Android 4.2 Always on Voice Recognition Posted: 03 Mar 2018 01:40 PM PST So I'm trying to have voice recognition on a device that only runs Android 4.2.2 (and can't be upgraded unfortunately) that will always be listening so that the app will take a picture when a command is said, without the use of a button. What API should I be using? [link] [comments]

Should I Still Support x86 in 2018? Posted: 03 Mar 2018 03:49 PM PST I am a fairly new dev so apologies if this is common sense but I couldn't find too much discussion on the topic. Currently the app I develop supports the armeabi-v7a and arm64-v8a instruction sets but it also has x86 and x86_64 support. The min sdk version is 21 so it only runs on Android 5+. Is there any reason to keep x86 and x86_64 support in? It dramatically increases my app size and from what I can find almost all x86 android devices also support the arm instruction sets. There are also so few x86 devices to begin with from what I can find. Am I missing something here? What are the reasons to still include x86 support today? Are there modern devices that support only x86 and not the arm instruction sets? [link] [comments]
Right way to post a job in Upwork (For an Android App) Posted: 03 Mar 2018 03:34 PM PST Hi y'all, I have an idea for an Android app. Next Facebook type of thing so brace yourselves. This app uses your GPS location to link you with people that does something that you are interested and you want to join them. You set up a profile, and set up your status as looking for someone to join your group or you want to join a group. eventually it would have a more features but this is the jest of the MVP. App should be on Android. It also needs a website were you can also create a profile and maybe pay for a membership etc. My question is What am I looking for? what type of developer? What should be his/her expertise? Budget (ballpark)? is there anything else I should ask, clarify or know? Any guidance is greatly appreciated!! [link] [comments]

Can I post in androiddev for paid code reviewing help ? Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:45 AM PST hi guys, we have a production app that is about 3 years old now (since it was first written). We want some help in refactoring to kotlin, MVVM, etc with the current knowledge of best practices here. I frequently see people posting code for review and people here give a LOT of help. I'm wondering if I can request for paid code reviewing here ? I cant really post the code here, so wondering. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 05:56 AM PST I get so much spam to my developer email address. At least one per day, this is so annoying! It's almost something about paying for marketing, but also sometimes phishing attacks. What can I do about it? [link] [comments]
Is Project Treble a threat to Custom Kernel development? Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:21 PM PST Google introduced project treble last year, it separates all the low level drivers ('aka vendor implementation') from rest of Android routines. Does it mean that this project will affect the custom kernel development in future? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Mar 2018 02:36 AM PST I love coding, regretfully cannot find a job as android developer because I am always busy to keep up with the last developments in my limited free time(I have another no coding job). So I decided after 4 years I did android (serious) studies to exploit my analyst background to try to become a data analyst/ scientist. There is more demand, and there is less incertitude over the future. There is a way to find a job where I can do half a day Android development and half a day machine learning considering that freelance is not an option for me at he moment? Flutter the simple truth -an opinion Posted: 03 Mar 2018 05:07 AM PST My 2 cents Google is investing in Flutter for one reason. To fight with Native React. (my opinion) Kotlin also promises some inter-operability with Ios. Is similar to Swift, but could be used less and less specializing for app with architecture really complex, that isolate business logic, then Flutter or more likely reactJs will gradually take over everything, progressive apps will be the standard if the battery manufacturers development will improve. Performance is not a variable so important if there are releases. Eventually could have been obtained everything with Java with a nice library that made it less verbose, but the problem is that Java is not so "opensource"... Honestly the future is only one: things will evolve and improve. Most likely scenario is that will be one only language, and will be possibly JS with progressive apps everywhere, nodeJs in the background Do not be surprised by that, when we pinch and zoom, we are far from using ourselves for instance the real fourier math behind, so Kotlin, Java, Dart, KTX, Rx, React, JS are only some time efficient transformations, other times syntatic sugar, when we do SubscribeOn we are just adding one layer to the old Java Concurrency stuff. All the rest is business. No business logic, but logic of the business, money. Coding is always more similar, With all these inbuilt architectural patterns, I have sometimes the feeling I am using not Android studio but an Excel with muscles, have to learn a new method not new business logic. So we gotta accept that coding will become more easy and that the only stable languages that will remain are JS and C/C++ then we will have some super neural network able to write metacode in few years. Positive thing, when devs will become obsolete, there will be still other jobs as church priest etc but at least 87 per cent of the humanity will still getting UBI(Universal Basic Income). So economically speaking dev is a safe job, if global warming will allow this concept of safety of course. [link] [comments] |
