    An ultrabook(?) with upgradeable RAM?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:31 AM PDT

Hi all! I am in the search to buy an ultrabook (or a light laptop) that checks the following specs: Any ideas? Details in form below:

    • Total budget and country of purchase: don't care

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

    • upgradeable RAM (meaning NOT soldered on the motherboard)

    • somewhere between 13 and 14 inches

    • usb-c port supporting 4-lanes thunderbolt

    • minimum bezels would also be an extra

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Quite, although not as important as width and depth dimensions. As stated above, minimal bezels are a plus.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-14

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. No

    Matebook X any good?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 01:02 PM PDT

Hey guys, I just came across the matebook x (not the pro) and was wondering if it was any good. Im thinking of buying the i7 version with 8gb of RAM and a 512GB SSD as well as a 2K screen. All of this for 1300 CAD sounds really really nice considering the lack of equally good looking laptops that are also in that ~1000 category. I am a student, so the vast majority of the time spent on this would be just moderately heavy web browsing and document creation. For games I go no harder than fortnite so that's not really an issue. If anyone has owned/had experience with the matebook X, please let me know.

    Thanks!!

Same GPU and CPU in Dell xps 15 2 in 1 and hp spectre x360 15, will they have differeing performances though?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:54 AM PDT

I'm a noob when it comes to these things, if they have the same GPU, CPU and cooling capabilities, will they provide the same performance?

Dell Xps 15 2 in 1 spec suggestions

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:26 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I think I settled on getting the new dell xps 2 in 1. Will be used for personal use and business, but mostly nothing more than Microsoft Office, browsing, watching movies.

What are the most efficient specs to get?

Not sure if there is a need to upgrade to i7, 16gb ram or 4k screen

Acer Nitro 5 or Aspire 7?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:28 AM PDT

    Nitro 5: i5-7300HQ/8GB/256+1000/GTX1050Ti Aspire 7: i7-7700HQ/8GB/1000/GTX1050Ti

I can get them for the same price. Aspire 7 has a better design and is a bit slimmer, but I'd need to add an SSD and I've already stretched my budget. Is there a reason why it'd definitely be worth buying over Nitro?

I don't care about the CPU, i5 is enough for my needs and it might even help with cooling compared to i7.

    Any advice?

What's the best 2-in-1 laptop ~1600$ can get?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 07:30 AM PDT

These are my findings so far:

    • Surface Book 2 (Not the best for this price range)
    • HP Spectre x360 15 (Looks great for the money but apparently there's a lot of QC issues)
    • Lenovo Yoga (Doesn't seem to stand out for anything but that could be good)

I'll be using the 2-in-1 form factor mostly for taking notes in classes with a pen. I currently have a Surface Pro 4 but it's dying out on me so I need something to replace it.

I got the Acer Aspire e5-576G-5762 today and I have one issue

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 09:55 PM PDT

    Specs: Intel i5-8250U and MX150

When plugged in the CPU clock speed goes up to 3ghz while gaming but the performance is way worse. If I unplug it I run fine and get solid FPS but Plugged in its terrible. Any suggestions?

What 2400MHz SODIMM RAM stick Would You Recommend?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2018 02:48 AM PDT

I found out that my laptop (Dell 7577) came with a single stick of 16GB or RAM, much to my surprise. As such, I'm looking for a decent stick of RAM to fill in the second RAM slot, and I'm wondering what you would recommend.

Incidentally, I was also wondering if there was any risk of compatibility issues that might arise if I used RAM sticks with different CAS latency timings.

    Looking for new laptop

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 05:56 PM PDT

Hey laptop crew. As the post says I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm going back to school for computer programming so want something that will help in a future career in programming. Budget is pretty open don't wanna spend more then $2000 if I don't have to. Probably won't be used much for gaming. Maybe to stream through but mostly play on console. I'm also at the debate of do I finally go Mac or stay PC. Which would be my better option. Any suggestions on which direction to take. Thanks everyone

    Battery question! Please help :3

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 09:24 PM PDT

Sorry if this might be a dumb question, but I have one of those budget laptops (HP Stream) that has the battery integrated it seems, and I can't really figure a way to take it out. Sooo, I'm wondering, what's the best way to extend the overall life of my battery? Should I keep it charged (I use it at home 100% of the time with easy access to an outlet), or should I just have it run off battery life and charge when low?

TIA to anyone who can help :)

Are Razer laptops known to break after a year?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 04:11 PM PDT

I have been thinking of buying a Razer laptop but apparently according to many Razer laptops die usually right after their warranty and customer support doesn't do anything? I saw a lot of people saying this on reviews for amazon but that might just be a troll, has anyone owned a Razer deathblade(of any type) and had it break down after a year?

i'll buy the gaming mi laptop as soon as i can

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 03:58 PM PDT

Unless it's overpriced (850€+ for basic configuration).

Thanks for reading. You can comment whatever you want, but after months of research I'm between Gigabyte 14K V7 and this. Almost 1000€ of difference between both, yet the hardware is quite similar for me. I'm open to answer questions. And yes, I'll do a fast text-review as soon as I get it.

New 2018 Dell XPS 15 9575 with 4k display - does it use PWM?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 02:39 PM PDT

About XPS 15 9575 2-in-1 a little disappointed that this wonderful laptop has flaws 1. memory is soldered 2. no option for 32GB RAM available 3. there is no additional slot for extra SSD M.2 Drive ( like on LG Gram 15Z980) 4. poor webcam position (below the screen)

Now lots of people wants to know about PWM Flickering presence on this new xps

Who is the manufacturer of the screen? what's the brand - BOE, LG etc..

PWM is deal breaker for some of people who don't want eyestrain

    Budget Laptop For DJing

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:13 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $200-600, US

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best Specs

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? N/A

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mainly itunes and Audacity. Looking for a good soundcard, decent storage, and reliability

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I have a desktop for heavy gaming, but, if it's worth the price, I'd be willing to spend slightly more for something that could run, say, Fortnite or the like.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? RELIABLE!

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'd like a reliable computer that will last me a long time and will output good sound quality. The cheaper the better. Being able to play games is a plus.

    Thanks for reading!

HP Envy 13t which one to buy?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2018 04:27 PM PDT

    Hey all!

I am planning to buy an HP Envy 13t. Don't know what type though. I plan to use this for school and then uni. I will be studying engineering. The options are i5, 256gb,8gb, igpu OR i7 512gb ssd, 8gb ram, igpu OR i7, 256gb, 16gb, MX150.

The i5 is actually pricier than the i7 512gb so it is really out of the i7 512gb ssd, 8gb ram, igpu OR i7, 256gb, 16gb, MX150.

What do you guys think? btw does the Envy 13t have a wireless-n card? And do all variants have the fingerprint scanner? Also can the USB C output to an 4k monitor? It is not TB3.
