Posted: 31 Mar 2018 01:37 PM PDT I always get 100% disk use in task manager on boot up and then it goes down and everything is fine also goes up on an application launch.(kinda) my pc is so much slower than what it used to be (1060 6gb i5 and 8gb of ram) and today it was struggling to play overwatch a game I used to be able to play at 200ish FPS. I am going to take it to a pc specialist or soon if I can't fix it but I would like to save some money. If you have any form of help please let me know thanks <3 [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:14 PM PDT So I installed Windows 7 using a legal ISO image on my PC. It installed fine with no problems, then I installed the security updates for it to be safe and whatnot, then I formatted the USB drive that had the boot image, after downloading and installing the update my computer won't boot. It says "Startup Repair is checking your system for problems..." Left it there for multiple hours but still, nothing. Help? [link] [comments]

How to get back ethernet drivers from the windows.old folder? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 10:22 AM PDT So my pc crashed and i installed a diff version of windows, it created a folder named windows.old where all my old files are saved. But in the current version of windows I dont have internet access because the pc doesnt seem to be able to find the drivers I had in the older version. So im guessing that My drivers are stuck at the .old folder and I dont have a way to bring them back. [link] [comments]
Set primary monitor in multimonitor setup Posted: 31 Mar 2018 12:59 PM PDT I have 3 monitors at home. When I'm in Linux my main monitor that is directly in front of me is automatically the main monitor, most apps open on this by default. On windows, my monitor to the left which happens to be a tv is considered my main monitor. Most of the time I don't want this. How can I change which monitor is the default for apps/games to launch on. Also is there a way to send an application that is running on one monitor to another in windows? I can do this with my window manager hotkeys in Linux and it's very convenient. I should note I'm on windows 10 Pro. [link] [comments]
C programming in the WSL from VS Code Posted: 31 Mar 2018 03:59 PM PDT How can I enable debugging and whatnot for the WSL from VS Code? It works fine on my actual Linux machine but I would like to be productive on my main PC. I already have the include path pointing to the WSL's header directories but I don't see a way to make the rest of it work. [link] [comments]

Is it in any way possible to recover overwritten files? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:15 AM PDT Let's say quite a while ago my PC got into a boot loop and I tried everything to get my PC out of it, but alas nothing worked and I took it to service to let them repair it. A while after that, they informed me that their only fix is to factory reset, they told me they'd back up my files, so I was okay with it. After that, they returned my PC, everything reset with the .wim files for me to recover the files for me PC. I started the recovery program but it turns out for whatever reason it seems like only a portion of my drive was backed up, I only got around 14 GB worth of files recovered from the .wim files I've been given. Back then I shurgged, called it a day, and was okay with starting over anyway. That was three years ago. It was only recently that I came to the realization that deleted files could still be recovered. So, here's where my question comes to mind. Surely after three years of using my PC, a good portion of my drive has already been overwritten, but the thing is, is it at all possible to recover overwritten files from before my PC was reset years ago? It sounds like a stretch, sure, but what I'm asking is that is it at all possible for me to recover it? I've heard of these data recovery service centers who's specialized in recovering important data from major companies and were successful in even the most dire situations, so I was just wondering if my situation is any different. Thanks! Edit: Follow up question: As I've mentioned I've been given quite a couple of .wim files when my PC was handed back, and from it I was only able to recover around 14 GB, which is barely anything. To be exact, I'm using a DELL built PC, and what I was given after the reset was a folder consisting 97 .wim files (0.wim to 96.wim) along with "RecoveryMgr.exe" and "RecoveryMgr.ini" inside the folder consisting the .wim files. What I did was run the RecoveryMgr.exe to compile and export the .wim files. Is it possible that I missed a few steps to recover my PC? Could I have recovered more? [link] [comments]
What can affect a shared drive/NAS being seen by name or not seen by name, seemingly randomly? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 01:46 AM PDT Each time I reboot, I might be able to reach my NAS by name, //mynasname or not, and only the IP works. Nothing changing on the PC that I can tell. It used to work 100% of the time but now it seems random. This started in the new year. Yesterday I was fighting with a motherboard app installing/uninstalling older and older versions, so I was rebooting a lot. 5 of the times I could see my drive by name and 4 times I could not. Nothing was changed on the network settings so it must be a bug in windows insider or it is my router, but I can't think of what could make it different on reboots within 5 minutes. Any ideas? Should Apple offer Safari for Windows once again? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 05:24 AM PDT Does anyone remember using Safari for Windows back in the day? It's rather weird that Apple doesn't do that anymore, especially since Safari would likely be the same sort of program as iTunes and iCloud. [link] [comments]
[Win10] Show taskbar on secondary monitor click Posted: 30 Mar 2018 09:33 PM PDT In windows 7, if you are running a fullscreen application on your primary mointor, and click anywhere on your secondary monitor (be it another window or just on the desktop space there), it will overlay your taskbar on your primary monitor on top of your fullscreen application. For whatever, reason, this is no longer the case on windows 10 as far as i can tell (you can still do it if you use the Windows key). (I assume it was reported as a bug and changed at some point, but i was quite accustomed to using it to my advantage) Is there anything i can change (even if it's a registry key) to bring back this behavior?
