Voicemail received, was a recorded conversation. Posted: 30 Mar 2018 11:19 AM PDT I missed a call earlier, and they left a voicemail. I googled the number and it came up as a debt collection agency.. but the voicemail was a recording of a conversation between me, my wife and my 3 year old son that we had Monday night while she was watching American idol. Does any one have any idea what might be going on? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to tell which USB wall plugs will charge my RCA Voyager III tablet. Posted: 30 Mar 2018 07:19 PM PDT I recently bought a RCA Voyager III tablet (Android 7.0) and in general I am very satisfied with my purchase. It's which is perhaps the best $40 I have ever spent. This was an upgrade from an old Lenovo tablet my Dad gave me that ran Android 3.0. I was not expecting mutch for $40, just the ability to run official Microsoft Office apps, an up to date version of Firefox, and the ability to successfully connect to bluetooth keyboards successfully. Suffice it to say that my expectations were exceeded. Dad's old tablet was not an adiquite backup for when my laptop is in the shop. This is so much more than adequate that my laptoo now lives on my desk most of the time. However, I'm having a devil of a time trying to figure out which wall plugs will charge my tablet by USB. RCA tablets have a proprietary power-only port. The charger supplied for that port supplies 5 volts and 1 amp. My tablet also has a micro-usb port that can handle both power and data. The USB wall plugs I own and which I have tried with the tablet include:
Obviously I know not to buy a plug less powerful then my official charger, but it seems like any as or more powerful plug will be a crapshoot. Is there a rule of thumb that I can use to figure out which plugs will work before I buy one? [link] [comments] |
Why is the Google Pixel cheaper than the Galaxy S7? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 02:44 PM PDT I thought they were roughly equivalent in specs, but in Sweden the Pixel costs around 25% less than the S7 does. Since the S9 is out shouldnt the S7 be very cheap now? is the S7 just a better phone? [link] [comments] |

Need help making my company-owned Galaxy S8 non-traceable for this weekend Posted: 30 Mar 2018 09:18 PM PDT My employer owns my S8, but I still have my iPhone X, personal phone. My job requires me to be on-call any time, any day. I told my management team that, for personal reasons, I'll be in Arizona this weekend. I said this because I haven't had a full day off in almost 2 1/2 years. I just need a weekend to myself. No phone, no work. Just me and my girlfriend. I don't want to come back to work on Monday to find out they know I never left my apartment. What do I need to do to make my phone not bounce off from local cell towers? I need it hidden for the weekend. It's Verizon if that helps. Thanks. Edit: it's currently on airplane mode [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2018 09:00 PM PDT I figured now is a good a time as any to switch out of the dumpster fire that is iTunes. What's the best Mac music player that works with Android? [link] [comments] |
How do i get my status bar back? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 04:46 PM PDT Is there a option for this? I'm using Nova launcher on a s9+. I don't know what I did but the status bars shows only when I'm inside an app. When I'm at my home screen it goes away except for the battery symbol. [link] [comments] |
Help me decide on a new flagship and apps! Posted: 30 Mar 2018 08:19 PM PDT Hello, I'm looking to get a new phone, specifically a current flagship. I think I've narrowed it down to the Pixel 2XL, but I wanted to run it by this sub and see if there are better options for what I want to do. Basically I'm unsure if the Pixel 2 XL is the right phone based on my criteria, and I'm less sure if what I want to do with the phone can be accomplished other ways. I'd greatly appreciate help picking a phone and the best apps/ways to go about doing the following: 1.) Block all ads (or as many as possible) on the phone without using VPN. For youtube there is vanced or newpipe and for browser there is firefox with Ublock. But for the rest of the phone I think you need to root and get adaway or something similar to eliminate all ads without using a VPN. Is this true? The Pixel 2 XL decision follows along from here, because if I need to root I don't want to void the warranty and as far as I know only Google has a current gen flagship where you can root and not void it. Not to mention very easy bootloader unlock. But if there is a way to block all ads without root or VPN on another flagship I'd be keen to know. I know SABS/Adhell was a thing for the S9+, but it seems samsung will continue to make that difficult. 2.) Not break safetynet and retain certified playstore while priority #1 is in effect. In other words I use netflix and need it to work properly. I'm assuming this means magisk would need to be flashed prior to the factory image now? If I have to root to do #1 that is. Again this seemed to lead me to Pixel 2 XL as it is probably the easiest to get stock images, and hardest to bootloop if I fuck up (which as a relative n00b I might do), and if I do I believe I can still send it in. 3.) Minimize 2nd and 3rd party data mining/spying. I'm not quite ready to go with a google-less phone running only FOSS and LineagOS or something. Maybe someday. But for now I'd just like to minimize the amount of data that leaves the phone, and the companies that get to access it. My understanding is that the Pixel as setup above will probably only have google+carrier receiving data, which again seems a notch better than say sony or samsung also getting access to said data. 4.) As much reliability and stability as possible. It sounds bad, but the easier things are and the less I need to think about/fiddle with them the better. I have too many other projects to tinker on, this just needs to be a daily driver. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit here to satisfy #1-3, but I just want to make it clear on this phone I'm not going to be flashing new ROMs each week. My understanding is that if I do need to root, OTA updates will be a no-go and every time I want to update, I'll have to re-flash everything basically. Not very desirable, and if there was a better alternative I'd take it, but not the end of the world. This is where I really don't know if Pixel 2 XL would be best, as I understand it the updates come faster than most. Other than that, long battery life is a plus. Please let me know what you all would recommend I do to meet these criteria as best I can, both in terms of which phone to get and then how to set it up to meet them. Also please correct anything I may have wrong above, I am by no means an expert. If there is a better/easier way to do something I'm all ears. Thanks in advance for the advice! [link] [comments] |
Android file transfer not preserving metadata Posted: 30 Mar 2018 01:25 PM PDT Pretty much the title. When transferring files to my Mac, it does not preserve the meta data of the files I'm working with, which is important especially when they're pictures, etc. There are other solutions, but they either require cloud or USB debugging to be enabled, which I don't want. Help? [link] [comments] |
Phone with good T-Mobile radio support and as close to vanilla Android as possible? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 07:09 PM PDT Seriously considered the LG V30 there for a while, but I've always been a Nexus guy. I've owned a Nexus 6, currently own a faulty Nexus 6P (bad GPS), and I'd love to go for the Pixel/Pixel 2 but with all the hardware issues they have I'm not paying a price premium. Is there a good contender out there that's a Nexus-like phone (lack of bloatware, good community support) but is only a generation or so behind? I've looked at the 5T, but am worried about the 'watercolor' images people are complaining about and the complete lack of support from OnePlus once they move onto the next generation (bugs like the 911 reboot definitely don't help) I know getting the 600mhz band is going to be tough, there's only 1 phone that supports it so far, the V30 -- but are there any upcoming devices, or any existing devices that have good radio support for T-Mobile? There's just no beating this $30/mo 100/unlim/unlim plan... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:55 PM PDT I just got a new phone, and before my old phone completely died I backed up all my contacts, call logs, and messages on G Cloud. When I installed it on my new phone I did a restore backup from the old device and everything worked properly except for my text messages. I believe this may be because my number hasn't been completely ported over to the different carrier yet and text messaging isn't working at the moment. The problem is, when I look at G Cloud now, it seems to have overwritten the old phone data with the new one, so now I don't have any messages saved, whereas just a few minutes ago it was thousands of messages. Is there any way to retrieve the old data, or is it gone now? [link] [comments] |
How to automatically set Bluetooth volume to max for car? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:49 PM PDT Hello all, I'm having an issue with my Google Pixel 2, running Android 8.1.0. Previously when I had an iPhone, the device was able to distinguish multiple set volumes for different previously connected Bluetooth devices. For example, my headphones would be set to whatever they were at previously (50%) while the car stereo would remain at 100% (Max volume). I'm finding Android does not have this consistency, instead treating BT Volume as a unified label for all devices. As such, when I go into my car to leave for work 4 1/2 I find my volume is slightly lower, and have to adjust it on the device itself. Im wondering if there's anyway to have my phone automatically set "BT Volume" to 100% upon connecting to my car's stereo system, as opposed to remaining at whatever it was set at previously. Hopefully this can be done via system settings, but I'm assuming Tasker or Automate will be able to solve this issue as well (FWIW, I tried the latter of these two, but found no success both via my own discovery and searching for a recipe within the apps browser). Specs for the phone are listed above. Specs for the Bluetooth device are available upon request if anyone feels they are necessary. Any help? Thanks again! [link] [comments] |

[Help] Samsung Galaxy S8 MMS recieved as group chats in messenger? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 05:25 PM PDT I recently converted from the iPhone 7+ to a Galaxy S8+ and loving the change. But whenever someone sends me a picture, I receive it through messenger as a group chat with the sender, and myself twice. It's really irritating because if I reply I get my own message back, but the images dont then appear in my thread with that person so I need to hunt group chats to find stuff thats been sent. Any ideas? Cheers! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2018 04:07 PM PDT I watch a lot of podcasts that are 2-3 hours long and in the past, my YouTube app would remember the exact location I left off and resume when I click on that video again. No longer that is the case. I also DON'T have "Watch History" or "Search History" disabled. I've also tried things like: Clearing the Cache and Deleting App Data, Re-installing the app etc.. I have no idea WTF is going on. This is a huge feature I depended on. Any advice? [link] [comments] |

I have the BLU Studio M6, and every time I pull up a gif, or video.. if it is less than 1080p it shrinks to that size and the rest of the player is green. YouTube works, but everything else doesnt. Is there a way to setup missed text reminder? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 03:52 PM PDT I'm not a socially active person so I don't always get a lot of text so I don't always check my phone for messages. Is there a way to have the notification go off at intervals until read? [link] [comments] |

How to fix Google calendar events disabling other notifications? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 03:38 PM PDT My dad(not an idiot with this sort of thing) has a Moto g4 (running 7.0) and is a lawyer who has multiple cases a day. He uses the Google calendar for all his events (other appointments etc) and cases, and recently he says that during events, all notifications (ie phone calls and the like) are disabled, and I, my family's IT guy, haven't been able to figure out the issue. Any idea how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
Did Google discontinue the weather homescreen shortcut? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 09:09 AM PDT I have used this as my primary weather app for many months. Yesterday it stopped displaying any information and when I deleted it from my home screen, there was no longer the option in Google settings to place it back in the home screen. Am I missing something? [link] [comments] |
DLNA servers appearing and disappearing on Galaxy S8. Posted: 30 Mar 2018 02:59 PM PDT Hey.. I have an issue where DLNA servers on my network appear and disappear periodically from my android phone (Galaxy S8). Sometimes none of them show up, other times only some of them show up, and sometimes all of them show up. I've found that if I reboot the phone, it will usually, but not always start showing the missing ones when it comes back up, using any software that can display DLNA servers like AnDLNA or Samsung Video (in Samsung Gear). I originally thought this was an issue with Samsung Gear until I installed AnDLNA and found that it always shows the same DLNA servers, or lack thereof, that show up in programs like Samsung Video instead of the Gear VR. Anyone know of a way to fix this? If nothing else, does anyone know of a service I could restart to hopefully get the missing servers to show back up without having the reboot the phone through a program like Package Disabler? Thanks. Sean Dudley [link] [comments] |
Completely disable photo backup and cloud upload button in Google photos? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 02:43 PM PDT With a Google Pixel 2, in the photos app I have back up & sync turned off. But when I'm viewing photos there is still a cloud button at the top right, if clicked it will upload the photo I'm currently viewing to the cloud. Is there a way to completely remove/disable this feature, so that the cloud button isn't there at all anymore? [link] [comments] |

Oreo update on Note 8 Olympic Edition Posted: 30 Mar 2018 02:04 PM PDT I have a Note 8 Olympic Edition from the Olympics and I live in Canada. The Note 8 is a SM-950N which is the Korean/ International version. Oreo is rolling out in Canada but my Note 8 still has 7.1.1. Samsung Canada has not provided any help and tells me to contact customer service in Korea. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to update to 8.0? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Question regarding emojis missing from keyboard Posted: 30 Mar 2018 01:59 PM PDT So, when I open the keyboard on some apps (facebook messenger and instagram mostly) and go into the emojis there are some that are missing (the faces to be more specific). I know it's not that big of a deal but if any of you can help me with it I'd appreciate it. I've tried every solution I found but nothing helps. Thanks in advance.
