssd, and my mouse and keyboard won't light up. I can't even get to the bios.

    BSOD's on a new build

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:25 AM PST

    Troubleshooting Help:

    **What is your parts list?

    Build

**Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

Built a brand new pc. I'm having random BSOD's and cannot find the cause of the issue. Here is the screenshot of the latest BSOD's. The crashes mainly happen when im ingame, currently happened in both DS3 and Path of Exile. Any possible info that could help me trace the issue is greatly appriciated.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

Heard some people have issues with the latest Nvidia driver mainly when playing path of exile, so i rolled back 1 version. I've set my ram to run at 3000mhz currently in the bios without messing with any kinds of voltages or similar manualy.

Complete Beginner to building a PC, but need to buy a new Graphics Card.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 11:09 AM PST

Hi, I'm completely new to this kinda thing, but I brought a gaming PC a while back and in short, it sucks. Games such as Borderlands 2 lag and Modded Skyrim is a pain to play. These are my specs, - AMD A6-6400K APU 3.90 Ghz
    - 8.00 GB RAM - AMD Radeon HD 8470D - Windows 10

I've been told I have an APU and that it sucks, so my best option is to get a Graphics Card. I have an integrated card already. I think. But, I just want something simple and affordable for me to run those kinda things. I'm looking to spend £50-60, I know this isn't much but I'm a student so money is tight lol.

Build was finalized. After watching multiple reviews of the case, I obviously need a different case. Either temporary or permanent case will do (explained in details).

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 11:07 AM PST

I completely love the build that I've created with the help from this community. However the case I finally decided on is completely flawed I'm talking about the Cooler Master H500P. After watching multiple reviews of this case there are just too many things to overlook. I know they are releasing a fixed version (H500P Mesh) of the H500P case in a couple months. So I can either buy a cheap case now and buy the updated version when it comes out or buy something as good or better than that case. I know they just announced the white version of H500P mesh that yesterday. I really hate white. Below is my finalized build...minus a case of course.

So this is where I need help:

    1) It needs to be able to have room for the CPU radiator (280mm)

    2) It needs to be able to support the length of the Graphics card (320mm)

    3) Has good airflow.

    4) If this is going to be my permanent case I would really like tempered glass and black

    Blackscreen Problem

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:17 AM PST

I recently finished building my first custom pc. I installed Windows 10 64bit. Once finished I downloaded the drivers for my gpu (Geforce GTX 1060 6g) and motherboard (Gigabyte AB350M-Gaming3) off of each products website. Once I downloaded and installed these drivers I restarted. After the opening screen giving the shortcut to the BIOS, the computer then blackscreens. I've searched for similar problems but it appears the blackscreens occur during installation for most people not after restart. I'm not very adept with using BIOS so I haven't gone in and done anything since the initial check before the Windows 10 installation. Any help would be appreciated.

I havent used my PSU for 5 years. Should I get a new one?

Hi! I have an 550W Chieftec ctg-550-80p PSU that I bought in 2011 and used it for 3 years (I switched to laptops). Now I would like to build a new PC, and as I have the old PSU, I considered reusing it.

Will it damage my new board and electronics?
