I have accidentally force-stopped a system app called "Settings storage".. will this make any trouble?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 07:45 PM PST

I was trying to remove the red bubble notification from a certain app (I did) but during it, I force_stopped this app called "Setting storage". Will this cause any trouble to the phone? and if so how to turn it on again?

What does this app do anyway?

p.s:here is all the info in the about phone menu that you might need: My phone is oppo f5 youth model cph1725 android7.1.1 version CPH1725EX_11_A.07_171116 baseband version M_V3_P10,M_V3_P10 kernel version 4.4.22-G201711162246

How to block harassing people from leaving voicemails?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 09:03 PM PST

I have a Samsung Galaxy s7 with AT&T and after months of harassing messages and phone calls from a certain person I have since put this person on my blocked call list. His calls do not come through anymore so he started using a private number and his calls began coming through again. So I blocked private numbers.

But one thing that remains unblocked is his ability to continue leaving harassing voicemails. It's almost daily and it's been driving me up the walls. I've looked all over the internet and there isn't a single thing that has fixed this problem. Am I capable of contacting AT&T to have them permanently globally block this person from any and all contact with me or am I just doomed to forever have private callers on block and a slough of harassing voicemails in my inbox until I am forced to pay for a phone number switch?

This might be a longshot...need help extracting data from old Star Wars: Uprising mobile game

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:44 AM PST

Hello everyone, For a while there was a mobile game called Star Wars: Uprising that contained an original canon story set right after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. A lot of people don't have access to mobile games, so I spent a lot of time transcribing the game into a printable pdf file that you can view here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7sQbvXiFAa8bWJrZXNMU3JJZWM

Basically my project covered the story mode, characters, and locations. However, there are many nuggets of canon lore that were lost when the game was taken offline. I never was able to compile complete lists of crew runs, daily opportunites, etc. So as my project stands right now, it is technically incomplete, and a part of official Star Wars canon has been lost.

This might be a longshot but this is why I am posting here. My knowledge is limited so please forgive me if this doesn't even make any sense. I know that there are things called apk files for this game out there that can be downloaded. Is it possible to extract the kind of information I am looking for from one of those files? And if so, would anyone be willing to help me out?

    Thank you everyone

How would I go about authenticating my apps users with my universities SSO CAS system?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 02:20 PM PST

I don't really understand how to go about doing this.

Is it like with OAuth where you open their login page in the phones browser, and when its done authenticating there's a callback url that you intercept with an intent filter, and grab the auth token from that?

Everything I can find about CAS is about the backend.

So how does CAS authentication work from the point of view of an android application?

I don't actually need to interact with any university services beyond just having the user log in and getting their student ID.

I'm entitled to a free phone and I'm curious, with price out of the picture what is the best phone to choose? What would you pick?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 07:10 PM PST

I dig android and plan to continue rooting my phone for full access. I thought that picking the phone with the best specs would be the way to go, but I should check here incase I'm missing something.

I really like the Google Pixel fingerprint sensor so there's some bias towards the Pixel 2, but the screen burn is a bit of a turn off..

Thoughts guys? I know it's a pretty bland question but if I search this on Google I can only really find top 10 lists that are taking irrelevant criteria into consideration.

    Thanks!

Edit: Although I'm in no position to be picky, an explanation of why would be awesome :)

Is there any way to save logs before the reboot?

"OK google", mobile data, and turn by turn directions.

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:39 PM PST

    HTC U11

If I'm driving and I want to get directions to the place I'm going then I must have mobile data turned on to get those directions. But in my locality, it is an offense to touch a mobile phone if you are the driver. This is called distracted driving.

I tried asking OK Google to turn mobile data on but this had no effect. Is there a way to turn mobile data on using a voice command?

Related to this, after asking OK Google to give me directions, is there a voice command that I can use to tell tell my phone to start the turn by turn directions on the screen?

Just bought a refurbished Note 4 on Amazon, I thought it was sold by Samsung but I was mistaken. How do I make sure this phone isn't a counterfeit / loaded with malware?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:34 PM PST

I just tried to post this on /r/Android so I sure hope this sub is active, as that one doesn't allow questions. I've never ever heard of this sub so if you are reading this... hats off to you.

This is what I got: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Verizon-Wireless-Smartphone/dp/B01CPIYNQG/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

The vendor that I (apparently) bought it from isn't listed there anymore, they mostly sell iphones so I guess they ran out of Note 4s.

This is the storefront of the vendor I bought it from: https://www.amazon.com/s?marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&me=A334XHS1C5Y12J&merchant=A334XHS1C5Y12J&redirect=true

As a heavy music listener and phone user in general, how do I fix my battery usage? I have only been out for about 90 minutes and my battery is already at 74%

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:16 AM PST

It says the apps are draining my battery the most are Spotify: 4%, Android System: 4%, screen: 2%, and Android OS: 2%. How do I reduce the usage of Android System and Android OS?

Galaxy S6 randomly reboots only on a data connection?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 02:18 PM PST

My Galaxy S6 likes to constantly reboot when I'm connected to data. Doesn't reboot on WiFi, literally only when I'm on 4G. I've tried a factory reset, installing only essential apps, turning off location and none fix it. The only fix I've found is if I turn off data, there's no reboots. It's starting to get real annoying, because sometimes it reboots 4 times in a span of 10 minutes, so I'm hoping there's a fix

Tap & Pay default app shortcut?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:44 PM PST

I primarily use Google Pay, but unfortunately a bank I use (Barclays) have their own tap and pay implementation.

In my phone's settings I am able to change the default tap and pay app from Google Pay to Barclays, but it requires me to dive through menus at the most inconvenient times, when I am in a store about to pay for something.

It would help out massively if I could get a shortcut icon on my home screen to toggle the default app, or if an app like Tasker had the functionality to toggle this for me, I just don't know how.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Running out of ideas on how to fix my phone

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 05:08 PM PST

About a month and half ago i bought a Sony XZ1 Compact (US version) and about a month later I dropped the phone and the screen cracked. The screen is basically unusable now since it's just black and the touch doesn't work. I took it to multiple phone repair shops that ended up telling me they were unable to fix the screen since all of them can't seem to order a screen replacement. I've also called Sony Support directly only to have them tell me they only keep spare parts for warranty repairs and that I should get it fixed at a third party place. When I told them that no third party can seem to find parts for it all I got was them basically saying "sorry tough luck." I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Any ideas?

Any way to achieve Windows Phone look on Android ?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:00 PM PST

I used a Lumia 520(Windows 8.1) for 2 months, and was blown away by its UI. The home screen was so useful in displaying information without feeling bloated. The dark/white backgrounds and the accent colors are something I miss everyday. The Android UI(Stock Android Oreo) just doesn't do it for me.

I have tried out the Launcher 8 launcher,it tries but still fails to capture the real experience. Any way I can get it done? I hear Android is famous for its customizations. I am willing to even get into deep end of coding to achieve this(if it is possible, that is).

    Please,help a brother out !!

Cannot get rid of spoken Google search results on Android

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 12:28 PM PST

I use 2 Google accounts on all devices, tablet, phone, desktop. I've gone into both accounts/voice/speech output and set it to hands-free only though I'd love to turn it off, there is no off.

No matter where no matter when desktop, tablet or phone I always get spoken Google search results. I never want to hear spoken search results, I don't drive and never want it to be "hands-free".

Anyone know how to end Google spoken search results permanently?

    Best app for calendar notifications?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 07:16 AM PST

The Gmail (calendar?) app just isn't a great experience. You can't snooze anything, it has a little vibrate (oftentimes not getting my attention).

What's a better app that I can use for calendar events? Something that I can snooze things with, and has a little more of a customizable notification.

    Thanks in advance!

Can an Android device be fully formatted? (like a PC)

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 02:11 PM PST

Well, the title say it all: Can an android device be formatted like a PC (erasing the Hard the Drive, and setting up from zero)? And if so, which is the procedure to doing that? (because I'm aware of the various partitions/sections "inside" the filesystem)

If possible, I'll be interested in testing/doing that on an SM-J700M, and I don't know if that could affect.

    Thanks in advance.

Windows 10 photo app importing game pictures too

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:24 PM PST

I have a Galaxy S5 and whenever I plug my phone into the computer to import via the windows 10 photos app it detects pictures that are used by the games I have on my phone as well as pictures I have taken myself.

Is there anyway to tell the app not to import these, or at least hide them from the scanner if that is not possible? I really don't want to go an manually select each picture I want.

Photo of what I'm talking about: link

Edit: If anyone knows a better image importing app I'm happy to try them out.

How do I move apps/data from one external SD card to another in my old Samsung phone if the phone has stopped reading the old card?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:06 PM PST

Hi!! I have a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime a friend sent me recently to use for the apps (I don't use it as a phone, no number is connected to it.).

I put in a 16GB microSD card when I began using it and when the space on the phone began to fill up, I moved what apps I could to the external SD card.

Only a few months in, the phone keeps alerting me that the SD card has been unmounted or isn't there. I copied all the files on the SD card to a computer at work while it was working and once again it has disappeared.

I ordered a new 16GB card to put in the phone and wanted to transfer everything over...but a quick google search later...and I've soon discovered it doesn't work that way...

Can someone tell me how I might be able to transfer the apps and data?

Especially with an option for if I cannot get my phone to read the old card again?

(Also I don't yet know if the problem is the SD card of the phone and I'm not sure what to do to figure that out...but I thought I'd start here...)

At home I borrow a mac so I would be using that to try thing this weekend (or a desktop at work next week)

    Thank you so much!!
