5 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 44)

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:24 AM PST

From music rhythm games to weird and wacky indie games, I played a lot of fun games this week, and I'm excited to share them with you today, fellow AndroidGamers :)

Let's discuss the games in the comments.

New to these posts? Check out the first one from 44 weeks ago here.

The games games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is :)

    Let's dive in

Lanota [Game Size: 692 MB] (free)

Genre: Music / Rhythm - Offline

    tl;dr review:

An amazing rhythm game set in a fantasy universe, with several free music tracks (levels), and so many difficulty settings that you'll probably never finish the songs on the highest level.

The game has an amazing fantasy atmosphere, and monetizes through selling additional music packs for a few USD per pack.

While I haven't played a lot of music rhythm games, it's safe to say that this is one of the better ones out there!

Fantasy Heroes [Game Size: 137 MB] (free)

Genre: RPG / Action - Offline

    tl;dr review:

An old-school RPG (last updated 2014) with 60 campaign levels, a compelling story, no energy system, summons, lootboxes etc. This is how team/hero RPGs used to be made before gacha!

You start out alone but quickly build up a team of traditional RPG class heroes, such as warriors, clerics, and wizards, as you fight your way through normal levels, bosses, and escort (transport) missions.

There are no ads, but the only currency in-game (gold) is sold through IAP if you want to progress faster. The IAPs are never pushed in-game, and not really needed.

Up a Cave [Total Game Size: 48 MB] (free)

Genre: Physics Platformer / Indie - Offline

    tl;dr review:

An indie physics arcade platformer where you jump around a cave by tapping either side of the screen, trying to collect all gold pieces and find the exit within the time limit.

The game's 30 levels are really challenging, but at the same time aesthetically beautiful, creating a nice gameplay atmosphere.

There IS an energy system, which means that after 5 deaths, you'll have to watch an ad or wait 30 minutes. However, the developer said he might add an iAP to remove the system in the next update, in which case the monetization is great too :)

Devil Twins [Total Game Size: 104 MB] (free)

Genre: Idle Clicker / RPG - Offline

    tl;dr review:

An idle clicker RPG with guilds, PVP, dungeons, and an insane amount of premium currency provided for free - although there's also plenty to use it on. Ultimately, the devs have done a great job at making it fair for everyone.

You fight through endless waves monsters and bosses as brother and sister twins "Armpit Warrior" and "Yawn Girl" (yes, it's that silly), as you slowly upgrade you base stats, skills, and summon monsters to help you.

The game's silly but fun, and I found myself getting hooked by the idle gameplay (something to play for 5 minutes during breaks).

Blackmoor Duberry's Quest [Total Game Size: 118 MB] (free)

Genre: Action RPG / Platformer - Offline

    tl;dr review:

Wacky but fun is the best way to describe action rpg (arpg) platformer Blackmoor. You play as one of 7 RPG characters as you take down monsters and lots of bosses, upgrade equipment and save not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 princesses in a truly epic (and totally not serious) adventure.

The monetization focuses on incentivized videos to revive, or iAPS to buy gold so you can progress faster. Wasn't personally annoyed by the monetization.

It's really a bit of a weird game with controls that work alright but not super well, but I loved the humor and in its own unique way, the game is really entertaining.

After wasting years on projects that were to big and ambitious as a solo developer, I finally decided to go way smaller. So here is Tap Dunk Basketball 3D 2018.

3 Games into NBA 2k18, and...

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:07 PM PST

So, for some reason I've been stalking this game, so when it went on sale yesterday I buckled, even if it was only 3$ off.

Really poor numerical rating on the Play Store, so I was hoping to give people another take on it. First impressions are HOLY CRAP!!! The presentation is awesome! The sounds and play by play is great (color commentary is meh), the presentation is TV quality. Even on my $150 Blu phone it runs really smooth albeit at the lowest settings. It still looks great though. The animations are excellent, the gameplay is pretty good. I'm not the biggest basketball fan, but there is not a premium football, hockey, or soccer game on Android, so a 90% console quality sports sim appealed to me.

I plan on trying the MyCareer and Association modes, but so far the quick games have been good. It makes me want to delete the F2P garbage I have on my phone currently. I just gotta clean break from those. So, people can trash 2k as much as they want for random gliches (like incorrect haircuts and bench players not having their names spoken in game...), but I encourage them to keep pumping out premium titles. I have a couple on my phone now.

So, my parting comment is on immersion. I feel like I'm part of the game and I can't wait to play my next game and get better than where I'm at now.

I just published my first game, Linked Squares, to the google play store, pretty proud of myself, although I do wish it could be better but you gotta start somewhere right? Hardest part was making all the puzzles but I like it’s simplicity.

Mobile game plagiarising popular animator - can anyone help?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 09:12 AM PST

Hey guys! Im not sure if this is the right place but here goes...

I'm sure some of you are familiar with the artwork and animation of Kéké - he is a French animator with a unique style, animating cute bouncing birds and foxes and other animals in Flipnote. I personally love his animations - they can be viewed on his tumblr page https://k-eke.tumblr.com/ and YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/kekeflipnote

It has come to my attention from a post on his official tumblr page at https://k-eke.tumblr.com/post/171201871766/hello-everyone-so-today-i-have-sad-news-to-bring that a company called Fortafy Games has been plagiarising his unique art style for a game called Pigeon Pop and when he contacted Fortafy Games about this, they "replied [him] that it's for game and that [his] art is for animation so it's not the same."

Here's proof from Kéké's own Tumblr about this: https://imgur.com/gallery/CAH2k

I was hoping to spread the word about this disgusting practice and help Kéké out and I was wondering if anyone willing to help could perhaps report this game on their respective platforms (links below) or give the game low ratings to drive down its popularity and perhaps pressure the developers into at the very least giving Kéké credit as it seems to be stressing him out a lot.

To be frank, this may be a bad idea since the App Store requires you to download a game to give it a review and this will end up boosting the downloads of the game itself so I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas on what to do?

    Thanks so much guys!

App Store/Google Play Store pages below: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fortafygames.pigeonpop

    https://itunes.apple.com/sg/app/pigeon-pop/id1335578273?mt=8

Tl;dr Pigeon Pop is plagiarising Kéké and we could report and downvote it but that may give it publicity so does anyone have any other ideas to help?

    Card game with trading

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 11:23 AM PST

Anyone else want one with trading? I've played enough to know that the economy for cards can get skewed really fast. But I really like to trade its one of my favorite things to do. The last one I play was Maginogi Duel which gave you a shop to sell your cards, to buy other people's cards. I don't know if it had an actually trade system.

I know another problem is people starting multiple accounts in order to trade between them. That's probably a small few that want to min max at that level. Trading has a way to make a card feel worth something. Unlike Hearthstone where you can't do anything with them.

I think a mobile card game can breakthrough with trading.

How to use DS3 on Android and on PC?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 05:04 PM PST

I recently dusted off my only DS3 controller and made it work on my old Grand Duos (for emulation purposes), but I also emulate some games on PC (cemu, GC, PS2) and I'd particulary also use my DS3 on PC as It has a gyroscope, and on my phone when I'm not on my PC.

Is there anyhow I can easily switch between? I mean, I don't want to go switching/installing/uninstalling drivers all the time. Currently the controller is paired with my phone (Using SixAxis - SixAxisPairTool).

Would be nice if there's an app that would send the controller (which is connected to the phone via bluetooth) data over to my PC (which is on wifi) on a xinput method and also the gyroscope data (I don't to use moonlight).
