WMI Provider Host task taking up large amounts of CPU

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:58 AM PST

I have a custom built pc with an i7 7700k processor. It has a high clock speed, but the task manager always shows my cpu usage at about 50%. WMI Provider Host is the biggest culprit, taking between 15 and 20% of my CPU at all times. Is this normal?

[Question] Does anyone know any good desktop weather widgets for Windows 7?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:22 PM PST

So I know Microsoft disabled their own weather widget a while back for security purposes and because they stopped supporting Windows 7. But anyone know of any other weather widget for desktop that works? or is this not possible? Thanks in advance

    factory reset question.

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:59 AM PST

i have windows 8, is there a way to do a factory reset removing everything but keeping my photos? could i just create another drive, like an (E) drive and move all the photos to that and only reset the (C) drive? ii ask because their is an option to reset all drives or just the drive Windows is installed on, although i'm not sure if it's that easy to just create another drive without some sort of hardware/USB.

Text editors extremely slow after new Win 10 install

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 01:50 PM PST

Recently I swapped my laptop's hard drive with a brand new one since the old one was failing. I didn't restore from any backup so I just used the Win10 installation media to install a brand new OS onto my new hard drive, then simply dragged over my important files from the old drive.

Afterwards I noticed that I'm no longer able to edit relative large files (1-10mb, probably not considered large at all for devs) with long overflowing lines with notepad++. Every time I scroll anywhere near sections of the file with very long lines, the fps would drop to like 0.1 making scrolling almost impossible. At first I thought it was a notepad++ problem, so I installed the trial of UltraEdit, but exact same problem. Both were working perfectly fine before I swapped hard drives.

Is this an issue with my computer or something? It's highly unlikely both programs suddenly fails to edit any text file with overflowing lines. I even reverted to older versions of notepad++, still the same problem. Neither program is using the GPU (I have Nvidia Optimus on this laptop) to open.

Edit: just did a test. The moment a single character overflows the edge of the screen (horizontal) requiring scrolling, the program would slow down significantly for that section of the text. The more it overflows (eg, 1000+ characters on one line), the slower it is. Scrolling past that section of the text with lots of overflow would get the program back running full speed.

Edit 2: changing the encoding to Western European iso8859-1 seems to make the performance SLIGHTLY better (like maybe 0.2fps instead of 0.1fps... which is still unusable) but nowhere near the performance before I swapped hard drives. Also I'm pretty sure the encoding was always UTF8 on my old hard drive.

Is there a tool to package Windows Updates & Drivers for reinstallation?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:18 AM PST

    Topic

I've been diving around Google and sidebars figuring this has to be a thing that's been asked already, but I really haven't been able to find a tool to do this. Basically I'd love to be able to run Tool X, have it scan my machine and create a package of hardware drivers and Windows updates to quickly reapply after a clean installation.

Windows 10 Pro vs Windows 10 Pro Education

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:10 PM PST

I'm working in a corporate environment using primarily Windows 10 Pro machines. My supplier recently sent me a new HP ProBook 430 G5 which appears to come with Windows 10 Pro Education, something I've only discovered after it's been setup and sent to an interstate staff member.

Other than some default settings with Cortana and Windows Store, does anyone know any major differences between the two versions?

Since the Pro Education version is also designed as part of the K-12 academic license program, how non-compliant am I running this version in a corporate environment?

'0% available (plugged in, not charging)' issue on Acer Laptop

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 07:47 AM PST

I am using an Acer Aspire e5-474g and have recently found out that my laptop is having this issue where when plugged into a socket, the laptop does not charge, but when removed, it immediately shuts down. The laptop is only able to be turned on when plugged in.

I have tried testing for issues with the charging cable and power plug, and i believe the issue is either software or a problem with the battery itself.

I have tried many fixes, especially the uninstalling of the battery drivers and rebooting the computer, although i was unable to remove the laptop battery as it is not removable for my laptop model.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:49 AM PST

Some folders are invisible from the c-drive. But, they can still be accessed from the quick access bar. The folder and its content are still on the hard drive, but just is invisible. Why does this happen?

Its my primary folder that I use everyday. It id hidden from the main view, but sometimes it randomly shows up. Sometimes, other folder does the same thing as well!

[Win 10] Does anyone know of a music player that will allow me to make playlists with custom rules?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:49 AM PST

Nothing annoys me quite like having a playlist on shuffle with 10 bands in it and hearing the same one 3x in a row. Anyone know of an app that would let me make a playlist, set it to shuffle, and then incorporate rules of some kind? Like don't play the same artist twice, don't play the same album within X songs, stuff like that.

    Windows 10 update - disable

    Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:41 AM PST

I want to permamently disable windows update i have mobile broadband and retarded shit of windows update just spent my entire monthly plan of it and then proceeded to fail to install updates per usual and no i can't set it to metered in setting because this is windows and doesnt work properly. Disabling windows update service doesnt work since apparently it turns itself back on. Ill take 100 trojans and viruses over windows update they at least arent as noticable and as annoying. What i want is way to PERMAMENTLY delete god damn thing so it never shows its ugly face again. I know some of you will say its stupid being on internet without updated windows while I agree in principle in practice this shit of operating system makes viruses preferable. Also make note of "I have metered(i.e limited) internet" i cant go downloading other versions of windows or anything. Yes I use linux whenever i can BUT real life demands me to use windows and I cant make windows 7 to work due to drivers and other problems. I'm stuck with windows10 thats why im asking for help since everything google turned up was group policy which might or might not work but knowing windows it will still burn my bandwidth.
